User questions & answers
Question: | Is it good to only use light rosin if you live in a city that is mostly humid during all seasons |
Answer: | I have never heard that humidity is a significant factor in choosing the right rosin. Dark rosin is generally stickier than light and this is the primary reason that people choose one over the other. |
Question: | Which kind of rosin would be best for a beginner violist? Light or Dark |
Answer: | all answers here are incorrect. in summer (if your weather is warm) you should use light rosin, the heat makes the tree sap more sticky. but in winter you use dark rosin because it is typically very sticky and the cold balances it ou |
Question: | What are the dimensions and weight? Thanks |
Answer: | The rosin itself is 2 & 1/8 x 1 & 1/4 x 3/4 inches and weighs 1.2 ounces. It comes in a box that's slightly larger. Hope that helps! Thanks, Jason |
Question: | How well dose it work in an city like Austin,Texas should I get this or something else or couple of different ones for the different whether condtions |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many times do brand new strings have to be rubbed on this to get sound from a brand new violin |
Answer: | I ordered from the site and it's been sitting with USPS for more than a week. The company is not really helping and suggested that I be the one who tracks it down. I wish I had Amazon's support to help fix this. |
Question: | I recently purchased the dark version of this rosin for my violin, it does not seem to be working very well. Should I purchase the light version |
Answer: | Yes, we include a drawstring bag to carry the resistance bands and resistance band sleeve. This makes it very easy to store everything away with the Gorilla Bow. -Gorilla Fitness |
Question: | Is it genuine |
Answer: | I ordered on March 23rd and was promised 4-5 days to ship but they keep pushing the date for shipment back. I also ordered a spinning bike which came remarkably fast (within 5 days of ordering). Going to order Monkii Bars and see how fast it ships. I believe that, from their website, they have much stock but they had to build a new warehouse and also sent some of their people to NYC to help out first responders. Not sure why they would do this especially since they need their people to fulfill orders for customers at home who need to stay healthy. It would be nice if they had a 1-800 number since email response from this company is awfully slow. |
Question: | Do you attach the rosing cake to the soft cloth it comes with? If so, how |
Answer: | This bow is not designed for hunting, but use the Gorilla Bow enough and you'll be able to take down the largest of game with your bare hands ;) -The Gorilla Fitness Team |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this rosin for cellos or for violins |
Answer: | This is my son's response as he plays violin......this is for violin as rosin for cellos and basses need to be stronger and stickier...... |
Question: | Whats the difference between dark rosin and light rosin |
Answer: | Dark rosin is stickier and softer. Light rosin is harder and less sticky. They also make a difference in how the instrument will sound. |
Question: | I live in east Tennessee, so which type of rosen should i use dark or light |
Answer: | This has more to do with the type of instrument you are playing. Most people prefer the lighter rosin with violin, darker with cello. Viola tends to go either way in my experience. |
Question: | How do i know which rosin to get? Im new at playing the volin |
Answer: | Hi, I have a degree is the viola and play professionally in two symphonies. A lot of it which rosin you get will depend on your personal preference, which you’ll develop over time. Do you prefer a rosin with more grip? Dark versus light? Etc. While price does certainly have a relationship to quality, I’ve found it is not necessary to spend $20 on a cake of rosin if you find one that you like and works well with your instrument. That all said, generally dark amber rosin works well for most beginners. You would be fine with this rosin. |

User questions & answers
Question: | where is it made |
Answer: | Try using less when you apply it. It really is designed for use on a cello bow. I have never tried the light version. You might try it. |
Question: | How long does shipping take |
Answer: | My 15y (1st chair in his school district) and 10y loves it for their viola. I don’t know if it’s genuine. But it is good. Hope it helps. |
Question: | I bought the 15.5 inch cecilio/d'addario prelude strings. i want to buy an extra set of the same strings. what size and tension is on my viola now |
Answer: | The rosin was already attached to mine also. Rosin is very sticky so you can probably reattach the cloth. I would lay out a paper towel on an ironing board. Put the rosin on it, followed by the cloth, followed by another paper towel to protect your iron. On a lower heat setting, warm the rosin through the paper towel until it seems to stick to the cloth. |

How to choose viola sizes
Our violas are available in 7 different sizes: 16.5", 16" (also known as full size), 15.5", 15", 14", 13" and 12". 16.5" viola is the biggest and 12" viola is the smallest. Most adults use 16" violas.
To measure what size viola best suits you, you need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm (when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body, just like holding a violin). Most of the teachers prefer students to use the length from the neck to the wrist for measurement instead of the neck to mid-palm approach. The viola size determined by the neck/wrist approach would be the size that is more comfortable for students to hold. The viola size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use.
The following table lists the length of each viola size. Find your length using your preferred approach and use that to determine the size of viola to get.

