User questions & answers

Question: How to fix wrong drum noises being played from the kit (e.g. Hit the snare and a symbol plays, The kick plays the snare
Answer: The brain module has programmed sets within it programming. IF you are using the programmed songs section you will get such changes in order to play a certain style. Another possibility is that cross over is happening when a pad is hit very hard. The vibration may trigger a pad close to it. For any other problems I suggest you visit Yamaha's website or simply type in "drum crossover problems" and see if anyone else is having the problem.
Question: can you expand the kit to have one more cymbal
Answer: Yes, you can add one more cymbal!
Question: Does it come with a kick pedal
Answer: Yes it does
Question: Silent? I live in an apartment; learning to play a drum or kit will require being very quiet
Answer: Don't sweat it. I live in a very small house. I can practice while my wife sleeps in the next room. The sound is no louder than using a practice pad, even quieter. Go for it!

Question: does this kit include the drum pads themselves
Answer: Not the pedal itself.
Question: Can someone tell me the physical floor space this set will take up, without a human sitting at the set
Answer: I would say about lesa than 2 sqm
Question: Does the kit include the bass drum foot pedal as shown in the photo
Answer: The DTX400 comes with a "silent" or "beaterless" kick pedal so it's super quiet. A bass drum pedal hitting a bass drum pad can great a lot of noise. The DTX450 comes with a bass drum pedal included in the box. The DTX502 Series (and above models) does not since that level of player probably wants to select the bass drum pedal. Hope this helps.

XP80 3-Zone Textured Silicone Snare Pad

Becoming a good drummer takes endless hours of dedicated practice. With this in mind, we at Yamaha designed DTXdrums to make practicing more fun, focusing on giving the DTX pads a feel that would let drummers simply enjoy playing. The head of the XP80 is filled with air bubbles of a size and density that have been carefully arrayed to provide a feel that actually entices drummers to play. These bubbles also act as a cushion when the drum is hit, so that you can play for extended periods without worrying about harming your arms or wrists.

Realistic Cymbal 'Choke' Feature

The DTX522K features our professional 3-zone cymbal pads, which can express a different sound in each of the cup, bow and edge zones. These cymbals have a good stick feel and low acoustic noise, which is essential for electronic drums when used for private practice. In addition to a very natural swaying motion, they also have the 'choke' function 360-degrees around the edge. You can even mute the cymbal before striking it - a DTX exclusive feature!

DTX502 Drum Trigger Module

The powerful DTX502 module has a 32 note polyphonic tone generator, 691 Drum and percussion sounds, 50 preset drum kits from a wide span of genres, plus layer and import options. That's almost twice the wave ROM and over 250 more sounds than its predecessor and features new drum and cymbal samples from top VST developers. Voices inherited from other DTX modules have been updated for improved playability and sound.

Free iOS Apps included!

Learn to play your favorite songs with an iPhone, iPad and iPod touch by seeing where to hit the drums in musical time. Yamaha's free Songbeats App allows you to easily create custom accompaniments for drums, putting your drumming at the center of the band. 1000 songs are built right into the app. Or import MIDI music files directly into your DTX502 module using the free MusicSoft app. You can slow the tempo of the accompaniment or mute the part for one hand to practice at your own pace.

Product description

Responsive rubber kick pad large enough to accomodate a double bass pedal

  • Natural feel
  • Sensitivity control
  • Aux pad input
  • Velcro and spikes to prevent creep
  • Large enough for double pedals

User questions & answers

Question: Will this kick pad work with DTX 400 kit
Answer: If the DTX 400 has a 1/4" trigger input it will work
Question: Does anyone know if it is compatible with Roland TD modules? Thanks
Answer: I am quite sure that it will work. It has the same jack on the back to fit the pug on the TD4 or other TDs and there is one reviewer on the Amazon site that says that he has it hooked to a Roland.
Question: Will it keep moving if I don't screw it on the floor? I want my drum pad and bass to be movable and can be stowed away if I need extra space
Answer: Most acoustic bass pedals, from the least expensive to the most expensive USUALLY have some way to clamp onto the rim of a kick drum. This will look like a claw or clamp on the bottom of the bass pedal under the striker. Pedals with such a mechanism should latch on to this product. This target has two screw-pins that look like spring-loaded spikes on the far side (away from the player) so that if you have carpet, towel, or rug under your pedal area the screws can be lowered into that surface. This prevents it from moving much. This means that this is not permanently affixed to any floor or board. It should be able to be moved.
Question: Can this plug right into a PA channel or do you need some sort of controller
Answer: You can get a generic "thump" plugging straight in, but it's not very good. You'll need a controller to get any decent sounds. I picked up a used Yamaha DTXpress for $125. Well worth it. The variety of sounds is incredible, and you can add more triggers for other drum sounds. I wound up exchanging my KP65 for the silent pedal KU100. Very happy with it, but I'm a bass player, so I never knew a real bass drum pedal.

