14 best guitar cab speakers
Guitar cabinet speakers, often referred to simply as "cab speakers," are a crucial component of an electric guitar amplification setup. These speakers are closely related to cabinets, electric guitar amplifiers preamps, guitar bass amplifiers preamps, amplifiers effects, and musical instruments. Here's what you need to know about guitar cab speakers:
1. Purpose: Guitar cabinet speakers are responsible for converting the electrical signals produced by an amplifier into audible sound. They play a vital role in shaping the overall tone and sound characteristics of an electric guitar.
2. Types: There are various types and sizes of guitar cabinet speakers available, and they come in different configurations, such as single speakers or multi-speaker setups. Common sizes include 10-inch, 12-inch, and 15-inch speakers.
3. Speaker Configurations: Guitar cabinet speakers can be housed in different cabinet configurations, such as open-back, closed-back, or semi-open-back designs. Each configuration produces a unique sound and response.
4. Speaker Characteristics: Guitar cab speakers have different tonal characteristics, including their wattage, sensitivity, and frequency response. Musicians often choose speakers that complement their playing style and desired sound.
5. Speaker Wattage: The wattage rating of a guitar cab speaker indicates how much power it can handle. It's important to match the speaker's wattage with the amplifier's output to prevent damage.
6. Speaker Sensitivity: Sensitivity measures how efficiently a speaker converts electrical power into sound.Speakers with higher sensitivity require less power to produce the same volume as speakers with lower sensitivity.
7. Speaker Brand and Model: Many well-known speaker manufacturers, such as Celestion and Eminence, offer a variety of speaker models with distinct tonal characteristics. Musicians often choose speakers based on personal preferences and the sound they want to achieve.
8. Tone Shaping: Guitar cab speakers significantly impact the tone of an electric guitar. Musicians can experiment with different speakers and cabinet configurations to achieve the desired sound, whether it's warm, bright, tight, or vintage.
9. Replacement and Upgrades: Guitarists often replace or upgrade the speakers in their cabinets to fine-tune their tone or achieve a specific sound. It's essential to consider the speaker's compatibility with the cabinet and amplifier.
10. Maintenance: Proper care and maintenance of guitar cabinet speakers are essential to ensure their longevity and performance. Avoid exposing them to moisture or extreme temperatures and handle them carefully to prevent damage.

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a 200w 4ohm bass head. Will this cabinet, by itself be able to cut through a bands mix? (guitarist and drummer |
Answer: | Yes, it should. I’ve used this cabinet as an add on to a rig for larger gigs and venues, and for smaller gigs it’s enough to cut through. It’s a classic sound similar to an Ampeg 210 cabinet without a high frequency horn, but there is still articulation. |
Question: | If I got two of these 2x10 cabs, what amp heads could drive that |
Answer: | I would say anything from 100 watts to 600 watts. I have run mine with a Gallien Kruger 700RB and also a Hartke 350. They can handle a high powered head, but I would recommend you start out at very low volume and not to blow them out. With my GK, I am now running a Seimic 4x10, and in a club setting, rarely have I had it over a 2 on the master volume. Tone is killer. Have also used my 2x10 with a 15" in another cab and sounded great that way too. One advantage to having a pair of 2x10's is the weight and ease of moving it. My 4x10 is heavy in comparison, but they sound pretty much the same. What amp head are you considering? |
Question: | is this really 4 ohms? I did some research on another site and it said it was 8 ohms...i am confused i dont want to buy the wrong thing |
Answer: | ou can order it either 4 0r 8 ohms if I remember correctly. Mine is 4 ohms and very impressive especially for the $$. |
Question: | I have a bass guitar amp head for this already, but whats a good little pre-amp/reciever to push this little guy with good sound/bass for DJing |
Answer: | Hi Kam,Thanks for your continued interest in Seismic Audio! Any combination of our mixer/power amps will work for this. They can be found here:http://www.seismicaudiospeakers.com/Amplifiers-s/221.htmConsidering this is a bass guitar cabinet, you won't get the same result as if you ran your audio through a full range speaker with some subs. That would be the ideal setup for a DJ type application. Let me know if your have any questions. Thanks,Rusty |

