User questions & answers
Question: | does the midi software (velvet, xpand, and mini grand) work as plugins with Ableton 9? As a vst? or are they stand alone |
Answer: | They should work both ways |
Question: | What kind of usb connector is needed to connect to an iPad with (lightning cable |
Answer: | I wanted to connect my Yamaha p125 to my ipad and was told to buy that ridiculously expensive Apple Camera Adapter. Instead, I bought an Amazon Basics regular USB to iPad Pro USB adapter for around 10 bucks. Works the same and a whole lot cheaper. Don't believe me? Go to Sweetwater's website and look at the demo video using the Yamaha keyboard with the ipad Pro. You can see the same adapter. |
Question: | Will this work with Mac Mojave |
Answer: | This is from the M-Audio website FAQ's: Will the Keystation Mini 32 MK3 work with my Windows or Mac computer? Yes! The Keystation Mini 32 MK3 is a class-compliant device, which means that it's plug-and-play and does not require any drivers to be installed. This also means that it will work and is supported on the latest operating systems, including Windows 10 and Mac 10.14. The important take-away, for everyone, is this: "The Keystation Mini 32 MK3 is a class-compliant device". |
Question: | Is the 49 key semi weighted as well |
Answer: | I owned the Keystation 88 II, which has the semi-weighted feel. So, rather than guess at the answer to your question, I just checked the M-Audio website. Their description says that the Keystation 49 MK3 has a synth action. That type of action, typically, is a lighter spring feel than the semi-weighted feel. I actually liked the feel,of the 88 II. I owned two of them. One lasted four years. The second unit only one and a half years. I take particularly good care of my equipment. And don’t pound on the keys. However, they both failed far too soon, in my opinion. I have switched to the Nektar brand. Only time will tell about their durability. Good luck with your choice. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pedal work with all Korg keyboards |
Answer: | The pedal has reversible polarity, so it will work with all keyboards. |
Question: | Does this pedal have a gradient on the sensitivity for the sustain, OR is it an on/off sustain switch |
Answer: | It appears this is a simple on/off switch pedal. For continuous or gradient performance the phrases to look for in sustain pedal description are "half-damper" or "half-pedaling." If there is no indication by the manufacturer of one of those descriptions, the pedal is just an on/off switch. If your digital piano or electronic keyboard supports half-damper, then a half-damper pedal varies the nature of the sustain effect based on how far down you depress the pedal. The only half-damper pedals I have found so are the Yamaha FC3A, Roland DP-10, and Korg DS1H. The half-damper effect emulates the action on an acoustic piano of lifting the felt damping pads only part way off of the strings. |
Question: | Where is the cable of the pedal |
Answer: | its permanently attached to the pedal. |
Question: | For a while, my pedal sustained when NOT depressed, sort of a reverse functionality, which I actually appreciated...but can't replicate. Anyone else |
Answer: | According to the FAQ on the manufacturer's web site (for the SP-Double and SP-Triple), ¨Are the pedals switchable? The pedals will not have a switch to change polarity and will operate as normally open. This means that the pedal will send a value of 0 when up and a value of 127 when pressed down all the way. Different manufacturers may program their keyboards to respond to the opposite (127 when up, 0 when down) and to combat this some pedals may come with a switch to change the polarity of the pedal to match that of the keyboard. Typically, though there are ways around this without the need for the switch.¨ (The article is on the manufacture's website at: http://m-audio.com/kb/article/1967 ) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the Hammer 88 have screw connections on the bottom to secure to a stand |
Answer: | I've had my casio for over a year now and have had no problems with the keys. I like the piano very much. |
Question: | Would some who studied classical piano for many years be happy with the action as practice keyboard? Most I’ve tried are too spongey weird weighting |
Answer: | I connect my WK660 to my computer via usb cable, and immediately it is recognized by Windows. I use FL Studio, so I just go to MIDI settings and select Casio in the list for output/input MIDI. Thats it. THen I can use my KW660 as a MIDI controller |
Question: | When the controller is placed on a desk, what is the height (precisely measured if possible) from the desk surface to the top of the white keys |
Answer: | It has piano-style keys but they are not weighted. |
Question: | Are the keys full sized, like a real piano keyboard, or are they smaller, like many other keyboards |
Answer: | No, it does not. The only way to add voice would be to plug in to an external amp/speaker that also had a microphone. The external device would also need an output to a recording device. |

Product description
The SP-Dual pedal from M-Audio performs all the standard sustain, sostenuto, and damping functions that your performance demands. Additionally, they add the versatility of 2 and 3 independent ¼” output cables. This means you can use the SP-Dual with any keyboard that has sustain and/or foot controller ¼” input jacks. The pedal is assignable to keyboard functions such as patch advance, sequencer stop/start and modulation effects-exactly as you require from a momentary foot controller.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the SP-Dual or SP-Triple work with my keyboard?
