6 best multitrack recording usb mixer

A multitrack recording USB mixer is a versatile audio mixing console that combines the functionality of a traditional mixer with the capability to record multiple audio tracks directly to a computer via a USB connection. These mixers are commonly used in music production, live sound reinforcement, and home recording studios. Here's what you should know about them:

  1. Audio Mixing: Multitrack USB mixers are equipped with multiple input channels, each of which can accept audio signals from various sources, such as microphones, instruments, or line-level devices like CD players.

  2. Multitrack Recording: The standout feature of these mixers is their ability to record each input channel as a separate track on a computer. This allows for individual track editing and processing during post-production.

  3. USB Connectivity: The USB connection is used to transmit the individual audio channels to a computer, where they can be recorded and edited using digital audio workstation (DAW) software.

  4. Analog vs. Digital Mixers: Multitrack USB mixers can be either analog or digital. Analog mixers convert the analog audio signals to digital before sending them to the computer. Digital mixers handle the audio in the digital domain from the start.

  5. Channel Count: The number of input channels on these mixers can vary, with some models offering 8, 16, 24, or more channels. The choice of channel count depends on your recording and mixing needs.

  6. Built-in Effects: Many multitrack USB mixers include built-in effects processors for adding reverb, delay, compression, and other effects to the audio. This can be particularly useful for live sound and quick processing during recording.

  7. Control Surface: These mixers often double as a control surface for your DAW, allowing you to control recording and mixing functions directly from the mixer.

  8. Phantom Power: XLR inputs typically offer phantom power, which is essential for condenser microphones that require it.

  9. EQ and Preamps: These mixers come with EQ controls and preamps to shape the sound of individual channels.

  10. Monitoring Options: They provide headphone outputs and monitor outputs for real-time audio monitoring during recording and playback.

  11. Flexibility: Multitrack USB mixers are suitable for both live sound applications, where they can serve as a front-of-house mixer, and studio recording, thanks to their ability to record multiple tracks simultaneously.

  12. Price Range: The price of these mixers varies widely, depending on the brand, channel count, features, and build quality. Entry-level models are affordable, while high-end options can be quite expensive.

  13. Compatibility: Ensure that the mixer is compatible with your computer's operating system and DAW software.

Multitrack recording USB mixers are valuable tools for musicians, producers, and audio engineers looking to capture and edit multiple audio sources with ease. They offer a practical solution for both live performance and studio recording by combining the capabilities of a mixer and a digital audio interface in one unit.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the L12 work with Cubase 10 recording on a 21 inch Mac
Answer: This is a sound interface. All you need is sound drivers. There is no supplemental software.
Question: Can the L-12 record a live stereo mix, or only multitrack
Answer: What you can't do is record the next track at 24-bit/96kHz. That is you can record up to 12 tracks all at once at 24-bit/96kHz but then if you wanted to add another track to it while monitoring the first recording it has to be at 46kHz which is sub CD quality.
Question: Can I save EQ’s and recall them from the save if they have been changed
Answer: Yes! The EQ settings will be saved to your scene.
Question: Are the faders motorized
Answer: No the faders are not motorized. When you switch between fader modes and scenes, LEDs indicate what the fader settings were last set on in the mode/scene you switch to. You move the fader manually to the lit setting if you want it there or want to change it.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it have echo and can be used for karaoke
Answer: Yes it does. You just need to activate whichever channel needs it.
Question: How does the usb out select section work? What are the routing paths possible? (The user 'manual' does not provide much informatiom
Answer: Hi James! If you desire a nice headphone amplifier and intend to send analog audio (microphone) into to the microphone port of the MixPre-3 II, that would work nicely! My only concern is how this audio then gets to the Internet. The MixPre-3 II is supported as a computer audio interface, but I am not sure how you will be sending audio from the MixPre-3 II to the world.
Question: Does it support multitrack recording with a daw? if so, how many tracks can be recorded simultaneously via usb using a daw
Answer: Hi, The Mixpre3 II is manufactured in Taiwan, while the Mixpre 6 II and Mixpre-10 II are assembled in the U.S.A. Thank you, Sound Devices
Question: Is the USB an output to the computer
Answer: I also had the CD and the fixed memory versions. I can tell you that the GB-10 has all the same features plus recording. Buy it, you wont be sorry
