13 best guitar tuner clip ons
A guitar tuner clip-on is a small electronic device designed to help musicians tune their guitars accurately. Here are some key points about guitar tuner clip-ons:
Functionality: A clip-on tuner works by detecting the vibrations of the guitar's strings. It clips onto the headstock of the guitar and uses a vibration sensor to analyze the pitch of the strings.
Display: Clip-on tuners typically have a visual display that shows the pitch of each string. This can be represented as a needle that points to the correct pitch or as a digital readout.
Chromatic vs. Specific Tuning: Some clip-on tuners are chromatic, meaning they can tune to any note on the musical scale. Others are designed for specific tunings, such as standard tuning (E A D G B E) for guitars.
Accuracy: Clip-on tuners are generally very accurate in detecting the pitch of a string. They provide visual feedback to help the player adjust the tuning pegs until the string is in tune.
Ease of Use: They are easy to use and don't require any special skills or knowledge. Simply clip the tuner onto the headstock, pluck a string, and adjust the tuning peg until the tuner indicates the correct pitch.
Versatility: Clip-on tuners can be used with a variety of stringed instruments, including guitars, bass guitars, ukuleles, violins, and more. Some models have modes specifically designed for different instruments.
Battery Life: Clip-on tuners are typically battery-powered. They usually have long battery life and are energy-efficient, making them reliable tools for tuning on the go.
Visibility: Many clip-on tuners have backlit displays, which make them easy to read even in low-light environments, such as on stage during a performance.
Portability: Clip-on tuners are small and lightweight, making them easy to carry in a gig bag or guitar case. They're convenient for musicians who need to tune their instruments during rehearsals or performances.
Popular Brands: Some well-known brands that manufacture guitar tuner clip-ons include Snark, D'Addario, Korg, Peterson, and TC Electronic, among others.
Modes and Features: Some clip-on tuners come with additional features like alternate tuning modes, metronomes, and even built-in microphones for tuning in noisy environments.
Clip-on tuners are a crucial accessory for any guitarist or musician who wants to keep their instrument in tune. They are reliable, easy to use, and can be used in various settings, from practice sessions at home to live performances on stage.

User questions & answers
Question: | The last two sn-8s fell apart w/little use. both axis, on the clip and right under the tuner itself. have you done anything to improve the quality |
Answer: | I don’t really know. The stand is not as sturdy as what I needed and the shelf didn’t hold multiple items. I gave it away and ordered another heavy duty stand |
Question: | Is this a chromatic tuner. I want to tune all strings down a half step starting with the sixth string to E flat. Will this tuner do that |
Answer: | I assume you're asking about the included instrument holder. It's possible, but it seems like a viola might be a bit to heavy for it, so I haven't tried using it for anything larger than a soprano ukulele or 3/4 size violin, and it works fine for that. The stand I've been using for years for my viola is made by Ingles, and I recommend using that for heavier or more valuable instruments. |
Question: | Is this for All instruments? Im a trumpet player, and id like a clip on tuner to clip to my bell or the stand so i can always moniter my tuning |
Answer: | No. It will not hold a ukulele. I just received mine going to be able to do just that, but no, it will not. |
Question: | Does this tuner offer A |
Answer: | When pulled all the way up, it measures about 54 inches to the hinge on the back which connects to the platform. From there your height will be a bit lower as the base of the platform is lower. I would estimate about 52 inches as the maximum height measuring from the floor to the base of the platform. |

