13 best onstage vocal mic

An onstage vocal microphone, commonly referred to as a stage mic, is a specialized microphone designed for live performances, concerts, and other onstage vocal applications. These microphones are crucial for amplifying the voices of singers and performers in a way that ensures clear and balanced sound for both the audience and the performers themselves. Here are some key points about onstage vocal microphones:

  1. Dynamic Microphone Type: Most onstage vocal microphones are dynamic microphones. Dynamic mics are preferred for live applications because they are rugged, durable, and capable of handling high sound pressure levels (SPL) without distortion.

  2. Cardioid Pickup Pattern: Stage microphones typically have a cardioid pickup pattern, which means they are most sensitive to sound coming from the front while rejecting sound from the sides and rear. This helps reduce feedback and noise from the stage.

  3. Durability: Onstage vocal microphones are designed to withstand the rigors of live performances. They often have sturdy metal construction and a grille that protects the microphone's diaphragm from damage.

  4. Singing and Speech: These microphones are versatile and suitable for both singing and spoken word performances. They are commonly used by vocalists, singers, public speakers, and announcers.

  5. Handling Noise Reduction: Many onstage vocal microphones feature internal shock mounts or isolation mechanisms that reduce handling noise, ensuring that vibrations from handling the microphone do not interfere with the sound.

  6. Built-In Pop Filters: Some models include built-in pop filters or foam windshields to minimize plosive sounds like "p" and "b" sounds, reducing the need for external pop filters.

  7. XLR Connector: Stage microphones usually have an XLR connector, which is the standard for professional audio equipment. They connect to a mixing console or audio interface using an XLR cable.

  8. Frequency Response: The frequency response of these microphones is tailored to capture the human voice accurately. The response curve is typically optimized for vocal ranges, providing a natural and clear sound.

  9. Wireless Options: In some cases, onstage vocal microphones can be wireless, allowing performers greater freedom of movement on stage. These wireless systems include a transmitter and receiver.

  10. Polar Pattern Variations: While cardioid is the most common polar pattern for stage vocal microphones, some models may offer variations like supercardioid or hypercardioid patterns for more precise sound rejection.

  11. Live Sound Reinforcement: Onstage vocal microphones are a crucial part of live sound reinforcement systems, ensuring that the audience can hear the performer's vocals clearly, even in noisy concert environments.

  12. Microphone Stands: To use these microphones effectively, performers often use microphone stands or mounts to position the mic at the right height and angle for their performance.

In summary, onstage vocal microphones are essential tools for live performances, designed to capture the voices of singers and performers accurately while minimizing background noise and feedback. Their durability, cardioid pickup pattern, and tailored frequency response make them a reliable choice for amplifying vocals in a wide range of live music and public speaking settings.

User questions & answers

Question: does it work with the blue yeti
Answer: I bought this for my blue yeti and it was a true waste of money for that purpose. Even after spending 15 minutes trying to carefully coax it on, it still tore a little bit and didn't fully cover the microphone or do ANYTHING to improve the sound quality. I would highly recommend spending the extra $6 on this product instead of wasting $3 on this one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B085RN4THZ/
Question: work for h
Answer: Yes, it's fit 100% without any problem
Question: Can this fit on a microphone behringer XM

Question: Does this fit on the Zoom H4n

User questions & answers

Question: question will this hold an audio technica 2050 mic
Answer: I would think so. It's small but very strong tubing. It locks very positively with gear type teeth. It will not creep down like a friction disc lock.
Question: What is the largest diameter pole I could clamp this to
Answer: Don't know the largest, but have clamped it to mic stands and cymbal stands for both acoustic and vdrums and have been more than satisfied! I am a singing drummer and I attach an ipad mount to it to for lyrics, which only clamps to a max of a mic stand.
Question: If I use this to clamp a mic to the vertical stand on which my ipad is mounted, will there be a proper distance for reading charts from the ipad
Answer: OK, so you are trying to mount your IPod, to a mic stand, along with a microphone. It am depends upon the type of microphone you are using. The closer the guitar is to the microphone, the better the sound will be. As far as the Ipod; how's your vision ?
Question: Will this hold a bluebird blue mic
Answer: This is just a mic stand extension that attaches to a mic stand. You need to screw on a mic clip or shock mount onto it to hold a mic. If you are asking will it carry the weight of that mic, my guess would be yes but it is intended for lighter weight pencil mics to mic a guitar while you stand.

  • Folding legs with plastic endcaps for durability and reduced floor vibrations
  • Steel midpoint locking clutch adjusts height from 32" to 61.5"
  • 30" removable boom arm allows for easy positioning

