13 best boss electronic drum sets

Boss, a well-known brand in the music equipment industry, is primarily recognized for its guitar effects pedals and other audio gear. However, Boss did not produce electronic drum sets or drum machines as part of its product lineup. Instead, their focus was on effects pedals, amplifiers, and related guitar and bass equipment.

If Boss has expanded its product offerings to include electronic drum sets or drum machines since then, we would recommend visiting the official Boss website or contacting a music equipment retailer for the most up-to-date information on their product range.

Below you can find our editor's choice of the best boss electronic drum sets on the market

User questions & answers

Question: What are the dimentions of the kit from left to right? I realize that it is ajustable, however,I would an idea how wide of an area it takes up Thanks
Answer: Drumsticks in ALMOST all cases are sold as a pair. In addition, on Amazon the product that you receive is supposed to match the picture or image shown. Since the picture shows two sticks that is what you SHOULD get. If a seller were to ever send you just one for some weird reason you can contact them and ask for the other stick. Then, if the seller is unresponsive, you can go to Amazon Customer Service for a solution. The ultimate weapon is opening an A-Z case. PLEASE contact the seller before ever doing that however as an A-Z is EXTREMELY damaging to a seller. ALSO, Amazon rules state you must contact the seller before opening one and they are actually beginning to enforce that part of the rule as well. Communication is the key element.
Question: Does the set includes bass drum double pedals
Answer: I've purchased 2 pairs and Neil's signature is on the sticks. Whether it's a a good facsimile or an auto pen or whatever, I got the sticks to use them so the signature is irrelevant to me. I like oak sticks and these are really good and durable. Don't know about collectability, they're just drumsticks
Question: Can anyone speak to the question of the actual acoustic decibal level of the (stick hitting the physical pad) sounds in a house/apt
Answer: Its for a set. They are great!!
Question: compared to an acoustic drum how does this drum feel and sound ? thanks
Answer: Yes of course im 13 and I use them whenever I have to play the B-Flat Scale

User questions & answers

Question: Does the aux in save to stereo? I have a jam man solo xt with aux in and it converts to mono
Answer: Yes you can, but you need to mic the guitar first in order to input sound into the pedal, otherwise the pedal will not record as it does not have an embedded mic.
Question: Can the nux loop core unit use Nimh recahargable batteries, can it work with a Mac, does it use wave files
Answer: absolutely. You probably figured this out already, but for anyone with the same question, put your multi pedal first if you want the effects to be loopable, and run the cable off the Nux into the input of the amp. If you have an effect loop amp you are in luck, because you can run your multipedal into the front of the amp and the looper in the effect loop. This way you can turn off all your effects, or only turn on certain ones, play a loop that way and keep it clean or only affected by what you want, then change the settings on the amp or whatever, and play over the top of the still unchanged loop with the new settings. You can only do this if you use the ME20 for all your effects. If you try to run effects etc on both the amp and the pedal, when you change your amp settings you affect everything. Run your amp on a clean setting for stuff like this. If you run everything into the front of the amp (no effect loop amp, for example) you have a problem then with your loops changing every time you change settings on the amp unless you keep the amp clean always, OR only use amp effects and no use the multi pedal for that song/songs. Its a bit mind boggling at first. It took me a while to get my head around it all with cables and pedals and what signal goes where in the amp (or not). My suggestion is that if you have an amp with effects, use those first and not a multi pedal or effect pedals. If you have pedals, run the amp clean and use the pedals. Its only when you try to combine the two that it starts to get confusing! Then, ye old trial and error is your friend.
Question: can you use with a non electric acoustical guitar
Answer: Probably no. It does not have a MIDI interface, which would be useful when recording.
Question: I have a boss me - 20 pedal, could you connect each other? i mean, could you connect the nux looper with others brands? thank you
Answer: Yes it does come with an ac adapter!

