User questions & answers
Question: | Is it for beginners |
Answer: | With a new mouthpiece and a good reed, it actually sounds very good, and can be used on stage.Out of all the saxes I've purchased, this one equals the sound quality of a Taiwanese sax! (level up from standard Chinese saxes), and can sound better than saxes two or three times it's price.I think it's for intermediates, studio and live; or a nice sax for pro's who need a backup sax, or one that's cheap, or great for looks.Doesn't sound like a $2k sax, but I'd say it does come close to a $800-1200 sax.Reason this is cheap, is because there are no replacement parts, and no one really can fix these in case there are missing pieces. |
Question: | Is this the same sax they use in school band? my daughter is joining and i'd like to know so i don't have to pay the schools high costs |
Answer: | Talk to the band director. Usually they can help you find a good sax that you can afford. |
Question: | Will I need a new mouthpiece, reeds, and neck strap because most of the reviews say they are bad |
Answer: | No. The one that comes with it, is okay for rehearsals and practice. You will want a new mouthpiece if you want it to sound louder and nicer, and a new neoprene neck strap for comfort.I use a Legere reed, which sounds really nice, and a $30 chinese metal mouthpiece. I'm really happy with the sound and the ease of playing. The provided mouthpiece is a little quiet for band play. You can use the strap for longer periods of time, if you have a cushioning between your neck and the strap (like a little towel, or high collar on your shirt) |
Question: | Can anyone post this sax on youtube so we can hear sound quality before i buy it |
Answer: | What did you think of sound quality? I’m looking for a saxophone for my husband who hasn’t played since middle school. Don’t want to spend too much in case he doesn’t really get into it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is the sound quality good |
Answer: | Yes it is.my son sounds really good and he is beginner. |
Question: | what is the weight of the saxophone with the bag |
Answer: | sorry it took me long to answer it is about 10 to 15 pounds, its really light. I used to ride my bike, run, walk for 30 minutes to my practice sections and it wasn't heavy. Now the regular saxophone strap is for masochist, so just buy a neotech strap. |
Question: | i am an adult looking to purchase this saxophone. does any adults have experience playing and living this instrument |
Answer: | I recently bought this saxophone I'm 41 years old and a professional musician While there are better saxophones our there (including with a 10x price tag!) this saxophone is an excellent investment. The saxophone is a little full-bodies for me but aside from that it's wonderful. The only problem I have with this saxophone is the right hand palm keys are a little too far back for me. I have to completely readjust my hand every time I need to use tge palm keys to do a flutter or trill. Another problem is the left hand palm keys are quite sharp and dig into my hand at times when I use them. A word about the tone...it's very dark and full-bodied which for me is a problem as I prefer my alto to sing with fire and brilliance by the bucket load! I switch between an ARB metal 6 and a Vandoren Jumbo Java A45. While the time I get is nice I still don't get the bright tone or edginess that I get on my 1940s Evette Schaeffer. It's a wonderful saxophone for the money and should last for years to carry anyone well into their professional career (if that's what you're after). |
Question: | Does it sound the same as a Yamaha saxophone or worst |
Answer: | The Yamaha YAS 61 was supposed to be Yamaha`s first professional model saxophone. In my opinion the Yamaha YAS 61 sounds brighter and louder, but that`s with the Bamber jazz mouthpiece. That will make a difference. The Mendini was not far behind the Yamaha YAS 61 in sound though. I give the Yamaha YAS 61 a grade A for sound quality, and the Mendini Alto Saxophone a grade B to B+ for sound quality. Switching to a jazz mouthpiece on the Mendini does make it sound brighter. I like Lavoz reeds too. I have not found the most ideal mouthpiece just yet for the Mendini Sax. I haven`t had it long enough to know. Bamber mouthpieces are not for sale anymore, that is I can`t find them on the internet. Metalite M 5 is inexpensive on amazon.com and will make the Mendini Alto Saxophone louder. It will be short shank so will fit on the cork further out than the mouthpiece that comes with the saxophone. E. Rousseau JDX 6 is another jazz mouthpiece for a little more money. Right now I have been practicing with the mouthpiece that came with the Mendini saxophone with a Lavoz reed. Maybe a homemade metal piece inserted in the mouthpiece will make this mouthpiece play brighter. I think it has a fairly good tone quality with the Mendini mouthpiece. The Mendini alto saxophone has it`s own signature sound as other saxophones have as well. The Mendini alto saxophone is a little quieter and slightly less bright than the Yamaha, and not necessarily worse. Some saxophonist don`t always want that bright of a sound. I do though. Hope that answers your question ? If you want to ask more questions please send another request. I`ll try to help |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this sax for everyone including adults |
Answer: | Yes this standard size saxophone and good for adults and kids. |
Question: | Where is made in, what country |
Answer: | Russia |
Question: | is it good for intermediate /pro |
Answer: | If I am an intermediate/pro, I wouldn't buy this one. But it sounds pretty decent. |
Question: | Is the item durable |
Answer: | For what it's worth, we had a baritone (euphonium) from this company that served us well for two years. However, the alto sax in question did not work well for us (trouble with the octave key) and we therefore had to return it. Since we had the alto sax for less than three weeks, I can't tell you about the long-term durability but it did seem pretty sturdy over the period that we did have it. |

