User questions & answers
Question: | we have a selmer wood clarinet. what is an estimate price to replace pads, cork, etc.? Its at least 10 years old and in case always |
Answer: | Hello. I am probably not the best person to ask because for me to replace and fix those things, I can somewhat do it cheap because I am not a retail music store. You will want to go to your local music shop that has repair technicians. Their costs are going to be higher because of them having a brick and mortar and employees. I have seen overhauls go for well over $100. It just depends. I hope this info helps. |
Question: | The ad says wood grained resonate - so is it plastic or wood |
Answer: | Definitely plastic. Selmer created the misleading term "resonite" so they don't have to admit it's made of plastic. But don't reject it automatically, since some plastic clarinets don't sound all that bad, and have the advantage of being immune to moisture, so the barrel won't crack or warp or anything like that. For a beginner, a well-made plastic clarinet is still *not* a toy, although at the intermediate level or above, all players of course move up to a wooden instrument. Some experts feel the reed and mouthpiece contribute the most to the overall sound, so if you're on a budget, they may recommend you upgrade a plastic-bodied clarinet with a quality wooden mouthpiece. That upgrade will get you some of the sound quality of a more expensive instrument, until you can afford better. |
Question: | is this a simba or selmer clarinet |
Answer: | lol, answer #3-- Selmer Signet Special was my first wooden clarinet. Selmer 100 didn't have as good reviews when I investigated. |

The model CL300 features a uniquely small bore (.573") with a higher degree of taper, producing a warm, centered clarinet sound with balanced blowing resistance. Only the CL300 features a hand-reamed bore like that found on grenadilla wood clarinets for the highest degree of consistent quality. Undercut tone holes allow for an even, accurage scale and lend expression. The fatter barrel design of the CL300 stabilizes throat tones for a more homogenous sound over the full range of the instrument. Students benefit from the G.M. hard rubber mouthpiece with hand-adjusted baffle and rails.

In 1885 Henri Selmer Paris began its business designing and manufacturing Bb Clarinet Mouthpieces. After an intense Research and Development effort, Henri Selmer Paris is completely renewing its mouthpiece range for clarinet, introducing two new models adapted to the esthetic of today's clarinetists. The new throat design brings greater focus to the air flow, allowing greater density of sound and an expansion of the array of timbres. All while preserving the facility of sound emission, the Concept's larger opening favors a breadth of sound throughout the registers, allowing a greater sound projection.
