14 best digital mixers
Digital mixers are essential audio equipment used in various settings, including live music performances, recording studios, and broadcasting. They play a crucial role in controlling and mixing audio signals from multiple sources. Here's what you need to know about digital mixers:
Audio Mixing Console: A digital mixer, also known as a digital mixing console or digital audio mixer, is an electronic device used to combine and control audio signals. It serves as the central hub for managing audio inputs, processing, and routing.
Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Unlike traditional analog mixers, digital mixers utilize digital signal processing to manipulate and enhance audio signals. DSP allows for precise control of parameters like equalization, compression, reverb, and delay.
Channels and Inputs: Digital mixers come in various configurations, offering a specific number of channels or input ports. Each channel can accept audio inputs from microphones, instruments, playback devices, and more. Some mixers also include digital inputs for connecting to computers or other digital audio sources.
Touchscreen Interface: Many digital mixers feature touchscreen interfaces, making it easier to access and adjust various settings. This intuitive interface simplifies the mixing process and provides visual feedback.
Scene Memory: Digital mixers often have the capability to store and recall scenes or presets. This feature is valuable for quickly switching between different setups or recalling specific settings for different songs or events.
Remote Control: Some digital mixers offer remote control options through dedicated software applications. This allows audio engineers to make adjustments from a distance, which is particularly useful in live sound reinforcement.
Integrated Effects: Digital mixers often include built-in digital effects processors, such as reverbs, delays, and EQ presets. This eliminates the need for external effects units in many cases.
Signal Routing: Digital mixers provide extensive routing capabilities, allowing users to send audio signals to various destinations, including main speakers, monitors, recording devices, and more. This flexibility is crucial for complex audio setups.
Recording Capabilities: Many digital mixers offer the ability to record multi-track audio directly to a computer or other recording devices. This is beneficial for capturing live performances or studio sessions.
Expandability: Some digital mixers can be expanded with additional input and output cards, making them versatile and adaptable to changing audio requirements.
Wireless Integration: In some setups, digital mixers can integrate with wireless microphone systems and other wireless audio sources, reducing cable clutter and simplifying setup.
Versatile Applications: Digital mixers are used in a wide range of applications, including live concerts, theater productions, recording studios, houses of worship, and broadcast studios.
Sound Quality: The sound quality of digital mixers can vary depending on the quality of the internal components and converters. High-end digital mixers can offer exceptional audio fidelity.
In summary, digital mixers are advanced audio mixing consoles that leverage digital technology for precise control and manipulation of audio signals. They are versatile tools used in various audio production environments to achieve professional sound quality and efficient signal management.

Question: | If you set this up behind stage but operate from front of house, how do you get audio from front of house to backstage (like an iPod, or computer |
Answer: | I agree with Sean on this one. I usually plug in an MP3 player and just fade in the music. This may not be the best option for you if you are constantly needing to queue music. When I've had to do that, I've done it 2 different ways, both involve a stage snake: one way was I run an actual stage snake and have the Behringer with me as if it were a traditional mixer. The second way is to run a snake for only the 2 channel audio from the laptop next to me and send it up into the stage. Again, both involve a snake and sort of defeat the main purpose of this. However, you still gain remote access to the mixer which still allows you to roam around the room to adjust the audio. It's not a complete loss if you need constant access to a music source. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Ok. from reading, it would appear this has 4 auxiliary "outputs", but, how many auxiliary buses does this have and are they pre or post fader |
