13 best full size violins
A full-size violin, also known as a 4/4 violin, is the standard and largest size in the violin family. Here's what you need to know about full-size violins:
Size and Dimensions: A full-size violin typically has a body length of approximately 14 inches (35.5 cm) and a total length of around 23.5 inches (59.7 cm). It is designed to be played by adults and older teenagers.
Tuning: Like all violins, a full-size violin is tuned to the notes G, D, A, and E from low to high. The strings are usually made of materials like steel or gut, and they produce different tones when bowed or plucked.
Construction: Violins are typically crafted from various types of wood, with spruce often used for the top (soundboard) and maple for the back, sides, and neck. The type and quality of wood, as well as the craftsmanship, can significantly impact the sound and playability of the instrument.
Sound and Tone: The sound of a full-size violin can vary widely depending on factors such as the wood used, the varnish, and the skill of the luthier (violin maker). A well-made full-size violin should have a balanced, warm tone with good projection.
Accessories: Full-size violins are usually sold as outfits that include essential accessories such as a bow, a case, and sometimes rosin. The bow is typically made from horsehair and can be tightened or loosened to produce different sounds.
Playing Technique: Playing the violin requires proper technique, including holding the bow correctly, finger placement on the fingerboard, and precise bowing. Learning to play the violin can be challenging but rewarding with practice.
Genres: Violins are versatile instruments that are used in various musical genres, including classical, folk, country, and contemporary music. They are an integral part of orchestras, string quartets, and other ensembles.
Maintenance: To keep a full-size violin in good condition, it should be stored in a suitable case when not in use to protect it from dust and damage. Additionally, regular maintenance includes changing strings, cleaning, and occasional adjustments by a professional luthier.
Price Range: The cost of a full-size violin can vary widely, from affordable student models to high-end professional instruments. The price is influenced by factors such as craftsmanship, materials, and brand reputation.
Learning and Education: Many people start learning to play the violin at a young age, but it is never too late to begin. Violin lessons with a qualified teacher can help students develop their skills and musicality.
Full-size violins are beautiful and versatile instruments that have been a part of musical culture for centuries. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, choosing a violin that suits your needs and preferences is essential for enjoying the instrument to its fullest. Proper care and maintenance will ensure that your full-size violin remains a valuable musical companion for years to come.

Question: | does this item come with an extra set of strings |
Answer: | hi Kyle D...no, I thought the violin would look like the picture because the wood looks rich and the violin strings looks like it would have a deep sound to it. Answer: | The top button changes the pitch: ie 440 (which is standard pitch) to a faster pitch and turns the tuner off and on. The bottom button changes the instrument to be tuned: violin, viola, cello & base. Hope this helps. |
Question: | what bridge does this come with |
Answer: | The clip opens to 1 1/4 inch at the widest. Don't know if that's large enough for your bass. |
Question: | Does the actual violin that will ship look anything like this |
Answer: | It responds as quickly as any tuner meaning you can check long notes, but not short ones. However, the center markers for pitch are white with yellow ones on each side which means there's little contrast to see while you're playing. So I think it would be tough to monitor your pitch while playing. |

