14 best pedal with tap tempos

Pedals with tap tempo functionality are a popular feature in the realm of electric guitar effects. These pedals provide a convenient way for musicians to synchronize time-based effects, such as delay and modulation, to the tempo of the music they are playing. Here are key points related to pedals with tap tempo:

  1. Tap Tempo Functionality:

    • The tap tempo feature allows the guitarist to set the tempo of time-based effects by tapping a button with their foot. This ensures that delay repeats, modulation rates, and other time-related effects match the rhythm of the music.
  2. Synchronization of Effects:

    • Pedals with tap tempo are commonly used with delay pedals, where it's crucial to sync the delay time with the tempo of the song. This synchronization creates a more musical and cohesive sound.
  3. Versatility:

    • Tap tempo is not limited to delay effects. It can also be applied to other time-based effects such as tremolo, chorus, flanger, and more. This adds versatility to a guitarist's sound palette.
  4. Integration in Multieffects Units:

    • Many floor multieffects units, which combine multiple effects into a single pedalboard-friendly unit, include pedals with tap tempo. This allows guitarists to control various effects with synchronized timing from a centralized unit.
  5. Expression Pedal Compatibility:

    • Some pedals with tap tempo also allow for connection to an expression pedal. This enables real-time control over certain parameters, providing an extra layer of dynamic expression during a performance.
  6. LED Indicator:

    • Pedals with tap tempo often feature an LED indicator that flashes in sync with the tapped tempo. This visual feedback helps musicians ensure they are in time with the music.
  7. Presets and Memory Banks:

    • Advanced multieffects units with tap tempo often come with preset storage and memory banks. This allows guitarists to save and recall different combinations of effects and tempo settings for different songs or sections within a song.
  8. Placement in Pedalboard Setup:

    • Pedals with tap tempo are strategically placed in a guitarist's pedalboard setup to ensure easy access during a performance. This may involve placing it close to other time-based effects for efficient foot control.
  9. Live Performance Benefits:

    • The tap tempo feature is particularly valuable in a live performance setting where the tempo of songs can vary. It allows for on-the-fly adjustments, ensuring that time-based effects stay in sync with the band.
  10. Popular Brands:

    • Various pedal manufacturers, including industry leaders such as Boss, Strymon, TC Electronic, and Eventide, offer pedals with tap tempo functionality. Each brand may provide unique features and sound options.

Guitarists appreciate pedals with tap tempo for their ability to enhance the musicality of their performance, providing precise control over time-based effects in real-time. This feature has become a standard in many modern pedal designs, catering to the needs of both studio and live musicians.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this replace the mxr m199 tap tempo for the mxr echoplex delay pedal
Answer: Yes, because the default setting of an MXR Echoplex and MXR Tap is Tip-to-Ground. You CANNOT use this with a TC Electronics Flashback 2 without opening the case and soldering the wires in reverse; Flashback 2 requires Ring-to-ground.
Question: Do you know if this would work on a Mooer Ocean Machine to control master tempo
Answer: Not familiar with that product, but it "should" work with anything that uses a non-latching switch (i.e., does not click on/click off) with a 1/4" input.
Question: Is this output trs (tip ring sleeve) or is it ts (tip sleeve) only
Answer: Tip sleeve only. Mono cable
Question: Will this work with a boss dd7 delay pedal
Answer: Sort of. Boss pedals use normally-closed switches, so this will work, but the Boss will count the time between releases and not presses, which can be less accurate.
Question: What, $199? My Bad Monkey cost less than $50 new, what''s the story here
Answer: Great pedal, great reputation, discontinued two years ago. Yes, they were $49.95 new, but new ones are all gone. This is the world of pedals, discontinue it and then everyone wants one, go figure? I have this last new one, the previous new one sold for $179. Your used one, if clean, is worth more than you paid for it new. Keep it and watch the used price as it keeps going up. Boss just discontinued the '63 Fender reverb pedal which was mediocre, after they discontinued it, it soared to $299 for new ones, check it out. Buy discontinued pedals for a good investment.
Question: How is this pedal with bass guitar
Answer: Not sure why someone would need a boost pedal for bass. This is a pedal designed to boost or overdrive a tube amp with minimal color. I have one and it works great. I guess it could be used with a bass for articulation enhancement or drive during certain song sections.
Question: is it a true paypass pedal
Answer: This pedal is not true by-pass, but it is great pedal and one of Digitech's highest selling pedals.
Question: Hi, is that the usa made or chinese made bad monke?. tia
Answer: Although DigiTech is in Sandy, Utah, my Bad Monkey says it was made in China

