User questions & answers
Question: | Will this microphone eliminate the autofocus sound of a USM lens |
Answer: | Yes being isolated from the camera it wont pick up that sound like the cameras internal speaker would. |
Question: | Will this connect to the Sony a |
Answer: | No, the Sony A6000 does not have a mic jack. You would be better off purchasing the Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone which actually provides just as good if not better recording capability. I own both and can testify to this. |
Question: | In what ways is the rode video mic pro different then the video mic pro plus? i will be using it on a mirrorless lumix dmc-g85. please help |
Answer: | The Pro Plus is a new and improved version of the popular VideoMic Pro. It looks similar from the outside (although, the pro is quite a bit smaller), but has some much-needed upgrades like automatic power switching. The Pro Plus will turn on when plugged into the camera or switch itself off when unplugged. |
Question: | What is the distance range of this mic |
Answer: | Not exactly sure what the range would be, but can stand 10-15 feet away and the audio is just fine. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does this mic record stereo sound or just mono? and does it let the onboard mic record as well or not |
Answer: | The microphone is a dual mono microphone and thus not stereo, unless you get into the very expensive stereo microphones I think you'll be pleased with the frequency response and quality. Once plugged in, the on-board microphone is cancelled out. |
Question: | Can you attach this to a boom pole |
Answer: | I believe rode sells a boom pole for this mic. You will need an extension cable as well to plug it in. |
Question: | Does this work with Canon 70d? Thanks |
Answer: | Yes it does I have the rode mic pro lyre version and it works perfectly I will say if you can afford the pro get it it cause this relies on the power of the camera so the sound isn't as good as the pro |
Question: | Should I get a used Rode Video Mic Shotgun Microphone or The rode Videomic go? assume I can't go far over 100$ in budget |
Answer: | Best qualities of the Videomic Go: Small, no battery (powered from the camera), easy to transport. Best qualities of the Rode Videomic over the Videomic Go: Battery powered (better range), high pass filter, PAD switch (for reducing sensitivity on louder recordings). Not having a battery can be nice (using the GO), but the camera you use has to be able to power over the 1/8" mic input. The high pass filter and PAD switch are nice on the Videomic, but not always necessary. If you don't think you'll need them, then the Videomic GO is the way to go. |

Question: | How long |
Answer: | Here are the specs: http://www.rodemic.com/microphones/videomic |
Question: | Will this rode mic work with my canon eos rebel t5i |
Answer: | If it has an external mic jack and a hot/cold shoe, then you're in business. And I believe your Rebel has both. It's a great mic for many purposes, just watch the fuzzy cover in the top of your frame! I had to trim the fur to keep it clear on a wide angle vlogging lens. |
Question: | Does it has a XLR cannon or a 3,5mm jack? Thanks |
Answer: | 3.5 mm jack fits easily on my D7000 Nikon. |
Question: | Can this be use on a smartphone |
Answer: | Yes, you can use this with your smartphone. I use mine with an iPhone 7plus. You need Rode's "SC4" (TRS to TRRS) adapter cable to have the correct input jack configuration-- The plug going into a video camera is different than the kind going into a phone.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L6C8PN0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1There is a really good explanation of how to use the mic with your phone. https://www.iographer.com/blogs/iographer-news/131332807-hey-my-microphone-doesnt-workEven though I use the mic on my iPhone it should also work on most (if not all) phones.I also purchased a smartphone video rig which is really useful -- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0BGUY8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

User questions & answers
Question: | What if i don't own a smart phone? what other devices is it compatible with |
Answer: | Hi Sam,The mic should work on your camera if connected properly using our compatibility guide. We have not been able to test it out on the D3300 as of yet, but if your camera supports external microphones then it should work. All the best :) |
Question: | Thanks for the reviews! Now I'm a bit confused - I'm very happy with the video that my iPhone 5s takes, but I'm just looking for a mic that will allow me to do an interview video with a person standing several feet away. Do I need to install an additional app? I assumed the mic would just help boost the quality of soun |
Answer: | 4.9ft/1.5m for the mic cable, and 9.8ft/3m for the extension cable. |
Question: | Can I use it on Android |
Answer: | Hi Mohammed, Yes it does :D |
Question: | Can this product work on a Nikon Camera |
Answer: | Yes. For Zoom H6, the mic is compatible if you plug it into the Line In jack on the X/Y capsule that sits on the top of the mic. We are not sure about other capsules, but the X/Y are the most common ones that come with those mics, so that is what the Purple Panda mic is intended for. |

