14 best keyboard amplifiers

Keyboard amplifiers are specialized amplification systems designed to enhance the sound of electronic keyboards and synthesizers in various musical settings, including live performances, studio recordings, and practice sessions. These amplifiers play a crucial role in the world of music, particularly for keyboardists and electronic musicians who rely on their instruments for a wide range of sounds and effects. Here are some key points about keyboard amplifiers:

  1. Purpose: Keyboard amplifiers are specifically engineered to reproduce the rich and diverse sounds produced by electronic keyboards, synthesizers, digital pianos, and other similar instruments. They are optimized to handle the wide frequency range and tonal nuances of these instruments.

  2. Sound Quality: Keyboard amplifiers are designed to provide clear and accurate sound reproduction. They typically feature flat frequency responses, ensuring that the amplified sound maintains the integrity of the original keyboard tones without coloration or distortion.

  3. Power and Size: Keyboard amplifiers come in various power ratings and sizes to accommodate different performance venues and setups. Smaller amps are suitable for practice and intimate settings, while larger, more powerful amps are used for live concerts and events.

  4. Input Options: Keyboard amplifiers typically offer multiple input channels to accommodate various audio sources. This allows musicians to connect multiple keyboards or other instruments, microphones, and even playback devices like laptops or drum machines.

  5. Built-in Effects: Some keyboard amplifiers come equipped with built-in effects such as reverb, chorus, and equalization. These effects can enhance the sound and provide greater versatility for musicians.

  6. Portability: Many keyboard amplifiers are designed with portability in mind, featuring lightweight construction, handles, and sometimes even wheels for ease of transportation. This is especially important for gigging musicians.

  7. Stage Monitoring: Keyboard amplifiers can serve as stage monitors, allowing the keyboardist to hear their own performance clearly in a live setting. They can also be used as part of a larger PA (Public Address) system to project the keyboard sound to the audience.

  8. Versatility: While keyboard amplifiers are primarily used for electronic keyboards, they are versatile and can also be used with other instruments, such as electric guitars and electronic drums, making them a valuable addition to a musician's gear collection.

  9. Brand and Models: Various manufacturers produce keyboard amplifiers, with popular brands including Roland, Yamaha, Korg, and Behringer, among others. Specific models vary in terms of features, power, and price range.

  10. Maintenance: Like all musical equipment, keyboard amplifiers require regular maintenance, such as cleaning, checking for loose connections, and occasional servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

In summary, keyboard amplifiers are essential tools for keyboardists and electronic musicians, allowing them to amplify and shape the sound of their instruments in different musical contexts, from small practice sessions to large live performances. These amplifiers are designed to faithfully reproduce the nuances of electronic keyboards and provide the necessary flexibility and sound quality required by musicians.

User questions & answers

Question: What kind of power supply does this use? Can I plug into the wall or does it take batteries? I'm not very familiar with amplifiers, thanks
Answer: Documentation does not say, not on the box either. Coverage area indicates it is 2.4. Works very well I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck.
Question: Would this be good for Karaoke (I have a Karaoke Mixer) or for connecting to a Projector to boost the sound
Answer: It depends on the dealer's policy.
Question: Does it come with a wire
Answer: Just received the DWS-3 system today on recommendations from numerous reviews and forums. Plugged it in using my Warwick Thumb 5-string and GK mb500. No discernible difference from using a standard cable. Handled the low B string just fine. I’m confident it will do fine at gig this weekend with GK+SWR Goliath III cab.
Question: Can this amp used for violin? Does it has speakers
Answer: As it is I found that mine did also , after research for a few minutes I found that it was my input jack on the guitar . Don’t know if this helps but I cleaned mine with a burst of compressed air and it helped but ultimately I changed the jack out for a new one and I now have crisp and clear sound .