The SP-Dual and SP-Triple pedals are built to function with nearly any MIDI keyboard that has multiple pedal inputs.
The SP-Dual pedal performs all the standard soft and damping functions while the SP-Triple pedal performs all the standard soft, sostenuto, and damping functions. If you are unsure if you can use two or three pedals, just check the back of your keyboard for available inputs or ask the keyboard manufacturer.
The SP-Dual has two and the SP-Triple has three momentary non-latching foot pedals that allow for the ability to be connected and assigned to keyboards that have multiple pedal input connections. MIDI controller pedal inputs can often have the functionality of the port re-assigned. This is dependent upon the controller. In some cases, there are many options to choose from - and those options such as sustain, etc. that can be controlled by a momentary, non-latching foot switch can be assigned.
Why would I need two or three foot pedals?
Some keyboards have multiple foot pedal inputs. Sustain inputs are fairly common, but some MIDI keyboards will also have an input for expression pedals. An expression pedal input can be used to send additional information to your keyboard or software to modulate a particular effect by using your foot instead of taking your hands off of the keys. The expression pedal can usually be assigned to an effect somewhere in your keyboard or software.
In addition to sustain and expression, some keyboards may have particular inputs like "organ swell" that are specific to their model. Usually these are standalone keyboards that emulate organs or pianos and provide the option to add additional sustain pedals to make the experience more realistic. Typically, pianos have several pedals with different functions, sometimes just different versions of sustain pedals, and some keyboard manufacturers may want to emulate this.
How can I tell which cable goes to which pedal?
The SP-Dual has 1/4" outputs, one for each of its pedals. The left and right connections are labeled on the cable at the point where the connection splits as Land R, respectively.
The SP-Triple has 1/4" outputs, one for each of its pedals. The left, right, and center connections are labeled on the cable at the point where the connection splits as L, C, and R, respectively.
Are the pedals switchable?
The pedals will not have a switch to change polarity and will operate as Normally Open.
Sustain pedals act similar to a basic circuit, so saying the sustain pedal is Normally Open is saying that the circuit is open while the pedal is up, i.e. the circuit is disconnected and the flow has been stopped. Whereas, a Normally Closed pedal will close the circuit in it's up position, i.e. the circuit has been connected and electricity can flow openly from one point to the next. This means that connecting a normally open pedal to a keyboard expecting normally closed may result in the keyboard sustaining until the pedal is pressed down.
Different manufacturers may program their keyboards to respond one way or the other, while others even design the keyboards to adapt to the preference of the pedal. Just in case, some pedals may come with a switch to change their polarity, but even still there are ways around this without the need for a switch. If you're unsure, you may want to contact your keyboard's manufacturer to see which position they prefer.
The keyboard is sustaining when the pedal is released. What do I do?
This is a good example of opposing polarity between the keyboard/software and the pedal. This is usually very easy to resolve from the keyboard or your software. Here are a few things you can try:
- Trick the Keyboard
Hold down the pedal while powering the keyboard on. Depending on the keyboard, this could trick the board into thinking the pedals down position is the up position and vice versa. Alternatively, you can try plugging in the pedal after the keyboard has been turned or holding the pedal down while plugging it in while the keyboards is on. One of these should work with virtually any keyboard to switch the response back and forth. Use your best judgement to assign this accordingly.
- Edit the Keyboard Response
A lot of keyboards have the ability to change Min/Max (up/down) values or polarity of the pedal inputs from their standard editing features or global parameter menus. For example, the M-Audio Code keyboards give users the ability to change the max/min values by using the Edit mode and adjusting the Data 2 and Data 3 values. Check with your keyboard manufacturer to see if this is an option with your board.
