14 best single strings
Single strings, in the context of musical instruments and instrument accessories, refer to individual strings that are used to replace or customize the strings on various musical instruments, such as guitars, violins, cellos, and more. Here is some information about single strings:
String Materials: Single strings are available in various materials, each with its unique tone and characteristics. Common materials include steel, nickel-plated steel, bronze, phosphor bronze, gut, and synthetic materials. The choice of material can significantly impact the sound produced by the instrument.
Instrument Compatibility: Different musical instruments require specific types and gauges of strings. For example, guitars typically use steel or nylon strings, while classical guitars use nylon strings exclusively. Violins and cellos use gut or synthetic core strings. It's crucial to choose the right type of single string for your instrument.
String Gauges: Strings come in various thicknesses or gauges, ranging from light to heavy. The gauge of a string affects its playability and tone. Lighter gauge strings are easier to play but may produce a brighter tone, while heavier gauge strings can offer a fuller, richer sound.
Tuning and Pitch: Single strings are available in different lengths and pitches to match the tuning of the instrument. For guitars, the most common tunings are standard (EADGBE) for acoustic and electric guitars and various open tunings for slide and fingerstyle playing.
Coated vs. Uncoated: Some single strings come with coatings, such as polymer coatings or nanoweb coatings, which can extend their lifespan and reduce corrosion. Coated strings may also produce a slightly different tone compared to uncoated ones.
Brand and Quality: The quality of a single string can vary depending on the brand and manufacturer. Established brands often provide reliable and consistent quality, but there are also boutique string makers known for their unique offerings.
Customization: Musicians often customize their instrument's setup by mixing and matching different brands or types of strings to achieve the desired tone and playability. Experimentation with different single strings can help musicians find their preferred sound.
Maintenance: Proper maintenance of strings is essential to ensure their longevity and tone. Regular cleaning and changing of strings can significantly improve the sound of an instrument.
Cost: The cost of single strings can vary widely depending on the brand, material, and quality. High-quality strings may be more expensive but can offer better sound and durability.
In summary, single strings are individual strings that musicians use to replace or customize the strings on their musical instruments. Choosing the right type, material, gauge, and brand of single string is essential for achieving the desired sound and playability on the instrument.

User questions & answers
Question: | I would like to know if each packet comes with three strings in one package envelope |
Answer: | NO. Single string packs are just that. Single strings, as in ONE string. There are other listings that have multiple string packs, such as B00V0Z2AF2 which is a pack of five strings. I custom package those and list them under a UPC Code that my company owns. |
Question: | Is that corresponds to the B acoustic guitar string |
Answer: | It really depends on what gauge set of strings you choose. There are sets that have high E strings from .08 to .14 or so. A light guage set of acoustic strings often uses a .012 string as the high E string. In fact, that's probably the most common guage used for 6 string acoustic guitars. It's what I use for my 6-string acoustic. So the answer to your question is that there really is no answer. It's up to the guitarist to choose what gauge strings he wants. |
Question: | Are the strings individually wrapped |
Answer: | No, they are in a single poly bag inside the cardboard packet. |
Question: | Why did the single string go from 69 cents or over |
Answer: | You are comparing apples and oranges. A string might be $.69 but what was the shipping charge? You have to look at the total price which is why people who only buy items with "free shipping" often pay more than they should. To put a single string in a box (for protection) and ship it the postage is almost $3.00. Do a search for PL010 and you will find various "multi-packs" available. First Stop Music Shop custom packages both 5 and 10 packs of this string. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I'm looking for extra strings for my new Les Paul Special II. I'm buing guitar from amazon, it costs $149. Are this strings compatible |
Answer: | Short answer, yes they should be fine. Long answer, the comparability between strings and guitars doesnt matter, its the string slots that in the nut that matter. The les Paul's usually use bigger strings anyway. |
Question: | what is the difference between slinky and non slinky |
Answer: | Slinky is just a line of strings from Ernie Ball, the "Slinkier" they are the thinner they are, regular Slinky are 10 gauge strings, super slinky are 9s, and "Not Even Slinky" strings are 12s (the number represents the gauge of the lightest string in the set). |
Question: | Do all 6 strings come in the "1 pack |
Answer: | All 6 of the strings are in the pack, they just put each string into its own paper envelope for easy identification. The ball-ends aren't color-coded like D'addario. Hope this helps. :) |
Question: | Why are these ranked #1 in the category "Fishing |
Answer: | Put a hook on one end. Unless your record bass has a floyd rose on it's back, and it pulls back too hard, you'll catch it! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these strings have a ball end |
Answer: | These are not DOUBLE ball end if that is what you are looking for. D'Addario offers double ball end strings in their SPL series and they only come in .009 , .010 , .011 . .013 , .016 , and .017 gauges. These strings have a single ball end and plain wire on the other end -- pretty much standard strings. It's still a mystery to me why they call it a "BALL" end when it is just a "round hoop" for lack of a better term in my mind. A ball is like a globe or baseball not a doughnut! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Which of the classic pure nickel slinky sets have unwound g (3rd) strings |
Answer: | All of the Ernie Ball Pure Nickel Slinky sets currently available have unwound 3rd strings. This particular brand denotes "w" next to the 3rd string gauge number to denote a wound 3rd. Notice no "w"s are present on any of the packages here, so no sets contain a wound 3rd. |
Question: | Are these strings round or hex core |
Answer: | From the Ernie Ball website (do a search for 2253) they say this: "Made from pure nickel wire wrapped around tin plated hex shaped steel core wire, these guitar strings produce a warm rich tone with that signature Slinky feel. Gauges .009, .011, .016, .024w, .032, .042 " so according to Ernie Ball they are HEX CORE. |
Question: | What’s the difference between hybrid and regular strings |
Answer: | The difference is the string gauges. The 9-11-16-26-36-46 is considered a "hybrid gauge" set. It has the 9-11-16 of their "super" slinky sets and the 26-36-46 of their "regular" sets. So it's a hybrid of the 9s and 10s. Hope that helps! |
Question: | Why do these strings turn my fingers black ? Anybody else had this problem |
Answer: | They don't turn my fingers black, but they do taste like licoric |

