User questions & answers

Question: Can i connect this to a audio interface via xlr
Answer: No
Question: Can i use this as a preamp for my presonus audiobox usb
Answer: Yes, it should work fine. Your mic or instrument goes direct into the pre-amp and then just run a short cable from the output of the pre-amp into the channel input of the audio box you want to use. I got one of these recently and am pretty happy with the sound and ease of use. I did take others advice though and swap out the tube for a higher quality one which is pretty easy to do.
Question: How to do I connect this to a Audio Interface
Answer: This is a microphone preamp, not an audio interface. You would run your microphone to an input on this Presonus, and then there is either an XLR or 1/4 output that you would plug into another USB-type audio interface to go into a computer.
Question: Can you run a line and XLR input through this at the same time and have each go to their respective outputs (separate)? Sort like a 2 channel pre
Answer: I do not know if this is possible as it is a one channel pre. I would imagine the input /output is either/or. Can't say for certain without trying but I only have one mic.

Great for all types of microphones, instruments, keyboards and synths, the Studio Channel has the sonic power and flexibility to achieve any tone you can dream of – luscious in your face vocals, crystal clear acoustic guitars, fat solid bass guitar, dynamic acoustic piano, cracking snare, punchy bass, huge MPC tracks and more.

Enhance your signal path

The Studio Channel noticeably outperforms preamplifiers that are built-in to most recording interfaces and affordable mixers. Add a VCA-based compressor and studio-grade equalizer to the class A tube preamp and you get not only big fat tube tonality but also complete control of your tone and sounds. Since much of the recording process is accomplished one track at a time, you need a signal path that can deliver a variety of high quality tones and sounds, which is why the Studio Channel is the perfect tool for any studio.

Class A Tube Preamplifier

The Studio Channel has everything needed to deliver big tone. The preamplifier stage of the Studio Channel is based on the award winning BlueTube preamplifier with a high output 12AX7 vacuum tube operating on voltages double than all other preamplifiers in its class delivering high headroom and big tone. Dual control Gain and Tube Drive enables a wide range of sounds from transparent and clear to edgy and overdriven.

Full Featured VCA Compressor

The compressor in the Studio Channel is a fully variable ultra-fast and smooth VCA-based circuit with all of the controls needed for a wide range of compression settings: ratio, threshold, attack, release and gain make up. The VCA-based compressor is known for musicality as well as ultra fast attack with the ability to tame the fastest transients. From slap bass, to snare drum, to vocals, the Studio Channel’s compressor stage allows you to record as hot as needed without clipping giving you total dynamic control.

Three Band Parametric EQ

The equalizer in the Studio Channel is like a Swiss Army pocket knife, with the ability to carve out unwanted frequencies as well as tailor your tone to enhance your sound. The custom-designed amplifiers in the EQ deliver sweet-sounding gain/cut for ultra smooth highs, deep solid lows and clear midrange. The mid-band of the EQ section has variable Q for controlling the width around the center point of the selected frequency. High and low frequency bands give you the option for selecting peak/dip or shelving frequencies.

Answer: It should but use the cable that's included
Question: Which of the Studio models, if any, can actually drive 250 ohm headphones? The 24c, sadly, did not
Answer: Not sure you are going to find a USB interface that will work those. Those are a very narrow use case style of headphones. So when we decided to upgrade our popular TubePre V2, we focused on improving an already high-quality soundwithout jacking up the price. Like the original TubePre, the new version is a fully professional tube preamp, with a dual-servo (no capacitors) gain stage that lets you boost the program signal to smoking hot levels without significantly increasing the background noise. Discrete components and high-voltage operation offer dynamic range and detail not found in other single-channel tube preamps in its class. All Rockville pro audio cablesare made with 100% copper which boosts the efficiency of the cable. There isnothing better than 100% copper. Most of the cheaper cables on the market do notuse 100% copper, instead they make their cables with CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum).CCA cables do not perform on the level that 100% copper cables perform at. CCAwill not conduct signals efficiently. A 12 gauge CCA cable will not even performas well as a 14 gauge 100% pure copper cable, which will in turn.

The XMAX preamplifier runs on power rails of 30V. Most off-the-shelf, op-amp-based designs run on power rails of 10V to 18V. Higher-voltage power rails deliver more headroom, deeper lows, smoother highs, and a richer overall sound.

Question: Can i order one with 220 vac input ? if so, then how will i do so
Answer: yes you would have to call our store direct
Question: Will this work with the rode nt1 a condenser microphone? will i need anything additional
Answer: Yes it will work great with the NT1. All you need is an XLR cable for the microphone.
Question: Can I hook up five keyboard to this to go into an audio interface
Answer: Depends on how you want to do it. You could run for or trs connectors and do 5 mono lines but getting all the volume levels correct would be a pain, you could do 4 stereo the same way. Can't remember if there is MIDI input output on the back I think there is but it's just 1 in 1 out might be able to dasey chain if you have the right keyboards. So 5 mono yes, 5 stereo no but 4 yes, MIDI maybe probably not.