Question: | Why is it 8 pounds, aren't most tenors around |
Answer: | Mine is 10 pounds. I don't know why it isn't heavier. It feels plenty solid in my hands, and when it's hanging around my neck, it sure feels heavier than 10 pounds. I think the lighter weight can only be a good thing. |

Answer: | It comes in a soft sided zip up case. I bought the mouthpiece and neck strap separately |
Question: | What saxophones are made in the USA |

We already make a great Conn 12M neck, and this neck works like a charm for anyone who plays their vintage horn with vintage mouthpieces. However, Conn 12M players who prefer modern mouthpieces are well aware of the troubles of that combination: sharp intonation or mouthpieces that wobble just at the edge of the neck with no stability. Traditional neck extensions can leave you with flat palm keys. Traditional mouthpiece extensions make it so that you can't switch the mouthpiece over to a modern horn, and you need extensions on all of your mouthpieces. Curt Created the 12.5M neck especially for players who use modern jazz mouthpieces, which have shorter shanks than their early predecessors. This neck is longer with an adjusted taper to offer the best possible intonation and huge tone with premium mouthpiece stability. This is the pet project of a lifetime Conn 12M player, and there has never been a more sublime neck upgrade than the 12.5M. You're simply going to love it. Available in a variety of finishes. There may be a 1-5 week waiting period depending on availability.

Horn was made in 1970 in Mexico after Conn’s owners shut down their Elkhart, Indiana plant. These horns were surprisingly well made with “borrowed” features from more expensive horns:
- Screw-on large key protectors, which were easier to fix than rigid soldered-on key protectors if the horn were dropped
- Pro-style octave key for quicker, smoother register shifts
- "Starburst" engraving on bell

Question: | exterior dimensions of case |
Answer: | Hello Christopher,Thanks for the question through Amazon in regards to the Conn-Selmer 50745 Universal Tenor Sax Case. The exterior dimensions are as follows: 32.5" x 13" x 8.75" (L x W x H). These dimensions are if the case is sitting on its bottom (ready to be opened and the instrument put inside). I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you have any questions! Thanks Christopher!Mike Kolb, Sales Rep.Taylor Music |
Question: | I believe my daughter has a buesher aristocrat series - bell keys on the opposite side. we haven't found a case it will fit in. will this case work |
Answer: | We actually have a used Buescher Aristocrat Tenor Sax at our store (bell keys on the left side of the instrument) and it fits perfectly in this case. This case should definitely work for your instrument. Thanks, Mike Kolb Taylor Music |
Question: | Does it have a separate compartment for the neck and mouthpiece |
Answer: | There is a separate compartment / slot for the neck, but not a separate compartment / slot just for the mouthpiece. This case does have a larger compartment to put other accessories (neckstrap, cleaning supplies, reeds) that the mouthpiece can go into. Since other items would be in this compartment / slot with the mouthpiece, we recommend using a mouthpiece cap. |
