User questions & answers
Question: | I just purchased a set of these etb92m's for my p bass. the blue thread winding came well beyond the nut on all 4 strings? just a fluke |
Answer: | It looks like you purchased the wrong scale strings. |
Question: | Can i put these on an acoustic bass |
Answer: | I use them on a Guild B30 acoustic bass guitar. Acoustically, they're not as loud as bronze round-wound strings, but if you're not playing unplugged and volume isn't an issue and you're not a fan of the twang, these are a nice mellow alternative. |
Question: | I have bass with a measurement of 39 1/2” from ball end to tuner on low E string. What length has a low E length taper that will work |
Answer: | The scale length is determined by the length of the string from saddle to nut. That is the measurement you need to determine the scale length you need. The most common scale for an electric bass is 34” from saddle to nut, which is called "long scale". "Extra long scale" is considered anything longer than 34”. There is also "medium scale", which is 30"-33”, and "short scale", which is 30” or less. The advantage of the ETB92 strings are, despite being called "long scale", they can comfortably handle a bass scale up to 36 1/4". |
Question: | The g string unwound after only two months of sparse use. the last strings i had lasted for two years. could i get a replacement g string |
Answer: | April - I am sorry to hear about your trouble. I have had the first set of these tapewounds on my Precision Bass for about 8 months and I play most every day (not that well - but I try) but I have not had problems with loose strings. I am wondering if there is something wrong with your G-string tuning key or perhaps the gears the tuning key connects with. Even on 6-string guitars I have never heard of your guitar's problem. It might not be the answer you want to hear but I do not think it is possible to buy only 1 string - especially these tapewounds (they are not very common). The first thing I would do is check to see if your bass is a long scale or short scale guitar - maybe you got the wrong strings given your instrument (I got short-scale strings for my P-Bass - go to an internet browser and type in your bass make as well as scale (I would type "Precision Bass + scale length" for my guitar). Buy a new set of tapewound wounds (all 4) and take your bass into a shop to have a tech look at your guitar. Ask them to not only look at that G string key and gears but to look at the whole guitar as well as to replace the strings and do a setup. They will check the intonation for you as well. This will cost you, I know, but you want to get your bass sounding best it can which will make you want to play it more. Incidentally - when I have work done on my bass I stay away from large stores but go to smaller independent music shops. I have had much better luck with owner-occupied music shops when it comes to instrument repair than taking it to larger stores which focus more on volume. Good Luck April! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will itfit a 54inch bass |
Answer: | Not really a big difference. The most common gauge is 45-65-85-105 (Custom Light). If you like a bit more stiffness in your G and D strings, go with Medium. If you like a little looser E and A, go with Light. If you don't care one way or the other, just go with Custom Light.Mind you, again, it's not a huge difference. It's subtle. I like my E and A a little softer so it's easier to dig in, so I buy Lights (45 65 80 100). |
Question: | The tuners are also 7 inches wide. We made a mistske, it is only 45 inches long. Will this fit |
Answer: | been using EXL-170 for years with drop B and D tuning 4 string - fender P bass no buzz super clear |
Question: | Will a headless guitar with a total length of 33" (inches) fit in the fender fems-610 mini version |
Answer: | If you want to avoid any bright tone, then consider taped, flat finish strings that are designed to reduce string and fret noise. Your pick ups and playing style will also affect your tone. These are middle of the road for nickel wound strings. |
Question: | Will this fit a short scale fender mustang bass |
Answer: | In my opinion they are good for a drop D |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these fit a fender mustang pj bass |
Answer: | If the holes for the tuning machines are in fact only .095, I would stick to short scale strings, since the longer E string will not thread through the tuner properly. I just looked up the specs to the Fender Mustang PJ bass on the Fender website, and it is in fact a 30" scale, so these (ECB81S) would be the most compatible strings. |
Question: | Am a long time 6 string picker. recently picked up the bass. are these any good for "slap" style funk? thanks, doug |
Answer: | Short answer: No. Flatwounds provide a warmer, more mellow sound. For slap, you typically want a brighter sound, which roundwounds would provide. |
Question: | Will they fit a new Fender mustang pj short scale |
Answer: | My bass is a 30" short scale (SX Jazz imitation) and the cloth/string wrap at the ends of the strings varies from 3/4" to 1" above the nut. If your scale is less then 30" you might have to peel some cloth string covering back. |
Question: | Will these fit Ibanez Mikro, 30" from string end to nut. 32-35" to turning peg |
Answer: | I believe thy will fit. From the bridge end of the strings to the tuner end Blue windings, they are about 32.3 inches. So if your "end of string to nut" is 32 inches, they should be about right. They sound nice and have virtually no finger zip noise. |