User questions & answers

Question: What 9v power adapter do you recommend
Answer: ISpot is a good basic 9v... If you're using multiple pedals you can usually Daisy chain 2-3 w/o line hum. If running many pedals you may need a true isolated power supply to avoid line noise/him. I will say it's a pretty good little pedal for the price (and easy to squeeze into a tight pedal board)
Question: Would anyone know and confirm if this is analog or digital delay. how long is the delay time in ms? what about the reverb, is it spring or hall
Answer: delay is advertised as digital, but there is a degrading echo. to me, it sounds more analog. a digital echo will repeat just like the original sound. this pedal doesn't do that. reverb can be set short like a room, or long like a hall. it doesn't have a spring reverb sound. the way the pedal is setup, the delay is fed into the reverb when both are on. it sounds very good for a $60 pedal.
Question: Will this add reverb to voice for beater sounding karaoke
Answer: Most, if not all, pedals for guitar can be used with a 1/4 " jack microphone. The question left is: Is the microphone powered?, does it need a preamp?, or does it create a strong enough signal? Donner has a less expensive reverb that I will reccomend for karaoke. Just find one decent setting and keep it hidden from the singers.
Question: Can you use the reverb and delay at the same time
Answer: Yes... Nice little pedal for the price. It also has a separate footswitch for each function - Rev and Delay. I have it on a pedal board alongside Boss and other pedals and it is also nice with a smaller footprint. Only thing is you have to have a 9v power supply for it since it has no internal battery capabilities. I have a couple other Dinner mini pedals too (compressor and a noise gate) and they are pretty good, especially for the price

User questions & answers

Question: I've noticed that the tempo is lost after turning the pedal off and then back on, is my unit defective
Answer: Hello! We use microbial enzymes to produce this cheese product (versus an animal-based rennet). We hope this helps!
Question: If you tap in a tempo, how can you "save setting" so that when the delay is turned off and back on again, it doesn't revert to a uber-long delay time
Answer: Hello! This product does not contain carrageenan. In fact, all Organic Valley products are free of carrageenan.
Question: the sounds, of the guitar, stops for a while when you turn it on
Answer: Hello! There are 6g total fat (including 4g saturated fat) per 1 slice serving. We hope this helps!

NUX Loop Core Looper Effects Pedal with Tap Tempo Bundle with Blucoil Slim 9V 670ma Power Supply AC Adapter, 2-Pack of Pedal Patch Cables, and 4-Pack of Celluloid Guitar Picks

and if warranty is what concerns you most, then go for the Boss.
That being said, the NUX Loop Core is more comparable to the Boss RC-3 than the RC-1. The RC-3 is around 189.00. So, bang for the buck, feature wise, the NUX wins hands down. The NUX has a 6 hour recording time, 99 slots to save in, 40 rhythm tracks to play along with and on and on. The RC-1 is a basic looper which records for only 12 minutes. If that's all you want you can find cheaper pedals that do the same, or again, pay more for the "long warranty". How likely is it that any of these pedals will fail?

Also consider, with the NUX you do get 90 days warranty direct from Amazon. Check the listing. They'll take care of you if you have problems during that time. Buy a warranty or buy features, up to you. This may not be much help, but if you want more info on the NUX warranty I'd suggest contacting them directly. It's a shame they don't provide such info.

JHS Unicorn V2 Analog Univibe with Tap Tempo Guitar Effects Pedal

    JHS Pedals

Based on 127 reviews Check latest price

    Product description

In 2015 we brought you the Unicorn V1 ...the world's first bulb-driven photocell modulator with tap tempo...our very own Uni-Vibe if you will. This Spring 2018 we are proud to bring you the Unicorn V2! Pink Floyd’s “Breathe,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Star Spangled Banner live at Woodstock 1969," and Robin Trower’s “Bridge of Sighs” cemented the sound of a photocell-based vibe effect as an electric guitar standard. The JHS Pedals Unicorn is our version of this heralded effect, continuing the inspiring modulation/phasing/rotary sounds that never fail to push musical boundaries. And just like the originals, we included a toggle for choosing between a Uni-Vibe* effect and a traditional vibrato setting. What sets Unicorn apart from all other vibe-style circuits is that it is the first-ever fully analog, photocell-based vibe with tap tempo as well as ratio, external tap control, and external rate control via expression pedal (optional). And the Unicorn does it all with only four knobs and a mini-toggle switch. • Control the rate of the effect with the Speed knob or onboard tap-tempo footswitch

    Product features

    JHS Unicorn V2

The Unicorn is our version of the heralded photocell-based vibe effect, continuing the inspiring modulation/phasing/rotary sounds that never fail to push musical boundaries. We included a toggle for choosing between a Uni-Vibe effect and a traditional vibrato setting. It is a fully analog, photocell-based vibe with tap tempo as well as ratio, external tap control, and external rate control via expression pedal, and it does it all with only four knobs and a mini-toggle switch.

Sounds as good as you remember

The Unicorn is bursting with all the lush and washy pulsations that changed what the electric guitar could sound like in the 1960s. And this is no digital emulation. The Unicorn sports the real-deal, analog photocell topology of the original units.