Superior sound.

A good microphone preamp boosts a mic’s level to almost 400 times that of the original signal, making the preamp one of the most important stages in an audio system. A cheap, off-the-shelf, op-amp-type mic preamp delivers thin, noisy, harsh results. In contrast, PreSonus XMAX microphone preamps deliver incredibly high headroom, deep lows, smooth highs, and a rich overall sound. With XMAX preamps, your system’s sound quality is limited only by the microphone you plug in.

The right analog I/O makes the D8 a versatile front end.

Its complement of inputs and outputs makes the DigiMax D8 a versatile front end for virtually any system. Two convenient front-panel instrument inputs let you plug in guitars, bypassing the mic inputs. All other connections are in the rear, keeping the wiring out of your face. With eight XLR mic/line inputs, you can plug in virtually any mic- or line-level sound source. Eight ¼-inch, balanced, direct channel outputs allow you to add preamps to devices with line-level inputs or split the mic preamps between two devices.

Expand via ADAT Optical and record the whole band.

Eight-channel, 24-bit, 44.1/48 kHz ADAT Optical (“Lightpipe”) output makes the DigiMax D8 an excellent way to add more analog inputs to any third-party, Lightpipe-equipped digital-audio device. Better yet, add a DigiMax D8 to a Lightpipe-equipped PreSonus AudioBox 1818VSL for a 2-rackspace rig with 16 XMAX-equipped recording channels—enough to record an entire live band. To keep your digital audio in sync with ultra-low jitter, the D8 receives word clock at its BNC connection and sends word clock via ADAT Optical.

Product features

A smooth trip from analog to digital.

The DigiMax DP88 is equipped with audiophile-grade, Burr-Brown processors to deliver top-quality digital conversion up to 96 kHz. These converters provide 118 dB of dynamic range and are backed by a boast-worthy clock with sub-50 picosecond jitter to capture complex musical harmonics smoothly and naturally. You’ll hear every breath, transient, and detail of a performance in your recordings.

XMAX preamps, now with remote control.

XMAX preamps provide high headroom, low noise, wide dynamic range, and extended frequency response. The resulting musicality and transparency has made this design an industry favorite. In 1995, PreSonus patented digital control over analog circuits for our first product. Building on this legacy, we created a separate digital volume-control circuit ahead of our award-winning analog XMAX preamp design, providing the convenience of digital recall without sacrificing fidelity. The DP88 is equipped with eight of these digitally controlled XMAX preamps, making it a first-rate front end or expander for any studio.

Easy MIDI control.

While we can’t provide the same level of integration with every audio interface that we can with the Studio 192 and Studio 192 Mobile, the DigiMax DP88 is equipped with MIDI I/O for easy remote control from anywhere. By using simple MIDI CC messages to control level, phantom power, and direct ADC input, the DigiMax DP88 fits into any DAW environment. Simply connect it to your MIDI interface, enable it as a MIDI device in your DAW, and start remote controlling your preamps and recalling preamp settings with your audio sessions.

Flexible I/O makes setup a snap.

Flexible rear-panel I/O makes it easy to incorporate the DigiMax DP88 into any studio environment. Access the preamps using XLR or DB25 connections. Eight direct, analog-to-digital, line-level inputs are available on DB25 and can be accessed per channel with a front-panel button, allowing you to keep all of your gear connected at the same time. Eight balanced DAC outputs are provided via DB25 so you can expand your interface’s outputs for monitor mixes or speaker switching. You also get eight balanced direct outputs on DB25 and eight channels of ADAT/dual SMUX optical I/O up to 96 kHz.

The legend remade.

The DigiMax DP88 provides professional sound quality and features previously unavailable in its class: Eight digitally-controlled, Class A microphone preamps; top-quality Burr-Brown converters with 118 dB of dynamic range; a boast-worthy digital clock with sub-50 picosecond jitter; and flexible connection options. Like its DigiMax-series predecessors, the DigiMax DP88 is sure to set a new standard for eight-channel converters.

User questions & answers

Question: Are you able to monitor the output through the computer or do you need to have headphones plugged into the box itself
Answer: You can monitor via the computer or headphones or studio monitors.
Question: does this work with fl studio
Answer: Yes, works well with FL Studio! No latency, after setting up drivers.
Question: Can i save the software to add to another computer later
Answer: Yes. In registering the Audiobox with Presonus you will create an account on their web site that you can download the software as many times as you want. And you can load it on multiple computers (no limit that I am aware of) since you can only use the device on one at a time. The free Studio One 4 Artist (an absolutely GREAT DAW by the way) can be activated on up to five different computers. (You can also deactivate them on a computer as well to keep your activations down to five.)
Question: Does it have phantom power
Answer: Hi, yes it does
