User questions & answers
Question: | Is this one specifically for singers use or would it be more prominent of a difference for me to buy the orange one |
Answer: | The SM35 has the larger frequency response range at 40-20k Hz compared to the SM31FH's 45-20k Hz so the SM35 will be slightly better for singing. The SM31FH (Orange) features sweat proof/resistant features which will prevent rusting in humid environments. |
Question: | Does the wired version of this mic require phantom power? if so, then what powers it when connected to usb icicle |
Answer: | Yes, this does require phantom power. I almost sent it back, thinking it didn't work, then I pushed phantom power button and it came alive. The description of the Icicle says "It's even got 48V phantom power for those power-hungry condenser mics." So you should be good to go. |
Question: | This looks exactly like the model for fitness instructors, yet all reviews look like musicians - it's model number matches as well? Fitness use |
Answer: | The SM35 is not specifically designed for fitness use as it does not offer the type of sweat/water protection that the SM31FH offers. The reason musicians use the SM35 over the SM31FH is because it has a larger and much higher quality microphone capsule which offers better sound quality compared to that of the SM31FH. |
Question: | If the mic is wireless and I buy a body pack transmitter, is there a base station needed? If so which one |
Answer: | It depends on what type of a system you are looking for. Shure offers numerous wireless systems and the SM35 headset microphone is compatible with most.If you want to purchase the entire system with the SM35 already included, you can look at:BLX14R/SM35: http://www.shure.com/americas/products/wireless-systems/blx-wireless-systems/blx14r-sm35GLXD14/SM35:http://www.shure.com/americas/products/wireless-systems/glxd-digital-wireless-systems/glxd14-sm35QLXD14/SM35: http://www.shure.com/americas/products/wireless-systems/qlxd-digital-wireless-systems/qlxd14-sm35If you already have a Shure body pack, then you will need to buy the corresponding receiver to use it with. User questions & answers
Question: | Most of the answers say this is for low impedence mics. i'm looking for a way to connect the wireless audio2000s mic system to my computer. will i have any problems if i'm using a macbook pro and the mic receiver has an output of what appears to be 600 ohms |
Answer: | The power you need to power up the capsule comes from the wireless transmitter. The RK100PK needs phantom power from the mixer. Hope this helps. |
Question: | What does the "monitor" dial do |
Answer: | Shure states in their official website that RK100PK is not recommended for Beta 98 h/c as following: https://www.shure.com/en-US/support/find-an-answer/preamp-rk100pk-for-shure-wb98h-c The RPM 626 is the preferred preamp for this particular microphone. |
Question: | Does the +48V button act as a power switch? Does it have to be "on" to pass signal through? (I already have phantom power supply in the audio chain |
Answer: | This works with that lav, as long as the lav is terminated with a TA4 plug on the endI have about 25 of these and it is the right piece |
Question: | Can this adapter let me plug a USB mic into an XLR mixing board |
Answer: | Hi Scott,According to Shure, yes it will work, and it also will distort less easily that the original preamp that came with the WL183. So it's actually a great replacement. Please consider buying from us if this was helpful. - Pixel Pro Audio |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work as a mic stand mounted choir mic |
Answer: | It does use phantom power. The desktop base does not contain any power and does not have an on/off switch. I have seen other vendor bases sold separately that do contain an on/off switch. Perhaps one of these bases may utilize lithium ion batteries for some purpose. |
Question: | where is this manufactured |
Answer: | No it does not. We ordered the Shure CVD-B XLR Desktop Base, 12-Inch Cable (Black) to use with this microphone. The XLR desktop base does have a rubber vibration absorbing finish on the bottom. |
Question: | Will this microphone fit into a regular floor mounted microphone stand? If not, is there a microphone clip that is designed to hold a podium mic |
Answer: | No, not batteries. The mic does have a built-in preamp which requires power, but that is supplied by either the mixer through Phantom Power, or through an external, separate Phantom supply. Great mic and great value btw. I have a few of them in use. |
Question: | can I just plug the wire from my regular microphone to this, or do I need phantom power kit |
