14 best starter violin
A starter violin, often referred to as a beginner or student violin, is an entry-level instrument designed for individuals who are new to playing the violin or those who are still in the early stages of learning. Here is some information about starter violins:
Construction: Starter violins are typically crafted using more affordable materials compared to professional-grade violins. They often have a body made from laminate wood or other composite materials. While they may not have the same tonal qualities as high-end instruments, they are suitable for beginners.
Size Options: Starter violins come in various sizes to accommodate players of different ages and sizes. Common sizes include full-size (4/4), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, and 1/10.Choosing the right size is crucial for comfort and ease of playing.
Setup: Many starter violins are sold as outfits that include essential accessories such as a bow, case, rosin, and sometimes even a shoulder rest. This makes it convenient for beginners to get started with everything they need.
Tone Quality: While starter violins may not produce the same rich and nuanced tones as professional instruments, they are capable of producing sound suitable for learning and practice. As a player progresses and develops their skills, they may consider upgrading to a higher-quality violin for better tone quality.
Affordability: Starter violins are budget-friendly, making them accessible to beginners who may not want to invest in a more expensive instrument until they have gained more experience and commitment to playing the violin.
Durability: These violins are often built to withstand the rigors of beginner learning. They are less delicate than high-end violins, which can be advantageous for students who are still developing proper handling and care techniques.
Setup and Maintenance: While starter violins are generally easier to maintain compared to professional violins, they still require basic care, such as regular tuning and cleaning. Learning how to maintain the instrument is an important part of a beginner's education.
Learning Process: Starter violins are ideal for beginners who are taking lessons or self-learning the violin. They provide a platform for developing foundational skills, including bowing techniques, fingering, and intonation.
Upgrade Path: As a player progresses and becomes more skilled, they may choose to upgrade to a higher-quality violin to access better tone and resonance. Starter violins can serve as stepping stones in a musician's journey.
In summary, a starter violin is a cost-effective option for individuals who are new to playing the violin. While they may not offer the same level of tonal quality as professional violins, they are well-suited for beginners as they embark on their musical journey and develop their skills. It's important for beginners to receive proper guidance and instruction when starting to play the violin to ensure a positive learning experience.

User questions & answers
Question: | My daughter is 10. What’s the recommended size for her |
Answer: | Yes it has an adjustable finger ring on the slide. It is secured by a screw. |
Question: | Can adults purchase for themselves |
Answer: | This Kaiser trumpet will need work before it will be useable. Best choice would be a Levante trumpet. (Guitar Center) Levante is a significantly lower cost but comparable to Bach trumpets. Kaiser is okay but you'll spend $100 or more making it playable. Levante is what professionals use as a back up to a Bach ($3000+). I am a trumpet player with 30 years experience and also teach advanced trumpet lessons. I had a couple of students with Kaiser trumpets and they had them worked over and still didn't compare to Levante sound or playability. |
Question: | What size is recommended for a 12 year old |
Answer: | Not in the USA. |
Question: | Where was this product made |
Answer: | I suspect yes...just like most instruments these days. |