Answer: | UI16 is a 16:2 mixer, with gain, EQ, de-esser, noise-gates and compression available on each input. 2 channels (1 & 2) perform Digitek guitar amplifier emulation. It has 4 selectable pre/post fader Aux sends , and in-device effects for echo, reverb, chorus. All outputs have 31 band graphic on outputs with real-time analyser, DBX compressor & feedback supressor built-in. The mixer is controlled via HTML5 (or later) browser via wifi or cabled internet. iPad and iPad Pro are perfect control devices, though android is also usable (though I have problems with the mute/phantom-select buttons when using a Lenovo tablet - presumably to do with the version of google chrome partially implementing html5) . Soundcraft have several youtube tutorials on the UI12/UI16 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUFAf6vkbUI |
Question: | Can you record all 12 inputs separately via usb into you daw |
Answer: | I don't think so. If you can, the manual certainly says nothing about it.You can record the entire mix onto a USB stick. |
Question: | Can i use this as a usb audio interface to/from a computer (like a mac running logic |
Answer: | No you cannot. The only model that has that capability is the new Ui24. |
Question: | How many Aux's per channel for monitor mixes does it have |
Answer: | The UI16 has 4 XLR Aux outputs, if you enable the 2 headphone outputs to be Aux outputs, that adds 2 additional 1/4" Aux outputs to the mixer. You can very easily see that the headphone outputs are enabled as Aux channels by looking at the Aux Sends menu. The Aux channels go from 1-4 Aux Outputs to 1-6 Aux Outputs when enabled within Settings. One tip... Do remember that the Headphone outputs have a physical rotary knob that controls headphone output volume. This knob also controls output volume while the outputs are enabled as Aux sends. For example.. If everything is showing as a a signal is supposed to be going to either Aux 5 and/or Aux 6.. but nothing is coming out of a speaker,/monitor. Check to make sure that knob is turned up... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use a USB headset with this |
Answer: | We found that if you have the GoXLR, and a USB headset, that we can still get the sound over. Put a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord from the headset output on the GoXLR, and into the Line In port on the back of a computer. Then, use the 'Listen to this device' option in the sound settings to redirect sound from 3.5mm Line In, and output to the USB headset. Can use a guide like https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/126383-listen-microphone-through-playback-device-windows.html to see the process. Couple things to note - If you hear a buzzing or feedback, you may need to get a quality 3.5mm Ground Noise Loop isolator, and be sure to get a quality 3.5mm cable, otherwise the sound may sound a bit degraded. |
Question: | Can i use this to get xbox audio through to my pc speakers |
Answer: | Yes, pretty easily I might add. |
Question: | Does this have phantom power for the xlr |
Answer: | Yes, it supports 70 Db of gain in addition to the phantom power. So it can run nearly and microphone you throw at it. |
Question: | Is this Mac compatible |
Answer: | Currently, windows only. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the L12 work with Cubase 10 recording on a 21 inch Mac |
Answer: | This is a sound interface. All you need is sound drivers. There is no supplemental software. |
Question: | Can the L-12 record a live stereo mix, or only multitrack |
Answer: | What you can't do is record the next track at 24-bit/96kHz. That is you can record up to 12 tracks all at once at 24-bit/96kHz but then if you wanted to add another track to it while monitoring the first recording it has to be at 46kHz which is sub CD quality. |
Question: | Can I save EQ’s and recall them from the save if they have been changed |
Answer: | Yes! The EQ settings will be saved to your scene. |
Question: | Are the faders motorized |
Answer: | No the faders are not motorized. When you switch between fader modes and scenes, LEDs indicate what the fader settings were last set on in the mode/scene you switch to. You move the fader manually to the lit setting if you want it there or want to change it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do I hook this up to a ipad wirelessly |
Answer: | Simply connect your iPad to the signal as your WiFi. Then go into the app for the mixer and you can begin setting it up. |
Question: | Does the mixer support phantom power |
Answer: | yes it does |
Question: | Does the mixer have single-channel stereo inputs for keyboards and guitar processers |
Answer: | The mixer is very flexible, it's all about how you program it. Each input is a mono input. Each input can send to one or both sides of a stereo "main" mix. It also has several monitor mix outputs. Each is independent of the main mix. You could configure into a surround sound system, each input can go to an independent different output. I found some tutorials on Youtube that were very helpful. |
