14 best 12 string capos

A 12-string capo is a handy accessory for guitarists who play a 12-string guitar. Just like a regular capo, its primary function is to raise the pitch of the strings by clamping down on them at a specific fret. However, the design is adapted to accommodate the extra strings on a 12-string guitar.

The challenge with regular capos on 12-string guitars is that they might not exert enough pressure on all the strings evenly due to the extra set. A 12-string capo is designed to provide consistent pressure across all 12 strings, ensuring a clear and balanced sound.

When choosing a 12-string capo, it's essential to consider factors like material, ease of use, and the ability to apply even pressure. Some models are specifically designed for certain neck shapes or guitar types, so it's worth exploring options that suit your instrument.

Using a capo on a 12-string guitar can open up new possibilities for playing different keys and exploring unique tonalities. It's a versatile tool that many guitarists find indispensable in their toolkit.

Nux Brownie Mini Core Vintage British Distortion Guitar Pedal

Shopping for a British distortion pedal? Try NUX Brownie!

Classical British rock tones of 1970’s are packed into this little box.

How it works?

By using a hybrid of circuits, we create preamp and power tube distortion characteristics. You’ll be amazed to hear the warm and organic tone reproduced by it.

A special designed BJT input stage makes this distortion pedal breakup in a way when the preamp tube starts to distort. Also, Brownie has an asymmetrical clipping circuit with which you can simulate some of the characteristics of a tube amplifier. It can also keep the bottom tight by processing bass frequencies from getting muddy when they are distorted.

NUX Brownie uses a low-pass tone control filter to simulate the Variac effect (lower the voltage going into the amplifier) for rounding of your tone. The range of tone is controlled yet very useful in dialing the high end response.

The power clipping circuit is crafted from modern low noise op-amp and two red LED. It can create symmetrical clipping that distort both half of the signal and keep the sound smooth. True bypass circuits with a high quality TPDP mechanical foot switch makes the bypass signal clarity.

Precisely machined of brass and carefully hand assembled, a Shubb capo is manufactured without compromise. Simply holding one in your hand conveys a sense of quality. Snapping it solidly onto a guitar neck, and then removing it, all within about one second, will confirm its reputation for excellence. What makes the Shubb capo so special? User questions & answers

Question: I have an epiphone dr 212 12 string. it has a very fat neck. anyone know if this will be a good fit
Answer: Hello Twang. I use it on my Breedlove 2012 J350/EFe 12 with no issues. It has a standard 12 String Acoustic style and width neck. If you have issues Shubb is Great to help and answer questions. BTW the instructions for use are printed on the Inside of the package. It took a little experimenting but all is good. I own 4 of them and I use them on All my electric and acoustic 6 / 12's If not, Amazon will take care of you, they are the absolute best...
Question: Would it work on a classical guitar (wide neck
Answer: This model (#3) works very well on my Seagull 12-string, which has a 1.93" wide nut. According to the Shubb website, the #3 will fit up to a 2.25" wide RADIUSED fretboard. The #2 model is intended for classical guitars--it is designed to handle up to a 2.25" wide FLAT fretboard as is commonly used on classical guitars. Hope this helps...
Question: How well does this work on a 6-string with a wide neck
Answer: I have a six string Martin D-28SW with an almost 2 inch wide neck. The Shubb Deluxe Series GC-30T (S3) capo for 12 string guitar is perfect for the application. I lost the one I had before and did not hesitate to replace it with the exact same model.
Question: I have an ovation ultra 12 string electric acoustic guitar. As you sight down the neck, it is slightly convex.. will this capo work for this guitar
Answer: 12 strings are a challenge for capos. I too have and accustic/electric Ovation 12 string. The capo is OK but I still decided to tune it down to D just to make it a little easier to chord/bar chord. The capo should be OK....much different than the normal 6 string capo. Good luck!