How to choose violin sizes
Violins are available in 8 different sizes: 4/4 (also called full size), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32. Size 4/4 is the biggest and size 1/32 is the smallest. All adults, regardless of their size, use the size 4/4 violin.
To measure what size violin best suits you, you need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm (when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body, just like holding a violin). Most of the teachers prefer students to use the length from the neck to the wrist for measurement instead of the neck to mid-palm approach. The violin size determined by the neck/wrist approach would be the size that is more comfortable for students to hold. The violin size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use. The following table lists the length of each violin size. Find your length using your preferred approach and use that to determine the size of violin to get.
If you have a teacher, you should ask for your teacher's recommendation. If you don't have a teacher, we would recommend using the neck/wrist approach for students not using full size; for students who are deciding whether to used size 3/4 or size 4/4, use the neck/mid-palm approach. This is because it is always better those students feeling comfortable holding and playing the violin. However, while deciding between size 3/4 and size 4/4, if neck/mid-palm approach allows for size 4/4, then buying a size 4/4 is more economical since you don't have to buy another bigger size violin later. This is completely based on economical consideration. You should still decide what best suits your need.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with the accesories in the picture |
Answer: | Everything that is in the picture comes in the case. |
Question: | If my daughter is 10, what size should I get |
Answer: | I got the 4/4 size however my grandaughter has the 7/8 and she is 10. The violins are so close in size its hard to tell the difference however her bow in lenght is shorter. |
Question: | Would this 1/4 fit a small 7 year old |
Answer: | 5 -7 yrs about 18"arm span 1/47-9yrs about 20"arm span 1/2 |
Question: | Can this be used as a fiddle |
Answer: | The bridge is the difference. A fiddle is a violin with a flatter bridge and a violin with a rounded bridge is played in the classic style and just called violin. Fiddle, as some mentioned is related to folk, country western, zydeco, bluegrass, folksy types of music. This is because the flatter bridge allows one to play chords more easily by making it easier to bow two or more strings at once. Whereas a standard violin with rounded bridge is easier to bow single notes as one would in an orchestral setting. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello, i am very interested in the article, but i live in ecuador, is it possible that you are sent through fedex to my country |
Answer: | Sorry that I didn't respond earlier. I saw it briefly on my phone and couldn't find it again!! No, it is not wood. It is plastic but it sounds pretty good. I also have a Schreiber wooden alto recorder. Several of the group that I play with have enrolled in a Road Scholar's early music seminar at the end of October in Carmel, CA. Looking forward to it! Good luck in your recorder search. |
Question: | Our violin did not have directions on how to get started. Is there a manual I can request in how to set up the violin for first time |
Answer: | Mine did come with the clip-on thumb-rest, which is a necessity for this alto recorder. |
Question: | Does this violin come with a horse hair or natural hair bow |
Answer: | Depends. I have small to medium hands and it is a bit of a stretch to reach the last two holes comfortably. With practice I was able to do it. I like the tone of an Alto over the Soprano. For a Resin Recorder the Aulos has a good tone almost like a natural Maplewood. I use my Aulos for practice and my Mollenhauer Cherrywood for shorter playing times. |
Question: | I am assuming it doesn't come with the stand...where can I acquire a stand as shown or similar to it |
Answer: | Sorry for the delay. Just found it and it is model 209B. And it comes with the thumb rest. Hope it helps. Happy New Year! |

Eastar EVA-330 4/4 Solid Wood Violin Set with Two Bow
- The original intention of this violin design is to help beginners quickly find the position, strictly follow the violin fingering position during the initial study and daily training, and form a good muscle memory.
- It should be noted that the tuning of the violin is not an easy task. If you find that the EVA-330 tuning in your hand is difficult, please search for a professional tuning course. Novice tuning is easy to break the strings, so be sure to learn to tune and then tune yourself.
Set a Bridge
The bridge should be left high and low right, and the bridge should coincide with the midpoint of the vi hole of the violin.
When setting a bridge, please first loosen the violin string. After placing the bridge in place, the string is inserted into the limit of the bridge, and the tuning can be used normally.
Adjustment Knob
The function of the fine adjustment knob is to help the violinist to make parts for tuning.
- Loosen the adjustment knobA
- Adjust the violin neck knob to about 10 cents lower than the standard tone.P
- Press the top knob to fix the pitchG
- Gently tighten the knob until the pitch is exactly positionedA
- Adjust A D first and then adjust G E
Note: It is common for the string instuments that the state of new strings are unstable. It takes a few more tunings to stabilize the pitch.
Solid wood Inlay
The EVA-330 is a solid wood violin with a fuller tone and a brighter sound than the platen line violin. The both sides of the violin is inlaid with copper wire, which can protect the wood of the violin.
The wood will be slightly deformed during storage. The inlaid copper wire is more beautiful than the painted line and can prevent the wood from being portable. Damage to the structure of the violin.
Practice Bow
Unbleached Mongolian horsehair, natural, tough. The violin bow is a consumable item, please pay attention to two points.
1: The bow is a relatively fragile accessory. If it is used improperly, the bow of the bow will break or partially fall off. The bow lacking part of the bow can be used continuously.
2: The new bow is not able to sound, you need to rub the rosin powder to have a sound.