Question: | Can i control personals in ear monitor with our iphones with the mixer built in wifi without having the mixer connect the internet? (like mackie dl |
Answer: | Yes. I have this mixer and am very happy with it. I think the built in wifi is great for setup, and non-venue use (reharsals etc). The network established by the built in wifi is a local network, so no internet involved. There are 2 different apps to control xr18. X Air (for ios or android) will allow full control of the mixer from all connected phones/tablets. There's also X Air Q app that only allows control of inputs and levels to the aux busses, not changing the main mix. Performers get this app to do "more me" in their monitors without the ability to "accidentally" mute another performer. Now, if you're going to use this where there are other wifi, people with phones. dang near any public place, please buy a cheap wifi router. I bought a $10 Belkin at Ollie's closeout store and it's been fabulous. A good,, current model one will work even better. Many advantages: Stronger signal, ability to put router and antennas up high, use 5g instead of 2.4mhz (faster, fewer idiots with phones trying to connect to your mixer, etc), and you can keep a laptop wired to one of the other ports on the router for control that cannot fail due to wireless problems. In fact, go to your app store and get the Behringer apps. They have an "offline" simulation mode so you can try em out without having the mixer yet. And a boatload of youtube vids to teach you how to use it all. |

Features such as analogue, MADI, and USB I/O as standard, motorized faders, the Assignable Channel Strip (ACS), TOTEM fast mix access buttons, and VCAs, mean that any aspect of the performance can be served to the surface in an instant, with analogue-style control of its comprehensive feature-set.
From humble beginnings in London more than 40 years ago and still designed and engineered in the UK, Soundcraft defined the term 'British sound' in live sound mixing consoles. Soundcraft Co-Founder Graham Blythe's acclaimed microphone preamps and 'British' equalizer ensures the Si Impact proudly carries Soundcraft's signature sound today.
A Greater Impact
Now combine the 32 mix inputs on the Si Impact console plus all 32 USB inputs for 64 total channels to mix. Add one Soundcraft Mini Stagebox 32i or 16i to get up to 64 mic channels to mix. Or add a second MADI option card and two Mini Stagebox units for up to 96 microphone preamps, 128 total available inputs and 80 channels to mix. Add the Dante option card to get 64 Dante channels to mix. Si Impact isn't just packed with DSP power. It's packed with DSP power from the acknowledged experts in digital FX. That means studio-grade reverbs, delays and modulations from Lexicon, legendary dbx dynamics and industry-standard BSS Graphic Equalizers.

User questions & answers
Question: | How to increase the echo on this system |
Answer: | Echo is number 8 on the selector switch (effects knob) the 2 yellow knobs directly below control the intensity of the effect/echo... You can almost make it infinity but watch the feedback |
Question: | Can this board be used with powered speakers instead of an amp |
Answer: | Yes you can |
Question: | Does it have 2 xlr imputs for my krk rokit 5 speakers |
Answer: | Do you mean 2 xlr outputs? If so, yes, it does along with several 1/4" outputs as well. Not to sound like a jerk, but there are pictures on Amazon that clearly show the outputs and inputs of the board (along with the specifications in type on the page). :) |
Question: | Does the USB output allow multi-track recording or is it just the mixed output signal |
Answer: | Mixed output only.. |

Sonically Superior Mic Preamps
All XENYX mixers have one thing in common – great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. These state-of-the-art mic pres represent a major step in the evolution of audio technology. XENYX preamps offer a staggering 130 dB of dynamic range, with a bandwidth that extends from below 10 Hz to well above 200 kHz. Armed with these outstanding mic preamps, XENYX mixers provide such transparent, crystal-clear performance you just might think someone upgraded your mics while you weren’t looking.
Studio-Quality Compressor - Stairway to Heaven
Our studio-grade compressor is based on classic and famous studio equipment from the 70’s. This totally transparent and musical compressor design allows your full dynamic range to shine through until your signal reaches the compression threshold, which is indicated by the highly visible status LED. The compressor increases sustain and gently smoothens out signal peaks, which is especially handy when you’re laying down the funk, à la slap and pop – or hammering home your most-aggressive metal lines. The resulting output level lets you unleash powerful and impact-laden bass lines, while still sitting right where you need to be in the mix!
