Answer:	The MV88 used with the Shure Motiv App will handle SPLs of up to 120 dB. That's very loud and certainly in the hearing damaging range. The App compressor can keep the recording software from clipping if you start recording with too high a gain setting, but cannot keep the mic itself from clipping if you exceed 120 dB SPL. The Motiv App allows for 37dB of gain adjustment, and for very loud SPLs can be set for "0dB" gain. I've recorded a full symphony orchestra peaking at 103 dB SPL up close with the gain set to 20dB and the peaks hit no higher than -3 dB digitally with no limiting. However, some heavy metal bands can produce very dangerous SPLs that do exceed 120 dB close to their speakers, so limiter or not, it is possible to overdrive the MV88.

Answer:	You can purchase any of the frequencies that they offer - they all work the same, but at different frequencies. The only reason you would pick a specific is if you have another device in the room (or in a nearby room) that is using one of the offered frequencies. For instance you might want to use a second wireless microphone in the room (or in in a room next door0 -- then you would want to select two different frequencies of this microphone. These mics are very reliable.

Answer:	The handheld uses 2 AA batteries. The receiver has a power adapter for your power outlet.

You can spend about $100 on a usb conversion box and use this model. I Use an AKAI professional ($250+) which can handle up to 4 mics and 4 outputs ALONG WITH the usb cable. All that said, you can bypass the whole thing and buy an "AT2020 USB". It hooks directly up to the laptop and there's no other equipment to buy. Warning: If you use an AT2020 USB, it will eat up your battery life, you NEED to have your machine plugged in to use it for a long duration. Reason is: the mic takes about 40 volts of power and audio recording and engineering is a processor intensive task (more CPU work = more power being consumed), it also takes a lot of memory so your HDD will be running non stop.If you're using this for fun, get the USB and save the money. If you're looking to get into more serious work, use the XLR as it's compatible with more high end equipment.

It may work in a given scenario but it will be pretty messy because either you have to crank up the sensitivity and then you pick up everybody else in the room or you won't hear one or the other party

Question:	Are there 2 models of the sm58? this shows a mic with a cylindrical barrel. the ones sold separately seem to have a tapered barrel. what clip works
Answer:	In wireless systems, such as this BLX system, the barrels are the wireless transmitters and the the microphone grille/capsule make up the SM58 portion of the microphone. The SM58 sold by itself with a tapered barrel is a wired microphone that requires a XLR cable to be used.
