9 best cad recording headphones

CAD recording headphones, also known as studio headphones, are a crucial piece of equipment for anyone involved in audio recording, especially for vocalists, musicians, and sound engineers. These headphones are designed to provide accurate, high-quality sound reproduction, making them essential for critical listening and monitoring during recording, mixing, and mastering sessions. Here's what you need to know about CAD recording headphones:

  1. Purpose: CAD recording headphones are primarily used for monitoring audio during recording sessions. They help the user hear exactly what is being recorded or played back, allowing for precise adjustments to levels, tone, and effects.

  2. Sound Quality: These headphones are known for their accurate sound reproduction. They aim to provide a flat frequency response, meaning they don't artificially boost or attenuate specific frequencies. This neutrality helps ensure that the audio you hear is faithful to the original source.

  3. Closed-Back Design: Many CAD recording headphones have a closed-back design. This design helps isolate the listener from external sounds and prevents sound leakage, making them ideal for recording vocals or instruments in a quiet and controlled environment.

  4. Comfort: Comfort is essential for long recording or mixing sessions.CAD recording headphones are designed with padded ear cushions and adjustable headbands to ensure comfort during extended use.

  5. Impedance: These headphones often come with different impedance ratings. Low-impedance headphones are suitable for use with portable devices like audio interfaces, while high-impedance models may require dedicated headphone amplifiers for optimal performance.

  6. Driver Size: The size of the headphone drivers can vary. Larger drivers typically provide more extended bass response, but the choice depends on personal preference and the specific application.

  7. Cable Length and Connectivity: CAD recording headphones often come with detachable and replaceable cables of varying lengths. This flexibility allows users to choose the cable length that suits their setup. Common connectors include 3.5mm jacks and 1/4-inch jacks, making them compatible with various audio equipment.

  8. Price Range: CAD recording headphones are available in a wide price range, from affordable options for beginners to high-end models for professional studios. The price often correlates with the quality of materials, sound reproduction, and additional features.

  9. Brands: CAD Audio is a well-known brand that offers a range of recording and studio headphones. However, there are many other reputable brands in the market, such as Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Beyerdynamic, Sony, and more, each offering their own unique models and features.

  10. Usage Beyond Recording: While CAD recording headphones are essential for recording and mixing, they are also commonly used by musicians and audiophiles for general listening, especially those who appreciate accurate sound reproduction.

In conclusion, CAD recording headphones are a critical tool for professionals and enthusiasts in the music and audio industry. They provide accurate sound representation, comfort, and isolation, making them indispensable for recording, mixing, and critical listening applications. The choice of headphones depends on individual preferences, budget, and specific recording needs.

User questions & answers

Question: Do these headphones come with a carrying case
Answer: No, they don't come, but I suggest to buy a case just in case. If you don't want to, buy it without a case, those are durable headphones, but you never know if you'll need the case to carry them in a bag, back pack, carry on.
Question: How does this compare to the ATH-M30? And how comfortable is it for extended hours of use
Answer: I can only respond to the 2nd part of your question as I have not tried the ATH-M30, but the ATH M20X was (for me) extremely uncomfortable even after using for only a short period of time. This was due to the, IMO, excessive heat build-up which literally caused pools of sweat to collect inside the earpieces. I returned the headset after a few days.
Question: are these good for big heads? i have trouble finding headphones that fit comfortably over my big head. also i wear glasses if that helps
Answer: They are pretty tight on the head, and they go over the ear, so if you're wearing glasses the soft part will push on your frames. I can't wear my glasses with them because I find it too uncomfortable. It might be better to look at on ear, rather than around ear headphones. That said, I've been able to loosen the headphones a lot by bending the the metal headband. If you're not afraid to do that with $50 then you might be able to get them to a comfortable "clamp" amount, haha.
Question: Are these noise-canceling enough to wear on a plane and not hear the plane noise
Answer: They do NOT have electronic noise canceling. They are over the ear. The cups absorb outside sound but not enough that would be considered "noise cancelling". They're mainly for DJ's, home, and professional studio producers who use them because electronic "Noise Cancelling" tech interferes with recordings.

