14 best student flutes
Student flutes are musical instruments designed for beginners and students who are learning to play the flute. Here is some information about student flutes and their characteristics:
Purpose: Student flutes are specifically crafted to provide beginners with a reliable and affordable instrument for learning to play the flute. They serve as a starting point for students before they progress to more advanced models.
Construction: These flutes are typically made of durable materials such as nickel silver or silver-plated brass. While they may not have the same level of craftsmanship and materials as professional flutes, they are well-suited for learning and practice.
Key Configuration: Student flutes are often designed with a C foot joint, which is shorter than the B foot joint found on some intermediate and professional models. This makes them easier to handle for beginners.
Closed Hole vs. Open Hole: Many student flutes have closed-hole (plateau) keys rather than open-hole keys. Closed-hole flutes are more comfortable for beginners to start with as they provide a solid surface for finger placement.
Offset G vs. Inline G: Student flutes frequently feature an offset G key, which means that the G key is offset from the other keys. This ergonomic design is more comfortable for many beginners. In contrast, professional flutes often have an inline G key.
Tone and Sound: While student flutes may not produce the same rich and complex tone as professional models, they still offer a pleasant and clear sound. With proper technique and practice, students can develop their tone quality over time.
Price Range: Student flutes are usually more affordable than intermediate or professional models. This affordability makes them accessible to individuals who are just starting their flute-playing journey.
Accessories: When you purchase a student flute, it often comes with essential accessories such as a case, cleaning rod, and cleaning cloth. These accessories help students take care of their flute and keep it in good condition.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance and cleaning are essential to keep a student flute in good working condition. Students should follow care instructions to ensure the longevity and performance of their instrument.
Upgrading: As students progress in their flute-playing skills, they may eventually consider upgrading to an intermediate or professional flute for a more refined and nuanced sound.
Overall, student flutes are designed to provide a solid foundation for beginners and offer an affordable entry point into learning the flute. They are a popular choice for school music programs and individual students who are embarking on their musical journey with this beautiful woodwind instrument.

User questions & answers
Question: | is this a good flutw for intermediates as well as beginners |
Answer: | metal |
Question: | This would be for a first time student in 4th grade. Would this be suitable |
Answer: | Although this is a great student flute we recommend Nickel or Silver Flutes for beginners as they require less maintenance and care. Please see our D'Luca Flute 400N Nickel Model for details:https://www.amazon.com/DLuca-400N-Plated-Closed-Mechanism/dp/B01HRBJ3QG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_267_10?ie=UTF8&dpID=51ihsxvMP6L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&psc=1&refRID=3VGRXY954ZZNZ9PPX72K |
Question: | Why several people all left 5 star reviews for 3-5 different Easter instruments and the format of the reviews very similar? Too much of a coincidence |
Answer: | Haven’t had a problem with it. But I would think you could ask Amazon for a phone # to call or send a email to them through Amazon. |
Question: | have anyone played it? how about the sounds |
Answer: | 2 and 11/16th inches. But beware, several of the Lenox glasses that I ordered showed up in little pieces :-( |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the flute new |
Answer: | Yes I think so it's 14 mm |
Question: | what is the difference between student and intermediate model |
Answer: | I’m not certain what you mean by “standard size”. This chaser is for the 14mm x 1.25mm thread size/pitch. Automotive spark plugs come in 4 popular sizes. The easiest way to know is to measure your current spark plugs. |
Question: | Is this flute 17 closed holes |
Answer: | Probably, if it has standard 14mm plugs. |
Question: | Is this good for an intermediate level adult who wants to start playing again |
Answer: | I got this for a 2001 Ford E350 because I thought it was the next size up to re-thread it for a blown plug, but it just re-threads the thread you already have If you have cross threaded a plug I guess. I you have a blown plug though, you need to get one of these http://www.zoro.com/i/G1243094/?utm_source=Bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PLA Just make sure it's the correct kit...... I ended up getting one from Autozone to make sure I got the right one, but I'm sure you could get it on here as well? ... The only problem I had was the nut on the tap was too big to fit in the spark plug hole, weird?! but ground it down with a grinder until it fitted in the socket. re-cut the thread, then you put the new thread insert, supplied with the kit on the plug as stated on the instructions and touch wood, all is AOK so far after a few thousand miles...............Not even sure if any off that helped, but good luck. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What’s the difference between $1000 and this one |
Answer: | This flute is made from junk metal, cannot be repaired, isn’t in tune, cannot be sold if your kid stops playing and has closed holes. A $1000 flute is a professional instrument. |
Question: | I wonder if the resonance (sound) is metal or plastic |
Answer: | This Glory Flute is amazing for the price. Better than many double or triple the price. Nice mellow sounds. The flute is all metal and very polished. |
Question: | How well does it play compared to an Armstrong flute |
