14 best gretsch acoustic guitar pickups

Gretsch acoustic guitar pickups are specialized electronic components designed to capture the sound of acoustic guitars and convert it into an electrical signal that can be amplified. These pickups are commonly used in Gretsch acoustic guitars and are popular among musicians looking to amplify their acoustic guitar's sound. Here are some key points about Gretsch acoustic guitar pickups:

  1. Types of Pickups: Gretsch offers a range of pickup options for their acoustic guitars. Some of the most common types include:

    • Soundhole Pickups: These pickups are placed in the soundhole of the acoustic guitar and are often the most straightforward to install. They can capture the vibrations of the guitar strings and body, providing a balanced sound.

    • Under-Saddle Piezo Pickups: These pickups are installed underneath the guitar's saddle (the small piece that the strings pass over near the bridge). They detect the vibrations of the strings and saddle, producing a clear and bright tone.

    • Microphone Blending Systems: Some Gretsch acoustic guitars come equipped with built-in microphones in addition to pickups. These systems allow players to blend the sound of the pickup with the natural sound captured by the microphone for a more dynamic and authentic tone.

  2. Amplification: Gretsch acoustic guitar pickups are designed to work with amplifiers and sound systems, allowing players to project their acoustic guitar's sound to a larger audience in live performance settings.

  3. Installation: Depending on the type of pickup, installation can vary in complexity. Soundhole pickups are generally easy to install and remove, while under-saddle piezo pickups may require professional installation. Some Gretsch acoustic guitars come factory-equipped with pickups for added convenience.

  4. Tone Control: Many Gretsch acoustic guitar pickups come with onboard tone controls, which allow players to adjust the EQ (equalization) of their amplified sound. This feature enables fine-tuning of the tone to suit different musical styles and preferences.

  5. Feedback Resistance: Some Gretsch pickups are designed with feedback resistance in mind. This is especially important when playing at high volumes, as it helps reduce the occurrence of unwanted feedback or squealing sounds.

  6. Output Options: Gretsch pickups typically have standard output jacks, making them compatible with a wide range of amplifiers and audio equipment.

  7. Sound Quality: The quality of sound produced by Gretsch acoustic guitar pickups is often praised for its clarity and accuracy in reproducing the natural tone of the guitar.

  8. Compatibility: It's important to ensure that the Gretsch acoustic guitar pickup you choose is compatible with your specific guitar model. Some pickups may be designed for particular Gretsch guitar models or may require specific routing for installation.

Gretsch acoustic guitar pickups are a popular choice among musicians who want to amplify their acoustic sound without sacrificing tone quality. They offer a range of options to suit different playing styles and preferences, making them a valuable component of electric-acoustic guitar setups.

User questions & answers

Question: How wide is the neck at the nut? I have short fingers and I need a narrow necked 12 string
Answer: I don’t think you’ll have an issue with it. It is narrower than some others that i have. 12 string ovation round back, a Taylor and Yamaha. I enjoy playing the Gretsch as it has a good sound and easy to tune with the built in tuner. By the way I have short fingers as well.
Question: Is it already tuned
Answer: They are factory tuned, but in some circumstances changes and variations in weather can cause slight on tuning of the guitars. A simple nine dollar Korg tuner can help you to keep the item in tune.
Question: what are the body specs, upper, lower bout, length, depth and what cases will work
Answer: The overall length is 43". Lower bout 17", upper 12 1/2", Body length 21", body depth 4 3/4". A Jumbo case will fit. Roxy Music has jumbo guitar cases from $99.00
Question: What is the radius
Answer: Widest is 17 inches. Depth is 5 inches. Length is a whopping 43.5 inches. If your looking for a case, the (crazy expensive) case Gretsch sent me specifically for this guitar BARELY accommodated the length and width. It’s gonna be hard to find a case big enough.

User questions & answers

Question: How would you put a guitar strap on it
Answer: I don’t think you can, as this guitar seems meant to be played in a seated position. You might have to look for something else unless you are willing to risk drilling holes in it for strap locks. That being said, I absolutely love this guitar and am so happy with its quality, look and sound.
Question: Volume - tone controls on it? Can’t see them
Answer: No there's not a volume or tone control.
Question: Is it a tricone
Answer: No, it is a single spider cone. It is, however, a lot of fun.
Question: Are the photos of the actual guitar you have for sale
Answer: Yes, it is a nice dark finish with a slight sunburst. The picture on Amazon appears a little darker than the guitar in person. The Boxcar model does not have the darker finish (or the electronic pickup).