Question: | would this work for slicing cheese |
Answer: | I've never tried it but I guess if the string was held in an appropriate method or a handle of some sort then Yes, it could easily cut cheese. It is certainly strong enough of course it might be effective depending on the density of the cheese. This "E" string at 0.10 is one of the thinner size guitar strings. Consider other thicker non-wound strings such as 012 or 0.14. or 0.17 (the higher the number the thicker the string) are thin. easy to clean and could work. Good Luck |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this string fully wrapped all the way to the ball |
Answer: | Yes, it is. All of D'Addario's wound strings are done that way, and I'm not just stringing you along. |
Question: | Is the .020 string wound |
Answer: | Honestly, I don't remember for certain, but I'm reasonably sure that a string that small is a solid, non-wound string. You can go to www.daddario.com and ask them directly. Sorry I can't be of more help to you. |
Question: | How many come in one order |
Answer: | This strings comes one single string to a package. It may seem a bit expensive, but it's a large string made to play a low F# - 4 half-steps below B as on a 5-string bass, so it's a big string. For me, it is well worth the bucks, because I have more than one extended range bass, and I like to play the low-down notes. |
Question: | My bass is tunned in eadgc, can i use this .032 string as a "c |
Answer: | Yes! Most regular 6-string sets have a .030 to .032 string for the C. You're right on the money. If you want to be certain, just look up 6-string bass string sets on the I-net. Happy playing. |

- Great Choice for Replacing the Broken High E String without Spending Money for a Whole Set

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you what strings you need on a squier |
Answer: | The same set of strings you use on any other electric guitar. You can use extra light, light, medium or the heavy set (1-6 strings) of strings depends on how hard you want to play. If you’re a beginner you may want to start on extra light (.009) high E set of strings. |
Question: | For an acoustic guitar, what size would be good for a high e string |
Answer: | I am assuming that you are referring to a steel string acoustic. Even then it depends upon the sound you want and the action you prefer. For the average steel string acoustic with "light gage strings, I would most likely choose a string of .010 in. If that seems to heavy, or the action seems to heavy, you could use a string of .009 in., or if you want a heavier tone (and action) you could try a .011 in string. I know that this did not help you much, but I could suggest that you check the sizes of that high E string on the packages of several reputable string companies, and see what they use. You might get a better idea from that. Best wishes in your effort. |
Question: | What are these strings made of? Steel or nickel |
Answer: | Probably nickle. I break them often, once every two weeks. The 09 I have from the same brand breaks even more, probably every two or three sessions. I'm told Ernie Ball's "Paradigim" and D'Addario are one of the best steel strings out there. |
Question: | Can you use a higher gauge lets say .009 for E and .012 for B? or are these only for E |
Answer: | Yes you can, in fact you can even go to a .011 for B. The Ernie Balls Super Slinky set of strings have a .009 for E and a .011 for B. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does the A string sound? In my experience its usually worth buying one separate expensive A string |
Answer: | Hello, I've been playing cello for 2 years and fiddle for 4 years. From my experience with the Preludes is the highest string (A on cello and E on fiddle) wear out from full sound before the others and sound a bit more metallic than the other strings in the set. I believe this is why people will use a different high string. Your playing/practicing schedule would make the most impact on whether to use the A string with this set or to secure an additional one. I play about an hour a week and see a minimal amount of impact after 18 months (yes, I hate changing strings). If you are playing more often you or more than just in a school program, you may see a need for a different A string or just changing all the strings after 8 - 10 months. |
Question: | Is there any type of warranty on these strings? My son had them on for about a month before his A string frayed and broke |
Answer: | First I would have a luthier check your instrument for imperfections that can cause a string to break. Very common. As for warranty, contact the manufacturer or place a claim to Amazon. |
Question: | would these work on a bass guitar |
Answer: | Please don't use cello strings for a bass guitar- the tuning is totally different and the strings for a bass guitar are much thicker. |
Question: | Stupid question, but can these be used on an electric cello too |
Answer: | Apparently yes. Mine worked fine. |
