13 best bass speaker for bass guitar

A bass speaker, specifically designed for bass guitars, is a crucial component in a bass guitar amplifier or speaker cabinet. These speakers are engineered to reproduce the low-frequency range produced by bass guitars accurately and efficiently. Here's what you need to know about bass speakers for bass guitars:

  1. Size and Configuration:

    • Bass guitar speakers come in various sizes, with 10-inch and 12-inch speakers being common choices.Larger 15-inch and 18-inch speakers are also used for their enhanced low-frequency response.
    • Some bass cabinets have multiple speakers in different configurations, such as 2x10, 4x10, or 1x15, to achieve specific tonal characteristics and volume levels.
  2. Cone Material:

    • The speaker's cone material plays a crucial role in determining its tone. Common materials include paper, aluminum, and various composites.
    • Different materials can produce varying levels of warmth, clarity, and punch in the bass guitar's sound.
  3. Power Handling:

    • The power handling capacity of a bass speaker is an important consideration. It indicates how much wattage the speaker can handle without distortion or damage.
    • Bass speakers often have higher power handling capabilities than regular guitar speakers due to the demands of reproducing lower frequencies.
  4. Impedance:

    • Bass speakers are available in different impedance ratings, such as 4 ohms, 8 ohms, or 16 ohms. It's important to match the speaker's impedance with the amplifier or cabinet to ensure proper functionality.
  5. Frequency Response:

    • Bass speakers are designed to accurately reproduce the low frequencies produced by bass guitars, typically ranging from 20 Hz to 500 Hz or more.
    • The speaker's frequency response curve may be tailored to emphasize specific bass frequencies or provide a more balanced response.
  6. Sensitivity:

    • Speaker sensitivity refers to how efficiently the speaker converts input power into sound output. A higher sensitivity rating means the speaker can produce more sound with less power.
  7. Speaker Cabinet Design:

    • The design of the speaker cabinet, including its size, shape, and porting, can significantly impact the overall sound produced. Different cabinet designs can emphasize certain tonal characteristics.
  8. Brand and Model Variety:

    • Many reputable brands produce high-quality bass speakers, including brands like Eminence, Celestion, Ampeg, and more. The choice of speaker can greatly affect the overall sound of your bass rig.
  9. Usage Scenario:

    • Bass speakers are used in various live sound and studio settings, including stage monitors, bass amplifier cabinets, and recording environments.
    • The choice of speaker and cabinet configuration depends on the specific requirements of the bassist and the musical genre.
  10. Maintenance:

    • Proper care and maintenance, such as avoiding overloading the speaker with excessive power and keeping it free from moisture and physical damage, can extend the lifespan of a bass speaker.

Selecting the right bass speaker for your bass guitar setup is essential for achieving the desired tone and performance. Consider factors like speaker size, power handling, and tonal characteristics to find the best fit for your musical preferences and requirements.

User questions & answers

Question: What kind of power supply does this use? Can I plug into the wall or does it take batteries? I'm not very familiar with amplifiers, thanks
Answer: Documentation does not say, not on the box either. Coverage area indicates it is 2.4. Works very well I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck.
Question: Would this be good for Karaoke (I have a Karaoke Mixer) or for connecting to a Projector to boost the sound
Answer: It depends on the dealer's policy.
Question: Does it come with a wire
Answer: Just received the DWS-3 system today on recommendations from numerous reviews and forums. Plugged it in using my Warwick Thumb 5-string and GK mb500. No discernible difference from using a standard cable. Handled the low B string just fine. I’m confident it will do fine at gig this weekend with GK+SWR Goliath III cab.
Question: Can this amp used for violin? Does it has speakers
Answer: As it is I found that mine did also , after research for a few minutes I found that it was my input jack on the guitar . Don’t know if this helps but I cleaned mine with a burst of compressed air and it helped but ultimately I changed the jack out for a new one and I now have crisp and clear sound .

User questions & answers

Question: Is it worth the extra $300 to get the Rumble 500 head and the 410 and 115 cab, rather than the combo + the 115 extension
Answer: I have the 210 combo and 115 extension. The 115 comes with wheels and I put the 210 on a rock and roller cart. Extremely portable and very loud, it will get louder than your ears can stand. I would say the combo and 115 are plenty. Not worth getting the head and 410, just a waste of money and more weight to carry around.
Question: As a stand alone unit, are the 210's pushing 500 watts, or do you need to attach another cabinet at lower ohms to get your 500 watts
Answer: As a standalone unit the two 10 inch speakers are pushing 350 Watts at 8 ohms (Internal). You need to attach an external 8 ohm speaker cabinet to get 500 Watts. Attaching the external 8 ohm speaker cabinet brings the total impedance down to 4 ohms and that is when you get the maximum 500 Watts.
Question: I'm helping a friend pick out a bass & amp for her son. Would this amp be loud enough for a small entry-level garage band
Answer: I remember way back when I was in my first band. I had an ampeg B-15 and it was woefully underpowered. All I got out of it was a ton of distortion. It can be very frustrating for a new player to have to deal with poor sound. I’ve known guys who have given up playing because of the frustration of dealing with noise instead of music. I would use a 25w amp for practicing by myself but for a garage band I would go with a minimum of 100w.
Question: is this amp usable in new zealand
Answer: I turned mine upside down and it still worked so I suppose it will be OK down there. (On mine, input power is marked 100-120V @ 50-60 HZ, 70W.)