K&K Pure Mini Acoustic Guitar Pickup

K&K Sound

Based on 674 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The Pure Mini is a transducer-only system. No battery, no onboard electronics, just the pure pickups. Don't be fooled by the sound of some competitors' "thin sounding" passive systems. The Pure Systems are definitely different. They sound full and rich and have sufficient output to drive most amps and PA systems directly, without a preamp! Advantages of the Pure Guitar System The special Pure surface transducers transmit a significant portion of the soundboard because they are not as close to the strings as an under-saddle pickup. Each of the 3 transducers is designed to pick up a specific string pair, but also "listens" to the adjacent area around the bridge. The Pure pickups are not under pressure and therefore do NOT sound percussive or harsh. The Pure System reproduces all strings nicely balanced, a known problem with under-saddle pickups. The Pure System sounds great just in passive mode! Unlike under-saddle pickups which passively can sound thin and trebley, the passive PURE system puts out a nicely balanced, warm, full range signal. Feedback Resistance How safe is the Pure System with feedback? Due to the Pure System's location on the bridge plate under the bridge, feedback resistance is comparable to under-saddle transducers. Technically, a pickup installed in or on the bridge is a lot less likely to feedback than one which is attached to the open sound board. The 1/8" thin sound board can act like a diaphragm and vibrate along with loud sound-signals from speaker cabinets. This is the kind of feedback you experience on an acoustic guitar. The thicker bridge area is a lot harder to be set into vibration from an outside source simply because of its mass. In our tests with both, steel string and classic guitars equipped with an under-saddle pickup plus the Pure System, we were able to achieve about the same gain-before-feedback with both systems.

  • Three Transducer Pickup System for Steel String Guitars
  • Includes 1/4" Endpin Jack
  • Pre-wired, No Soldering Required
  • High Output - No Battery Required!

User questions & answers

Question: Would this work on a three string mountain dulcimer
Answer: If you are building a fulcimer, I think so, otherwise I don't know how you would install it. They are mounted under the bridge plate ( superglued). UNLESS you are building the instrument, I don't know how you would install it. You also have to drill the jack mount to the end of the dulcimer. I own a 4 string dulcimer and there is no way to install.
Question: I removed a k&k, one of the super glued heads was ruined. can i get good response with 2 heads only? maybe on a small guitar of uke
Answer: You still should get sound. I am not sure how good it will be. I have not had any experience with this.
Question: Is this a good option for a big guitar such as a Martin HD28V? I am under the impression that this is for smaller guitars
Answer: No, it will work fine in your HD28V - I put one in an HD28 and it sounded great. The mini captures the true essence of your guitar and every one I've installed (mostly in my own guitars), has sounded full and balanced.
Question: How do you install this
Answer: It is installed by applying superglue to the pick ups and gluein them to the bridge plate inside the guitar. It comes with a set up jig and some putty to make sure everything is aligned properly. An average do it yourselfer should be able to accomplish this project, but a luthier would probably do it for around $50. They do sound great by the way in my custom 28.

User questions & answers

Question: I am concerned about which seller i get this from. safe haven has 100% neg reviews for this. can anyone offer some info about this? ty
Answer: I bought mine from "Chicago Music Exchange", and everything was great. I just looked, and they are still an available seller at the same price. It shipped quickly and was packaged extremely well, making it all the way here in Boston fine. It was double boxed -- the factory Gretsch box was placed within a CME shipping box, with its own layer of bubble wrap protection. They are also responsive, answering a post-purchase question very quickly.
Question: can you send a pic of the damage and is it cosmetic or structural
Answer: Hello, This is a brand new guitar with no damage at all. New in the box. I can take a phot of the guitar tomorrow
Question: Does the G2655T junior imperial stain come without the vibrato tailpiece
Answer: Not imperial stain. The closest you'll get is Single Barrel Stain. Or a brand new for 2020 model (coming out in March 2020) is village Amber.
Question: Can I get this in white
Answer: This exact model doesn't come in white. Check out a 5655T or 5422TG, different body shapes but both great guitars and they come in white.
