13 best harmonica amp

A harmonica amp, also known as a harmonica amplifier, is a specialized amplifier designed for use with harmonicas. These amplifiers are tailored to the unique tonal characteristics and playing techniques associated with harmonicas. Here's what you need to know about harmonica amps:

  1. Clean and Transparent Sound: Harmonica amps are typically designed to produce a clean and transparent sound. This is essential because harmonicas produce rich and complex harmonics that can be easily distorted if amplified through a standard guitar amplifier.

  2. Low Wattage: Harmonica amps often have lower wattage compared to electric guitar amplifiers. This is because harmonicas don't require the same level of power as electric guitars. Lower wattage amps allow for better control over the amplifier's volume, making it suitable for the harmonica's dynamic range.

  3. Compact and Portable: Many harmonica amplifiers are compact and lightweight, making them easy to transport to gigs and performances. Portability is a key factor for harmonica players who need to move their equipment frequently.

  4. Tone Controls: Harmonica amps typically have simple tone control options, such as bass and treble knobs, to adjust the tonal characteristics. These controls allow players to fine-tune their sound to suit different playing styles and preferences.

  5. High-Impedance Input: Harmonicas have a high-impedance output, which is different from the low-impedance output of electric guitars. Harmonica amps are equipped with a high-impedance input to accommodate this difference and ensure optimal signal transfer.

  6. Built-in Effects: Some harmonica amps come with built-in effects like reverb or tremolo, which can add depth and character to the harmonica's sound. These effects can enhance the versatility of the amplifier.

  7. Feedback Resistance: Harmonica amps are designed to be less prone to feedback compared to electric guitar amps. This is crucial because harmonica players often use microphones to amplify their instruments, and feedback can be a significant issue in live settings.

  8. Microphone Compatibility: Many harmonica amps have a dedicated microphone input, allowing players to connect a harmonica microphone directly to the amplifier for optimal sound reproduction.

  9. Durability: Harmonica amps are built to withstand the rigors of live performances. They are often constructed with robust materials to ensure longevity.

  10. Specialized Brands: There are several brands that specialize in producing harmonica amps, and they often have a reputation for creating high-quality, purpose-built amplifiers for harmonica players.

When selecting a harmonica amp, it's essential to consider your specific playing style, performance needs, and budget. Different models may offer varying features and tonal characteristics, so trying out different options or seeking advice from experienced harmonica players can help you find the right amplifier for your requirements.

User questions & answers

Question: What kind of power supply does this use? Can I plug into the wall or does it take batteries? I'm not very familiar with amplifiers, thanks
Answer: Documentation does not say, not on the box either. Coverage area indicates it is 2.4. Works very well I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck.
Question: Would this be good for Karaoke (I have a Karaoke Mixer) or for connecting to a Projector to boost the sound
Answer: It depends on the dealer's policy.
Question: Does it come with a wire
Answer: Just received the DWS-3 system today on recommendations from numerous reviews and forums. Plugged it in using my Warwick Thumb 5-string and GK mb500. No discernible difference from using a standard cable. Handled the low B string just fine. I’m confident it will do fine at gig this weekend with GK+SWR Goliath III cab.
Question: Can this amp used for violin? Does it has speakers
Answer: As it is I found that mine did also , after research for a few minutes I found that it was my input jack on the guitar . Don’t know if this helps but I cleaned mine with a burst of compressed air and it helped but ultimately I changed the jack out for a new one and I now have crisp and clear sound .

User questions & answers

Question: Can the pig nose be fixed if it breaks
Answer: It does not normally connect to a stand, it is a hand held harmonica microphone. Although there a mic holder called Ammo Clip 520 that will attach to a standard mic stand top. https://www.amazon.com/Ammo-Clip-520-CherryBomb-Microphones/dp/B086MLYSVJ/ref=pd_crcd_1?pd_rd_w=bMYAe&pf_rd_p=8019ba47-0a12-4976-b76b-5c932d60db6f&pf_rd_r=VB2Y4H82TMQ661JXB12B&pd_rd_r=d94e7549-9f90-4d70-8cb8-a3d5a6ba427f&pd_rd_wg=qXaa8&pd_rd_i=B086MLYSVJ&psc=1
Question: does it have an aux in to play devices through it
Answer: The cord at the microphone end is hard wired into the mic itself. It does not unplug from there.
Question: Has anyone tried to adapt this to work with a 9v battery, or is that too little mAh
Answer: Hello sir. There really isn’t a mount for this microphone. It’s for a harmonica player to hold and cup the harmonica around it. You hold it while playing. A shure green bullet sounds good but they don’t last long enough. I’ve had 3 and each has required repairs. I got a peavey red devil this time
Question: Do you think this amp is loud enough for an ensemble
Answer: Sam Ash Direct only ships to the U.S. Thanks Ken.

Question: Does this have a headphone port
Answer: You can... 6 aa batteries = 6x1.5v=9v... mah doesn't factor... that just gives you the capacity of the battery (how long it will run)... these originally ran off the larger 9 v batteries (not the fire alarm type) which I'd strongly recommend over the smaller ones... their much easier to hook up (screw knobs vs the snap-in holder)
Question: how many watts
Answer: Without any other amplification...No!

Question: is this battery operated or can it be plugged to an electricity
Answer: One channel so you have to adjust to get either clean or dirty.
Question: Is this a good choice for electroacoustic instruments, keyboards, etc.? I've been told guitar-specific amps can "color" the sound too much
Answer: Yes it has distortion with many preset amp simulations. It also has various effects.
Question: can i use peddles or effects with this amp
Answer: You tap it to alter the delay time or tremolo speed. Tap it twice and the time between taps becomes the setting for those functions.
Question: does it come with the cable needed to plug it into the wall
Answer: The Champion 20 has one 8" speaker. The Champion 40 has one 12" speaker. The Champion 100 has two 12" speakers.
Question: Does this have clean or dirty
Answer: The power cord is the tonic perfect fifth and the octave. If you are going for a metal sound feel free to leave out the octave.

User questions & answers

Question: I have the pignose hog amp but i lost the power cord recharge cord, where can i get one, need it bad
Answer: C is the most popular key with which to start on the harmonica, as most beginner lessons online will assume you're using a harp in this key. It's also the most ubiquitous key for popular music song to be written in. Jonathan The Harmonica Company
Question: Can this amp hold both acoustic guitar and acoustic bass at the same time
Answer: Yes - it comes with the case in the image. Jonathan Prestidge The Harmonica Company
Question: The description says that this has "2 instrument inputs" but I only see one. Could someone verify? Thx
Answer: This is a very good harmonica, maybe too good for a first harmonica. The Rocket and Rocket Amp are basically Hohner Special 20's, only improved slightly and mostly for a more experienced player. All of those 3 Hohner are easy to play, easy to bend (if you plan on playing the blues). In the beginning of your harmonica journey, you will likely be harder on your harp than you will as you improve. So I would suggest saving the $20 or so and buy a Special 20. If you like playing Hohner, you can always upgrade when you replace your original harp and as you add other keys to your collection.
Question: How do you know when the amp is fully charged
Answer: No, there's a line out on the back