Cecilio CVN-200 Violin
The Cecilio CVN-200 has a bright and warm tone that sounds spirited and clear, perfect for any student who is just starting to learn the violin. It has a beautiful overall quality and works remarkably well in any groups or orchestras that a beginning student might choose to play in. In addition to its warmer tone, the CVN-200 possesses superior clarity and smoothness, making it easy to use and pleasing to listen to. The Cecilio CVN-200 is exceptionally durable and will allow any student the opportunity to learn the basics and find out what they really want out of their violin.
How to choose violin sizes
Violins are available in 8 different sizes: 4/4 (also called full size), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32. Size 4/4 is the biggest and size 1/32 is the smallest. All adults, regardless of their size, use the size 4/4 violin.
To measure what size violin best suits you, you need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm (when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body, just like holding a violin). Most of the teachers prefer students to use the length from the neck to the wrist for measurement instead of the neck to mid-palm approach. The violin size determined by the neck/wrist approach would be the size that is more comfortable for students to hold. The violin size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use. The following table lists the length of each violin size. Find your length using your preferred approach and use that to determine the size of violin to get.
If you have a teacher, you should ask for your teacher's recommendation. If you don't have a teacher, we would recommend using the neck/wrist approach for students not using full size; for students who are deciding whether to used size 3/4 or size 4/4, use the neck/mid-palm approach. This is because it is always better those students feeling comfortable holding and playing the violin. However, while deciding between size 3/4 and size 4/4, if neck/mid-palm approach allows for size 4/4, then buying a size 4/4 is more economical since you don't have to buy another bigger size violin later. This is completely based on economical consideration. You should still decide what best suits your need.

User questions & answers
Question: | How long do these last for |
Answer: | As long as it rosin for a bow, it should be ok. |
Question: | What difference does color make for rosin |
Answer: | Some people do and some dont but my daughter takes a little piece of sandpaper or coin to lightly break the glossy seal of the rosin when its new. Tighten your bow and stroke it back and forth across the rosin before playing. You'll have to experiment with your own instrument to figure out exactly how many strokes is enough but if it's a brand new string with no rosin ever applied I'd give it at least 40-50 strokes to start. |
Question: | How do you apply Rosin |
Answer: | Good question! Weird |
Question: | Why are there reviews and photos of hangers, when the product is "rosin |
Answer: | hi the Violin rosin is pure pine resin. |

Question: | Can I use this set on a 3/4 cello |
Answer: | This might be a bit thick for that...I use it to clean off the outside of my flute, which is rose gold plated. It would probably absorb enough to work, I'm just not sure if it is thin enough to get through the whole flute. I can recommend an awesome product for cleaning the inside of your flute & it doesn't require a metal rod, but it's not sold on Amazon. If you're interested, email me @ [email protected] |

Answer: | It is 100% cotton. We recommend these cloths for the very reason you mentioned because the artificial fibers will dull the finish. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these work on electric violins |
Answer: | Cecilio CVN-200 has bright and clear sound. Mendini MV200 and MV300: same quality but with different finish. Both have mellow and warm sound. Mendini MV400: Ebony fittings, has bright and clear sound Mendini MV500: Ebony fittings, has deep rich and powerful tone |
Question: | how many strings come in these packets? is it just one, all or half |
Answer: | you have to tune it and rosin up the bow |
Question: | Are these ball ends |
Answer: | This is because the pegs are not tapered to fit the pegs. They are only drilled straight through. They must be hand fitted for the pegs to stay put after tuning. These instruments take many shortcuts to make them cheaper. That is a big problem as the student will get frustrated (and so will their teacher) and all too often will quit playing because of the cheap method of construction. Do Not Buy Any Super Cheap Instruments!!! Would you expect a super cheap car to be reliable and safe? Of course not!! Why do you think this is different? |
Question: | I´m just learning to play. What does medium, heavy, light tension mean? Which should I buy |
Answer: | It does not come with extra set of string. |
