11 best dynamic microphones with xlrs
Dynamic microphones with XLR connections are versatile audio recording devices commonly used in various settings, including music recording, live performances, broadcasting, podcasting, and more. Here's what you need to know about these microphones:
Dynamic Microphones: Dynamic microphones are known for their durability and ability to handle high sound pressure levels. They are often used for capturing audio in live sound reinforcement, instrument miking, and vocal applications. Dynamic microphones are less sensitive to sound nuances compared to condenser microphones but excel in scenarios where ruggedness and reliability are essential.
XLR Connections: XLR connectors are commonly found on professional audio equipment, including dynamic microphones. These three-pin connectors provide a secure and balanced connection, minimizing interference and noise in the signal path. XLR cables are widely used for transmitting audio signals over relatively long distances.
Multipurpose Use: Dynamic microphones with XLR connections are multipurpose devices suitable for a wide range of applications. They are commonly used for:
Vocal Recording: Dynamic microphones are often used for recording vocals, both in studio settings and for live performances. They can handle high sound pressure levels and are less sensitive to ambient noise.
Instrument Miking: Musicians use dynamic microphones to capture the sound of various instruments such as guitar amplifiers, drums, percussion, and brass instruments.
Podcasting and Broadcasting: Many podcasters and broadcasters prefer dynamic microphones for their durability and ability to reject background noise, making them suitable for use in less controlled environments.
Live Sound Reinforcement: Dynamic microphones are a staple in live sound setups, where they are used for amplifying vocals and instruments on stage.
Durability: Dynamic microphones are built to withstand the rigors of the road and are less sensitive to humidity and temperature changes compared to condenser microphones. This durability makes them an excellent choice for touring musicians and outdoor events.
Polar Patterns: Dynamic microphones often come with various polar patterns, such as cardioid, supercardioid, and omnidirectional. These patterns affect the microphone's directional sensitivity, allowing users to choose the most appropriate pickup pattern for their specific application.
Affordability: Dynamic microphones with XLR connections are typically more affordable than their condenser counterparts, making them an attractive choice for those on a budget or those looking for robust and reliable microphones without the need for extensive sensitivity.
Musicians, audio engineers, podcasters, and broadcasters often rely on dynamic microphones with XLR connections for their versatility, durability, and consistent performance in various recording and live sound applications. The specific model and features of these microphones can vary widely among manufacturers, so it's essential to consider your specific needs and preferences when choosing the right microphone for your application.

User questions & answers
Question: | I thought this came with a 1/8" adapter to bring the size down from 1/4? Maybe I read the ad wrong. Do you sell 1/4 to 1/8 adapters |
Answer: | This mic does not come with that adapter. There are certainly many 1/4" to 1/8" adapters on Amazon. |
Question: | Porque me indica que no tiene cable en la descripción |
Answer: | Biene el cable separado pero en el mismo paquete |
Question: | I need a cable connector to connect this microphone to the machine. What do I need to buy |
Answer: | What do you mean by machine? You can order this mike with a XLR to XLR cable or a XLR to QTR cable. The diference between the XLR and the QTR terminal is the connector. The XLR is a 3 prom jack and the QTR is a 1/4" jack, similar to the 1/8" or 3.5mm jack you use in you cel phone or most of the stereos. If you have a regular 3.5mm input in your stereo, mixer or amplifyer yiu need to buy this mike with a XLR to QTR cable and a Reduction Jack from 1/4" Female to 1/8" Male. All the mikes terminal are XLR Female,, so the difference is at the other end of the cable, You either use a XLR terminal/jack or a 1/4" jack. |
Question: | What is the difference between pga48-qtr and pga48-xlr |
Answer: | the qtr has a 1/4" cable, the XLR has an xlr cable. We have a package with stand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017RLEPZ0/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= or the xlr version: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072DX341N/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= |

