14 best diamond compressor pedals
Diamond compressor pedals are specialized musical equipment used by guitarists to shape and enhance the dynamics of their electric guitar playing. These pedals belong to the category of guitar effects known as "compression" or "compressor" pedals, and they play a crucial role in achieving a balanced and controlled sound. Here's what you should know about diamond compressor pedals:
Compression Effect: A compressor pedal, including those from Diamond, is designed to smooth out the volume levels of your guitar playing. It does this by reducing the dynamic range—the difference between the loudest and softest parts of your guitar signal.
Sustain Enhancement: One of the primary functions of a compressor pedal is to enhance sustain. By compressing the signal, the pedal allows notes and chords to ring out longer, which can be particularly useful for lead guitar solos.
Attack Control: Diamond compressor pedals often feature controls for adjusting the attack of your guitar notes. This means you can shape how quickly or slowly the compression engages after you pick a note. It gives you control over the initial "punch" of your guitar sound.
Threshold and Ratio: Compressor pedals typically have threshold and ratio controls. The threshold sets the level at which compression starts to kick in, while the ratio determines how much the pedal compresses the signal once it exceeds the threshold.
Volume Control: Most compressor pedals, including Diamond compressors, have a volume control that allows you to make up for any lost signal strength caused by compression. This ensures that your overall output level remains consistent.
Tone Control: Some Diamond compressor models also offer a tone control, allowing you to shape the tonal characteristics of your compressed signal. This can be useful for brightening or warming up your guitar sound.
True Bypass: Many Diamond compressor pedals are designed with true bypass circuitry, which ensures that the pedal doesn't color your guitar tone when it's turned off. This maintains the integrity of your guitar's original sound.
Build Quality: Diamond is known for its high-quality construction and attention to detail. Their compressor pedals are often built to last, with durable components and sturdy enclosures.
Versatility: While primarily used with electric guitars, compressor pedals can also be used with other instruments, including bass guitars and keyboards, to achieve smoother dynamics.
Musical Styles: Compressor pedals, including Diamond compressors, are used in various musical styles, from rock and blues to country and funk. They can be an essential tool for achieving a polished and controlled guitar sound.
In summary, Diamond compressor pedals are well-regarded in the world of guitar effects for their ability to enhance sustain, shape dynamics, and control the volume of electric guitar signals. These pedals offer various controls and are known for their build quality and versatility, making them a valuable addition to a guitarist's pedalboard.

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a single coil strat and fender silverface champ.is the pedal noisy? i am wanting a tighter more biting trebley tone at times, will this work |
Answer: | No noise from this pedal at all, though it very well could enhance the noise off of your singles. Compression is top notch and would certainly give your Strat more bite. I have a Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar and I wouldn't trade this pedal for any other--it's the best. |
Question: | Does this come with an AC adapter (or does one need a pedal board)? Thanks for any help |
Answer: | It does not come with AC adapter...you could get something like a multi power supply combo and a pedal board which I did with the Diamond. |
Question: | Since the attack time is not variable but instead is preset, is the attack pre- setting satisfactory and not too quick to start compressing |
Answer: | Since it's an optical compressor, it's much more transparent (even at higher comp settings) than say, a Ross-type compressor like an Xotic SP or anything trying to be noticeablely squishy. It sounds fantastic and could easily be an "always-on" pedal depending on the application. In fact, whenever I am playing clean, I always have it on. But I lose it for my overdriven sounds because I don't like sacrificing the attack and transients that happen with my main overdrive pedal (J Rockett Archer Ikon). |

Recording studios often use rackmount "vocal channels"; a mic preamp, compressor, and EQ all in one unit as a front end for vocal recording. The Diamond Compressor is Diamond's take on a "guitar channel". It's a dynamics and tone shaping tool for live and studio use, constructed with low noise, ultra linear signal buffering, smooth opto based compression, and a versatile "tilt" EQ that musically shifts overall frequency balance. All in a user-friendly 3-control package - just Comp, EQ and Volume.
- Post-compressor 'tilt' EQ provides a very musical tailoring of frequency response - seamlessly transition from a darker jazz voicing to a brighter jangle, with flat frequency response at the center detent position.
- Premium audio components, including 2% polypropylene capacitors,1% metal film resistors and a pro audio grade opamp (our signal path opamp alone costs 8 to 10 times what the industry norm uses).

