14 best thunderbolt audio interface
A Thunderbolt audio interface is a piece of hardware used in audio recording and production setups to connect musical instruments, microphones, and other audio gear to a computer for recording, processing, and playback.Thunderbolt is a high-speed interface technology that allows for high-bandwidth data transfer and low-latency performance, making it well-suited for professional audio applications.
Here are some key points about Thunderbolt audio interfaces:
High-Speed Connectivity: Thunderbolt interfaces use the Thunderbolt protocol, which provides high-speed data transfer rates. Thunderbolt 2 offers up to 20 Gbps, and Thunderbolt 3 offers even higher speeds, up to 40 Gbps.
Low Latency: Thunderbolt technology enables low-latency audio processing, critical for real-time recording and monitoring without noticeable delays. This is crucial for musicians and producers who need to hear themselves without delay while recording.
Multiple Channels: Thunderbolt audio interfaces often have multiple input and output channels, allowing for recording and playback of multiple audio sources simultaneously. This is beneficial for recording live bands or multiple instruments at once.
Compatibility: Thunderbolt interfaces are typically compatible with both Mac and Windows systems, provided the computer has a Thunderbolt port. Adapters may be needed to connect to newer Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Integration with DAWs: Thunderbolt audio interfaces seamlessly integrate with digital audio workstations (DAWs), allowing for easy recording, monitoring, and processing of audio within the software.
High-Quality Audio: Thunderbolt interfaces often feature high-quality preamps, converters, and components to ensure the best audio quality during recording and playback.
Expandability: Some Thunderbolt interfaces offer daisy-chaining capabilities, allowing you to connect multiple devices through a single Thunderbolt port, simplifying your setup and reducing cable clutter.
Compatibility with Peripherals: Thunderbolt interfaces can connect to other Thunderbolt-enabled peripherals, such as external hard drives or displays, providing a versatile and efficient workflow.
When considering a Thunderbolt audio interface, factors such as the number of inputs and outputs, preamp quality, compatibility with your existing equipment, and budget should be taken into account to ensure it meets your recording and production needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | How well does the arrow work with software instrument? Running large sessions with Vienna ensemble with Cubase |
Answer: | It will conform to a cat carrier. It's like pillow foam for stiff pillows. |
Question: | How many plugins can I use with just this arrow |
Answer: | No. This product is NOT for reducing noise. It's for controlling echo. What you're looking for is mass loaded vinyl acoustic damping material. I know that acoustic foam is advertised as "soundproofing foam", which is false advertising, it leads to disappointed customers and is responsible for all of the bad reviews from people saying that it didn't do anything to reduce noise from outside, next room, etc. IT'S NOT DESIGNED TO. If you want to reduce flutter echo and phase cancellation for recording, HiFi listening, or home theater, use acoustic foam. If you want to reduce sound traveling from one room to another, you need something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Soundsulate-Loaded-Vinyl-Soundproofing-Noise/dp/B017DVK1IE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1546580128&sr=8-1&keywords=Acoustimac+Soundlock |

Answer: | I used the panels to quiet the inside of the wash machine and it helped a little but I don’t know the neighbor next-door so sorry |
Question: | Can i still use my plugins i bought while i owned the twin duo |
Answer: | Most people use adhesive spray though. I suggest using use 3M Command strips,4 per square (one in each corner),and it worked great ! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the headphone jack on this for monitoring your inputs, or does your PC audio come through it aswell |
Answer: | Hi, You can monitor your inputs and listen to playback from your computer simultaneously, which allows you to create overdubs with next to zero latency. You can either choose to monitor the inputs using the Direct Monitor switch, or you can use the Input Monitor feature in your DAW. If using the Direct Monitor feature the input signal will be passed directly to the line and headphone outputs, whereas if you use the Input Monitor feature in your DAW, you will be hearing the audio you're recording back from your DAW. In either case, you can still hear any other audio playing back from your DAW at the same time as recording. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support |
Question: | What type of usb cable does this come with? is it a type-c to type-c or a type-c to type-a |
Answer: | Hi, This comes with a type-c to type-a cable. If you have type-c ports, you will need to purchase a type-c to type-c USB cable separately. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support |
Question: | Does the XLR input only record audio to the left side |
Answer: | Hi, When recording a single microphone, you should ensure that you create a mono audio track in your DAW instead of a stereo audio track. When you record onto a mono audio track, the output from that track will be heard on both sides of your headphones or speakers (ensuring the output is set to stereo), however, if you record onto a stereo track, the audio will just be recorded onto the left side of a stereo file and you will ony hear it on the left of your headphones/speakers. This is explained in more detail here: https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/206849779?flash_digest=62885ef974b4eb116f3b3ea2c9b9c38ddb871473 Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it have dsp? to use apollo vsts |
Answer: | These panels are for sound treatment inside your room. They contribute very little to isolating between walls. If what you hear from your neighbors is mostly bass (most common problem) there is very little you can do in terms of surface wall treatment that will do a lot of good. Perhaps a little. About the only way to stop bass is concrete walls, perhaps cinder block. Sound proofing--NOT AT ALL. Sound treatment--YES. They are excellent for quietening your own room so it is not echoey. Things will sound quieter in your room. |
Question: | I am hoping to use the quantum 2626 to produce music using ableton as the daw. hopefully the low latency will help with overdubbing. sound right |
Answer: | I'm sorry, because Burgundy colored - acoustic foam is more demanding, its output will be less than other colors. Please rest assured that we are increasing our production scale. |
Question: | Is this compatible with fl studio? also how is the latency |
Answer: | Depends on how wide and how tall your curtain is. It might lessen the noise but I don't think it will eliminate all the noise. |
Question: | Does this come with a cable |
Answer: | We offer custom cuts. Message us for pricing. |

Route any audio to any output and take it to the recording medium of your choice.
Immense Analog & Digital Flexibility
Record high-impedance instruments, such as the electric guitar, through four Hi-Z inputs and reamp DI tracks through the special purpose ReAmp outputs. The interface is one of the few interfaces to offer DC-coupled line ins and outs that make it possible for you to transmit CV between the synthesizer and the computer. Handle digital audio via S/PDIF and ADAT. Monitor your signal through two pairs of headphones or studio monitors – simultaneously if you need to.
Go Direct
All Orion Studio Synergy Core analog inputs have the Direct-In feature to let you bypass preamp controls and record line-in signals directly into the converters. Get ready to hear the truth!

