Question:	What kind of materials would I need to buy with the kit? Glue, varnish, etc
Answer:	It comes ready to play however, I would spend a few more dollars and get a better violin. The quality of this instrument is not very good.
Question:	What type of wood is the fingerboard? when i bought it, i was under the impression it was ebony, but now i'm not sure
Answer:	late reply but maybe it might help someone else, when i was 11 or so i was given a 3/4 violin. it was a good size for me, and big enough to grow into. even at 24 i can still play the 3/4 when my 4/4 was being repaired though yes it is a bit small for me now, but i didn't want to fall out of practice. i dont really know how much smaller the 1/2 is in my hands i think that would be good for an 8 year old but you would need to upgrade to a 3/4 or 4/4 by the time they are 13-15, if they grow fast during puberty i would just pay for a 4/4 and have them grow into it.

Answer:	This is not a toy, it's a real violin, but it is an inexpensive violin. It has a very nice sound when tuned, and needs to be cared for appropriately.We bought a 1/16 size for my 2-1/2 year old son. He loves instruments, and desperately wanted a violin with a bow. This one is about the same price as a lot of electronic toys, so we figured that we couldn't go wrong. For our use it's been perfect. My son doesn't have the physical coordination for fingerings yet, and mostly just likes to pull the bow across the strings. It doesn't really matter if it stays in tune, because he's not ready to play it yet - we're mostly teaching him how to hold the violin and the bow properly, and how to move the bow. We're looking into finding a young adult violin tutor spend 15 minutes or so each week with him, "playing violin", so that he can build some of those good habits. My 16yo, who is just starting to learn on a rented violin, practices with him, and any time he sees or hears violin music he runs to get his violin to play along. The first thing that he learned was how to secure it in the case properly, including the bow, and to make sure the violin is covered with its "blankie" - again, learning good habits early.So again, it's a great beginner violin if you aren't sure what to expect from the student. It sounds nice when tuned, and is inexpensive enough to let my toddler learn on. If he's still interested when he's old enough for proper lessons he'll need a larger one anyway, and we'll re-evaluate then.

Answer:	I do not know. Almost all cassette tapes are recorded at a speed of 1 7/8" per second (ips), so the Marantz should play them back correctly, as apparently it does for your newer tapes. There have been a handful of "consumer multitrack machines" that recorded at 3 3/4 ips, but they would sound sloooow on this machine. It sounds like your tapes were recorded at a slower speed (either that or the tapes are defective and are slipping). There were some audiobooks from the Library of Congress that recorded at 15/16 ips, and these would sound really fast on any standard machine. If they are what you have you will have a lot of trouble finding a tape player that will match the speed you want.

There is a certain direction and placing the bridge must sit to be able to sit properly, please seek a professional for instrument care.

Answer:	The top button changes the pitch: ie 440 (which is standard pitch) to a faster pitch and turns the tuner off and on. The bottom button changes the instrument to be tuned: violin, viola, cello & base. Hope this helps.

Answer:	The clip opens to 1 1/4 inch at the widest. Don't know if that's large enough for your bass.

Answer:	It responds as quickly as any tuner meaning you can check long notes, but not short ones. However, the center markers for pitch are white with yellow ones on each side which means there's little contrast to see while you're playing. So I think it would be tough to monitor your pitch while playing.

Answer:	The bridge is the difference. A fiddle is a violin with a flatter bridge and a violin with a rounded bridge is played in the classic style and just called violin. Fiddle, as some mentioned is related to folk, country western, zydeco, bluegrass, folksy types of music. This is because the flatter bridge allows one to play chords more easily by making it easier to bow two or more strings at once. Whereas a standard violin with rounded bridge is easier to bow single notes as one would in an orchestral setting.