User questions & answers

Question: will this machine let you tap out you beats ,for recording already written songs
Answer: No Electronic Drum Set normally includes Bass Drum Pedals, Thrones or Sticks.
Question: Other than the additional 100 patterns, what are the main differences between this and the sr16? better chip? more features? anything
Answer: I don't have a decibel meter, but I can tell you it is unlikely anyone in an adjacent apartment will know you are playing. Maybe if your drums are set up right next to the dividing apartment wall *and* you're beating the heck out of them then your neighbor might notice a slight ticking sound with each hit. Within your own apartment, others will most likely hear it. If someone is in a bedroom with the door closed and the TV on, and you're in another room with the door closed, then maybe they won't notice anything. It is exactly the same noise as a practice pad - even the mesh heads. So, no it's not silent, but it's 100x quieter than a real set.
Question: Do I have to plug the machine into en amp? My hammon organ feeds directly into the leslie
Answer: The sound and feel are great and as close as the real thing as it can get from an electronic set. The Mesh material in the heads gives the bounce of the drum stick almost the same as hitting a real drum. The many different types of drum sets sounds that can be changed with the push of a button is something a real drummer set will never give you. Having said that, there's still something that won't ever replace a real drum set. The two main reasons I went this route versus a real set are because I don't have much space as this set takes less space as a real one. Secondly because real sets are very loud! I work from home and also needed sanity. With this, my son can practice any time of the day with his drum headphones without disturbing me working on the room next door. He plays a real one with one of his friends and the practice he gets on his helps him tremendously. This set also requires zero maintenance or tuning. A real set needs to be constantly tuned to sound good.
Question: What kind of speaker system is recommended with this drum machine
Answer: The Firth 5AN is 16" in length; this is is 16 1/4". The 5AN is .565" in diameter; this is .551". The two pair are identical in weight.

BOSS RC-1 Loop Station Pedal

The BOSS RC-1 is our simplest and most user-friendly Loop Station ever, and it’s a ton of fun! Since the RC-20 Loop Station was first released in 2001, BOSS has led the way by continually releasing new looping products. Though they’ve been used and enjoyed by various looping artists and performers, BOSS still pursued an easier and more affordable solution. The RC-1 is a straightforward looper that is easy to operate. Experience the fun of looping when you record, playback, overdub, and undo or redo loops using this compact BOSS stompbox. And of course, the RC-1 retains the BOSS quality and performance that musicians around the world have come to expect and rely on.

Is the RC-1 the right choice for you?

It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a concert touring professional. The RC-1 is a great choice for any guitarist, bassist or keyboardist concerned with usability and simplicity while having lots of fun!

You can incorporate the RC-1 into your existing pedalboard or effects system. It’s also a great way to learn, practice or improve your playing by quickly and easily creating your own backing track to jam along with. You can also loop stereo instruments like synthesizers and have a ball playing along.

Why would I want an external footswitch?

Apparently, some other products are based on the belief that mono recording and playback is good enough for you. We here at BOSS believe that it’s not too much for you to expect a stereo looper. With stereo inputs and outputs, you can record and playback your creations in stereo, the way music was intended to be played, performed, and enjoyed.

The optional FS-7 makes footswitching even simpler and easier! And, its compact size won’t take up much space on your pedal board. Pressing the “A” switch will stop the Rec/Overdub/Play mode. Hold down the “A” switch for two seconds or longer to erase the phrase. By pressing the “B” switch, you can easily undo or redo your phrase.

Is that new loop indicator just eye candy?

Well, yes and no. Sure, it’s cool to look at, but the new indicator on the RC-1 is also very innovative and useful. You can clearly and easily see the current status of the Rec/Overdub/Play modes. You can also switch the indicator to an alternate mode, which visually tracks your loop. During overdubbing and playback, the speed at which the indicator rotates directly corresponds to the length of the loop.

Everyone always wants to be “in the loop,” but with other loopers, you may not have enough recording time to capture every phrase that you want for your masterpiece. With its 12 minutes of stereo recording time, the RC-1 has the most stereo recording time in its class.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the size of the screws
Answer: I like the sr16 better as it is simpler to use.
Question: Will it fit a roland spd
Answer: You can play it directly through the organ/Leslie. Remove the back off the organ, and on the organ's AO-28 preamp where the volume pedal linkage attaches, you'll see a female RCA phono jack. Purchase a male RCA to male 1/4 TR cable to connect the two. Please note that the Hammond's auxiliary input is very high impedance (it was originally designed for commodity crystal phonograph cartridges of the 50's and 60's), so the cable must be of high quality and well shielded or it will pick up hum. The drum machine won't sound bad with the Leslie is on Chorale/slow, actually kind of a nice effect, however won't sound proper when the Leslie is in tremolo. I used this configuration for years, and is great if the organ is in a living room or other space not conducive for dedicated speakers. However, when you do go the latter route, get studio monitors or equivalent. Common speakers, such as pirated from a surround sound system (even if high end) don't cut it. The drums will sound distant and cheap.
Question: Will this fit the pearl mimic pro drum module
Answer: There are no speakers recommended for this product. It's a matter of your personal preference and depends entirely on the application. Desk top computer, studio house, studio near field or club system speakers, it does not matter. It's the best bang for your buck... Period. I bought a Machinedrum MK whatever (from Sweden last year) for $1,200 and sold it. It was a good drum unit if you're a DJ, but if you're a composing "musician" forget it. The SR18 is great... I'm a producer and I say buy it, try it... It doesn't matter if you're using. "Yamaha" or Bose... It delivers with speakers made by anyone at any price and any size.
Question: will it fit the roland spd-sx
Answer: I have mine at 46 inches (1,168 mm).