- Edit the Software Response
If you are using the keyboard with a DAW or virtual instrument, sometimes the software response can be adjusted to match the polarity or min/max value of the pedal input. Check with the software provider for more info on this.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the usb port deliver power to a m-audio keystation |
Answer: | It definitely will! It works perfectly with my M-audio Keystation 49es |
Question: | I have an Alesis dm5 drum module. Can i hook this into it and pull drum sounds off it and use them on trigger pads |
Answer: | This device does not have a midi port and I have only tried it with m-audio keyboards. However you can't seem to upload any new voices. The sound engine also is very limited. I would not consider this device for your application. |
Question: | Could I use it with two controllers (Keyboard and bass pedal) at same time |
Answer: | I don't think so. |
Question: | Does it work only with M-Audio controler/keyboard or any brand |
Answer: | Hi Keterson,M-Audio support here! The Accent Module will work with any brand keyboard controller. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it have a transpose function |
Answer: | Hi Elijah,M-Audio support here! There is a transpose function on the Keystation. The instructions are written in the Quickstart Guide which can be read on our website, www.maudio.com. I hope this helps, but if you have any other questions, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. |
Question: | I just got mine and did not bring any cd of Ableton. I also want to know where and how the SONiVOX Eight Eight Ensemble is installed |
Answer: | Hello Gilmer. As the M-Audio Keystation 88 is a CONTROLLER keyboard it is meant to be used with a computer that is running music software. The Ableton software is one such program (PC Only). As my studio is Mac-based I did not bother looking at the Ableton program, however I'd imagine you download it just like you download the Sonivox virtual piano. Definitely for the SONiVOX (and probably the Ableton too) you use the web link provided in the pamphlet documentation that came with your keyboard and use the promo-codes to initiate the download for free (the sonivox alone is nearly 9GB and certainly would not fit on a CD... or even 13 CDs). Once downloaded you would integrate the plug-in/VST instrument by whatever means is required for the specific music software you are using-- you should consult YOUR programs manual or online forums on your particular issue for directions specific to what you are using for DAW software. I use Logic Pro X and was not difficult for me but I know Logic pretty well. I hope that helps! |
Question: | What does semi-weighted mean? Does it feel like a real piano? Thank you |
Answer: | Hi Chris. I'm pretty sure M-Audio states "semi-weighted" so that people may THINK it feels more like a real piano. As an owner of a Chickering Baby-Grand piano AND an M-Audio Keystation 88 I can tell you they don't feel remotely the same. In a real piano you perceive "weight" of the key when you press but it is not particularly "heavy." It is my experience that "semi-weighted" means that the springs of the Keystation's keys are particularly strong. The "weight" you "feel" is just the additional "effort" you need to put in to press the keys (compared to cheap electronic-based keyboards like from Casio). The Keystation Keys, because they "push-back" against you do recover very quickly allowing for very fast playing-style (great for RagTime) and I actually think I have better control over the velocity of my notes for better intonation etc. Aside from the relatively notable "thumping" sound they keys make when you physically play the device (that YOU don't notice at all if you're wearing headphones or have your DAW playing out of an amp but it may be bothersome to someone else in the room when you have headphones and the other person is trying to read or watch TV) I actually really like the Keystation-88. But the "Semi-Weighted" description I equate way more to having a "tighter" feel than a "piano-like" one. It does NOT feel like my piano, but that does not mean the feel is "bad." The keys are full-size despite the unit having a relatively small footprint. I like the design, it functions very will with the DAW software I use on my Mac (Logic Pro X). Definitely an excellent device for the price (not to mention the free Sonivox-88 piano software which really does sound phenomenal)! There are other keyboards for 10x the price that really DO have keys that feel piano-like (because they are made of wood with plastic or ivory plates like a real piano rather than ALL-plastic), but why pay all that extra $$ when the Keystation does function well and (to me) does have an acceptable feel? If I had a choice of whether to buy a decent but bargain-priced keyboard again I would definitely recommend this one. I hope that helps with your decision, good luck! |
Question: | How do you connect this keyboard to sound? Can it be connected to a speaker or amp? Thank you |
Answer: | It cannot be connected to and external speaker without running it through a computer program. The keyboard is designed to be powered by the computer through the USB connection. The keyboard does not have any sounds programed into it. The board came with a lite computer program of Ableton live 8 for free, and it will automatically update it to a lite version of Ableton 9 for free when registered through Ableton's web sight. You can then connect the board to the computer and play. An external speaker system can then be connected through the computer. Im not an expert but this is what i know. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i use this pedal to map to different parameters in my daw? thank you |
Answer: | I also have energy 35 and the bow fits the case fine. The case is a little heavy but it work |
Question: | Does this pedal have tip connectivity or ring connectivity |
Answer: | Depending on your bow and how the quiver mounts to it, it can fit but may not. I have the five arrow tightspot on a bowtech reign 6. The case will close with the quiver attached but only if I remove two of the arrows and angle the bow. I usually take the quiver off rest it on the strings to secure and close the case. I've used all last year like that and never had any issues. I have been very pleased with the case. My favorite one I've ever had. |
Question: | Can i use this pedal for yamaha ypg 235 piano |
Answer: | I have a Bear Anarchy HD which is taller cam to cam. My draw length is 32" so I'm thinking most compound bows should fit. |
Question: | Can I use this as a MIDI toggle for the record button in Ableton |
Answer: | I can get it to hold my quiver without arrows in the quiver. |