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this ship with an external DSP accelerator |
Answer: | Yes. You can use it either with USB (USB2, I think) or Thunderbolt (assuming you have a Thunderbolt interface -- that is how I am using it). |
Question: | it has two Thunderbolt 3 connector right |
Answer: | Yes, assuming your software supports multiple outputs, be it via ASIO or another of the modes. The XLR outputs show up as Main Outputs 1/2, whereas the TRS outputs show up as Analog 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8. You'll probably need to configure things appropriately in the CueMix Console then also in your DAW. |
Question: | Are line in and adat inputs separate (i.e. capable of being hooked up to separate sources simultaneously), or not |
Answer: | No, it has no DSP chip, it just does audio IO. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with a Thunderbolt cable in the box |
Answer: | You will need to use a microphone pre-amplifier that is appropriate for your microphones (e.g., supplies 48V phantom power if mics require it), then connect the pre-amp outputs to unused Analog Inputs on the UltraLite. |
Question: | How many of the 8 analog mic inputs have preamps we can gain stage through the apogee control mixer software |
Answer: | MOTU makes a few products known as a MKII. This is not one of those. And I don't think ANY of them have an AVB interface. |
Question: | How do i get signal from element's outputs to my iphone? not recognizing signal from element's main out unless routed through mixer or receiver |
Answer: | The one I purchased is an the original AVB without ESS. The ESS chip is only a few years old and added. If the model you’re considering has ESS,ESS will be Well Advertised. Also, in today’s Consumer Markets, it’s possible to have several Product Models of the same product out for sell with 2nd and 3rd Party Auction Buting... so your question is valid! Best of luck. |
Question: | Will this come with hardware remote control |
Answer: | Hi Carson, the one we are selling is the newest model. Yes it has switchable 110/220v power supply internally. If this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us on Amazon. We can help with support after the sale as well. We have it in stock and ready to ship. - Pixel Pro Audio |

The Elements of Excellent Audio
Apogee’s Element 24, 46 and 88 are Thunderbolt audio I/O boxes for Mac. The Element Series takes the best of cutting-edge Apogee gear like Symphony I/O Mk II, Ensemble Thunderbolt and Groove and puts it into simple form factors. With streamlined hardware features and advanced software control, the Element series delivers ultimate recording quality and performance at unprecedented prices.
Analog to Digital Conversion
A high-quality A/D converter is critical for capturing every detail of your recordings into your computer. The Element series features some of the best Apogee A/D conversion. Recording through an Element ensures you will minimize unwanted noise and maximize the signal quality. Your tracks will sound amazing and mixing your project will be easier.
Microphone Preamps
Whether you are recording powerful drums, dynamic vocals or delicate strings, you need a premium mic preamp to capture the finest details of the performance. The Element Series mic preamps feature Apogee’s Advanced Stepped Gain Architecture. This analog circuit is designed to dynamically optimize across a gain range of 0-75dB to provide superior bandwidth and low distortion.
Digital to Analog Conversion
With a high-quality D/A converter, you will hear more definition in each track and virtual instrument. This clarity makes it easier for you to make precise adjustments and achieve the ideal balance when mixing your music. When you listen to your sessions through an Element, tracks will blend more harmoniously and mixing will be easier. The high end will sound crisp and clear and the low end will be tight and well defined.
Thunderbolt Connectivity
The Element Series Thunderbolt driver offers incredible low-latency performance (1.41 ms round-trip) and rock-solid stability. Apogee’s custom driver uses less of your computer’s CPU power with the help of Direct Memory Access (DMA) technology. This allows you to run more plugins and monitor through your DAW at a low buffer setting. Element’s low latency driver means you don’t have to choose between power and speed.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with an iPad Pro with a usb c port |
Answer: | The iPad Pro does use USB-C, but that charging port it is not thunderbolt. The Apollo requires a true thunderbolt port and thunderbolt certified cable. Without it, it will not turn on. |
Question: | Does the solo works with the new imac mini m1 via the thunderbolt |
Answer: | We have not yet released a fully qualified M1 version, but many users are already having success with 9.13.1 as the basic driver is compiled for the new chips. You do need to boot into Recovery Mode and lower the security settings to allow the driver to be installed. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Will the thunderbolt 3 version work with windows |
Answer: | Yes, provided your PC has built-in Thunderbolt 3 ports and you're running Windows 10. We can't post links here, but if you Google "UAD Windows Thunderbolt" your first hit will be the full compatibility documents. Hope this helps |
Question: | How many plugins can it run having only 1 sharc |
Answer: | We can't post links here, but if you Google "UAD DSP Chart" you'll find a chart on our site that shows what % of each chip a plugin uses. If you stick with the excellent Analog Classics Bundle that comes free with your Apollo, you can run quite a few of them! Even with our more DSP intensive plugins, you can build 2 world class recording chains for portable tracking. Hope this helps. |