Answer: | There is a WORLD of difference between these flutes and even the entry level Armstrong, starting with durability but extending to tone, embouchure, key action, pads, springs, and serviceability - just to START. The ONLY time spending money on one of these is "worth it" is if there are no other options, in my opinion. Who am I to say so? I have played flute(s) for 46 years in marching bands; concert bands; orchestras; as a soloist & in ensembles; for festivals, weddings, and other events. I was chosen for a prestigious youth symphony, a nationally known marching band, and hired by a pro symphony orchestra at age 20. I have played Artley, Bundy, De Ford, Emerson, Selmer, Armstrong, Gemeinhardt, Pearl, Azumi, Yamaha, Muramatsu, Powell and Haynes flutes, in addition to nearly all of the recent Chinese imported brands like Sky, Glory, Mendini, etc. I have also played Artley, Armstrong, Gemeinhardt, Jupiter, and Yamaha piccolos (and tried the imports, too). I've taught flute lessons for over 30 years, and I've worked with flute techs, ad by myself, on almost every instrument brand over the last decade. The BIGGEST PROBLEM with cheap, imported flutes is that that are not fixable. Many techs will not work on them. The metal is soft/poor quality. They bend easily and the springs, keys and tome holes do not last. The companies do not stand behind them. (Try returning one for warranty work.) You MIGHT have time to learn the fingering for notes before your flute expires, or if you are exceptional, your instrument may last longer. You are, in my EXPERT opinion, far better off to spend a bit more and get even a USED Armstrong, Gemeinhardt, Yamaha, Emerson, Artley, etc. than to buy one of these. Silver, even plate, sounds MUCH different than "cupronickel metal" colored silver (or something else). A beginner won't hear it. A musician will. |
Question: | How long does it take for the paint to start chipping off and what is the paint made out of |
Answer: | At first it was awesome! After 2 weeks.. the color chipped off.. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is mendini flute made |
Answer: | The headjoint of the azumi 2 is sterling silver (92.5 % pure). Previous models were Britannia silver (95.8% pure), but all currently manufactured models are sterling. The body and key mechanism are made of nickel plated with silver. The lip plate is also sterling. I would mention that “solid silver” usually refers to a less pure version of silver than either sterling or Britannia. Solid silver is 90.0% pure. Hope that helps! |
Question: | What is the difference between the versions of this flute that I see at |
Answer: | No, These are all made in Taiwan. All Azumi models are made in Taiwan. The higher-end Altus models are made in Azumino, Japan, but those start at $4,000, and are generally not available on platforms like Amazon. |
- Material: Memory spring needle made by high quality Stainless-Steel springs, bladder pads made of Italian felt double sheep casings, air tightness and long-lasting.
- Design: It has standard features like 16 closed-hole keys, offset G with split E key, detachable foot-joint. The offset G key is allows you to reach the G key naturally with ease. Split E key divides G into two separate keys moving independently while linked.
- Tone: Real CUPRONICKEL body, High quality leather mats and metal echo panels which make good resonance, more explosive.
- Elegant appearance: Keys All key shapes and placement have been ergonomically designed for a comfortable, natural-feeling performance.
- Newly improved 2019 Series Premium Grade Nickel plated C Flute can be a good gift for beginner, for kids, students, and so on.
User questions & answers
Question: | There was no stand or cleaning rod in my shipment. How do I get my stand and rod |
Answer: | I don't know anything about fixing instruments, so I would have to send it back. |
Question: | Is there a book or instructions? Ours came with nothing |
Answer: | I believe that what I own is a 17 key C foot with 2 keys at the end. Not a b. AB has 3 keys at the end. Hope it helps. |
Question: | What is this flute made of and what is the country of origin |
Answer: | The closed hole came with mine. I would believe the open hole would also. |
Question: | what is a c 16 flute |
Answer: | A a C flute refers to the key in which the instrument plays. (ex., a B-flat trumpet, when playing a C note, will sound a B-flat)B an offset G refers to the location of the key under the left ring finger. if it lines up with the other keys, it is inline. offset Gs are easier because the key is slightly forward, making it less stressful for the wrist.C the foot is the third segment of the instrument. most basic models will offer a C foot which enables the player to reach a maximum of low C. a B foot will enable the player to reach a low B.so to answer your question...probably all of it is true. also, dude--Google. learn it. |

Question: | Is this an authentic? Why is it half the price of authorized Yamaha dealers |
Answer: | I bought one and I'm still not sure. I saw a review on youtube with what appears to be the same flute that seems legitimate. I paid just about $500.00 from one of these Amazon merchants and my 4 star verified purchase review is posted. I'm happy with the purchase so far. The flute does have "pointed" rather than "y" key arms and seems quite well made. However I am not a technician or professional musician. I was surprised at the low price compared to "Sam Ash" and "Musicians Friend" pricing at about $1000.00. Authorized dealer carries a 5 years warranty but that doesn't cover pads & springs & corks so I took my chance. By the way after I made my purchase I saw "Flute Center of New York" which is an authorized dealer has the flute priced at $629.00. I might have purchased that one had I done more research and waited. I emailed the serial number to Yamaha and they responded that they don't verify unless purchased from an authorized dealer. I still would like to have the flute I received checked by a Yamaha authorized tech which I may do down the line when it needs maintenance. I would also like to compare the flute I received to a known Yamaha 222. Sorry I can't confirm for sure it's authenticity, Good luck. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this the factory second being sold or the standard 1sp |