1: The bow is a relatively fragile accessory. If it is used improperly, the bow of the bow will break or partially fall off. The bow lacking part of the bow can be used continuously.
2: The new bow is not able to sound, you need to apply the rosin powder.
Fine Adjustment Knob
The function of the fine adjustment knob is to help the violinist to make parts for tuning.
- Loosen the adjustment knobA
- Adjust the violin neck knob to about 10 cents lower than the standard tone.P
- Press the top knob to fix the pitchG
- Gently tighten the knob until the pitch is exactly positionedA
- Adjust A D first and then adjust G E
Note: It is common for the string instuments that the state of new strings are unstable. It takes a few more tunings to stabilize the pitch.
Adjust a Chin Rest
You can adjust the tightness of the chin rest with a small screwdriver, or you can change the sapling of jujube or ebony according to your own style.
Rosin can increase the friction of the bow and strings to make the violin sound. Please use rosin before playing.

It not only looks more professional, but remains true to historical, tried-and-true standards of hand-crafted violin making. That gives this instrument a warmer and more projective sound than competing student violins at the same cost point.

The entire visual feeling is fashionable and exquisite, plus a beautiful sound quality; made through the Italian traditional craftsmanship with deliberate care and delicacy------which makes it a fine art work. This style is fit for the people of calm and pretty characters.
Notes:
- Just like all of other new violins, you may need to retune strings first few times when you start to play.
- When cleaning, please using soft cloth to clean the body and strings, and loose the hair of the bow after playing.
- In order to not damage the violin when shipping, the bridge may be under the fine tuners with a white paper package. You can put the bridge on the right place just like our pictures showed before you retune the strings.
- How to keep strings in tune: push the pegs inward as you tune the strings up to pitch. This ensures that the pegs hold tighter as the tension of the string goes up. If it does not work, use peg compound to help lock the pegs in place. You can also apply chalk (or rosin cake) onto the pegs where it is inserted into the peg box.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this vif 200A |
Answer: | I think this at this price is the BV250. If you look at the finish the 250 is high gloss varnish and the cheaper 200 is more of a matte/satin finish. The 250 looks to have better woods as well and may represent the first cut with the cheaper 200's as the pieces that didn't sound or look as good before finishing. I wish the seller would make clear the model number in the listing but perhaps they think that will make it look worse than eg Cecilio 300 level...it's probably better than Cecilio. |
Question: | is violin labeled inside |
Answer: | Yes it is |
Question: | Is there any warranty or quality guarantee on this |
Answer: | We provide a 30-day return policy and 90-day manufacturer warranty for our products so you do not have to worry about it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Whats the difference between mv400 and the cvn |
Answer: | CVN-300 has better wood quality than MV400. The CVN-300 has a bright and vibrant tone that produces a clear and crisp sound. |
Question: | Are the bows prerosined? I want to use one as a practice bow |
Answer: | No. They are not prerosined--but it does come with the rosin for you to do yourself. |
Question: | Do you ship to the Philippines |
Answer: | We are sorry to tell you that we do not ship to Philippines. |
Question: | Does this violin come assembled |
Answer: | I am a luthier and my wife is a violin teacher. One of her students brought me this exact violin (MV400) to have set up work done. Here is a list of what needed to be done: Refit the bridge feet, thin bridge blank, carve out excess wood from bridge, lower bridge arch for proper string heights, fit pegs and re-drill peg holes, lower and reprofile nut and re-slot string grooves, new tailpiece (cheap tailpiece only lasted 2 weeks before fine tuners seized up), new strings (cheap strings sounded truly awful, and started fraying after 2 weeks), remove excess varnish from neck/ fingerboard joint and smooth, and finally a new soundpost. The fingerboard was adequate, and I left it alone. The instrument itself is not terrible, and the pegs and fingerboard were of reasonable quality, but the tailpiece and string quality and very inadequate setup will have you spending an additional $200-$300 and I haven't even mentioned the awful bow, crummy shoulder rest, and crummy rosin. The instrument sounds reasonably good now after all the work, though at the end of the day, you still have a $100 violin. You really get what you pay for. |