    • Sounds like the originals because it’s built like the originals
    • All-analog signal path delivers a warm, touch-sensitive tone
    • Dry/Wet toggle selects between a Uni-Vibe and vibrato effect

    In-depth tempo control

There are other analog vibe pedals and there are pedals with tap-tempo control, but - if we’re allowed to gloat for a second - the JHS Unicorn is the first to put ‘em together. Add optional external speed control and a ratio knob that determines the rhythmic subdivisions - or as we like to say, how much fairy dust enters into the flux capacitor of the Unicorn - and you have one of the most versatile vibe pedals on the market.

    • Control the rate of the effect with the Speed knob or onboard tap-tempo footswitch
    • Want quarter note, dotted eighth, or triplet rhythms? They’re all on the Ratio knob
    • LED notifies you of the effect’s tempo, even when disengaged

    External tempo and expression control

But wait, there’s more! One of the things that makes the vintage Shin-ei Uni-Vibes so desirable is your ability to control the effect’s rate in real time with an external expression pedal. How could we not include that!? And to go one step further, you can slave the pedal to other tap-controlled pedals for rhythmic consistency across all your effects.

    • Internal Tap/Expression mini switch controls the side-mounted Tap/Exp TRS jack
    • Expression pedal control of the Unicorn’s rate in the Exp setting
    • Use an external source to control the rate in the Tap Out setting (Works great with our Panther Cub and Emperor pedals)

    Couldn’t be easier to use

One of the things we’re most proud of with the Unicorn Uni-vibe Photocell Modulator is how easy it is to dial up the exact pulse of a mystical Unicorn running across a field of 4-leaf clovers…but only if you dare.

    • Four knobs and a mini toggle are all you need for a world of syrupy, modulated tones
    • Left two controls are your tone, right two controls are your speed, toggle is your effect. It’s that simple

    User questions & answers

Question: Does this come with the wall plug
Answer: II have not been able to do but its either one or the other. I use a bike pedal to turn off an on my mind playing the guitar. When I am doing a gig and I know the upcoming songs I will switch if I want to use it on my voice it's a quick plug switch back and forth.I believe it would take two of these units to do both at the same time but I could be wrong there might be something out there to be able to switch back and forth. Either way its real nice effects for both ways guitar and looping is awesome.

    EarthQuaker Devices Avalanche Run V2

A dreamy sonic discovery device with up to 2 seconds of delay time and a lush stereo reverb, the Avalanche Run Stereo Reverb and Delay with Tap Tempo pedal was developed with one goal in mind: take the floating ambient tones of our Dispatch Master to the next level while keeping it user friendly and refined. We are using a high powered proprietary DSP platform to recreate all the characteristics of all our favorite delay and reverb machines while still retaining a simple, yet flexible workspace.

    Time and Repeats

Time: This controls the delay time and goes from 0ms to just under 2000ms.

Repeats: Controls the regeneration of the delay, from zero repeats to near infinite.

    Tone and Mix

Tone: Controls the tone for the delay line only. Roll off highs to the left, roll off lows to the right and get a flat response in the middle.

Mix: The is the volume control for the delay line. This blends in the wet with dry until 1 o’clock, 1 o’clock to 3 o’clock boosts the wet signal over the dry and 3 o’clock up brings down dry until it is fully wet when all the way up.

Expression Jack Assign Switch and Decay

Expression Jack Assign Switch: Use this switch to map the expression jack to one of the assigned controls.

Decay: Controls the decay length of the reverb, short decay counterclockwise, long cavernous decay clockwise.

    Ratio Selector Switch and Mix

Mix: This is the volume control for the reverb. Blends in the wet with dry until 1 O’clock, 1 O’clock to 3 O’clock boosts the wet signal over the dry and 3 O’clock up brings down dry until it is fully wet when all the way up.

Ratio Selector Switch: Selects delay subdivisions when time is set by the 'Tap' switch.

    User questions & answers

Question: Does the Pockecho pedal have an undo function
Answer: No. There is no kill dry switch or functionality. And, the level control will always have dry signal... full counterclockwise is full dry... full clockwise is full wet - added to the dry signal. It’s a nice pedal tho, for the price.
Question: What is the length of the loop? I don't see anything about that. Some have 30 seconds, others have up to 20 minutes. How many loops are possible
Answer: Yes, you can use it with a synth.
Question: Does the Pockecho do batteries
Answer: No power supply is included. I recommend using an isolated unit like One Spot CS5/6 or Pedal Power. Daisy Chain power can get noisy with digital pedals. Flamma recommends 300ma.
Question: Does this come with a power cable or do I need to get my own
Answer: It’s made in China, this pedal is absolutely a game changer for under 100$ though. It’s super lush in stereo and all settings are usable.