Sublimely Musical British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ‘70s changed the sound of rock and roll – without them the British Invasion might not have happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQ on our XENYX mixers is based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to imbue signals with incredible warmth and detailed musical character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit sweet forgiveness and superb audio quality.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i connect mg06x-6 to tv |
Answer: | here's one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Hosa/Stereo-1-4-Inch-Male-TRS-to-Dual-Male-RCA-Insert-Cable.gc |
Question: | Can i connect its out to irig pre (phone-audio interface) which ultimately connected to phones for recording over iphone/ipads |
Answer: | This mixer with its quality mic preamps (real ones, with plenty of adjustable gain) , EQ, channel output volume, etc. is far superior to the iRig Pre. I tried the iRig Pre (and reviewed it) and didn't like it. To emulate the iRig Pre connections, get a TRRS (male) adapter you plug into your phone/tablet that breaks out separate speaker 1/8" TRS (female) and mic 1/8" TRS (female) connectors. You could use either the XLR or the 1/4" outputs of the mixer as input to the mic 1 /8" TRS connector on the adapter. Unlike the iRig Pre, with a mixer like this you have the option of listening to the realtime output of the mixer from its headphone jack or plug your headphones into the speaker 1/8" (female) connector on the adapter to hear it how the phone/ tablet is recording it (which can be time-delayed making it difficult to speak live while listening to non-realtime audio). |
Question: | Are the 1/4 inch outputs TRS for balanced signal to another TRS input? I'm planning on using this as a simple mixer for input to a Bose L1 Compact |
Answer: | The outputs are Stereo outputs, both L and R. (shown on the blue areas of image) |
Question: | Can headphones and stereo out be be controlled independently? I want to listen to either headphones OR speakers, not both at once |
Answer: | On the MG10XU there are two volumes controls. Stereo out and Monitor/Headphones out. I can't tell if this has both knobs or not. You can check the manual for the technical diagram. |

Yamaha MG Series Mixers
For more than a century, Yamaha has been building a legacy of superior craftsmanship and innovation exemplified in all of our products, from an unrivaled catalog of world-class musical instruments to touring-grade professional audio. Now in its third incarnation, the MG Series embodies this pursuit of design excellence, and incorporates some of the same technologies developed for use in high-end professional consoles, including studio-quality preamps, powerful digital processing, and a rugged, reliable construction.
With an intuitive, easy-to-use interface, the MG Series boasts an extensive lineup of compact mixing consoles with models ranging from six to twenty channels, suitable for a diverse range of users and applications. For installed, recording, or live music settings, the solid construction and flexible design of these consoles lets you shape your sound with confidence, continually delivering a level of sound quality and reliability unrivaled in its class.
D-PRE (Discrete Class-A Mic Preamps)
This is where it all starts. Everything you do as a sound engineer is dependent on the quality of your preamps, which determines the direction your mix will take, and ultimately how good it is going to sound. MG Series mixing consoles feature Yamaha's studio-grade discrete class-A D-PRE preamps, which utilize an inverted Darlington circuit comprising two cascading transistors in a configuration that provides more power with lower impedance.
EQ and High-pass Filters
There's nothing more useful than reliable equalization when you need nuanced management of your tone. The MG Series benefits from Yamaha's unparalleled experience in designing pro audio gear, featuring 3-band equalizers on all mono channels for precise control of your sound. High-pass filter allows you to eliminate unwanted low-frequency noise, for a smoother, cleaner mix.
1-Knob Compressors
Compression plays an essential role in just about any recording or sound reinforcement environment by altering the level of dynamics of an audio signal when you need livelier guitars, punchier bass lines, a tighter snare, or a cleaner vocal sound. However, it can take countless hours to master the complexities of even the most basic outboard compression units and use them effectively.
Built-in SPX Digital Effects (MG06X)
For musical and non-musical applications, effects processing adds polish and professionalism to the mix. The MG06X features Yamaha's SPX digital multi-effect processor, offering a comprehensive suite of editable digital effects perfect for enhancing your mix, whether adding depth to a speaking engagement or breathing new color and atmosphere into a live performance.