User questions & answers
Question: | I have two questions: 1. would this microphone work well for recording audio books? 2. would it work w/ a macbook air laptop |
Answer: | Yes that should work well with your audiobooks. As for the Mac laptop I don’t see why not it offers clear recordings for what I use it for. |
Question: | I need something that is compatible with both a Mac and an iPhone/iPad. Will this work with either or both |
Answer: | This is an old question but has yet to be answered completely so here goes. Yes, this microphone will work through USB with the macOS, Windows OS, most versions of Linux (that I know of), and will work with iOS (iPhone/iPad) devices that can use Apple's camera connection kit (30-pin or Lightning ports) as well as newer ones that use USB-C |
Question: | How well does the microphone pick up a talking level voice from a short distance, say 2 feet |
Answer: | Unfortunately no. This Is a Dynamic mike and it is designed for the speaker to be a few inches away 1-4 at best. What you really need is a Boom mike. If the point is to have people listen to you need the correct mike. For what you want this mike is not for you. |
Question: | Would this microphone be a good fit for a multi host podcast? Each host having one of these mics |
Answer: | this is not a omni direction mic where you put it in the middle and you can record everyone, this is a direct to your mouth, pointed right at your face mic (to put it in simplest terms.) if you want a multi host mic where you can set it on the table and everyone can talk "at it" then look for the Yeti mic. . |

User questions & answers
Question: | I apologize for my ignorance. Need for my church. Does this run on battery alone or does it have to be hooked up to something to work |
Answer: | It does not need a battery, but you do need to connect it to an amplifier that has a mic XLR connection. Mostly this would be a separate pre-amp which is then connected to a larger console or amplifier system, though some systems combines both. |
Question: | How long is the cable that I can get with this mic |
Answer: | If the official Shure part number SM58-CN is selected, the "CN" means a 25' XLR microphone cable will be included. Other variants include SM58S which is microphone with an on/off switch, SM58-LC which is microphone only with no cable. |
Question: | What amplifier or mixer [ $20- $50 ] should i buy which is compatible with sm58 ? need suggestion |
Answer: | While there are some modest guitar amplifiers in your price range, systems for amplifying vocals tend to be more expensive. You'd be looking for a "Public Address" or "PA" system, with some compact setups starting in the $100 range. Brands like Samson, Behringer, Alesis, and Roland have some models at the lower end of the price spectrum. |
Question: | Feel free to laugh a bit and excuse my ignorance. I am starting voice lessons does this microphone only work with a computer? Or can I hook it up to something different? Ok no more laughing. Thank You |
Answer: | I'd like to correct a statement that's been made about the SM-58, which is the most popular, universal "performer's mic," found in every band that can afford it and serving as the White House microphone for heads of state. It's a "dynamic" rather than a "condenser mic," which means it's durable, tough, long-lasting, made to take abuse. But it's not the preferred microphone in the recording studio, which is where the more sensitive, nuanced condenser microphone shines (but don't toss it in a bag and "take it on the road"). Condenser mics require more power than dynamic mics, and that power is called "phantom power," which is found in most mixing boards and in many amps--and in this handy adapter. But you do NOT require Phantom Power for an XLR connection: you require it for a CONDENSER MIC. And since the popular SM58 is a DYNAMIC MIC, the Phantom Power is wasted, a needless add-on. If you want to convert your XLR to USB (or to a phone plug), there are many adapters and cables for $10 that will do the trick You certainly don't need to invest a hundred in the pictured adapter--that's sheer "overkill. It's a bit of a mystery why sellers are showing the SM58 with a Phantom-Powered Adapter for condenser mics. You may be wasting $100 on one or the other of these incompatible devices. |