Product description

1-Channel +25dB in-line microphone preamplifier.

  • Uses Phantom power to give passive mics (mainly used for dynamic and ribbon mics) up to +25dB without passing Phantom power on to mic
  • Easy to use self contained design requires only Phantom power to work. **Does not use Phantom power to power mics
  • Recommended for use with all passive dynamic microphones
  • Compatible with tube, battery, or power supply driven microphones – safe for all passive ribbons with no transfer of Phantom
  • Does not power the mics themselves using Phantom power (that is not what this is designed for). instead, place the cloudlifter at the front of your dynamic mic, then hit it with Phantom Power and your basic mic (even an SM58 style mic) will shine like never before

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone used this with a heil pr-40 microphone
Answer: Hi Jeremy...Have not used my cloudlifter with the Heil pr-40.... but since it is a dynamic mic the cloudlifter might just be what the doctor ordered. As you probably know... the unit is great for a 20-25 db boost for mics that would be noisy when you crank the gain/trim pot on a preamp or mixer. I had that experience with an RE-20... noisy as can be when cranking the mixer gain... but clean as a whistle when hooked to the Cloudlifter. Just so you know my signal chain is Neumann TLM 102 mic into an Aphex 230 pre... through a small mackie mixer... into a Presonus firebox interface and finally a PC running Adobe Audition CS6. I have the gain on the pre set at about 2 o'clock and the output level turned all the way down. That means my initial record level is about -16 db and then I just boost it about 5 bd... do my eq and compression processing... then normalize to -3 db. This gives me a pristine noise floor. Hope this helps in spite of the fact I have not have the direct pr-40 through cloudlifter experience.Regards
Question: Is this better used for condensor or dynamic microphones
Answer: The CL-1 is useful only for dynamic and ribbon microphones, and will not work at all with condensers. The reason for this is that the 48v phantom power supplied from a USB interface, or a mixer, is used by the CL-1 to generate ~25dB of very clean gain. However, this means that the power doesn't get distributed further down the line. If your mic requires phantom power, the CL-1 is useless. However, if you're using a dynamic, the CL-1 is WONDERFUL, it helps generate very clean gain from almost any source. Definitely recommended for dynamics and ribbon microphones.
Question: Will this do anything for me if my preamps are already pretty great? I'm using an SM7b
Answer: The answer hinges on your definition of "pretty great". What you need from a preamp when you're using an SM7b is plenty of quiet gain. There are many really great preamps that don't have that. This mic needs so much boost that you're going to bring out the noise in just about every pre. The SM7b is a great mic, but I would simply not record it without a Cloud Lifter regardless of the quality of the pre.
Question: Do i need 2 xlr cables for this to work? or will just one cable do
Answer: Yes, you will need two XLR cables. The CloudLifter CL-1 is intended to be used with both a microphone and a mixer, or a mic and n XLR/USB interface. The CL-1 takes the 48v phantom power from a mixer or interface and turns it into around 25dB of very clean gain. It's intended for use with ribbon microphones, like the Fathead, or dynamics, like the SM58; if you are using a condenser microphone, like the NT1-A, then the CL-1 won't work, since it DOES NOT transfer 48v phantom power to the microphone. In my setup, I've used an SM58, going into the CloudLifter, then going into the FocusRite Scarlett 2i2 XLR/USB interface. (You may want to use the Scarlett Solo, if you only intend to use one mic. It's got the same preamp, but is slightly cheaper.) The end result is very clear, loud, and not at all noisy. I hope this helps you out!

