User questions & answers

Question: Will this be effective with a bass guitar
Answer: I use it with a MicroKorg synth patches with pretty heavy bass. So it's likely. However, I haven't tried it with my bass guitar
Question: Would this pedal be good for bass? I saw in an interview Juan Alderrete say this is a good budget pedal if your trying to get tones like the boss cs
Answer: Yes this pedal works well for bass
Question: If CL9 compressor is on 120 volt power supply (not battery) and if there is power interruption, is the device on or off when power is restored
Answer: The unit is off when power is restored.
Question: I never used a compression/limiter. Does it affect the decay of the note at all
Answer: To be honest, all this pedal seemed to do was add some annoying noise to the signal. I Could barely notice any sound quality difference. But to be fair I bought it for an electric bass guitar so maybe it works better with a six string electric guitar. But I’d give it a thumbs down for electric bass guitar. Not a good pedal.

Compressor/Sustainer CS400

By pumping up quieter notes and bringing down the louder ones, this little magic box packages your sound into one velvety-smooth and consistent volume. With the CS400 in your pedalboard – you’ll enjoy virtually-endless sustain and ultra-stable dynamics!

What is a Compressor?

Dynamics play an important role in music; they help to convey emotion, whether it’s a sweet and sultry blues solo – or the relentless gallop of molten metal. But uncontrolled dynamics can take all your best intentions and turn them into so much well mush. That’s where compression comes to the rescue – softening loud sounds, and boosting low signal levels that often get lost in the mix. So the primary function of a compressor is to make every note the same volume level. The resulting compressed signal creates a much more dense, impactful sound, with richness and room for your subtle nuances coming through – like never before.

Balancing Act

Ever notice how some strings on your guitar or bass sound louder than others? This is partly due to physics; strings with lower mass just don’t put out as much volume as the heavier ones. When used properly, a compressor makes all of the strings the same volume. Compressors are also great for slap-style bass players, making thumb slaps, string pulls and muted notes all the same volume, for an extremely percussive effect.

Easy to Operate

You can dial in the right amount of compression using the dedicated Attack and Sustain dials. The Level control allows you to set the output to subtle, or engage a monster volume boost. Tone lets you add exactly the right level of highs. From clean, snappy country leads to rock solos that scream for eons, the CS400 is built to make your sound the center of attention. The bright stays LED tells you when the CS400 is on, and the top-quality on/off switch maintains outstanding signal integrity in bypass mode. You can power this scene-stealer with either a 9 V battery or our PSU-SB DC power supply (not included).

Sound Value

Push the good stuff to center stage with the Compressor/Sustainer CS400. This pedal smoothes out volume peaks and provides endless sustain with ultra-stable dynamics via the dedicated Sustain, Level and Attack time controls – for the ultimate in sound shaping. Try the CS400 at your local authorized dealer today, or grab one online – and get your 'smooth' on!

User questions & answers

Question: Is this pedal have reverse polarity
Answer: No... standard battery power source, mine is powered with a power block, standard in a pedal boards set up. Didn’t require anything special, as for its internal construction I’m in America so plug and play away, you will go through battery’s fast so get a power block some come as sets with everything you need including multiple voltage choices since certain pedals require specific power voltage. Play on...
Question: Can this be used with an acoustic guitar as well
Answer: Yes, If your acoustic guitar is equiped with an electronic pickup.
Question: Can get the distortion of Metallica's "...and justice for all" album with this, palm mute and everything
Answer: No, it's closer to snarly overdrives than that kind of thrash. You'd wanna try their ultra distortion or ultra metal pedals instead.
Question: Will this get the same effect as a tube screamer
Answer: No it won't. Better to buy a tube screamer for that. If you are on a budget the Joyo vintage overdrive will get you closer than this one.

Now the LEDs on the frequency sliders illuminate in varying levels of intensity, showing you exactly which bands need to be adjusted for optimal performance.

This is especially handy for eliminating the low-frequency feedback typically associated with hollow-body, electric-acoustic and upright basses.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this digital or silicone pedal
Answer: Silicone analog i belive
Question: What chip(s) does this use
Answer: No clue...but its 25 bux and pretty awesome for the price..yeap its plastic but its 25 bux.. type 2 fuzz is my favorite. Sounds like fumanchu
Question: Would any 9v battery (6lr61 size) itself would run the pedal? if it does, how do i turn it off? do i get to take in/out the battery every single use
Answer: Yes on the battery. The pedal turns on and off with the foot switch. You dont have to remove the battery to turn it off. Unplug the input cord will also turn off the pedal. I use a multi tap adapter with mine as they are cheaper in the long run.
Question: Does the pedal vary the fuzz or is it just on/off fuzz switch
Answer: This is a direct clone of the Boss Hyper Fuzz, which in turn was a super-high-gain clone of something else (I lost track). The design is such that the pedal's gain control does very little, and the pedal does not clean up with the guitar's volume knob. Essentially, you get two fuzz sounds, plus EQ, as well as a very useful clean boost function. It puts serrations into your single-note lead lines, and extra power into power chords; and it can help create a titanic parallel bass tone. Anything more complicated than that, even major third intervals, will go to mush. That said, Boss Hyper Fuzz pedals are $250 and up on Reverb as of this writing, which is fool's money if you ask me, considering the limited range of the design. $25 is a better price, even if you find yourself only using the boost function and EQ most days.