High Quality Sound Op-amp
The head amp determines sound quality, and op-amp integrated circuits are one of the most important parts in the head amp circuit. MG Series mixers feature new, high-quality, custommade MG01 op-amps that we developed in cooperation with the semiconductor manufacturer. We worked directly with the semiconductor manufacturer to focus on sound quality first.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I add echo and reverb at to the mic |
Answer: | Hi. Any of the onboard effects will work with the with Mic channels. One effect at a time, though. |
Question: | Is this mixer capable of "mix minus" configuration? If so how is it done? I cant seem to get it to produce any audio from the "fx send" port |
Answer: | been trying to determine this for my own setup. thus far it seems No as the AUX is post fader. im trying to isolate the mic on the FX send and have it removed from the main mix.. nothing seems to allow this to happen. i can get the FX send to work but if the usb and the FX send are connected to the same source, both signals carry the mic audio... |
Question: | Can this do multitrack recording |
Answer: | This is a mixer and not any type of recording device. This operates on USB and does not have any recording capability built-in. This is used to record multiple sources at one time and make that into one Stereo/Mono audio output that can be used with a recording software, streaming software, or even a live speaker system. You can record the main output via computer, but even then, this will all be one audio stream, not one for each separate channel. |
Question: | who made it |
Answer: | Probably someone who works for Yamaha. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do i eq from rca inputs? rca inputs/outputs doesn't have eq settings like the other channels have |
Answer: | ALTO support here! The RCA aux inputs don't have the option of EQing. If you prefer EQing the audio, I would recommend using a cable that has 2 1/4" connections so you can plug your audio source to channel 5/6. This will allow you to play your stereo signal through a channel on the mixer with EQ options. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or email us using the contact information on altoproaudio.com/contact. |
Question: | How to remove aux/Channel 2/3 or 4/5 audio input from main mix out but leave mic 'phone monitoring and output enabled |
Answer: | I have a different Model of Mixer but I'll try although I'm not clear about the meaning of your question. The Mic Channel (1) and Line Input Channels (2/3 and 4/5) are always assigned to the Main Output and the Headphones. The AUX Inputs (L and R Phonos) can be sent to the Headphones and The Main Mix with the switches above the Headphone Volume Control. Since I don't know what result you're trying to achieve, this may not be the reply you want, sorry. |
Question: | can i connect passive speakers to this mixer? would it work as speaker amp |
Answer: | The ZMX52 5-channel will not work as a speaker amp. Nor can you connect passive speakers to this mixer . |
Question: | I have separate dj & karaoke setups & need a sound mixer (fx) exclusively for my karaoke player & mic's to powered speakers. is this a best option |
Answer: | I have used this mixer for that exact application & it works great. I suggest taking the music into a pair of the channels that could be used for mics. I prefer this because you get the three levels of EQ when you do that. These controls work very well. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this wireless mic system interfere with a Shure wireless guitar system |
Answer: | I don’t know. My guitarist uses the Xvive wireless as well, and it doesn’t interfere with that one. However, I did have some interference with our digital Mackie board, so we just plugged it into a snake that wasn’t near it and that worked. |
Question: | Will this fit a Shure 55 ( old time) mic.. i know it’s an xlr ..but will it fit on the mic stand |
Answer: | I assume the U3 will connect to your XLR. Mic, but the mic stand is an issue. I have three different mic holders on different stands. All of the are more difficult with the U3 unit attached. One is impossible, while the other two work but not without a little effort. I finally found the technique that works best for me. I put the mic in the holder and push it in a little farther than normal, then connect the U3 to the mic. So, bottomline... it’s a bit of a challenge but I think worth that challenge. Love being wireless! |

Question: | With a mic like a Shure 58, will the mic easily slide in and out of a standard round clip while this transmitter is attached |
Answer: | The simple answer that works for me is to place the M58 into the clip, then attach the Xvive U3 to the back of it. Easy. |
