11 best acoustic pickup fishmans
Acoustic-electric guitars are versatile musical instruments that combine the acoustic qualities of a traditional acoustic guitar with the added capability to be amplified electronically. These guitars are popular among musicians who perform in various settings, from intimate acoustic gigs to larger venues that require amplification.
Here are some key features and aspects of acoustic-electric guitars:
Acoustic Sound: Like traditional acoustic guitars, acoustic-electric guitars have a hollow body and produce sound through the vibration of the strings, which is then amplified by the body of the guitar. This produces a warm and natural tone.
Electronics: Acoustic-electric guitars are equipped with electronic components, typically including a pickup and preamp system. The pickup captures the vibrations of the strings, converting them into electrical signals that can be amplified. The preamp allows for control over the tone and volume of the guitar when it's connected to an amplifier or a PA system.
Versatility: The ability to connect an acoustic-electric guitar to an amplifier or sound system makes it highly versatile. Musicians can adjust the volume and tone to suit different performance scenarios, from small acoustic gatherings to large concert stages.
Onboard Controls: Many acoustic-electric guitars feature onboard controls for adjusting volume, tone, and sometimes EQ settings. These controls are conveniently located on the guitar's body, allowing for quick adjustments during a performance.
Output Options: Acoustic-electric guitars typically have an output jack that allows them to be connected directly to an amplifier, mixer, or other audio equipment. Some models also come with built-in tuners, making it easier for musicians to keep their instrument in tune.
Body Styles: Acoustic-electric guitars come in various body styles, such as dreadnought, concert, jumbo, and more. Each body style has its own tonal characteristics, allowing players to choose one that suits their preferred sound.
String Types: Acoustic-electric guitars can be strung with various types of strings, including steel strings and nylon strings. The choice of strings can significantly impact the guitar's tone and playability.
Usage: Acoustic-electric guitars are commonly used in genres like folk, country, rock, and pop. They are also popular among singer-songwriters who need an instrument that can accommodate both strumming and fingerpicking techniques.
Maintenance: Like acoustic guitars, acoustic-electric guitars require regular maintenance, such as string changes, humidification (to protect against changes in humidity), and occasional electronic component checks.
In summary, acoustic-electric guitars offer the best of both acoustic and electric worlds, allowing musicians to enjoy the natural sound of an acoustic instrument while having the option to amplify and shape their tone as needed for various performance situations. Their versatility makes them a popular choice for many guitarists across different musical genres.

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone had trouble with the single coil buzzing or any other kind of noise |
Answer: | Single coil pickups are generally selected because of the unique clarity of the tone they produce, but the trade off is hum, this can be made worse when playing near a dimmer switch or fluorescent lighting, which leak energy, even a bad cable can introduce... they easy remedy is to try to eliminate any sources of leaking electricity, but you may be happier by using a noise gate, which are a common pedal, and shuts of the guitar signal unless a preset amount of signal is present, this way the hum is only there when you are playing and would be less noticeable |
Question: | is this the same as FSM PREP |
Answer: | I am not familiar with the Prep102 but I have been using the Rare Earth in my '73 Martin D-35 and I am very happy with it.Loyal |
Question: | Are the actual dimensions 0.5 x 2 x 3 inches? 3" seems not wide enough |
Answer: | That's a typo in the shipping information. This pickup fits a standard-size sound hole (3 3/4 inch) nicely. I think the low end of the sound hole sizing would be around 3 1/2 inches. Nice product - sounds and looks good, and it clamps safely in place. I have several of these pickups, both active and passive, and I'm pleased with all of them. |
Question: | I'd like to use this pickup with a classical guitar. Does it work with nylon strings |
Answer: | This pickup is a magnetic pickup, which requires steel strings. It will not work on a nylon string guitar. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a Humbucking Pickup or single coil |
Answer: | Single coil. |
Question: | Will this work with nylon strings |
Answer: | I have been using it with my Yamaha FG850 with steel strings. I have heard that they are not good with nylon strings. I do have a GC-series classical Yamaha and will see if it works with nylon strings the next time I am at my son's house (early February). In general, magnetic pickups do not work with nylon strings, so you will probably have to purchase an active pickup for classical guitars, or a piezo piezo pickup such as: https://www.amazon.com/NG-1-Piezo-Pickup-String-Guitar/dp/B00LTL0KLI/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=soundhole+pickup+for+nylon+strings&qid=1609795445&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-3 Sorry I could not be more definitive, but I will gladly check it out and post my results under the Fishman Neo-D Passive Soundhole pickup reviews in a few weeks. |