Eastar EVA-3 Violin with learning Point Matte
Eastar EVA-3 violin is an innovative violin set, the innovative use of finger plates inlaid with muscovite can help students find the appropriate position.
There are two important points to note here:
1. The neck of the violin is white without paint, all of the neck of high-grade violins are not colored, otherwise the hands will sweat and slip when playing.
2. When tuning with the peg, press it inward slightly. Try to watch professional violin tuning teaching videos on relevant video websites.
How To Choose Violin Sizes
1. Violins are available in 8 different sizes: 4/4 (also called full size), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32. Size 4/4 is the biggest and size 1/32 is the smallest.
2.To measure what size violin best suits you. You need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm. The violin size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use.
Learning Finger Guide
Innovative use of finger plates inlaid with muscovite to help students quickly find the appropriate position to better master the violin playing skills.
Eliminate the energy and expense of buying fingerboard stickers, the board points are very clear, and there will be no reflection under the light.
Set a Bridge
The bridge should be left high and low right, and the bridge should coincide with the midpoint of the vi hole of the violin. When you follow the bridge, you must loosen the violin string. After placing the bridge in place, the string is inserted into the limit of the bridge, and the tuning can be used normally.
Come with Violin Tuner
Multifunctional digital display tuner with twelve even rhythms. The backlight feature tunes in at night as well. Simple and portable:
- Start the tuner, clip the tuner to the head of the violin and select Function V.
- The tuner backlight will show green when the tone is accurate.
Note: It is common for the string instuments that the state of new strings are unstable. It takes a few more tunings to stabilize the pitch.
Tunning Peg
- Tighten the peg, make sure the peg is not too loose or too tight.
- The strings are typically tuned to G-D-A-E from left to right.
- Push the peg inside gently while tuning.
Metal Fine Adjustment Knob
The function of the fine adjustment knob is to help the violinist to make parts for tuning.
- Loosen the adjustment knob
- Adjust the violin neck knob to about 10 cents lower than the standard tone
- Press the top knob to fix the pitch
- Gently tighten the knob until the pitch is exactly positioned
- Adjust A D first and then adjust G E
Rosin can increase the friction of the bow and strings to make the violin sound. Please use rosin before playing.

User questions & answers
Question: | Whats the difference between mv400 and the cvn |
Answer: | CVN-300 has better wood quality than MV400. The CVN-300 has a bright and vibrant tone that produces a clear and crisp sound. |
Question: | Are the bows prerosined? I want to use one as a practice bow |
Answer: | No. They are not prerosined--but it does come with the rosin for you to do yourself. |
Question: | Do you ship to the Philippines |
Answer: | We are sorry to tell you that we do not ship to Philippines. |
Question: | Does this violin come assembled |
Answer: | I am a luthier and my wife is a violin teacher. One of her students brought me this exact violin (MV400) to have set up work done. Here is a list of what needed to be done: Refit the bridge feet, thin bridge blank, carve out excess wood from bridge, lower bridge arch for proper string heights, fit pegs and re-drill peg holes, lower and reprofile nut and re-slot string grooves, new tailpiece (cheap tailpiece only lasted 2 weeks before fine tuners seized up), new strings (cheap strings sounded truly awful, and started fraying after 2 weeks), remove excess varnish from neck/ fingerboard joint and smooth, and finally a new soundpost. The fingerboard was adequate, and I left it alone. The instrument itself is not terrible, and the pegs and fingerboard were of reasonable quality, but the tailpiece and string quality and very inadequate setup will have you spending an additional $200-$300 and I haven't even mentioned the awful bow, crummy shoulder rest, and crummy rosin. The instrument sounds reasonably good now after all the work, though at the end of the day, you still have a $100 violin. You really get what you pay for. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with the accesories in the picture |
Answer: | Everything that is in the picture comes in the case. |
Question: | If my daughter is 10, what size should I get |
Answer: | I got the 4/4 size however my grandaughter has the 7/8 and she is 10. The violins are so close in size its hard to tell the difference however her bow in lenght is shorter. |
Question: | Would this 1/4 fit a small 7 year old |
Answer: | 5 -7 yrs about 18"arm span 1/47-9yrs about 20"arm span 1/2 |
Question: | Can this be used as a fiddle |
Answer: | The bridge is the difference. A fiddle is a violin with a flatter bridge and a violin with a rounded bridge is played in the classic style and just called violin. Fiddle, as some mentioned is related to folk, country western, zydeco, bluegrass, folksy types of music. This is because the flatter bridge allows one to play chords more easily by making it easier to bow two or more strings at once. Whereas a standard violin with rounded bridge is easier to bow single notes as one would in an orchestral setting. |

