10 best 8 guitar speaker

An 8" guitar speaker is a specific type of speaker designed for use in guitar amplifiers. Here's what you need to know about it:

  1. Size: The "8" in 8" guitar speaker refers to its diameter. These speakers are typically 8 inches in size. Speaker size can significantly impact the tone and characteristics of the sound produced by a guitar amplifier.

  2. Tone and Character: 8" guitar speakers are known for their distinct tone and character. They often produce a warmer and smoother sound compared to larger speakers. This makes them suitable for genres of music that require a vintage or bluesy tone.

  3. Amplifier Compatibility: Not all guitar amplifiers can accommodate an 8" speaker. Before purchasing one, it's crucial to check whether your amplifier is compatible with this speaker size in terms of physical fit and power requirements.

  4. Power Handling: Each speaker has a specified power handling capacity measured in watts (W). It's essential to match the speaker's power handling capabilities with your amplifier's output power to avoid damaging the speaker.

  5. Speaker Cone and Materials: The construction of the speaker cone and its materials can influence the overall sound quality. Different speaker cones, such as paper, ceramic, or aluminum, can produce distinct tonal characteristics.

  6. Speaker Impedance: Guitar speakers typically have specific impedance ratings, commonly 4, 8, or 16 ohms. Ensure that the speaker's impedance matches the impedance rating of your amplifier or cabinet for proper functionality.

  7. Speaker Brand and Models: There are various brands and models of 8" guitar speakers available, each with its unique tonal qualities and characteristics. Some well-known manufacturers include Celestion, Eminence, and Jensen, among others.

  8. Speaker Replacement and Upgrades: Many guitarists choose to replace or upgrade their amplifier speakers to achieve a particular tone or improve the overall sound quality of their setup. Swapping out the stock speaker for an 8" model can be a cost-effective way to customize your sound.

  9. Speaker Cabinets: 8" guitar speakers are commonly found in smaller amplifier combos and speaker cabinets. The choice of speaker cabinet can also influence the overall sound, so it's essential to consider the cabinet's design and speaker configuration.

  10. Tonal Preferences: The choice of an 8" speaker ultimately depends on your tonal preferences and the style of music you play. If you're looking for a vintage or bluesy sound, an 8" speaker may be a great choice. However, if you require more volume and a broader frequency response, larger speakers may be more suitable.

In summary, an 8" guitar speaker is a component commonly used in guitar amplifiers, known for its warm and vintage tone. When selecting one, consider compatibility with your amplifier, power handling, and the specific tonal characteristics you desire for your music.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this be good for a Roland Cube 20GX
Answer: I don't know the Roland Cube specs, it worked just fine in my blackstar HT-1.
Question: How would this speaker change the clean tones in a 1978 silver face fender champ? i want the champ to remain chimey, like a fender should be
Answer: As is should. Bought this to put in a mojotone kit. Made it sound too British IMHO. Should have gotten the 4ohm. It is better matched to the amp which specs out a 3.2 ohm speaker. Considering a few alternatives. There is an MOJOTONE AMERICAN VINTAGE AV8C 8" SPEAKER 4 OHM 15W that I am considering. Weber makes a 3.2 ohm I believe. If you get the celestian get the 4 ohm.
Question: Is the speaker supposed to come with paperwork? I just received my pakage and it looks as if it may be an open box item
Answer: I had no paperwork. You hook up positive to + and negative to - Thats all there is to it. Dont over tighten the 4 screws that hold the speaker in place... can damage the cone.
Question: Just grabbed a peavey royal 8...is this a good choice over stock speaker? or better of jensen mod
Answer: Couldn’t find any thing on the (special) 8” Peavey speaker, it all comes down to a matter of taste, and price! Jensen is very proud of their speakers and are priced to match, but does that equate to a better sound? I am sold on the Celestion contender, it sounds amazing and can’t be beat for under $50!

User questions & answers

Question: So, with post holes relocated, does this fit into a Tweed Fender Champ, not hitting transformers / chassis
Answer: Ok, I think I know your delema. I just installed this speaker into a Marshall DSL-20. Not much room to work with. I replaced the tubes as well. I found that taking the speaker out carefully works and the patriot should go back in very nicely since there are eight holes. If you're replacing tubes as well, put them in first. When I put the speaker in there was barely enough room to fit a piece of paper pad cardboard between the tube and speaker. Good luck I hope this helps. Oh, and video and take pics of your work as you do it. That helped me alot
Question: Will the 6” speaker work in a roland cube street, specs on the cube street speakers says
Answer: Yes, it will, but make sure you get the same impedance as the 6.5" in the Roland - is it 4 ohm or 8 ohm? Jeff Trax Audio
Question: Will this eminence patriot 620h 6" / 4 ohm guitar speaker work in a roland jc 22 amplifier (which comes with a pair of 4 ohm / 6" speakers
Answer: These are actually 6.5" in diameter - so if the Roland is also a 6.5",then it would work. JEff Trax AUdio

About the Founder

In 1966, Bob Gault founded what was to become the world’s largest loudspeaker manufacturing company after working as an engineer for Magnavox and CTS (Chicago Telephone Supply). Ironically, Gault started Eminence hoping to maintain three 18" speakers per day, based on a commitment from Ampeg’s Everett Hull. Under the leadership of Gault and most recently his son, Rob, the company’s capacity grew to over 10,000 speakers per day, employing over 240 people by 1997.

