Answer:	Passive. Just a means to direct signal from multiple components to power amp. The remote works good. The volume knob is not motorized. In fact you can turn it all the way around; there are no stops. Volume display goes from zero to 100. I'm using two 300W amps in bridge mono and I really can't hear anything until around 40. It's doesn't get really loud until about 70 on my system, so it my be cutting some signal rather than just passing through. I never experimented with by-passing it to see. Sound at the speaker is very good and crisp. I'd say it's worth the money.