Question: | will this work for an acoustic bass |
Answer: | Perhaps for a live performance its perfect. One of the better models would be more appropriate for recording |
Question: | Is it for a baby guitar?... the hole is 9cm |
Answer: | I used it on my dreadnaught 12 string. I did put a black version into a 3/4 sized Guitar but had to modify one of the mountin tabs with a file for it to fit. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is it come with two under saddle or just one |
Answer: | Comes with one, which you must choose the size when you order. You must determine the width of your bridge slot, then order the correct one. Also, I installed a preamp. Won't sound good without a preamp. I recommend you talk to a guitar tech and have him install the appropriate pickup, preamp, and then do a setup. If you install this yourself, the pickup will raise your bridge height and change your guitar playability, and he can fix this for you. I installed a preamp from GFS - (guitarfetish.com) - the preamp was GFS EAP-520 - and the Fishman pickup myself, and then took the guitar to a tech for a good setup. Good luck. |
Question: | Why are there two pickups shown - one blue, one yellow |
Answer: | I needed "narrow format" for my classical guitar, and I'm pretty sure the one I got was yellow. Judging by the picture, it looks like maybe the blue one is wider, as in "wide format". Maybe they put a blue coating on it to make it fit more snugly in a wider slot, but I'm not sure. That's a long way of saying "I don't know". |
Question: | Fishman AG-094 - passive narrow show there are two Blue & Red and the Jack? or only one |
Answer: | I ordered this and got the red pickup and the jack. 094 narrow is the red one. I think the blue ones shown are different sizes that may be ordered. |
Question: | what are the deminitions in mm |
Answer: | Don't know, but it fit my 6 string guitar |

User questions & answers
Question: | I use dadario silk & steel strings. will this work with them since they aren't 100% steel |
Answer: | I only use steel guitar strings so I don't know the answer to your question. Neo-buster humbusker is working ok. Howard (BO) |
Question: | Does installation require removing the strings? How does it stay in the sound hole |
Answer: | I was able to install mine without removing the strings, but I had to use a dremel tool and grind off rubber all the way around the outer edge, quite a bit in order to get it to fit into the sound hole. I would contact the seller after measuring the diameter of your guitar’s soundhole, to ensure that it will fit. |
Question: | Does this work with nylon strings |
Answer: | No, you need a piezo style pickup. This particular pickup also would not fit the mounting hole in any of my acoustic guitars. |
Question: | Would this be good to record with using a USB audiobox |
Answer: | Hey, yes the sound is amazing. Also, there is no noise. Real good reproduction of the entire sound spectrum of the guitar. You could go for this without a second thought. Also, the resonance is amazing. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is it a passieve or not |
Answer: | Yes, it is passive. Fishman makes this neo-d passive with humbucker to help with slight humming noise that can potentially come from the pickup depending on your system and usage. Both work well, but if you are worried about stage noise coming from the pickup, etc, I would consider paying more for the humbucker version. However, it depends on your usage and needs. Of course, there are other Fishman pickups as well, but we would need to know more about your goals in order to help you pick up the right pickup. Please let us know if you need further assistance. Thanks! |
Question: | How long is the cord |
Answer: | the cord is 9.5 feet long. |
Question: | Will it work with nylon strings |
Answer: | These types of pickups will not work on nylon strings. It is a magnetic pickup so it can only sense the vibrations from metal objects. For nylon strings, use a piezo or transducer pickup instead. See this wikipedia excerpt for info: "A magnetic pickup consists of a permanent magnet with a core of material such as alnico or ceramic, wrapped with a coil of several thousand turns of fine enameled copper wire. The pickup is most often mounted on the body of the instrument, but can be attached to the bridge, neck or pickguard, as on many electro-acoustic archtop jazz guitars and string basses. The permanent magnet creates a magnetic field; the motion of the vibrating steel strings disturbs the field, and the changing magnetic flux induces a voltage in the coil. This signal is then carried to amplification or recording equipment via a cable. There may also be an internal preamplifier stage between the pickup and cable." |