User questions & answers

Question: can it be used with the 286s mic preamp from dbx
Answer: The compressor has inserts and XLR connectors in/out and you could probably chain any other rack gear to the 266xs.I am not really familiar with the 286s mic preamp but I am sure there is a way to use it.I have to say this dbx 266xs is a really nice compressor and very easy to use.
Question: im new at this and i have question about the button on the back that says operating level, what level do you use +4db or -10db and why
Answer: Consumer grade audio equipment and computer sound cards typically have line inputs which run at -10 db. Professional grade equipment like the dbx 286s can output line levels in the range -10 to +4 db. The 286s can output any signal level in that range. The switch on the back is provided so that the 286s can be connected to consumer grade equipment without damaging the driven device. Please note: Applying a +4 db audio output into a -10 db audio input could cause damage to the input device. Care should be exercised whenever connecting professional grade equipment to consumer grade equipment. This information is also covered in the dbx 286s user manual.
Question: is this compressor good for studio vocals
Answer: I think it does a good job for the money. I have one channel going into one mixer that I use to record through the aux input and the other channel going into another mixer that I use to monitor. Of course the monitoring mixer's settings are different and much more aggressive. I think it does a good job on the recordings and provides a much more useful signal for monitoring. Keep in mind this acts like a basic compressor and with vocals it's more like a soft knee limiter. If you are buying it to create a different tone with warmth and more bass, then you need to spend a lot more money and get tubes into the signal. I like mine a lot. I would buy it again. If you are using it for vocal recording, you'll probably want to be conservative with it and use a VST processor for the heavy lifting. With a VST, you can try out different parameters and not get stuck with them if there is too much attack, decay, compression, etc. I don't use the gates on this thing since I can program a gate with recording software instead. I leave the gates wide open. It's just better to manually edit out silence with a vocal on a dry track and add in reverb and spatial effects later than allowing a piece of hardware to do it.
Question: How would I connect a scarlett 2i2 to this
Answer: Question: what is a scarlet 2i2???

User questions & answers

Question: Can you plug straight into a passive speaker cab with this and get any sound
Answer: I would say that you might be able to plug into the FX Return of an amp and just use the power amp section. Otherwise, you would still need a clean power amp. I used to do that with my SansAmp BDDDI all the time.
Question: The led just flashes forever, changed the tube, thinking bad pedal
Answer: the LED should only flash until the tube is warmed up. Might want to try another tube. Did it keep flashing with the original tube?Bear in mined that I tried swapping a few tubes including NOS ones, and preferred the one it shipped with. YMMV...
Question: Its possible get a big muff violin like sound with this pedal
Answer: I don't think so. This pedal, amazing by the way, is an overdrive and gives you a good sustain but it's different than big muff's violin sound. The proposal and the sound are different because big muff is a fuzz pedal. It's architecture and circuits are different.
Question: Can this unit be used for harmonica playing also
Answer: Any overdrive pedal can be used to create an overdrive sound to a harmonica mic provided it's wired for a high impedance 1/4 phone jack. It should be noted that any mic used with overdrives or overdriven amps are more prone to feedback.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this be good for a Metallica sound
Answer: somewhat
Question: Should one own the Joyo JF-02 along with this UM300? What are the benefits of having both in the matter of effects? Any 9Volt Power adapter will work for this
Answer: the UM300 has plenty of distortion and does not need any more overdrive, like the Joyo. I think the UM300 is better than a Boss HM2 or their Metalzone. I see other complain about feed back, maybe try turning down the distortion or level. I run mine with distortion @ halfway up to 3 Oclock and my level @ half. On the adapter center pin is negative and d the outside is positive. It is a small plug in, but is what i'd consider standard for this device. Nice pedal for the $$$ IMO. I remember back n the day paying almost $200 for a Boss HM2, what a waste!
Question: Can I use this with a headphone? In other words does it have a built in pre-amp
Answer: Yes. But, it's a mono connection. So, you'll hear it in only one side of the headphones. Also, it sounds pretty terrible. This pedal, in particular, needs an equalizer in the chain - or in your Digital Audio Workstation if you plug it into your computer. Otherwise, the pedal sounds very 'tinny' with high treble - no matter how you set the tone control. ALL distortion pedals or overdrive pedals need an equalizer.
Question: Can I use this with a bass
Answer: Yes that's what I use it with

Ultra Metal UM300

In the churning, smoldering world of heavy metal, it’s the middle frequencies that make all the difference between mush and muscle. With the UM300 Ultra Metal, you not only get control over the Mids – you can micromanage them!