User questions & answers

Question: How LONG in feet is the detachable cord
Answer: 9-10 Feet.
Question: Is this an original brand? or It is made in China
Answer: The inside sticker on a pair of these purchased in 2020 shows that it is "Made in China". The production country doesn't always indicate the quality as many name-brands have been outsourced to China.
Question: These being 55 ohm models, can you really get by without a headphone amp? I'm coming from Grado SR80s which sound fine without an amp, imho. This is for personal use, no mixing or DJing. Probably using a laptop or my Cowon MP3 player usually
Answer: Note : I'm hard of hearing (severe to profound, with more loss in the higher frequency) Comparing these to a Sennheiser HD 280 Pro that I am replacing (the right side died from a bad wire after just a year), using my desktop computer and my Samsung Galaxy J7 Star phone as a reference (using Google Music). On my desktop PC, which is basically your typical RealTek type of integrated sound card, they are a bit on the quiet side, but possibly audible enough for most people with a normal hearing range, but I am able to hear the vocals and bass, just more quietly than I like. The HD280Pro above was a louder by default (but has a higher impedance oddly enough). On my mobile phone, it's louder and while it may not be cranking it out, it's definitely loud enough for me to enjoy without a problem. When paired with my Tascam DR60Mk2 4-channel audio recorder, using the computer output into CH1/CH2 XLR inputs at a 'LOW' gain setting, and headphones plugged into the Phone monitoring 3.5mm jack with an output volume around 6~8 depending, it is much louder and closer to what I prefer. Also with the amplication provided on the tascam (Which is overkill for computer purpose, and meant more as a field recorder) with a Low gain setting is a very clean signal to the headphones and definitely loud enough for someone who is close to deaf as I am. Nutshell : even with me being hard of hearing, using the headphones with a mobile phone or computer directly, it's loud enough for me to hear it, even if it's not like "jamming". Sidenote : Compared to the Sennheiser, these are semi-open backs (versus a closed back), which means not only do the K240 exhibit sounds that other people in the room will be able to hear what you're listening to easily, it also means that as I'm typing on a mechanical keyboard with 'red' switches, I can hear my clacking typing while music is playing on the headphones.
Question: What is better for recording and mixing guitar, vocals (for metal). And mixing them. AKG 240 or Audio-Technica ATH-M50? Why
Answer: I can't comment on the ATH-M50, as I haven't used one yet. The AKG 240 however is a very good set, but I wouldn't use headphones to mix final masters. Especially not when you have to listen to screaming guitars. For tracking vocals you should be carefull as a sensitive mic would "listen" to the headphones too. Not always welcome when recording soft passages. Hope this helps

User questions & answers

Question: Is there an usb a to usb c audio adapter so u2 headphone can be used my cell phone
Answer: This wouldn't work. You need something with a TRRS connection for your cell phone.
Question: Does this work with an apple computer? Trying to find what works so we can restart Rosetta stone
Answer: Dear M O'Reilly. Sorry to say that I use this set for "GoToMeeting" on my PC with Windows 7 Home Edition. Works like a dream for that. However, I have never touched a Mac, and have no idea how they work, nor how the CAD U2 USB would work with a Mac.... or not!. Bailey Squier, [email protected]
Question: is it good for overlaying harmonies and piano
Answer: The mic is very "near field" and while very clean might not be best for singing. For simple "good enough" music for your own usage, it would be okay for the voice, but probably wouldn't do for the piano being that the sound level would be too variable based on the distance. That is, the strings far away from the mic would not be heard, while those close up would be too loud. It wouldn't be my first choice for musical applications, though I may try it for singing. I'll update and let you know.
Question: Is a "10-inch" usb cable really considered "extended length"? that is pretty short
Answer: Good Afternoon - The USB Cable is 10 Feet NOT 10 Inches. The description was provided by Amazon and we cannot change it on our own. I have contacted Amazon to fix this error...