Question: | Can anyone comment on the process involved with running the cable through the guitar to make permamnent? Thx |
Answer: | This is not the kind to drill a hole in your guitar and make it permanent. There other ones make to do that. My guitar is ventage made before they had built in pickups for this kind of guitar. It was strongly suggested not to drill a hole in it so I got this pick up. It works great for me and getting another one for my ventage 12 string. Whether you drill a hole in it depends of the quality of your guitar and age. If you do have it done I would suggest getting a profesional guitar tech do it. It is more involved than just drilling a hole in it. If you can afford it I would suggest getting one with the pick up built in from the factory. I got another guitar for places I don't want to take my good guitars to for $170 from a pawn shop and it sounds ok. So in short this one is not made to do that. there are several ones that are made to do that, and a professional guitar tech will be able to tell you which one will fit & work best in your guitar. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this pickup work with a 12 string acoustic |
Answer: | The covers are removable but every cover's size is different. |
Question: | Does it have a volume knob/slider |
Answer: | Neck pickup with white wire, string span 48mm. Middle pickup with red wire, string span 50mm. Bridge pickup with yellow wire, string span 52mm. |
Question: | does this need a seperate preamp? can i use this direct to a fender blues jr amp |
Answer: | These were developed probably 30 years ago and at the time we had two Vintage Reissue Strats, the '57 and the '62. These pickups were used in both so that was the name given to them and we have never changed it. |
Question: | Plugging into a PA, is the volume satisfactory without a preamp |
Answer: | It was either the parchment or aged white - I'm not sure. I did swap the existing out for white covers, that better match the pickguard. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hecho en USA |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | How do I know if I need the wide or narrow version of this pickup |
Answer: | It will depend if the groove in your bridge is slotted for a wide saddle or a narrow one. I think most of them are narrow. I got a narrow one and I put it on my Blueridge guitar & it fit good. I do not know what the measurements are for the grooves, but I know on my Martin D-35 the groove was narrow, & I have an Epiphone that has a narrow groove. If the groove has been widened for a compensated saddle you should be able to compare it to another guitar. Hope this helps. blugrsindn |
Question: | Please whats the difference between this model and the fishman sonitone? what is sound best and most natural for an acoustic guitar orchestra size |
Answer: | Don't know about the sonitone, but if you plug an internal mic to the infinity it will be the most natural preamp for acoustic. |
Question: | Does this have the problems of a traditional under-saddle pickup with "quacking" on hard strumming |
Answer: | Not that I have noticed. Have been using this model and its predecessors since 1998 and the only little thing is a tiny transient coming from the pick touching the string, especially 1st and 2nd, when playing really soft. Not sure what you mean by quacking but can't recall anything I would refer to as that. In every detail a great pickup, just plug in to a really good PA and blow everyone away./Lennart Andersson |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with stereo guitar pedals like tc mimiq and hof 2? if so, how do you connect them? would use with church pa system for stereo sound |
Answer: | Yes but use the Germany made veet. No burn or redness. |
Question: | How would an electric bass sound thru it |
Answer: | Yes one scraper per tube. Works great. Would attach video, but do not think Amazon would leave it up. |
Question: | Does this include all the image or I have to buy it |
Answer: | Yes, they are. The colors are fun and vibrant without being too bright. |
Question: | Can the Aura Spectrum be setup inline with the Fishman ToneDEQ |
Answer: | I have only ever bought the white ones, so I cannot answer to the bleeding. There was alot of lint for the first two or three washes, so wash them separate at first. After that there was no excessive lint. Of the first batch that I bought, I have only had one that the hem/binding on one side has started to fray. That occured after probably 50 or more washings in hot water. I suppose that there could be inconsistencies in the manufacturing, but so far the ones I have bought have held up well for the price paid. |

Aura Imaging
Fishman Aura preamps and onboard Imaging systems go beyond modeling to create a spacious sound that is both vivid and natural.
The sound of your acoustic instrument in a room is a combination of time, space and distance, that’s why no matter how great your undersaddle pickup or soundhole microphone sounds — (and they can sound fantastic), there is still something missing — the instrument’s aura. To re-create the sound that naturally surrounds your instrument in a room through an amplifier or PA, we created Aura Imaging technology.