To measure what size violin best suits you, you need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm (when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body, just like holding a violin). Most of the teachers prefer students to use the length from the neck to the wrist for measurement instead of the neck to mid-palm approach. Find your length using your preferred approach and use that to determine the size of violin to get.
If you have a teacher, you should ask for your teacher's recommendation. If you don't have a teacher, we would recommend using the neck/wrist approach for students not using full size; for students who are deciding whether to used size 3/4 or size 4/4, use the neck/mid-palm approach. This is because it is always better those students feeling comfortable holding and playing the violin. However, while deciding between size 3/4 and size 4/4, if neck/mid-palm approach allows for size 4/4, then buying a size 4/4 is more economical since you don't have to buy another bigger size violin later. This is completely based on economical consideration. You should still decide what best suits your need.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference in sizes between 1/4 1/2 and 4/4 Am thinking of getting one, just not sure about the size |
Answer: | No. There are tutorials online, or booklets and tutorials you can buy through Amazon in order to learn how to play the instrument. This is only the instrument, and extra accessories. |
Question: | Hello, I am a Double Bass player in my school orchestra. I am new to the violin, and wanted to know if the bridge/strings will be placed already? Thx |
Answer: | No case, with one extra string |
Question: | What size is for children |
Answer: | It is not ready to play when it just got out the box. You have to do the followings in order: 1) slide the damper under the two strings at the bottom of the python skin (I remove this damper afterward and the instrument still sounds fine, will double check with other erhu players). 2) put the "bridge" in the center of the python skin, under the two strings, make sure the strings sit in their notch on the bridge 3) tune up the strings to D (the left one) and A (the right one) (assume you are looking at the python skin) 4) add tension to the bow to the horse hair it taut, then apply the rosin on both side, this takes a while as it is a new bow 5) release the tension, take out the horse hair at one end (where you would hold the bow), slide the hair between the two strings. There are two ways to insert the hair, and ONE is WRONG !!! If you hold the erhu in playing position, the hair should be inserted such that the tip of the bow pointed backward to your left side and the "hand holding" end point forward to the right. Then turn the screw to increase the hair tension. Now, it's really ready to play. |
Question: | Is this a real violin for a twelve year old starting to play or is it a toy |

Question: | Tiene clavijas de madera |
Answer: | You can absolutely play this violin acoustically. The Electronics are just there if you happen to ever want to plug it in! |
Question: | Does the bow really touch the wood |
Answer: | It's easy! Get an amp to headphone jack converter, just plugs into the amp port on the violin and provides headphone ports. You'll also need a muter, it's a big rubber thing that slips over the strings and bridge, that reduces sound allot, but not so much that the headphones wouldn't pick it up. I'll drop some links below:Muter:http://www.amazon.com/Glaesel-Violin-Ultra-Practice-Mute/dp/B0002II6V0/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1430597446&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=glasser+muterAdapter:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF0JSVO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=5CARPKV8BWHG&coliid=I1HLDE6SLLNSYB |

How to choose violin sizes
Violins are available in 8 different sizes: 4/4 (also called full size), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32. Size 4/4 is the biggest and size 1/32 is the smallest. All adults, regardless of their size, use the size 4/4 violin.
The violin size determined by the neck/wrist approach would be the size that is more comfortable for students to hold. The violin size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use. The following table lists the length of each violin size.

Question: | Is this violin enought for an adult beginner |
Answer: | Go with a 3/4 or 4/4. Your child's teacher should measure their arm length and be able to tell you exactly which would be the better fit. |
Question: | Extra strings |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | is the size for a adult |
Answer: | Everything is included. Bought this for my granddaughter last year. She has used it to take lessons this year and loves it. |
Question: | is the size for a adult |
Answer: | Using the rosin cake that came with it, we also got no sound. After using a different rosin cake from another violin, it worked perfectly. Only after doing that did I see that the description here recommends rubbing it for 5 minutes. Maybe the included rosin needs that to get "primed" |