User questions & answers

Question: How's it go on 12 string electric guitars
Answer: 12-string electric and acoustic guitars are the same in this respect. The capo is placed UNDER the neck, locked down, and then adjusted as necessary for string clarity.
Question: Will this fit a 2" wide nut and a radiused (24") fingerboard? Thanks
Answer: I use it on a Seagull 12 string with a 1.93 inch wide nut but I am not see shat the radius is.
Question: The screw came out and wont go back in. Shubb will not respond to email. Is there a warranty
Answer: Any warranty would depend on how long you’ve owned it to begin with. I own several of these capos with no issues to report, but. Initially my capo would not depress all 12 strings to my satisfaction. I contacted a customer service agent, Ruben was his name. He helped me resolve all issues to my 100% satisfaction. Try asking for him maybe. Or Look up a phone # to try.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work for a 12 string with a flat fingerboard
Answer: Worked great for me on my Taylor 455ce I'm not sure that fingerboard is absolutely flat, but I believe the black rubbery piece, that contacts the strings, has enough give and take to compress the strings on both flat AND curved fingerboards. One more point: I believe Amazon allows the return of just about anything, as long as you don't wait too long to return it.
Question: What’s the difference between this gc-30t deluxe 12 string guitar capo and the Shubb capo S3 for 12 string for about $5 less on Amazon
Answer: Stainless is solid , nickle plated will eventually wear off and if the base metal is regular steel - for the extra two dollars Id go with the Stainless steel -another thing to consider is the 12 string works great with a standard 6 string as well - because its a little bit longer its easy to use on a six string - i only buy 12 string capos for that reason .
Question: Is this an optimal solution for classical nylon radiused fretboard
Answer: Although I don't have a classical guitar, the Shubb Deluxe Series GC-30T (S3) Capo is probably NOT the best choice for your classical guitar. A better choice would be the Shubb Deluxe Series GC-30C (S2) Classical Guitar Capo - Stainless Steel. The GC-30C is designed for the flatter radius of a classical guitar's neck. That said, I have an arsenal of guitar capos (6-string and 12-string) and depending on the string gauge I'm using on the guitars, and the individual guitar, some capos work better than others. I'd recommend trying the Shubb Deluxe Series GC-30C (S2) Classical Guitar Capo. Being able to adjust the tension on the capo, along with the flatter radius of classical guitar necks, should work well. If this capo doesn't work, try other brands of classical guitar capos until you find one that suits your needs. Good luck.
Question: On what nut width does this capo work well
Answer: The only 12 string guitar I have is 1 7/8" at the nut. The capo works fine on that guitar. It seems like there is enough bar for another 1/8". Regardless of nut width, you will need to adjust the thumb screw for the thickness of your neck to get a proper fit. It is easy to adjust, but if too loose and it won't work. Too tight and you won't be able to close the clamp. It is a very nice capo and works well, but a little harder to change fret position compared to the quick connect types. However, sometimes you have to reposition the quick connect types several times to get a good fit. I hope that helps.

User questions & answers

Question: So only the universal one works for electrics? Please do a much better job of explaining
Answer: The Wingo capo seems to work very well with all my 6 string acoustic and electric guitars with standard neck width of 1 11/16 at the nut. It would probably work with up to 1 3/4 nut width too. A classical guitars neck is somewhere closer to 2". BTW, it did not work on my 12 string with a 1 3/4 nut. I went with a Shubb and it worked great. I do like and recommend the Wingo. I hate the capos that are Huge spring things. Ugly and ackward, but easier to move or mount. So Each to His Own. Hope this helps."Keep on Playing!"
Question: Will this fit on a 6-string bass
Answer: I don't have a 6 string bass. My guitar is 1 and 3/4 " at the 2nd fret and there is a 1/4 " of the capo hanging off the fret board. The capo is excellent. I have had it for a couple years and use it almost every day. It started feeling sticky one time .I sprayed a little wd40. It is like new. May buy another one to replace a different brand ( planet waves) I also have ,cause it's wore out and there's nothing to make it work better . Amen !!!
Question: Which type would be best for an acoustic 6 string guitar with a modified V neck profile? The longer, flat arm or the shorter, curved one
Answer: My daughter has a 6 string acoustic guitar v neck profile, she likes this capo better than what her instructor has. He actually bought the same one and likes it as well.
Question: Anyone try it on the ukulele
Answer: No I haven't. It looks to big for a ukulele, but you can always order it and find out. It may be best to go out to a store where you can try it out instead of online :)

User questions & answers

Question: How does this fare on a regular 6 string guitar
Answer: As others have responded, it works great with both 6 and 12-string guitars. In fact, I see no reason to buy the 6-string version because this works perfectly with 6 and 12-string guitars. I use it on both. I disagree with the person who said the 6- string version works better on 6-string guitars.
Question: What's the difference between the schuub original 12 string capo and the deluxe shuub 12 string capo
Answer: Originally, the Shubb Original 12 string capo came with the black plastic-tipped adjusting screw as shown. The Deluxe model had a rolling wheel instead of the black plastic screw. Then I think Shubb changed the Original so that it also has the wheel, and I believe the Original is made overseas while the Deluxe has always been made in the USA.

User questions & answers

Question: does this work on a left handed guitar too
Answer: Hi Thank you for being interested in this strap. It is a cotton guitar strap. Genuine Leather Ends & comfortable Strap suitable for electric ,acoustic guitars, bass. Hoping you like it !
Question: These capos are wide. I want a quick change capo for my banjo and small neck 6 string guitar without the extra width hanging down in the way. Help
Answer: No. Good strap but no guitar locks. Comes with what the picture shows.
Question: Can these be used as partial capos, as in the bottom four or top five (Drop D simulation
Answer: Yes, the rubber washers safety locks are included in the package.
Question: Do these work well with 12 string guitars
Answer: The two black washers shown in the picture are actually rubber and serve as 'strap locks' and they work well when applicable. However, the strap end material is so thick that there is not enough room on strap button of my guitar for both strap and lock. That said, that thick strap end isn't going anywhere (unless you're thinking of doing some acrobatics?) ! The woven edge of the strap is more comfortable than vinyl or leather where it rubs against your neck when you're not wearing a collar.