Question: | Will this work on electric guitars |
Answer: | Yes! |
Question: | Why is the black one $40 more expensive than the white one |
Answer: | Interesting question, and for sure, you aren't the first one to wonder about this. I got my BLACK TC poly tuner on sale at the big guitar store that's local to me, but all around - the one alluded to by DJ in the link he posted in answer to this very same question. I got it on sale for $38 and change. Could have gotten the white for the same price. That was about 2 years ago, and the prices have gone up and down. But other than the "sale" on or off, the prices haven't changed in those couple of years. Sometimes the sales are just a straight 15% off, so I would have paid a few dollars more if that was the case. Dumb luck got me another $4 off give or take. I realize this question was asked 3 years ago, but I'm pretty sure people today are asking the same thing - the black color doubles the price (almost)? I know my black car's paint cost extra, but it was for being metallic, not black. In fact, they have non-metallic in the make and model of my car in black for no extra cost. User questions & answers
Question: | How well does this work for a bass guitar? I've got a Snark that doesn't register well on my Fender Jazz bass |
Answer: | I wouldn't trust it to hold anything more than a couple of pounds. |
Question: | How can this work with any guitar case? It wouldn’t sit in there safely whatsoever. Very impractical |
Answer: | Sturdy enough to hold sheet music or an instruction book or tablet. |
Question: | Could i use this for intonation |
Answer: | No |
Question: | If I change the pitch to 432Hz, will it reset to 440Hz if I turn it off and back on |
Answer: | I use it for a Mandolin, so can't say for sure, but the width of the instrument's neck at the nut should be 1-1/8" or less, and the headstock should be wider than 1-1/8". If the neck fits in the opening OK you might need to suspend a dulcimer with the strings towards the stand because the top of the body behind the neck might interfere if you suspend it with strings facing out. The height of the instrument hanger is adjustable. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the battery life? How many hours/uses |
Answer: | Hello, Thank you for writing!Around 5-6 hours of use. After that, you can easily charge it with the usb cable that comes with the unit. Brian J. xGuitarx |
Question: | How to use the calibration? What number should I use in the cent setting (it goes 430-450)? What does 'cent' mean on the display? Short for 'percent |
Answer: | 440 is considered standard for guitar tuning (at least in the US). Although some songs require an alternate tuning. A 'cent' is 1% (0.01) of a semi tone. One semi tone is equal to one fret on the guitar, ie if you move up one semi tone, you move up one fret. Hope this helps. |
Question: | does it work well for ukulele |
Answer: | Hello Yes, it has an specific Ukulele mode "U" that you choose or you can use the Chromatic mode "C". Brian J. xGuitarx |
Question: | what is the difference with x5 or x |
Answer: | Not sure the difference. But I know the one I have is a simple device & it's great !. It's numbered so for basic people it tells you e string 1 , b string 2 ,etc .... it has guitar, chromo, bass, f#, &some other settings. I never take it off my guitar. I would say the x7 sounds like it may have additional options maybe ?. I love mine I don't think you can go wrong either way . But that's me. |

Question: | Will this tuner stay in the tuning I calibrate it to? E.g. if I set it to 432hz will it remain there each time it's turned off and on |
Answer: | Well, I just bought one and haven’t used it yet but it looks to me like you can tune anything with it. The device merely shows the frequency Of the notes it “hears”. You stilll have to “tune” the instrument to the proper frequency, which you can see on the device. |
Question: | Learning cello 1st position. need a device to show if I'm spot on. Quick response? Attach to bridge? Handles harmonics accurately |
Answer: | Yes, you can plug your electric guitar directly into this tuner without an amp and tune it. The input on the right side is used for this. |

Question: | Is this tuner safe for use with yamaha student guitars (cgs102a |
Answer: | The back slides downward. Place your thumbs on the raised arrows on each corner and push downward. This will expose the two AAA batteries. It's a little tight the first time you open it, You can wear rubber gloves if it hurts you thumbs. Don't give up! |
Question: | What is the difference between the snark sn1 and the snark sn1x |
Answer: | It should. When using it to tune my piano it didn't pick up the lowest octave, so if you're using a really low tuning you might look for a specific Bass tuner. If you plug into the tuner directly it should pick up any note you use though. |
Question: | Does the snark sn1x version work with other stringed instruments, such as ukuleles and cellos |
Answer: | No there was not an input cord included with the tuner. |
Question: | does this measure by vibration |
Answer: | It should tune a banjo. I have a tenor guitar which is tuned the same as a banjo, and the KLIQ works great on it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How well does this work for a bass guitar? I've got a Snark that doesn't register well on my Fender Jazz bass |
Answer: | No. I verified with the manufacturer it can only produce a single rhythm at a time. |
Question: | How can this work with any guitar case? It wouldn’t sit in there safely whatsoever. Very impractical |
Answer: | After you power the device on, press the mode button so you are in "Pitch" mode. I believe the default pitch you will get is an A at 440. You can use that pitch to tune your cello - just tune the A-string to that pitch. If it doesn't come up with a A, you can turn the wheel and as you do, it changes the pitch. You can turn it to each pitch of the 4 cellos strings, A, D, G & C. Just make sure you don't tune to a sharp or flat, just the straight pitch. |
Question: | Could i use this for intonation |
Answer: | If your question is related to operating power, it requires 2 AAA batteries. Without modification, there is no capability to apply external power. |
Question: | If I change the pitch to 432Hz, will it reset to 440Hz if I turn it off and back on |
Answer: | There is no fan. It is the same exact size as the SB6121/SB6141. Just that it is white. It runs luke warm, not really even hot. |