Following in the footsteps of the original BCP1, the new Bass Comp Jr offers the same high quality optical compression and a simple but effective Tilt style EQ control with selectable center frequency (900Hz or 250Hz), an extended frequency response and high headroom to suit a wide variety of passive or active 4/5/6 string basses. All in a smaller, more pedalboard friendly package that is compatible with a wider range of pedalboard power supplies. The Diamond Bass Comp Jr is designed to be powered from either a 9V battery (included), standard 9V negative tip DC power adapter or from a multi pedal power supply. However, for maximum headroom and tone, we recommend using a negative tip, 18V power supply. Current draw of the Bass Comp Jr is very low- only 20mA.
- Selectable 250Hz or 900Hz EQ tilt point
- Optimized gain staging and use of ultra low noise transistors and opamps in the signal path for lowest possible noise and extended signal headroom
- Premium audio components, including Elna electrolytic capacitors, 2% film capacitors and 1% metal film resistors
- Bi-color LED provides visual indication of depth of compression
- True Bypass operation

Diamond Pedals Comp Jr. When we began work on the original Diamond Compressor back in 2004, our goal was to build a versatile guitar channel a dynamics and tone shaping tool to front-end your effects chain much like the gain, compression and EQ channels used in traditional recording studio mixers. Introduced at MusikMesse 2005 in Frankfurt, the Diamond Compressor has found its way onto thousands of pedal boards worldwide and our sincere thanks to all those who have supported us over the years. Since introducing the original comp, weve released a version tailored to the bass (the Bass Comp), as well as a special audiophile edition of the comp called the Comp SE. Throughout this time, weve also had many requests for a more compact version of the original Diamond Compressor Now introducing the Diamond Comp Jr! Diamond Pedals Comp Jr. Features: vactrol opto-isolator variable resistance path as used in high-end studio compressors for smooth attack and decay characteristics while preserving initial signal transients. post-compressor tilt EQ provides a very musical tailoring of frequency response seamlessly transition from a darker jazz voicing to a bright jangle, with flat frequency response at the center detent position. optimized gain staging and use of ultra low noise transistor and opamps in signal path for lowest possible noise and extended signal headroom. premium audio components, including tight tolerance Panasonic PPS capacitors and metal film

Diamond Pedals Bass Comp Compressor Now Shipping! The original Diamond Compressor has become one of our most well known products, loved by players for it's smooth response and ability to enhance your instruments tone. Turns out that bass players have discovered the Compressor (many via it's discussion on the TalkBass online forums) and while it generally works great for 4-string passive basses, the performance with 5/6 strings and high output active basses was less than ideal as the frequency response and headroom was optimized for guitar use.
Our response to that interest is the new dedicated Bass Comp, the first Diamond pedal designed specifically for bass players. With low frequency response extending down to 20Hz and increased headroom, the Bass Compressor is ideal for 4/5/6 string basses, both active and passive.
We've also revoiced the Tilt EQ control, offering bassists the choice of the original 900Hz tilt point or a new 250Hz setting, accessible via a mini toggle. Diamond Pedals Bass Comp Compressor Features: Smooth, optical compression/limiting Premium audio components, including 2% polypropylenecapacitors,1% metal film resistors and a pro audio grade opamp (our signal path opamp alone costs 8 to 10 times what the industry norm uses). Innovative 'tilt' EQ provides a very musical tailoring of frequency response - selectable 900Hz or 250Hz tilt point Dual AC capacitive coupling paths for improved transient response True bypass signal path 18V power
- Diamond Pedals has a full five year parts/labor warranty on all pedals.