User questions & answers

Question: How much space is required to set this kit up comfortably for a young player (10)? 3 ft x 3 ft.? 4 x 4? Something in between. And please, I understand
Answer: Give yourself about 6’ by 6’ to be sure you or your kid are comfortable...
Question: Will this work with the video game Rock Band
Answer: For Xbox One and Rock Band 4 you will need an Xbox 360 MIDI adapter and a PDP Wired Legacy Adapter, the latter of which is about $700 due to its rarity. For Xbox 360 and Rock Band 1-3, you just need the MIDI adapter mentioned previously. The MIDI out on the drums plugs into the MIDI in on the adapter, the adapter plugs into the Xbox (or PDP wired legacy adapter for Xbox One) via USB, and then you set specific MIDI notes to the pads via the Alesis module or use a pre-existing setup that works.
Question: What kind of acessories do I have to buy to have the set operational? I mean cables, amp and things like this
Answer: Throne (drum seat), pair of headphones with 1/4" jack or more likely a normal pair of 1/8" headphones + an 1/8" to 1/4" adapter (less than $10 on Amazon. Since this has seperate L and R outputs, I also got a dual L/R 1/4" to single 1/8" steareo adapter to ensure it plays in both ears. Also, I would highly suggest an amp whether or not you plan on using headphones. This thing is very low power and sound is very soft with headohones--plug kit into amp and headphones into amp headphone output.
Question: I cannot place the new model side-by-side and compare. What’s the difference between them
Answer: Alesis support here! The only difference between the Nitro Kit and Nitro Mesh Kit is that the Nitro Mesh Kit includes mesh heads, which provide both a more realistic feel to playing acoustic drums, and it also allows for softer sounding hits. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected].

User questions & answers

Question: Do these headphones come with a carrying case
Answer: No, they don't come, but I suggest to buy a case just in case. If you don't want to, buy it without a case, those are durable headphones, but you never know if you'll need the case to carry them in a bag, back pack, carry on.
Question: How does this compare to the ATH-M30? And how comfortable is it for extended hours of use
Answer: I can only respond to the 2nd part of your question as I have not tried the ATH-M30, but the ATH M20X was (for me) extremely uncomfortable even after using for only a short period of time. This was due to the, IMO, excessive heat build-up which literally caused pools of sweat to collect inside the earpieces. I returned the headset after a few days.
Question: are these good for big heads? i have trouble finding headphones that fit comfortably over my big head. also i wear glasses if that helps
Answer: They are pretty tight on the head, and they go over the ear, so if you're wearing glasses the soft part will push on your frames. I can't wear my glasses with them because I find it too uncomfortable. It might be better to look at on ear, rather than around ear headphones. That said, I've been able to loosen the headphones a lot by bending the the metal headband. If you're not afraid to do that with $50 then you might be able to get them to a comfortable "clamp" amount, haha.
Question: Are these noise-canceling enough to wear on a plane and not hear the plane noise
Answer: They do NOT have electronic noise canceling. They are over the ear. The cups absorb outside sound but not enough that would be considered "noise cancelling". They're mainly for DJ's, home, and professional studio producers who use them because electronic "Noise Cancelling" tech interferes with recordings.

Question: Will the Roland FD8 hihat pedal and KD-9 kick trigger work with the Kat
Answer: The kick pedal will work. Not sure about the hihat

Question: Can I use the hi-hat pedal to control other sounds
Answer: No. You have to hit the pads directly
Question: Does this thing have 808 hits

User questions & answers

Question: Is this good for recording into a DAW
Answer: It can play most common time signatures, but it does not have the ability to shift signatures mid song or add off-signature syncopation. It's a very good drum machine, but it won't be like a live drummer.
Question: does it come with AC adapter
Answer: Yes there is a list of drum variation in the manual included, and you can also download the manuals to your phones or tabs to have all the list of genre.
Question: Does this have the ability to play swing or jazz type grooves
Answer: I'm afraid 13" djembe head might be too wide the gig bag, I have a 12.5" djembe head it's a tight squeeze getting it to zip up. Zipper tabs broke attempting to zip up the bag, had to replace the tabs with strings.
Question: Is there a list of drum kit variations? It would help to have a reference to see which variation number corresponds to swing eighths or a genre
Answer: I think It will fit withouth a sy problem