The latest generation carries on the time-honored KC benchmark of quality while offering new enhancements tuned for the needs of today’s working musicians. With a KC amp by your side, you’re in complete control of your stage rig, so you’ll always sound great and play your best. And that’s worth it every time. Packed with many new design features, the KC-600 updates the previous-generation KC-550, Roland’s top-selling keyboard amp. The power has been increased to 200 watts, and the two-way speaker system features a newly designed 15-inch custom woofer for improved sound quality. In addition, the power section has been completely redesigned for better stability, enhanced bass reproduction, and reduced weight. With the KC-600’s built-in mixer, you’re able to connect a variety of stereo keyboards and instruments, plus an XLR vocal mic. And via the Stereo Link function, you can easily chain a second KC-600 for more inputs and true stereo amplification on stage.

  • Custom two-way speaker system with newly developed 15-inch woofer and horn tweeter

  • Output Select function on Channel 4 for monitoring click and guide tracks
  • XLR mic input, XLR and ¼-inch line outputs, headphones output, and sub output

User questions & answers

Question: Would this amp power external stereo speakers
Answer: you can use a monitor with it and a sub woofer, but I have never tried using external passive speakers.
Question: How is the sound at low volume? does it have wheels
Answer: Hello Rich, No wheels, lies flat on the floor. Quite heavy, so it stays in my basement music room. I think it sounds good at low volume, but that is rather subjective. Also, I was originally playing through a Fender Princeton Chorus guitar amp, which really isn't made for keyboards. By the way, my keyboard is a Roland Juno-88. I hope this helps.
Question: Can this handle a bass with a low b string
Answer: I am using it with a Hammond SK2 keyboard. When I hit the lower keys it plays loud enough for our bass player to turn around and look so depending on how loud you play, I'm guessing it would do the job
Question: Is there an insert hole on the bottom of the amp for a pole mount stand? in particular, is this speaker compatible with roland's st-a95 amp stand
Answer: I don't know about Roland's stands but there is no hole in the bottom. This is a heavy amp so I wouldn't do that. It's a great keyboard amp.

User questions & answers

Question: Anything of same quality but smaller in size? Bought one without realizing the size and weight. Looking for something for practice and jamup with
Answer: Yes, you can use a mic with this amp.
Question: How is the driver improved? is it a servo speaker? im interested in response and snr
Answer: Yes, the adapter has about a 4-6 foot long AC power plug, and about 10 feet of low voltage DC cable to the speaker cabinet. I bought two matching units, one for each channel of my Nord Grand piano. I love them! At about 25% power to the amps, gain way down on the Nord, it sounds so much like a big grand harp/string piano. Can shut my eyes and am sitting behind my mother's Kimball from my childhood... lots of room/power left to play to a bigger venue also.
Question: Is this a Stereo amp
Answer: The AMP has three pre-amps, gains and input jacks, however it only has one power amp/master output, so it would "squish" Stereo into mono. I bought two of these amps and use them with a Nord Stage Grand, one left, one right channel. At approximately 25% of full power with the two amps, it is at least as loud as an acoustic string/harp Grand like a Kimball or White. If you have a stereo instrument, like a piano, best to get two amps and use them as a pair if you want the spacial quality of stereo, like in acoustic performance settings. If you are only looking for a monitor amp and intend to feed into a large PA, then one might work fine.
Question: Is the 100W amp loud enough for live rock-n-roll (keys, guitar, bass, drums, vox) in small to medium sized clubs
Answer: Weighs around 50LB Approx 2' X 2' X 1.5' makes it easy to travel with.

User questions & answers

Question: what cable do i need
Answer: There are better choices for that -- you want speakers with a built-in mic preamp, and probably higher wattage amplifiers. You may also want folding speaker tripods. I suggest you puchase speakers designed for this, with a tripod screw hole on the bottom, and XLR mic inputs. For example, Bose EONS sound amazing for music as well. You may also wish to purchase a good wireless mic. Think of it as a system. The size of the room and the audience determine the required size and power of speakers.
Question: Does the power cord fit into the American outlet
Answer: son dos monitores, uno principal y el otro esclavo. Saludos.
Question: Does it come with the cable needed to connect to electronic drums
Answer: Take a piece of t-shirt and bring it back and forth between your face and the monitors.. you will hear that even something like a tshirt of pantyhose, has a considerable effect on the sound projection. Also, having grills on the speaker looks cheap imo..
Question: The power cord plug seems not to be the American standard on the product photo, is it true or it does have the American version
Answer: It comes with the speaker cable to connect the two speakers, a male 3.5 mm plug to male 3.5 mm plug, and a male 3.5mm plug to right and left RCA cable. We plugged a iPhone into them and played stereo music. Very Nice!

