12 best alto saxophone prices

Alto saxophone prices can vary widely based on factors like the brand, quality, materials, and accessories included. Here's an overview of what you can expect when it comes to the prices of alto saxophones:

  1. Student Models: Entry-level or student alto saxophones are generally the most affordable. They are designed for beginners and often made of durable materials to withstand the rigors of learning to play. Prices for student models can range from $300 to $1,000.

  2. Intermediate Models: Intermediate saxophones are a step up in terms of quality and are suitable for players who have advanced beyond the beginner stage. These instruments are often made of better materials and have improved craftsmanship. Prices for intermediate alto saxophones typically range from $1,000 to $2,500.

  3. Professional Models: Professional alto saxophones are designed for experienced and advanced players who require the highest quality and performance. They are often handcrafted and made from premium materials. Prices for professional models can range from $2,500 to $8,000 or more, depending on the brand and features.

  4. Vintage Saxophones: Vintage alto saxophones, especially those from reputable brands and in good condition, can be highly sought after by collectors and professional players. The price for vintage saxophones can vary significantly based on factors like age, rarity, and condition. Prices may range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand.

  5. Brand and Reputation: Well-known and established saxophone brands, such as Yamaha, Selmer, and Yanagisawa, tend to have higher price tags due to their reputation for quality and performance.

  6. Materials: Some alto saxophones are made from different materials, like brass, bronze, or silver. Instruments made from more expensive materials are likely to have higher prices.

  7. Accessories: The price of an alto saxophone may include or exclude accessories such as a mouthpiece, ligature, reeds, and a case.Be sure to consider the cost of necessary accessories when evaluating the overall value of a saxophone.

  8. Condition: If you're considering a used or pre-owned alto saxophone, the price will depend on the age, condition, and brand of the instrument. Used saxophones can be significantly more affordable than new ones.

  9. Additional Features: Some alto saxophones come with additional features like high F# key, adjustable key mechanisms, and custom engraving. These features can impact the price.

  10. Warranty and Support: The level of warranty and customer support offered by the manufacturer or retailer can also affect the price.

It's important to consider your skill level, playing goals, and budget when choosing an alto saxophone. While it may be tempting to opt for the most expensive professional model, a student or intermediate saxophone might be more suitable for beginners and casual players. Always try out different saxophones and consult with a music store professional or teacher to find the best instrument for your needs and budget.

User questions & answers

Question: Notes from low D and down are a half step/three quarters step sharp. Is this a design issue? Trying to troubleshoot
Answer: As with all saxophones, you will use your embouchure to bring the pitch up or down in the highest and lowest registers. In the highest you may want to tighten your embouchure and in the lowest register, like below D, you may want to relax your embouchure. The embouchure is the way the muscles form the mouth around the mouthpiece and reed and is a very important for correct intonation. The middle register should play in tune without the need for mouth adjustment. If that does not help or solve the problem please let me know and we can try something else. As will all Herche instruments, your satisfaction is guaranteed.
Question: Does the sax have a F sharp key
Answer: Yes, it has the high F# Key.
Question: what is the weight of the sax itself? 8.6lbs seems heavy compared to other saxophones. Does the 8.6lbs include the weight of the case also
Answer: The saxophone itself weighs 5.4 lbs. 8.6lbs includes the case and shipping box.
Question: what brand of mouthpiece does it come with..if its a daddario im in for sure
Answer: It comes with a Herche mouthpiece. You can choose to upgrade the mouthpiece to a daddario.

Question: Does this fit the yahmaha alto
Answer: I'm not sure. We have a vintage alto sax that's slightly larger than what this case is designed for. It doesn't exactly fit, but we're able to close and latch the case without forcing it. My daughter loves it. It's so lightweight in comparison to the original 1960's super heavy case we have.

User questions & answers

Question: This case does not have a shoulder strap, correct
Answer: It has backpack straps. It doesn't have a shoulder strap but you can use on of the backpack straps over your shoulder.
Question: Can u send me a pic of the straps
Answer: I'm trying to add the straps to the main photos but am not seeing an option to add it here. They are black straps that are 1 1/2" wide and when stretched out it starts at around 25" long. It's expandable to much longer or even a bit shorter. So sorry I couldn't just attach the photo to this answer.
Question: Do you sell the back straps separately
Answer: The back straps come with the case you don't need to buy additional straps. They hook on to the case to make it just like a backpack for school.
Question: Can this be carried on the back
Answer: Yes. There are 2 'backpack' straps that a specifically designed for carrying on your back.

About Kaces:

Kaces is a global supplier of gig bags, cases, and music accessories for musicians of all genres. Early in his career, Kaces founder Alan Poster watched working musicians and roadies struggle with archaic plywood travel cases, that were heavy, bulky and in constant need of repair. He saw the need for cases crafted from more versatile materials, to be lighter, more durable and protective. Based on technological advancements in the camera, sports, and military supply industries, Kaces developed a line of fabric and polyfoam cases, as well as an improved line of traditional wood cases. Kaces gig bags and cases are designed based on the latest technology and materials, and provide lightweight durability that makes them tough, yet easy to carry. Kaces is dedicated to providing high quality, affordable products for all musicians, from the beginner to the working musician.