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have an inbuilt battery that it can use if I want to play where there is no power source
Answer: No it has only the power cord.
Question: Purchased one month ago. All I get is static..... help? What’s the warranty on this
Answer: Ours is working fine, ask to return to Amazon for refund or replacement
Question: This keeps coming up as a bass amp. Is it ok to use with my bass guitar
Answer: playing bass at lower volumes would probably be ok. cranking it up would shred it. great little guitar amp though.
Question: anyone else experiencing a very loud buzzzz when you plug in
Answer: You ALWAYS GET BUZZ if you plug in after turning on any amp. There is an interval when you insert the plug that one circuit—the one to ground—isn’t connected. It’s momentary. You should ALWAYS PLUG IN BEFORE turning the amp on. Now, if it continues to buzz after the cable is fully plugged in, try another cable. If the buzzing stops, that first cable has a broken connection on the ground side. This is generally caused by the leads inside the plug breaking off where they’re soldered. Unscrew the plug at both ends and check for loose, unattached wires. If you find one, re-solder it. If no broken connections are found, the break is somewhere inside the cable. Unsolder and keep the plugs and toss the cable. If after inserting a second cable, the buzzing continues, the problem is inside the amp circuitry. Return it, or toss it and get a better one next time.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use my acoustic I rig mic with this? With the headphone type plug
Answer: there is an AUX IN jack that takes a 3.5mm plug. Yes.
Question: Will this sound good if I’m Playin piano using my midi keyboard
Answer: Depends on how good your speakers are in your keyboard if your keyboard has stereo speakers they're probably going to sound better but as far as a little amp goes it's adequate
Question: what kind of cable do I need to connect to my Uke
Answer: Dear JOYO fan or user, it required a normal audio cable connect to Uke. thanks for your question.
Question: Can a microphone be plugged into this amplifier
Answer: Yes but you'll want to be aware that the amp takes a 1/4" plug, so you might need a converter. I also would be cautious if the mic requires phantom power. The amp doesnt provide it, so you'll need to get it elsewhere. If you have a mic preamp, then you could also plug the mic into that and the preamp into the aux jack, which would allow you to still be able to plug a guitar into the 1/4" jack. However be aware that the aux jack doesnt go through the volume/tone/gain, so you'll need to provide that elsewhere (which is why a preamp would be helpful)

User questions & answers

Question: I have a 200w 4ohm bass head. Will this cabinet, by itself be able to cut through a bands mix? (guitarist and drummer
Answer: Yes, it should. I’ve used this cabinet as an add on to a rig for larger gigs and venues, and for smaller gigs it’s enough to cut through. It’s a classic sound similar to an Ampeg 210 cabinet without a high frequency horn, but there is still articulation.
Question: If I got two of these 2x10 cabs, what amp heads could drive that
Answer: I would say anything from 100 watts to 600 watts. I have run mine with a Gallien Kruger 700RB and also a Hartke 350. They can handle a high powered head, but I would recommend you start out at very low volume and not to blow them out. With my GK, I am now running a Seimic 4x10, and in a club setting, rarely have I had it over a 2 on the master volume. Tone is killer. Have also used my 2x10 with a 15" in another cab and sounded great that way too. One advantage to having a pair of 2x10's is the weight and ease of moving it. My 4x10 is heavy in comparison, but they sound pretty much the same. What amp head are you considering?
Question: is this really 4 ohms? I did some research on another site and it said it was 8 ohms...i am confused i dont want to buy the wrong thing
Answer: ou can order it either 4 0r 8 ohms if I remember correctly. Mine is 4 ohms and very impressive especially for the $$.
Question: I have a bass guitar amp head for this already, but whats a good little pre-amp/reciever to push this little guy with good sound/bass for DJing
Answer: Hi Kam,Thanks for your continued interest in Seismic Audio! Any combination of our mixer/power amps will work for this. They can be found here:http://www.seismicaudiospeakers.com/Amplifiers-s/221.htmConsidering this is a bass guitar cabinet, you won't get the same result as if you ran your audio through a full range speaker with some subs. That would be the ideal setup for a DJ type application. Let me know if your have any questions. Thanks,Rusty

Eminence Legend CA154 15in 300W 4 Ohms

  • Pro sound 15" woofer for use in bass guitar cabinets or in a PA cabinet
  • A 4 ohm driver with high SPL
  • Easily handles 600W and frequencies from a low 45 Hz to 3 kHz

