14 best crescent violin bows

Crescent violin bows are a type of bow used in the world of orchestral strings, particularly with the violin. Here is some information about Crescent violin bows:

  1. Bow for String Instruments: A Crescent violin bow is a crucial accessory for playing the violin and other orchestral string instruments. The bow is responsible for creating the sound when drawn across the strings of the instrument.

  2. Materials: Crescent violin bows are typically made from a combination of materials. The bowstick, which is the long, slender part, is traditionally crafted from high-quality wood, such as pernambuco or brazilwood. The horsehair, stretched taut across the bow, is traditionally made from horsehair, which interacts with the strings to produce sound.

  3. Design: Crescent bows are named for the crescent-shaped curve at the end of the bowstick, which is a distinctive feature. The crescent shape is created through a process of heating and bending the wood, and it's often seen as a mark of craftsmanship and aesthetics.

  4. Bow Hair: The hair of the bow is a vital component. It is usually made from horsehair, as it provides the right texture and grip for drawing sound from the strings. The bow hair is carefully tightened and rosin is applied to enhance its grip on the strings.

  5. Quality and Craftsmanship: The quality of a Crescent violin bow can vary widely depending on the craftsmanship and materials used.Higher-end bows are often made from premium wood and meticulously crafted by experienced bow makers. The workmanship can significantly impact the tone and playability of the instrument.

  6. Sound and Playability: The choice of bow can influence the sound produced by a violin. Different bows can produce variations in tone, volume, and articulation. Musicians often select bows that complement their playing style and the sound they wish to achieve.

  7. Price Range: Crescent violin bows come in a range of price points, from affordable options suitable for beginners to professional-grade bows that can be quite expensive. The price is influenced by factors such as the quality of materials, craftsmanship, and the reputation of the bow maker.

  8. Maintenance: Proper maintenance is essential to keep a Crescent violin bow in good condition. This includes regular rehairing, applying rosin as needed, and storing the bow in a suitable case to protect it from damage.

Crescent violin bows, like other types of bows, play a significant role in a violinist's ability to produce beautiful music. The choice of bow is a personal one, with musicians selecting bows that complement their instruments and playing style, and that help them achieve their desired sound and expression.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the bow made 100% of carbon fiber (because if it is then i will consider buying it
Answer: Definitely. I've been using it for 6 months and it seems to be of quite high quality. This bow is is too good to be true for the price.
Question: Does this contain horsehair
Answer: YES! My wood bow weighs 68.5 grams. This carbon bow weighs 61.2 grams I don't know what is wrong with the other person's scale who "answered" this question, cause it is 61.2 grams, NOT 200g
Question: Is this bow lighter than a wood bow
Answer: I do not know - however it is my favorite bow. Light and expressive. I give 5 out of 5. You'll love it.
Question: It's this made with Mongolian horse hair
Answer: As with any acoustic, you can play without an amp. It has good projection.

User questions & answers

Question: What is bow hair made of
Answer: For the Diamond GX, CodaBow uses first selection stallion hair, usually Mongolian, if I recall correctly. For violin bows, the hair comes from white horses, so the hair itself ranges from white to light tan, because the hair is not bleached to make the color uniform, as this would damage the hair.
Question: Do it come with warranty
Answer: Hi, the Diamond GX comes with a limited lifetime warranty. details, warranty of the shaft of your CodaBow against defects in workmanship and material for the term of the warranty under normal playing conditions. CodaBow Warranty is available only to the original owner for a new CodaBow purchased from an Authorized CodaBow Dealer. A warranty will not be activated for a bow that was pre-owned.Best Regards Ian sound biz, music technology
Question: hi, i would like to know how this item comes wrapped for shipping, is it in a hard rounded box
Answer: Hi Tomas, if you buy the CodaBow from us we ship these bows in a protective cardboard sleeve which is then surrounded in bubble wrap or padding and shipped in a structured, crush-tested bow box. We've never had a damage claim so far on a bow shipped like this.

Question: how much pressure do you use to bow? i started to play at 5 stopped at 7. i'm 65 years old wanting to start violin again i play 9 different instrument

Answer: There still isn't enough rosin on it. Remember that a new bow starts out wihout ANY rosin and needs a great deal to get started. I recommend scratching the rosin with the screw part of the bow to get out more rosin and then wipe the bow hair accross it to get ample amount on the bow :)
Question: This one only weight 0.8 ounces

User questions & answers

Question: Can the plastic covering the golden mount be taken off or is it supposed to be that way
Answer: If you pull it too long, it is basically difficult to return to the original state. So please don't stretch it hard. If it is stretched normally, there is generally no problem
Question: I was wondering if this bow had nylon or horsehair. RE: .Full-size 4/4 Silver Winding Violin Bow, Fluer-de-lys Inlay, Golden Mount
Answer: It’s like a thin rubber band, but seems pretty strong. I’m going to double it when I make a necklace just so it’s stronger.
Question: Does this bow come with rosin
Answer: Love this product (Jewelry Cord) Actually purchased this product again and will continue to do so
Question: what kind of wood is it
Answer: That knot is fine, but you could experiment with several different ones to see which works best. A figure eight knot would probably be more secure. Also, when working with knots in elastic cord, a drop of jewelry glue on the knot is the best way to make sure it stays put. You can find many types of jewelry glue on Amazon and will want one that specifically mentions that it's flexible. If you don't have any and need something right away, you could use nail polish or super glue, but neither of those are flexible, so they would only work temporarily and wouldn't be as reliable as the jewelry glue.

Question: does the bow come with rosin
Answer: No. Just bow
Question: Is there anything that needs to be done to the bow for it to be used? When used on my daughter’s violin it makes no sound
Answer: Ensure that the bow is tightened to about 3/4" from hair to wood. Also, make sure that you use plenty of rosin, since that is what makes the bow "grab" the strings. Hope this helps.
Question: Is this bow well balanced
Answer: It seems to be- I am not a professional musician but I like this bow a lot. It seems that I have much more control over it than my old bow, which was probably 50 years old.
Question: I noticed this bow is 4/4. Can it be used in 3/4 as well
Answer: A 3/4 violin is a smaller violin for kids, and a 4/4 violin is a full-sized adult violin. This 4/4 full-sized bow will not fit in a smaller 3/4 violin case.