Answer: | Yes I think it works with all Shure small head mic's |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with a mic stand or shock mount to hold it or do I need to buy my own? Also If I need my own what do you suggest |
Answer: | This microphone has it's own mount, that provides slight separation from any vibration noise. There is no elastic suspension "shock mount" available for this unit - but is a very rugged mic that can take a beating. Any decent stand will do... but because the SM7B is fairly heavy, I'd advise if your going to hang it off a boom stand, I'd find a sturdy one with a decent counter weight. I use an Atlas Sound MS20E Heavy Duty Microphone Stand or the On Stage SMS7650 Hex-Base Studio Boom Microphone Stand. |
Question: | Do you need a mixamp/preamp/mixer/audio interface to use this microphone on a PC or is it optional |
Answer: | The question is specifically asking about using this mic with a PC, and although it's a 6 year old question, it still needs to be flooded with correct answers to hide the bad one inexplicably found at the top, even though its Yes:No helpfulness ratio is atrocious and is neither the newest nor the oldest answer. This absolutely needs an interface to be used with a PC. A lot of these answers are going on about the preamp, but regardless of how you get power to this thing--whether it be preamps onboard your interface or whatnot--you will absolutely need some sort of interface to, well, interface with your computer. Whether it be USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt, or PCIe, you will 1000% need a way to get the signal into your PC. That aside, you will definitely want good way to drive it given its output level. |
Question: | Is this the mic Marc Maron uses on the show for podcasting |
Answer: | Per Marc Maron on a mic website "In the garage I use two Shure SM7s into a Samson MDR6 mixer into Garage Band on my mac. On the road I use a Zoom H4n and two Blue Encore 100 mics." However, the SM7B is a great broadcast mic. I use it for studio vocals. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How does the shure sm7b compare to the blue yeti pro |
Answer: | I use the Shure SM7b for all of my voiceover and singing recording. The Blue Yeti Pro doesn't even place when compared in all honestly. The Blue Yeti Pro has a WAY higher noise floor, and sounds muddy and slightly muffled when comparing the two back to back. And I see a lot of people saying, "A cloudlifter won't help," and I can say from first-hand experience, that this isn't true. Personally I recommend picking up a Fethead, or an sE Electronics DM1, however, all three do the same thing, but some cost more than others, (I'm using the DM1, and I've been very happy with my purchase.) Originally I was using a Focusrite Scarlet Solo, 2nd Gen, and my audio was clean. Any mic activators helps bring this mic up to great levels without getting any pre-amp noise. I've since upgraded to an Audient ID4, and my audio is super clean. I don't get any noise from the mic, pre-amp, or the interface. That being said, the SM7b is more expensive, but even despite this, I definitely recommend the SM7b over Blue Yeti Pro any day. |

Question: | Can this work with a condenser mic with a phantom supply derived from the digital recorder |
Answer: | Yes, it should. As long as you get the one with the TQG connector. |
Question: | do i need 2 of these if hooking up to h4n? if not, won't it only record 1 sided |
Answer: | I’m pretty sure it will work. The xlr preamp included is removable so the mic can either plug directly into a mixer with it, or into the blx beltpack without it. The lav should have shure’s TQG connector built-in and the xlr portion is removable. |
Question: | I need to reduce signal level from a 2-ch preamp to a 2-ch power amp. How tight a tolerance do these attenuators maintain |
Answer: | I believe I used an 1” to 1-1/4” hole. You need enough room to plug it into the XLR cord connector. |

Applications
Connect the 520DX directly into a guitar amplifier to produce the classic blues harp sound. Use the following guidelines:
- The volume control on the microphone should be turned down before plugging it into an amplifier. As you move away from the amplifier, the volume can be turned up.
- Adjust the microphone's volume control knob during performances as needed. For example, when switching from playing rhythm to lead or to place the microphone on standby between sets.
- To avoid feedback, maintain as much distance as possible from monitors or loudspeakers. Adjust the volume of monitors or loudspeakers at the mixing console so that no feedback is present when the volume control knob on the harmonica microphone is at its maximum setting.