User questions & answers
Question: | There is a jack in the back, but can I play normal mobile inside of the sound (the sound of songs and videos |
Answer: | You can plug a headphone into it and listen to your mobile device. You cannot hear when you are recording with the mic, to check sound levels, you have to play it back when you are done recording. |
Question: | will this work on an iphone |
Answer: | I'm not certain, I have a "7" and it works fine on my iPhone. The specific detail is the distance between the insert that goes into the headphone opening...does the 8+ have a headphone jack? If so it will likely work. |
Question: | I have a samsung galaxy s8 and i like to video loud live concerts. will this microphone get me better audio results in loud situations |
Answer: | My guess is without being able to control the gain (lowering the input level) you will likely get clipping. You need a way to monitor the levels and lower if necessary. It is though all relevant to the volume levels at the concerts and how close you are to the speaker. |
Question: | Will this work on my iphone 6 with the lifeproof case? this case needs an adapter to plug in the headphones so can't mount to case. please help |
Answer: | Get a smartphone holder mount (looks like a selfie stick holder that holds the phone) and glue a cold shoe mount to it, then you will able to attach the mic to your phone... I'm not sure about your adapter headphone problem |

The VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Suspension System from Rode is a shotgun microphone that can easily be mounted on a DSLR camera. It features a Rycote suspension system that attaches to the camera's shoe. The VideoMic is lightweight, and when mounting on a camera it does not appear in the frame. It is more effective at acoustically decoupling microphones from unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than elasticated suspensions. The lyre remains effective at a wide range of temperatures and is virtually indestructible. It will never wear out, sag, snap or require any rethreading to maintain its effectiveness.
An attached, coiled cable terminates to a 1/8" (3.5mm) mini output connection. The VideoMic features a condenser element that utilizes a standard 9 Volt battery (sold separately). The microphone will run for approximately 100 hours on a single battery.

User questions & answers
Question: | Great mic for my dslr, but I would also like to use it with a digital sound recorder for podcasts, either hand TASCAM or H4. Still a good choice |
Answer: | Absolutely. |
Question: | Is this mic compatible with the Canon Rebel EOS T5i |
Answer: | Yeah it is, I bought this setup about 5months back for my T5i and it's pretty reliable. Easy setup and the mic is very light. The sound quality is slightly better than 'good', I'm used to using XLR input, though, so that might be why I don't think it's very special. Good buy, though. Doesn't come with that exact deadcat, though, you get a cheap-looking black one.It comes with an extension for the audio jack which has saved my life when I have an attached light and need to have the mic far away from me, a good 30ft? Hard to say. Now I'm rambling, good luck with this. |
Question: | Will this work with the sony a7s dslr camera |
Answer: | If the camera has an audio input jack, it should be work. I use the boom more so than mounting to camera. |
Question: | What are the dimensions of the shipped package for this product |
Answer: | From what I recall, it was about 6in X 6in X 3ft. Could of been 8in instead of the 6in. |

RODE VideoMic
The RODE VideoMic is a professional grade 1/2 inch condenser shotgun microphone designed for use with consumer video cameras and personal audio recorders. The VideoMic CPK Package includes the VideoMic along with various accessories: Windshield, Boom Pole, Microphone screw adaptor, and 25 feet. Headphone extension cable.
The integrated Rycote Lyre based shock mounting system isolates the VideoMic capsule and electronics from its all-metal shoe mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre provides high quality acoustic suspension and will never wear out, sag or snap.
Its standard sized shoe mount also includes a 3/8 inch thread in the base for easy mounting on a boom pole or stand. By employing a super-cardioid polar pattern, the VideoMic becomes highly directional, focusing on the subject in front of the camera, and minimizing any surrounding sounds.
In addition to the microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response, a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded. A -10dB and -20dB level attenuation (or PAD), selectable from inside the battery compartment, allows recording of loud sound sources, such as live music or motorsport.