User questions & answers

Question: I like the action of my current rubber pads. Will the snare & tom pads have a simular action as rubber pads
Answer: These have a more natural feel than rubber pads. Very similar to acoustic drum heads. I guess it depends on whether you prefer rubber pads or acoustic. To me rubber pads don’t have that crisp bounce and rebound. I LOVE this kit!
Question: can i add an extra cymbal? to use as a china
Answer: Yes, there should be an extra port on the back of the kick tower that you can plug another pad into.http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/musical-instruments/drums/el-drumkit/dtx502/dtx522k/10676/8527
Question: Can anyone speak to the question of the actual acoustic decibal level of the (stick hitting the physical pad) sounds in a house/apt
Answer: There is little to no noise. For example, you will not be able to hear the sound of a stick on the pad through a standard residential wall. If you have ever heard the stick on a modern percussion practice pad from Evans or Offworld Percussion the volume level is the same. The mesh toms/snare pads are even quieter than the rubber cymbal pads. Thanks for your inquiry.
Question: Is the kick pedal included in the set
Answer: No, the kick pedal is sold separately.

User questions & answers

Question: will this work with a SoundX model
Answer: It's just a trigger, so it should work. But it should also be better in general. If you're looking for a good kick trigger, this is not it.
Question: Could you use 2 of these using a splitter
Answer: Probably. It's passive, so that should work. But this pedal is terrible and no one should waste their money on it.
Question: Will it work with Alesis drum pad
Answer: As far as I know, a beaterless, silent kick pedal like the KU 100 doesn't require a drum pad. -If it's striking against an Alesis drum pad...it wouldn't be silent! so if you meant "will it work with Alesis drum MACHINE" -I'm not 100 % sure it will work with an Alesis, but I bet it will. My friend used the Yamaha KP65 kick pad on his Alesis with no issues, so if that KP65 works on yours, then I'm guessing the KU100 will also - I've checked youtube videos for compatibility before, they can be so helpful! -good luck, I hope you get it going! -peace.
Question: does it work without a drum kit
Answer: Hi Steph, It's an electronic trigger pedal, velocity sensitive, that can play any electronic sound from a sound module that can receive its trigger signal on a 1/4 inch jack. Most of these types are drum-centered modules. It does not require a drum kit, but needs an electronic sound module plus an amplification system of some kind, or headphones, to hear it. This pedal does not send a Midi signal.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the voltage of this drum set? i will bring it to a country where it is 220V power input
Answer: It is 110 volts. I bought it in US and brought it to Europe. Just bought an adabter to handle 220 volts
Question: How big is the box it ships in
Answer: Memory guess only...I think there were 2 boxes, one small & one around 5'x3'x18".
Question: Can you upgrade yamaha dtx 450 kit with separately purchased xp80sd or xp100sd snare modules? also how is the dtx 400 brain compared to the dtx
Answer: The 500 brains had expandable options. The 400 series brain can handle 1 additional pad via the dtx450 bass drum pedal, but I would strongly urge you towards the 500 series in terms of expansion and customization.
Question: What are the advantages of the Yamaha DTX-450K kit over the Alesis DM6 USB kit, which is very similar but costs half as much as the Yamaha kit
Answer: I really cannot give you a complete answer. I bought the Yamaha DTX-450K to my 12yr old son. I read a lot of stuff and came to the conclusion that Yamaha is better. Which obvioulsly could be untrue. In Youtube you find some reviews and you can see the drummers in action. This Yamaha model has a 3 zone snare for rimshots, which my son sees as very important for a real drum. Not being a drummer myself, I suspect that the Alesis would be good enough for a beginner, it is just that my kid convinced me otherwise. Good luck.

Question: Will it work on any drum set
Answer: I've never heard of any variation in the size. It should work on all drum sets
Question: Does this work for key tuned djembe
Answer: This key fits to snare and toms. If the djembe has the same tuning ports as snares and toms it will work. Hope this helps!
Question: we disassembled the drums set but now we need to build it back but missing the wrench. is this the tool used to put the parts together
Answer: This drum key works on the rims of the drums to secure the drum heads. If by disassembled you mean you removed the heads? Yes. However, I don't know how you got the heads off without a a drum key. Good luck.