Question: | Are you able to use this as a usb mic / be able to put this into your macbook pro |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Does it come with a stand or an XLR cable |
Answer: | Depends, what are you recording? Original yeti is large and a bit more versatile, you can record in 4 different audio direction, i.e omnidirectional, cardioid, bidirectional, and stereo making it ideal for recording YouTube videos, podcasts, large groups, or instrumentals. Yeti nano has 2 audio recording options , Omni and bidirectional, so made more for podcasts and YouTube videos. It’s also smaller. If you want to check out the nano I did a unboxing of the gold yeti nano, search on YouTube Julian Lonzoe yeti nano. It looks pretty awesome. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this mic be used to sing vocals in Rock Band 4 on Xbox One |
Answer: | Rode NT-USB USB Microphone - more of a low-end voice over mic, a little more expensive, no issues, sounds very good (I use it for video narration). Probably not as good for Rock Band. I was very excited by the Audio-Technica AT2005USB as I like the "form factor" (much more like all of the normal handheld mic's we have, Shure SM58 type) and that it could also use an xlr cable. When I returned the mic, I was far from the only person experiencing issues with it on usb - perhaps there this issue has been resolved. As I said before, when it worked it sounded great. |
Question: | Does this work well for gaming chat? I use Mumble w/ voice activation. Blue Snowball picks up everything including mouse clicks. Would this be better |
Answer: | This mic is highly directional. Therefore it does not pick up as much extraneous sound (i.e. mouse clicks, fan noises, etc). The downside is that you must speak right into it. I work about five inches away form it and find it a bit quieter than my Blue Yeti. Sound quality is very good. |
Question: | Will this work good for podcasting |
Answer: | This is a GREAT mic for podcasting! Many of the top podcastors use and recommend the ATR 2100, but they all say that the AT 2005 looks better. You can just plug it into your computer and use free audio software to record your podcast episodes. It really is that simple to get great sounding audio. The construction is very solid. I have used mine in the heat and humidity of West Africa for almost a year now with no complaints. Mike Phillips, a very reputable expert on microphones, has some great things to say about this mic as well. It is a podcastors must have! |
Question: | Anyone happen to know the difference between this mic and the ATR |
Answer: | This is the big brother. I have both and they are hard to tell apart. The sound it reproduces is a slightly different field than ATR2100. Price would be the discerning factor in a buy, for me. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you connect multiple mv7 mics to the same computer via usb |
Answer: | It’s maye a ruler and a half. If you purchase it make sure you apply the resin to the bow otherwise you will assume it doesn’t work 😂 my 4 year old loves it |
Question: | Has anyone used this mic with the rode psa1 microphone boom - mainly, is the mic heavy enough |
Answer: | It's very delicate, but it's a real violin. You could start with the Suzuki method and see if the 5 year old likes to play it. If so, you can decide to rent or buy a violin that fits the size of the child as she grows. The price is good as a starter instrument, and the pink color is adorable. |
Question: | Being that this is a condenser mic, how much background noise does it pick up |
Answer: | This is a small child size violin (3-5 years old). It can only be used with formal violin instruction by a violin teacher. The child can play the strings with the bow but it is not easy to play any tune without violin lessons. |
Question: | why is this using micro usb? does this company know about USB type C |
Answer: | This is a real violin perfect size for a 4-5 year old. My granddaughter like many girls, likes pink. She might take Suzuki lessons on it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is a pop filter recommended |
Answer: | Yes. |
Question: | Are returns/refunds available for this microphone |
Answer: | This would need to be plugged into a microphone input....your computer likely doesn't have one built in. You can get a USB interface to plug this mic into, then USB into your computer. Or you could just get a USB microphone and a pair of headphones. This is an awesome package for it's price, but it will need to go into a mic input to work. |
Question: | It refuses to turn on with my macbook pro. i have changed cables and ports. the previous model has no problems. any ideas |
Answer: | You do not have to buy a recorder to use the mic and headphones. |
Question: | It keeps having this constant annoying audio humming noise in the background when I plug my handphones into the mic, or play it back |
Answer: | Depends on which audio-technica mic. These ZDM1 microphones sound great in the broadcast dynamic category. They can make a good run at something that sells for $400+. |

Answer: | Mono. TS means Tip and Sleeve, two conductors. TRS would be Tip, Ring, and Sleeve, three conductors -- stereo or 2 channel with common ground (sleeve). I used these to connect 1/4" plug of a speaker wire to the banana plug connector on the back of the amplifier. Two speakers? Then you need two of these. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can it be handheld |
Answer: | Yes it can. The only bad thing about this mic is it is made of plastic. But over all it sounds great. |
Question: | IS this made of cheap plastic that will strip easily |
Answer: | We actually used ours for a music video but the quality of the microphone was great! I didn't see it as cheap at all, and not plastic! |
Question: | What stand should i use or does it come with one |
Answer: | It doesn't come with a stand, but you can use a regular stand |
Question: | Can we plug the mic to a computer |
Answer: | Yeah my brother has this paired with the focusrite solo, Which has a usb connector you put into your pc. You plug your xlr into it and con monitor it directly with gain, and it's good if you plan on upgrading from this mic in the future. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Mounting screws size |
Answer: | 8"x8" x 60" |
Question: | does it come with the metal piece to connect it to a mic stand |
Answer: | Probably not. The HEOS bar has its own DSP to decode the audio into left, right and center channels. You have no way to tell the bar to just process center channels. If you send it a center channel signal from an AVR then it may or may not process that into the center channel. It would be an expensive center channel anyway so I would look for a simpler solution. |
