User questions & answers
Question: | its good for synthetic strings |
Answer: | This rosin is good for all kind of strings. Including synthetic. |
Question: | How does the jade l'opera rosin compare to the dark d'addario kaplan artcraft rosin |
Answer: | To answer my own question... after having used both rosins I personally prefer the Jade. They are both good rosins, but the Jade seems less dusty and provides smoother flow of the bow without being excessively sticky. Personal opinions may vary on this, but having used both, the Jade seems to work a bit better overall. Some folks have tried to use a combination of both. I have experimented with this and found it to work well... a little bit of Kaplan, a little bit of Jade. |
Question: | Will this turn my bow green |
Answer: | Someone here has mentioned this, but I've been using this for almost a year and the bow hair is not visibly green at all. It goes on white like any other rosin. |
Question: | Do you need to use something sharp to break the surface before using it for the first time |
Answer: | No you don't. Using a sharp object on rosin will cause it to break into pieces and shorten its lifespan. What you do is simply apply the rosin to your bow hair. I find a few full bow strokes over the surface of the rosin is all that is necessary. This particular rosin is Jade green, and over time your bow hair will turn green. Use a washcloth to remove excess rosin from your strings where the bow comes in contact with them. Pinch each string gently with the washcloth between your fingers, and gently clean your strings one at a time. A washcloth can also be used to remove fingerprints from the body of your cello. |

Question: | Has anybody done a comparison between jade rosin and hill dark rosin? i have been using hill, but it makes me sneeze and my nose itch. my teacher su |
Answer: | You need to gently buff the surface of the rosin to “open” it for use. You can do this by gently rubbing a finger nail file on it until the shiny surface goes away, or find a clean piece of cement to very gently rub the smooth surface away. Then wipe it clean with a sry cloth and rosin your strings. Good luck and happy playing! |
Question: | How do i use this. is the plastic that encases the rosin ok to rub the strings? i cannot remove the plastic covering |
Answer: | Yes, my daughter's orchestra teacher said it was excellent quality. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this rosin for cellos or for violins |
Answer: | This is my son's response as he plays violin......this is for violin as rosin for cellos and basses need to be stronger and stickier...... |
Question: | Whats the difference between dark rosin and light rosin |
Answer: | Dark rosin is stickier and softer. Light rosin is harder and less sticky. They also make a difference in how the instrument will sound. |
Question: | I live in east Tennessee, so which type of rosen should i use dark or light |
Answer: | This has more to do with the type of instrument you are playing. Most people prefer the lighter rosin with violin, darker with cello. Viola tends to go either way in my experience. |
Question: | How do i know which rosin to get? Im new at playing the volin |
Answer: | Hi, I have a degree is the viola and play professionally in two symphonies. A lot of it which rosin you get will depend on your personal preference, which you’ll develop over time. Do you prefer a rosin with more grip? Dark versus light? Etc. While price does certainly have a relationship to quality, I’ve found it is not necessary to spend $20 on a cake of rosin if you find one that you like and works well with your instrument. That all said, generally dark amber rosin works well for most beginners. You would be fine with this rosin. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long do these last for |
Answer: | As long as it rosin for a bow, it should be ok. |
Question: | What difference does color make for rosin |
Answer: | Some people do and some dont but my daughter takes a little piece of sandpaper or coin to lightly break the glossy seal of the rosin when its new. Tighten your bow and stroke it back and forth across the rosin before playing. You'll have to experiment with your own instrument to figure out exactly how many strokes is enough but if it's a brand new string with no rosin ever applied I'd give it at least 40-50 strokes to start. |
Question: | How do you apply Rosin |
Answer: | Good question! Weird |
Question: | Why are there reviews and photos of hangers, when the product is "rosin |
Answer: | hi the Violin rosin is pure pine resin. |

Liebenzeller Rosin Liebenzeller metal rosin has been made in a small village in the German Black Forest for over 40 years. Made traditionally by hand, Liebenzeller rosin contains delicate bubbles which emphasize the special quality and spirited nature of the rosin. Using pure larch resin with the addition of different metals produces livelier, warmer and brighter sounds than other rosins. This will help produce enhanced tonal volume, greater modulation and carrying power, conveying the individual sound of the instrument without effort, and one-sided tones can be compensated. The bow develops an excellent and even response, with ambient noise minimized. Choosing the right rosin is critical as it is the rosin that creates the sound while playing. Liebenzeller rosin enhances a string instrument's sound as well as the player's creativity with as little effort as possible. We are proud to reintroduce Liebenzeller rosin to the United States after an extended period when it was unavailable here. Liebenzeller rosin is available with Gold, Silver, Copper or Meteor Iron added for a range of unique sounds. GOLD Uniquely balanced; the sound is full, round and warm as well as bright and crisp, transparent and light in high notes. Grades I (hard) to VI (soft): the softer grades make the harshness of an instrument milder and enhance it, the harder grades provide more clarity. Gold IV: uniquely balanced, a bit more mellow (cello)