Whether warming up backstage on the road, at practice, or in your bedroom, the Crush Mini is the perfect companion. The redesigned control panel gives you full tonal control with gain, shape and volume. Using the preamp stage of the amp, you can plug directly into an external speaker cabinet to open up even more tonal capabilities. The Crush Mini features a built-in tuner, as well as a headphone output that cuts the speaker for silent practice. The AUX IN makes playing along to your favourite songs is a breeze!Versatile, Simple ControlsThe Crush Mini uses three controls: volume, shape and gain. User questions & answers

Question: Is it worth the extra $300 to get the Rumble 500 head and the 410 and 115 cab, rather than the combo + the 115 extension
Answer: I have the 210 combo and 115 extension. The 115 comes with wheels and I put the 210 on a rock and roller cart. Extremely portable and very loud, it will get louder than your ears can stand. I would say the combo and 115 are plenty. Not worth getting the head and 410, just a waste of money and more weight to carry around.
Question: As a stand alone unit, are the 210's pushing 500 watts, or do you need to attach another cabinet at lower ohms to get your 500 watts
Answer: As a standalone unit the two 10 inch speakers are pushing 350 Watts at 8 ohms (Internal). You need to attach an external 8 ohm speaker cabinet to get 500 Watts. Attaching the external 8 ohm speaker cabinet brings the total impedance down to 4 ohms and that is when you get the maximum 500 Watts.
Question: I'm helping a friend pick out a bass & amp for her son. Would this amp be loud enough for a small entry-level garage band
Answer: I remember way back when I was in my first band. I had an ampeg B-15 and it was woefully underpowered. All I got out of it was a ton of distortion. It can be very frustrating for a new player to have to deal with poor sound. I’ve known guys who have given up playing because of the frustration of dealing with noise instead of music. I would use a 25w amp for practicing by myself but for a garage band I would go with a minimum of 100w.
Question: is this amp usable in new zealand
Answer: I turned mine upside down and it still worked so I suppose it will be OK down there. (On mine, input power is marked 100-120V @ 50-60 HZ, 70W.)

User questions & answers

Question: can you use sep. effects petals, i have a volcal harminizer effects petal, can that be hooked up to my mic
Answer: Yes! It gives a clean sound, easy to carry, and loud enough for medium size places. I used these for church and they were perfect.
Question: Can I use it on 220V
Answer: 600 watts !!! No way, try to compare this with another amp such as Roland keyboard amp.I own a Behringer K1800FX, rated at 180 watts, same look and physical size as this one and I would say it delivers about 80 watts at most. This kind of output rating gives me lot of doubts about the manufaturers of lower quality brands (such as Behringer, Pyle, etc...). ROLAND, FENDER don't do that.
Question: Can I use this as a vocal amplifier/PA
Answer: I know this is an old question but my answer will apply to just about any amp with a stereo link. A stereo link allows you to connect another amp. The output sends the signal to another amp and the input receives the signal from another amp. Adding another KXD12 using the stereo link would give you a total of 8 channels to work with. I can also say that this will also function as a built in effects loop because I have used it that way.
Question: Is this amp mainly used for keyboards or acoustic guitars? What is it best suited for
Answer: Yes, this amp sounds nice for that. However, if you are looking for a LOUD amp this one might not be enough. I recommend you use a preamp or boost your output signal to the KXD12 for best results. It also works good when connected to a PA system. On a side note, I have had intermittent issues with the built in effects unit and the eq sliders are a bit delicate. Overall, for the money I paid, I’ve been happy with the KXD12.