User questions & answers

Question: Do I need to buy a microphone mount for this? Will any fit on there
Answer: Yes, you need a mount. There are several on amazon - look on the stand page under what other people bought ..., or do a search of MS7701 microphone adapter or mount.
Question: will the stand work with a blue yeti
Answer: It absolutely does. This stand screws in perfectly to the Blue Yeti, and it hold the mic up no problem. Just make sure you tighten all the screws.
Question: Would this be too heavy to use as a boom mic stand for a movie
Answer: Actually it's too light and tends to fall over. It also would be a terrible way to hold a boom mic. If you need a low budget boom mic holder use a painters extension pole and rig up a shock mount from the mic from rubber bands and PVC pipe cult into rings.
Question: Can you unscrew the boom arm and use the base as a normal vertical microphone stand? Does the vertical part end in a standard 5/8" thread
Answer: Hi Kevin. Sorry for the late response. Yes you can unscrew the boom. The base of the stand is wider than a standard round base so you would have to be careful not to step on or bump the base leg as you would be standing closer to the microphone stand without the boom extension. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use this to attach the apogee MiC to the end of the onstage ms7701 boom stand
Answer: Yes ... I believe these are universal so you should be able to use it with any mic and any mic stand. Worked great for my setup
Question: Does anyone know if this will work for mounting the small satellite speakers of the HK LUCAS NANO 300 PA onto standard US mic stands
Answer: I attempted to quickly determine the threads used in mounts of the mentioned satellites but failed to find that information. So you can best answer, if you are a current owner, by measuring the threads on the base of your speaker. It is more likely those are M8 (metric) than 3/8".Even assuming the threads do fit, you may want to consider a more robust solution. It appears these units, though small, are heavier than I would recommend mounting with only an adapter like this one; however if you used this only to retain the unit on a larger base, that should work. The stress on this adapter might break it or fail to hold your (expensive) satellite properly.
Question: I think this would work but i wanted to be sure. Would this connect the Audio-Technica AT2020 USB Mic to the On Stage MS7701 Tripod Boom Microphone Stand
Answer: Not sure. This is basically a photo tripod adapter for mic stands. This would allow you to put a camcorder or other camera on a mic stand. Or in my case, a Tascam digital audio recorder.
Question: Will this fit a Rode videomic go
Answer: I use my adapter with a Rode Videomic Pro, so it is a safe bet that it will also work with the Videomic Go. The 3/8" plastic thread on the videomics is a bit flimsy, IMO, so I was concerned that frequent attaching and detaching of my mic to this adapter might end up with the mic cold shoe or threads getting damaged. I got a Rode PG1 cold shoe handgrip and attached that (with it's metal 3/8" thread in the bottom) to this adapter on my boom pole, and now both my camera and boom pole have shoe mounts that I can attach the mic to, making it much easer to move the mic between mountings. I also end up with a good handgrip so I have 3 ways to mount my mic depending on the situation.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this hold up a Blue Yeti microphone
Answer: It shouldn't have a problem holding up any mic it's not flimsy.
Question: This says it has a nylon tip on the tightening knob so as not to damage equipment, but I don't see one in the images. Does it actually have one
Answer: I think it does. It's black, like the screw, and doesn't give way to a fingernail (in fact, I would hope not!), but it's smaller than the screw, so does look like something special on the tip. Also, the tip is concave, to match the shaft it's attached to. I don't know if that slight indent is molded in, or if it's the result of my tightening. Anyway, it attaches securely without damage.
Question: Will this fit on a bar with 1 1/2" diameter
Answer: I don't think so -- I just measured mine, and the clearance for the pole is scarcely 1.5". But as you can see in the photo, the far side of the clamp is in a V shape, and I think a 1.5" diameter pole would not be able to take advantage of the full depth of the gap. Further, the center line of the screw is only 5/8" from the hard edge, so even if you could get the pole in there, it would be off center and the screw would be pushing askew on the pole rather than the center.
Question: What is the largest diameter bar this would fit onto
Answer: I have mine on a typical mic stand with about a 3/4 inch diameter and it would go way smaller or bigger. It's got a V-shape to fit one side of the bar, and about a 1 1/2 inch thumb screw that tightens down from the other side. So very wide range of fit from about 3/8" to nearly 1 1/2".

Question: Will this work for sure sm58s
Answer: Yes. I have a sure 58and it fits fine. I like the bag a lot.
Question: How many mic cables would fit into the side area

User questions & answers

Question: Do i need an adapter for this stand? i'm using a bluebird microphone
Answer: The stand has a standard 5/8 x 27 mic thread at the end. I would think the Bluebird has the same with the shock mount. However, the Bluebird is a heavy condenser mic and the stand is rather small. It would tip over easily. I use mine to mic an amp speaker, and I can't extend the arm all the way with a SM-57. I'd recommend against this stand with that mic.
Question: how heavy is the base? The description says 2.92 lbs shipping weight which seems light. I'd be looking to hold an SM58 w/o tipping over
Answer: The weight is actually closer to 7lbs, and it will definitely hold a 58 without issue. But, this is a small boom stand meant really for kick drums, and not something that you'd usually put a 58 on. This is not a full sized mic stand.
Question: Is this item suitable for piano
Answer: No - I would use a floor stand with a full boom to go over the piano and towards the keys to isolate the microphone from the instrument vibrations. You want something adjustable to 4' tall with a boom. This stand is a short stand - OK for a bass drum, cello or maybe a saxophone.
Question: Can you use this with a blue yeti
Answer: Yes, but! The blue Yeti is a heavy mic. You'll be able to use the stand but not extend the arm very far.I picture the stand better suited for a dynamic mic in front of an amp or drum kit.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this clip designed for smaller wired microphones or for a larger wireless mic
Answer: Definitely for that standard wired mic diameters. My Samson wireless mic would not fit, I have this clip for it http://www.amazon.com/Stage-MY110-Wireless-Microphone-Clip/dp/B000AJR50Y
Question: Does it fit with a samson q2u
Answer: This clip is made to fit a standard 25mm microphone such as a Shure SM-58. If your Samson is that size, then yes, it will fit. I looked at the Samson q2u on line and it APPEARS to be the "standard" 25mm size. I would bet it will fit nicely. Try it. You'll not be out much if it doesn't quite fit... but I'm pretty sure it will. I have several of these, and they work great for my mics. Good luck! ~ V.O.R.
Question: Is this a 5/8 inch thread and will it work on the OnStage MS7701B stand
Answer: In the description of the item it says, "The MY325 dynamic shock mount clip features a 5/8 inch-27 female threaded insert in a plastic base with a 25mm opening for dynamic microphones." However I do not know about the "MS7701B stand." It fits perfectly on all my stands, purchased from different sources.
Question: Is this easy to use
Answer: Yes, mounts easily to standard mic stand threads. Provides snug hold of standard size mics (ive used SM58, AKG D5). Does seem to help stage rumble getting picked up by the mic