Gault was the president of Eminence from the company’s inception until 1992. He officially retired in 1993, but continued to make valuable contributions to the company. Gault passed away on October 4, 2002. He is greatly missed by his family, the music industry, and the Eminence community.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the G12M Heritage made in England or China
Answer: Thank you for contacting Parts Express. The product is made in England. Sincerely, Customer Service Team
Question: where do you place this speaker, in what amp case or how does it work
Answer: This is a 12" speaker designed to be mounted in a speaker enclosure or combo amplifier.
Question: Will this speaker fit a Fender Frontman 15g
Answer: Don’t know as I put in in a Princeton 65. I would assume it will fit the same opening and enclosure as long as it is the same size speaker. This did have a heavier magnet, slightly larger than the one I replaced so had to take the top and sides apart to get it in
Question: Would the 8 ohm work in the bugera v5, or should i get the 4 ohm
Answer: if the amp requires 4 ohm then you should get a 4 ohm speaker. If it has an 8 ohm setting then yeah you could use it but it will give you half the volume.
Question: Would a 8 ohm work to replace a 25 ohm speaker
Answer: Donald, 25 ohm speakers are usually used in lo-fi, small-form applications (transistor radio, older-style headphones, etc). Can you elaborate on the application or type of speaker you are attempting to replace? This Jensen speaker is ideal for small guitar-amp utilizations.
Question: Is there a polarity concern in replacing a speaker
Answer: I used this to replace the speaker in my Bugera V 5 guitar amp and was pleased with the result. As far as I know polarity in speakers is simply a matter of hooking up the wires correctly. Positive and negative terminals.

Celestion Greenback Range

As the blues gave birth to hard rock, Celestion Greenbacks proved to be the right tone at the right time. Offering a higher power rating than Alnico speakers, the G12M and G12H with its ceramic magnet and responsive feel was a perfect complement to players who were driving their amps harder and harder. The speakers that gave us Clapton’s ‘Bluesbreaker’ tone on All Your Love and the sonic bombast of Hendrix’s Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock, remain the benchmark by which all others are measured.

User questions & answers

Question: Where are the creamback speakers made
Answer: The Celestion boxes speakers shipped in are printed, MADE IN UK.
Question: Would this speaker pair well with a Celestion Vintage 30 in a 2x
Answer: Not sure what you mean by "pair well". The sensitivity of the V30 is 100 db vs. the 97db for the Creamback. This means the V30 will be much louder in the same cab. As far as mixing tones that would be a subjective decision and you should search sources on the internet including the Celestion site for more insight.
Question: Would this be a good speaker for my 1986 Marshall 4203 30 watt amplifier
Answer: If it's a bright sounding amp you want to warm up a bit, I do believe you will like this speaker.
Question: Hey i was wondering, if i put this amp in my blues jr 3 which i have cannabis rex in right now. would it be cleaner and louder
Answer: The G12M-65 Creamback™ has a 97dB Sensitivity rating (quiet) and is designed to breakup. The Cannabis Rex™ has a 101.8dB Sensitivity rating (loud) and is designed for cleans. If you want more volume and cleans this is not the right speaker for you. This speaker is designed for warm vintage crunchy tones and is relatively quiet.

Product features

Celestion Creamback Range

The ever-popular Greenback is the undisputed reference point for sweet, harmonically rich tone and also for the way in which the output of an amplifier should be articulated as it tips from clean to crunch and through to fully-saturated overdrive. But what if you need Greenback sonics and response with more than 30-Watts power handling? Enter the Creambacks.

Neodymium

Every ounce a Classic Celestion, the Neo Creamback delivers all the magical tone you’d get from a conventional Creamback at around half the weight of a traditional speaker, thanks to its Neodymium magnet. Expect the same low end punch, warm, vocal midrange and sweet highs that made the Creamback famous: push it hard and enjoy the ‘race-car growl’ that sets pulses racing.

User questions & answers

Question: I have a musicman 112 RP 100 watt tube amp. will this speaker work
Answer: you can run even lower wattage. You will be fine. I have that and a different eminence on top of a speaker cab that puts out 60. Remember that an amp only draws the power it can (I run my amps on a 240 circuit). EE is a b**ch to truly understand and you will get many response, but I can safely say you are perfectly fine running that speaker. its also 8ohms. If you run in a 4x4, just remember if you want to run them in parallel or in series, which dramatically changes the ohms required.
