14 best vocal condenser microphone
A vocal condenser microphone is a type of microphone designed specifically for capturing vocal performances and other sound sources with high clarity and detail. It falls under the category of condenser microphones, which are known for their sensitivity and precision. Here's what you need to know about vocal condenser microphones:
Condenser Microphone Technology: Condenser microphones are known for their use of a diaphragm and a backplate, separated by a small air gap, to convert sound waves into electrical signals. This design allows them to capture audio with great accuracy.
Sensitivity: Vocal condenser microphones are highly sensitive and can capture a wide range of frequencies, making them ideal for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, and other audio sources that require detailed reproduction.
Cardioid Polar Pattern: Many vocal condenser microphones feature a cardioid polar pattern, which means they primarily capture sound from the front while rejecting sound from the sides and rear. This pattern helps reduce background noise and feedback during live performances or studio recording.
Large Diaphragm vs. Small Diaphragm: Vocal condenser microphones often come in two main diaphragm sizes: large diaphragm and small diaphragm.Large-diaphragm mics are favored for their warmth and depth, while small-diaphragm mics excel at capturing fast transients and detailed high frequencies.
Studio and Live Performance: Vocal condenser microphones are commonly used in both studio recording and live performance settings. In the studio, they are used for capturing vocals, acoustic instruments, and other critical audio sources. In live performance, they can provide superior sound quality for vocalists.
Phantom Power: Condenser microphones, including vocal condensers, require phantom power to operate. This is usually provided by a mixing console, audio interface, or external phantom power supply.
Pop Filters and Shock Mounts: To enhance their performance, vocal condenser microphones are often used with accessories such as pop filters (to reduce plosive sounds) and shock mounts (to isolate them from vibrations).
Price Range: Vocal condenser microphones come in a wide price range, from affordable options suitable for home studios to high-end models used in professional recording environments. The price can vary based on the microphone's brand, build quality, and features.
Notable Brands: Several reputable microphone manufacturers produce high-quality vocal condenser microphones, including Shure, Audio-Technica, Neumann, AKG, Rode, and more.
Care and Maintenance: Proper care and maintenance, such as using a protective case and regularly cleaning the microphone diaphragm, can prolong the lifespan and performance of a vocal condenser microphone.
Vocal condenser microphones are essential tools for recording and amplifying vocals and various musical instruments with precision and clarity, making them a valuable asset for musicians, recording engineers, and audio professionals.

User questions & answers
Question: | What kind of cable does it use |
Answer: | Balanced mic/patch cable, Male XLR to Female XLR |
Question: | Hi, if I buy this mic., do I also need a shock mount beside phantom 48v power supply & xlr cable? So is phantom itself act as a mixer at the same time |
Answer: | You do not "need" a shock mount as the V67G comes with a hard mount, later on down the road you may want to upgrade to one. Phantom power is just power that is sent over a mic cable to power the mic. It usually comes from an audio interface or mixer. So yes, you would need a Mixer or an Audio interface to use this. |
Question: | Is this mic better than the audio-technica at2035 large diaphragm studio condenser microphone |
Answer: | My opinion, both Mics are entry level studio quality. The Audio Tech is a solid mic, it is a better quality built, the MXL has that crisp high's sound. So MXL wins on sound quality, but few adjustments on your DAW, and Audio Tech sounds very similar But If you check out the "level up" MXL mics like the MXL 550/551R Microphone Ensemble, is little more expensive than MXL V64g. My opinion, the Audio Tech is a famous brand. Similar level, I can't say its better.. but i will always choose the MXL brand over any HOME use mic. In studio, I prefer the Rode Mics for my voice. |
Question: | Can you just plug this into a computer or does it need to go through a sound board |
Answer: | This mic used phantom power, which means that it is not suited to just plug in to your computer without an interface. If just plugging directly in is what you want to do, then I would suggest looking at the Blue, snowball or Yeti Pro, the apogee mic, or any other usb condenser mic. |