Metal to the Max

The UM300 effects pedal gives you the most extreme, sought-after hard rock and heavy metal sounds, with super-thick, tube-like distortion – plus virtually endless sustain.

The Art of Tone

Like most distortion boxes, the UM300 comes with Distortion and Level controls, and the High and Low controls let you dial in the amount of top-end and bottom you desire – but the similarity to other stomps ends right there. Much like our world-class mixing consoles, we’ve given the UM300 a Mid Frequency control, allowing you to select a midrange frequency (from 200 Hz - 5 kHz) and boost/cut it by up to 15 dB. What this means in terms of tone, is thick, tube-like distortion with endless sustain for everything from aggressive, traditional metal assaults – to the ultimate in modern crunch! A brilliant status LED tells you when the UM300 is active, while a top-quality on/off switch maintains highest signal integrity in bypass mode. You can power the UM300 with our PSU-SB DC power supply (not included), or pop in a 9 V battery.

Massive in the Middle

Is there a hole in the middle of your tone? You’ll be surprised how affordably and efficiently the Ultra Metal UM300 can fill it! Take off with the most extreme and sought-after hard rock or heavy metal distortion – at your BEHRINGER dealer today, or order online.

Based on 597 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Studio effects processors sound really good, but they can bulky, complicated and expensive. Now you can have all the power and great sound of studio-grade, stereo effects processing, thanks to the ultra-affordable, and easy-to-use DIGITAL MULTI-FX FX600.

Six different modulation effects in one pedal.

Select your effect and adjust two separate parameters and the effect/clean level.

Add Behringer's PSU-SB power supply or go with a 9 volt battery.

Stellar Sounds

This studio-in-a-box features Flanger, Chorus, Phaser, Delay, Tremolo and Pitch Shifter, all in mind-blowing 24-bit/40 kHz resolution that turns everyday riffs into 3-D epics from the outer limits.

  • Chorus: This effect slightly detunes the original signal. A very pleasant detune effect is created in connection with the pitch variation.

  • Flanger: Originally, the flanger effect was generated with two tape recorders running synchronously. The same audio signal was recorded on both machines. If you put a finger on the left spool of one of the machines, the spool and the playback speed are slowed down. The generated delay results in phase shifting of the signals.

  • Phaser: With the phaser, a second, phase-shifted signal is added to the original audio signal. The resulting sound is thicker and above all livelier.

  • Pitch Shifter: The pitch shifter slightly detunes the audio signal.

  • Tremolo: The tremolo effect is achieved by periodic modulation of the input signal level. This results in a continuous change from low to high level that lends a quivering, tremulous sound character.

  • Delay: A delay of the input signal with various repetitions.

Simple Operation

Just select one of the six effects with the dedicated FX knob, and then use the two parameter dials to fine-tune the effect. The LEVEL control determines how much of the effect is mixed with the original signal.

Dependable Operation

The bright LED tells you when the FX600 is activated, and the first-class on/off switch maintains incredible signal integrity in bypass mode. And you get flexible powering as well--power the DD400 with a 9 V battery or a DC power adapter (not included).

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone used this pedal on a keyboard? If so, how is the sound
Answer: I use with trumpet and vocal. I suppose it would be cool with the keyboard also
Question: Can anyone tell me about the pitch shifter effect? I need a smooth, continuous sweep, both up and down at least a half octave. Does it sound good
Answer: Well the Pitch Shifter Effect has an Octave up & an Octave down, for the price the pedal does a decent job, BUT! About the Pitch Shifter Effect it sounds double. You can listen what I mean here in this video: https://youtu.be/UTisYmOUwiU?t=1m49s
Question: Does this pedal have echo on it too
Answer: Hi, no echo but has a delay and tremolo. I like the pedal because it also has a phaser, chorus, flanger and pitch shifter. Good pedal for the price.
Question: Can you do several effects at once
Answer: No, the knob goes in sequence from one effect to another. The effects are weak, chorus is OK. However I bought mine in Aug. and it died in Sept. 3 days after the 30 day Amazon return. It is warranted by Behringer for 3 years, but impossible to find a way to return or device.. Don't buy it. It is a $40. paperweight!

User questions & answers

Question: Does this thing alter the PITCH of the signal, or the AMPLITUDE (another word for “volume
Answer: It alters the pitch, not the amplitude. Tremolo alters the amplitude, but in some inexplicable applications (e.g., early Fenders) was called vibrato ...
Question: Does this require a special power supply
Answer: It runs on any typical 9V pedal power supply. It does not draw a large amount of current so you can use a one spot daisy chain for it just fine.
Question: Is this essentially a mod core, or does it work similarly to one
Answer: I really like this pedal because it is like an old school vibrato pedal. Works well. No...it is not a mod core pedal.
Question: What is the rise knob suppose to do? I hear no sound change at all no matter where the setting is. Is my pedal defective? Anyone with this issue
Answer: The rise knob when turned on will ease the effect in. If you want an instantaneous effect, turn it off. (Hard left)