Question: | Can this run on a 1 spot daisy chain type power supply |
Answer: | Yes, I run mine off of one. |
Question: | How many milliamps does it require |
Answer: | It requires at least 10milliamps according to the instructions. I have been using it attached to a multi-output power supply at 9VDC, 100mA and it operates and sounds great. A 9 volt battery is also an option for this, but I'm assuming that's not what most are looking to do. |
Question: | Where's this pedal made |
Answer: | Oklahoma, U.S.A. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used on a Bass guitar |
Answer: | Yes it can! I just got mine today and tried it out on an Epiphone EB-0 bass which took that super fat bass sound and enhanced the attack, smoothed out the dynamics and gave a nice overall boost to the sound. I had similar results with an Ibanez 5 string that has passive single coil pickups. I was originally looking at a couple other compressors that have a blend knob on them. This comp was so inexpensive I figured I would try it anyway and if I did't like it I wouldn't be out much money. Well it turns out I really like this pedal and I don't need one with a blend because this one does the job in a transparent sort of way that I like. With all knobs at the 12 o'clock position and the treble switch in the up position this little guy works well for my bass sound. The size is nice too. |
Question: | I'm fairly new to compressors. Will this pedal help with sustain on clean slide playing? (Live not studio |
Answer: | without a doubt YES! Listen to any of the first five or so Little Feat albums. That is Lowell George on electric slide. His signature tone used fairly heavy compression to cop wonderful clean sustain. I put my compressor first in my signal chain for the same reason. It also sweetens my overdriven solos. I would feel naked without compression in my rig. |
Question: | anyone compare this with joyo and mooer compressors? thanks |
Answer: | I have not compared to other compressor pedals, but for the price it is a decent little pedal with noticeable sustain/compression. I do find that main knob, the "compression" control, works well but the "level" control is very sensitive. I have to keep mine down below 10 or 11 o'clock, otherwise it just gets very loud. The toggle switch is also effective between normal and treble for a brighter tone. As for the "tone" control, this also needs to be fine tuned as anything past 12 o clock gets very bright, unless that's what you're aiming for. |
Question: | anyone compare this to the behringer compressor |
Answer: | I haven't compared this to the Behringer compressor but I have compared it to a MXR Dyna comp. The Behringer pedals I've had sounded good but were not very well made and crapped out on me after not much use. The Donner is a well built pedal and has a wide range of compression for the price. It is also a pretty quiet compressor compared to the Dyna Comp. I have a few of the smaller footprint pedals (Moore and Ibanez) and this one is built like a tank. For $40 it is a good purchase. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used for a bass as well |
Answer: | Yes, but it's not optimal for bass. A bass compressor would be a better choice. |
Question: | Does the 9 volt fit inside the pedal like other pedals |
Answer: | It does not, there is no internal compartment for a battery, like another stated you have to plug the adapter that comes with it into the 9V DC jack on the side of the pedal, the battery hangs outside of it. |

Wampler Mini Ego Compressor
The Mini Ego Compressor brings a new level of control to your playing level. It will bring quiet parts up and loud parts down with a natural feel like a great tube amp being pushed hard. It is based on the original Ego, but it features tone and attack switches to tweak your tone to a standard of a pedal twice its size. You can also blend in your original signal so you can get the benefits of a great compressor with the option to remove the squash at the front by bringing the bypassed signal in.
Blend
At about noon on the Blend knob, the compressed signal and the (enhanced, boosted, and slightly warmed) clean signal are even in level. Because the signals are in parallel inside the pedal before mixing down to mono at the output, the Blend control acts as a mixer knob. At 50/50, your clean signal's natural note attack is almost unaffected by the Ego Compressor, but once the clean signal naturally fades, the Ego Compressor's compressed signal seamlessly fills in the gaps. This is a process no ear will hear because it's perfectly even and smooth, and the end result is all the benefits of a great compressor but a real, authentic transient.
Volume
This control adjusts the output level of the Mini Ego Compressor. There's plenty of volume on tap, so whether you want to go farther than your input level or just make sure it can do unity volume (the same level of signal going out as you feed it, when active), you're covered. The Sustain and Blend controls will have an effect on the total output volume, so you're probably better off waiting to adjust the Volume until you've dialed in the other controls. Re-adjustment might be necessary if you get it to the desired level and still need to tweak the sound.
Sustain
Sustain controls how hard the Ego Compressor works to maintain the signal within its compression threshold. Higher sustain settings will let your notes go on for a very long time, but be careful, because higher sustain settings also raise the noise floor. If you are running your compressor after overdrive or distortion, you will want to pay close attention to the Sustain knob and maybe back off of it quite a bit so as not to raise the amount of noise to unbearable levels. The Ego Compressor is quiet, by compressor standards, but when the whole point of a pedal is to take a signal, even it out, and make the quiet parts louder and the loud parts quieter, you can expect added noise as part of the process.
Classic Country Squash
Perfect for chickin' pickin'. This setting adds some extra cluck to your pluck.
Smooth Overtunes
Your great tone, but with an added smoothness and clarity that makes your guitar come alive.
Get Funky
You'll be conjuring a Disco ball with these settings.
Clean, Soaring Boost
A focused boost for your amp to fatten up your tone and pop out in the mix.