Answer: | I believe it is a second, but it has something to do with a stamp on it and not the quality of the flute. (When I called the company that is what I was told.) The flute sounds lovely. My daughter's instructor seemed to think it was very nice - she plays for the symphony. We're very happy with it, but for us it is used as a beginner flute. I am no expert! She is 10 and plays it beautifully. |
Question: | Does this have a b foot joint |
Answer: | Hi ,David. The 1SP has a C-foot. If you are interested in finding a b-foot please call us at 906.298.0928, we can discuss your needs and point you in the right direction. |
Question: | Are the gemeinharth flute made in us? how is the addition warrenty handled? do flute have to sent in or is there some were local i can take it to |
Answer: | Sadly, Amazon is NOT an authorized seller of Gemeinhardt flutes & won't be covered by the manufacturers warranty. However, I am sure Amazon offers some sort of coverage, although you'd probably have to pay extra for it. To learn more about their AWESOME instruments, you can check their site out & see what I mean about Amazon not being an authorized seller. However, the prices on Amazon make it very tempting! It was what caught my eye & brought me to check this page. That being said, if you are looking to purchase 1 with all of the protection & surety provided by Gemeinhardt, perhaps it would be safer for you to purchase a flute directly through them. Having played flute for 35 years & having played all sorts of brands from "no-names" (or very cheap ones as can be found here on Amazon for less than $100), Bundy/Selmer, to Gemeinhardt, Yamaha, Armstrong & Altus, I have to admit my favorite flutes & piccolos are made by Gemeinhardt. If you're serious about buying a well made flute & will be devoted to playing it, it's worth the investment to buy it through them. Otherwise, you should perhaps buy a cheap model or seek a used 1 for sale through other ways & means. I hope this clears up everything you & others would want to know. |
Question: | Is this flute as goo as a Yahama flute |
Answer: | Fast shipping & nice flute! |

- Yamaha YFL221 Flute
- Key of C -Silver-plated finish
- Plateau model
- It has Offset G
- Includes YAC-1310 Case
User questions & answers
Question: | where was this flute made |
Answer: | Technically nothing, they are just listed differently because amazon doesn’t know any better. But all 362 models are silver headjoint, open hole, offset g. The H at the end implies a b foot, so a “362 with b foot” is the exact same thing as a 362H. Order from the flute center and we will be sure to take care of you. |
Question: | According to the product features it comes with the case right |
Answer: | Yes, it includes the case. It is a nice new case, I think French style but I'm not certain without looking at it. Thanks! |
Question: | for yamaha 211 new flute, do the original package such as box, cleaning rob ex. all include in |
Answer: | hi There - there is almost no difference whatsoever. The only two differences are the pointed key arms (which have become a standard spec on almost all flutes, and which used to only be on professional flutes) and an upgraded case (they used to come in the same case as the student flutes, but now come in the same case that the 462's come in). This is just the new model number, as the 361s are now discontinued. |
Question: | Hi, how long will it take to ship to the US - what is the fastest option |
Answer: | Yamaha flutes come with a 5 year manufacturer warranty. In addition, the Flute Center of New York offers a one year warranty that covers all normal wear-and-tear. This does not cover dents, scratches, or polishing. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the difference between 1sp and 2sp |
Answer: | Unfortunately, I don't know. I search their website and found their comparison between the two flutes to be vague and unhelpful. They indicate a higher quality and offer a longer, 5 year vs 3 year, warranty. And there is a price difference, but no details. I bought my granddaughter the 2SP and she loves it. Not being a flutist, I take heard word for it. I did a lot of research about student flutes at it came highly recommended. Try googling student flutes. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Is the flute new? Is it a black thick case? It only says black plastic, and I am bit lost. Can you display a photo of the case |
Answer: | Yes the flute is brand new. I bought one for a student and it is excellent. The case is very thick and there is a velvet lining inside to protect the flute. It is not a plastic that you would think of. I can't really describe it, but it is extremely sturdy. Let's put it this way, I have been a flutist for 31 years and I have dropped the cases many, many times and the wasn't even a scratch in the case and the flute was fine. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Is this flute with Gemeinhardt warranty? How many year |
Answer: | I am unsure about the warranty, but have been very pleased with the flute thus far -- I have been playing flute for many, many years and used this flute for the last approx 8 months. I have received compliments on its beautiful tone. Sorry about not having any specifics about the warranty. |
Question: | is it good flute? does it arrive tuned |
Answer: | Flutes need to be tuned every time they are assembled, so you will want to have a tuner of some kind as well. As for whether it is a good flute, I found it to be good for its range; it has a nice sound, I think, a warmer and sweeter sound than some, to my ears at least. However, each flute is different, and so is everybody's taste; if you have the opportunity to do so, I would very much recommend that you go to a shop selling the instruments and try listening to several and find which one you like. |