- Cardioid polar pattern
- Ultra-low noise, self-noise of only 5dB (A)
- Includes Rode SM6 shock mount, pop filter and dust cover
- Internal capsule shock mounting
User questions & answers
Question: | what if i just want the microphone? can i just pay for that |
Answer: | Now you can anyways but only in the nt1 and nt1000. It still comes with a clip and dust cover just no shock mount and cable. Its just called RODE NT1 no -KIT at the end. |
Question: | Can you use this for voice acting? Also if that is the case then how can you record with this |
Answer: | Yes, you could definitely use this to record voice acting. Especially if you are recording from home. What you also need is an audio interface to record. I also suggest looking into the the Rode NT1 which is the newer version of this mic. Either one is a great mic. I own them both. |
Question: | Based on reviews alone. Why would one spend 144 more for this mic, over something like the MXL 770. Is the quality that much better |
Answer: | so much better(another world) |
Question: | Is this a large diaphragm microphone? My son is a rapper and that is what he wants and I 'm not even sure what it is |
Answer: | Yes, this is a large diaphragm condenser microphone. The "large diaphragm" refers to the circular surface that you see behind the mesh screen of the mic. Large means a larger circular surface as opposed to a smaller circular surface. When you sing, rap, play instrument, etc. in front of the mic, the sound that you generate vibrates against the diaphragm creating the electronic signal that is transferred through the mic into your recorder or PA system (in live performances; although generally condenser mics are preferred in the studio while dynamic mics are preferred for live performances due to the sensitivity of condenser mics to loud sounds, i.e., live performances). The size of the diaphragm (in this case large) affects the clarity, volume, EQ, and general signal quality that you get. Large diaphragm microphones (LDMs) are generally the choice for studio vocals, and any instrument recording where a more "deep" sound is desired. A large diaphragm microphone generally warms up the sound of what it's recording, which also leads to the myth that most LDMs reproduce low frequencies better than small diaphragm mics; this isn't true, in fact, small diaphragm mics are much better at reproducing everything evenly, including bass. You'll want a pop screen if using a condenser microphone for vocals; they're so sensitive to transient noises that the "P" and "SH" sounds you make will cause distortion. Small diaphragm microphones (SDMs) are generally the best choice where you want a solid, wide frequency response and the best transient response, which is the ability for your microphone to reproduce fast sounds, such as stringed instruments. SDMs are also the preferred choice for concert taping. I hope this helps. |

Question: | Does it come with a stand or an XLR cable |
Answer: | Depends, what are you recording? Original yeti is large and a bit more versatile, you can record in 4 different audio direction, i.e omnidirectional, cardioid, bidirectional, and stereo making it ideal for recording YouTube videos, podcasts, large groups, or instrumentals. Yeti nano has 2 audio recording options , Omni and bidirectional, so made more for podcasts and YouTube videos. It’s also smaller. If you want to check out the nano I did a unboxing of the gold yeti nano, search on YouTube Julian Lonzoe yeti nano. It looks pretty awesome. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how close do vocalists need to be compared to SM |
Answer: | I use it with my Pro Tools system just fine. Just plug it into your interface and you should be fine. |
Question: | I have been told to buy sound equipment, especially mics from shure. is this microphone manufactured buy shure? please let me know |
Answer: | The Boss PSA 120 adapter that comes with it is good for 100-240 volts, 50-60 HZ, but you will need a 220V plug adapter for the country you using it in. No USB. |
Question: | I received this item on April 13, 2018 and it just stopped working. What is the warranty period for this item |
Answer: | The simple answer is yes. What I recommend is downloading the PDF User Guide and review the information on the external switch. You can use an expression pedal and you can control functions. Beyond that, I am not qualified to give you an in-depth review for two reasons: I don't use the product that way, and not really sure what you want to accomplish (i.e., just get the PDF). I will say it is a great product and has some really good sounds! |
Question: | Can the SM86 condenser mic work for choir vocals to pick up multiple voices at a distance |
Answer: | I don't know. But I suppose if the TC doesn't have an output wattage and is just a signal processor, I don't see why not. You have 1/4" and Mic inputs on the side. I would recommend contacting Boss and asking them directly. |