User questions & answers

Question: Have a tube ampwith 12in 4ohm if i changes that out with the 15in here what would be the result
Answer: well depends on the cab as well but it should work fine and give the tone people love from this driver
Question: Would this be a good choice as a replacement for a Peavey combo
Answer: as long as it is 4ohm to the connector from the amp internally (and it should be 4ohm on a single 15" combo), then I would think it would work great. Mine went into a Peavey TNT 130 (400 watt) combo amp from the 80's, and it was a fantastic replacement.
Question: Have a tube ampwith 12in 4ohm if i changes that out with the 15in here what would be the result
Answer: You need to compare it to the power rating of the existing speaker and amp. If the amp is rated at 50 watts and the 12 inch speaker at say 100, then you will not get quite the mid to high end clarity with this 15 inch, 300 watt speaker. But if the amp is rated at say 100 watts and the 12 inch at 200 watts (or thereabouts) then you will only loose some of the very high end response. (If it's a bass rig you're on about, then you won't care about the very high end loss.)
Question: What is the big difference between a 4 ohm speaker and an 8 ohm speaker
Answer: It has to do with an amplifiers ability to source current to a load. With all things equal, a 4 ohm speaker requires twice the current draw than a similar 8 ohm version.

Valeton Bass Guitar Amplifier Head TAR-20B Amp Pedal Studio Desktop with CAB SIM

Valeton

Product description

Bass Practice Amp

TAR-20B is a bass amp, but way more than just a practice amp. You might let the size fool you. But trust me this little fella is legit. It has 20w of pure analog power. The range of EQ is wide enough for you to shape your bass tone to anything you like, from Motown era vintage p-bass low mid thing to modern day super ultra fat low-end stuff. It does it all!

A Guitar Hack!

As you know, many bass amps were originally designed for the bass and then recognized as a guitar thing. Think about Bassman. TAR-20B is no stranger to that. I tried my Strat on it one time. It blew my mind. I mentioned the EQ range above, but haven't said anything about the GAIN. The GAIN circuit is wired to emulate the classic SVT style tone. • Recommended for pro audio as a woofer in sealed and vented enclosures
  • Features optimized frequency response and power handling
  • Ideal for 2/3-way speaker systems, guitar/bass/keyboard combo amps, and monitors

User questions & answers

Question: Are these the best match for my situation? I have three way sealed tower speakers with passive radiators and I want to replace the 12 inch drivers
Answer: I wouldn't use them in that application. They're more suitable for a guitar or bass amp.
Question: Got my Beta 15A speakers but there's no polarity indicated on the hookup tabs. Can you advise
Answer: I've since sold that amp but I would recommend you look up some closeup installation photos online to determine the hot (positive) lug.
Question: I've tried these speakers through combo bass amp I intended and through a separate head, and they always buzz like crazy. Are these really for bass
Answer: These are officially a loudspeaker, ideally for PA reinforcement. I have managed to get a good sound from them for bass, though there is a lot that goes into choosing specific speakers for your specific cab. Putting two of these in a guitar 2x12 cab will most likely not produce an incredible bass sound.
Question: are the betas louder than the alphas
Answer: YES

About the Founder

In 1966, Bob Gault founded what was to become the world’s largest loudspeaker manufacturing company after working as an engineer for Magnavox and CTS (Chicago Telephone Supply). Ironically, Gault started Eminence hoping to maintain three 18" speakers per day, based on a commitment from Ampeg’s Everett Hull. Under the leadership of Gault and most recently his son, Rob, the company’s capacity grew to over 10,000 speakers per day, employing over 240 people by 1997.

Gault was the president of Eminence from the company’s inception until 1992. He officially retired in 1993, but continued to make valuable contributions to the company. Gault passed away on October 4, 2002. He is greatly missed by his family, the music industry, and the Eminence community.

Eminence Legend BP 102-4 10in 200W 4 Ohms

  • Ideal for pro audio and bass guitar applications as a mid-range speaker
  • Useful in both sealed or vented enclosures
  • Works well in single or multi driver designs
  • 200W 4 Ohms

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a good replacement for a speaker in a trace Elliot 4 10 cabinet
Answer: Be sure to measure the cutout width in your cab. I have a 2X10 trace elliot and I could NOT fit these speakers into it. It originally had Celestions which are 1/8" smaller than the Eminance; 229mm compared to 233mm. I know it doesn't look like much but it won't seat properly. I went to Celestion pulse 10's.
Question: Will this work as a replacement woofer in an octasound sp520a box
Answer: that box seem more like it's using a beta 10A looking at the specs. This bp102 will have more bass potential but sacrifice midrange efficiency and not work as well with the internal crossover. Get the Eminence Beta 10A and be sure to select SpeakerAddict as the supplier ;-)
Question: Would i be able to use this as a replacement speaker for a fender rumble 25? the stock speaker is 8” but there’s enough room to cut a 10” hole
Answer: Yes if your good at that. The speaker will take I believe 300 watts at 8 ohms so the small amp in the unit will drive it. Bear in mind that Fender is only 25 watts so not a lot of volume but good for practice.
Question: Will this speaker work well in a sealed fender bassman 4x10 cab
Answer: I’m using it for upright in a ported enclosure as a single speaker powered by a portaflex 350 head. Sounds great- it should work well in a sealed cab.