Answer: | I only bought the extension cabinet. But no they are 110 in the states |
Question: | Does Orange make a extra speaker cabinet for the 35 watt amp |
Answer: | This speaker does not need electric power. You should run it straight from an AMP. Orange amps can work both 120-240 w |
Question: | Is there a cover for this amp |
Answer: | goto Orange Amps very nice website to get the stock dimensionshttp://www.orangeamps.com/ |
Question: | Can you hook up the orange micro mini to it |
Answer: | You would need some sort of power amp. This is a non-powered speaker, so you would have to give it a head unit to power it and then plug the effects processor into the head. Your multi effects processor will not have the correct load for this speaker cab and you may fry the processor. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with the front grill assembly? Prefer cloth grill |
Answer: | Yes, the come in both 8 and 16 ohm |
Question: | What is the weight of this cabinet? 2) is there a grille of some sort provided or available |
Answer: | If you are talking about the depth of the speaker (front edge to magnet back) it is about 4" You can go to the Celestion page, celestion.com/product/33/ten_30/, and get all of the speaker parameters. If you want to know the thickness of the cone - not a clue. It appears to be the usual feel of most guitar speakers. By the way, although some might notice a slight difference between this speaker and a classic ALNICO Celestion, I put a pair in a cabinet for my vintage VOX heads (Berkely 3 & AC15) and it looses nothing to the other speakers Tried an original VOX cab with Celestion Blues and only at the extremes did the vintage cabinet sound better. |
Question: | how much does this cabinet weigh |
Answer: | I disagree , depends on what you wanna hear , my basic rule is to get a speaker twice tour amps rating for a balanced tone with a little headroom .... the Bugera can push this speaker , lower wattage speakers break up sooner at lower levels , i hooked a 300 watt marshall cab once up to a 15 watt amp and the headromm was sweet .... the most important thing is the ohm rating with a tube amp , Bugeras min is 8 ohms ... explore , try and do , it'll be fine |
Question: | how much does this cab weigh |
Answer: | as a drop-in, yes, good fit - loud, compressed middle tone sound. will performe nicely for not too much money Don't know if you can retrofit a 12" into your cabinet instead - recommend it for mellowing out the highs and middle tones - measure carefully before you do any mods though. You can also consider getting a spark for the money you spent on that Marshal. If you are not doing tube-tone, a purist sort of thing, any class d amp will give you a similar sound. On second thought - just replace your speaker with that Celestion 10 30 and keep practicing and rock on - skill in the hands is better than gear in the bedroom... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anyone know the depth of this speaker |
Answer: | are you asking about the v3 head being used with this one speaker 15" cab? My message says a 2X10 cab which is a cabinet. Confusing. If you do go with this cabinet be sure to open up the back and make sure that it is sealed well. Take some wood glue to the seams. The one I had was not sealed well and I used a bunch of glue. After that it is a nice light weight cabinet. |
Question: | I have a Line 6 iv and need a 10" Celestion 8 ohm 120 watt amp. Which speaker do I need |
Answer: | This is cabinet is rated for 600 Watts Peak |
Question: | where are these speakers made |
Answer: | Hello. This is a full range woofer, so you get a lot of the mids. If you don't add a crossover it would not be that great a sub and with a crossover it would be an ok subwoofer. However our Baby Tremor is a much better sub for just a little bit more money.http://www.amazon.com/Seismic-Audio-Baby-Tremor-Subwoofer-Cabinet/dp/B00CICUNO6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418053301&sr=8-2&keywords=baby+tremor |
Question: | this item fits on a laney cub 12r |
Answer: | Thank you for asking. In addition to the this speaker cabinet now containing an amp, it also has not tweeter. It is unlikely you will find a 15 inch speakers that would be satisfactory without a horn to use with a keyboard amp. However this is a full range 15 so it will carry a significant portion of the low range and mid range on it's own. So with the right amp this may be enough, and with the right tweeter added it would probably work pretty well for most keyboard applications. |

Celestion Greenback Range
As the blues gave birth to hard rock, Celestion Greenbacks proved to be the right tone at the right time. Offering a higher power rating than Alnico speakers, the G12M and G12H with its ceramic magnet and responsive feel was a perfect complement to players who were driving their amps harder and harder. The speakers that gave us Clapton’s ‘Bluesbreaker’ tone on All Your Love and the sonic bombast of Hendrix’s Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock, remain the benchmark by which all others are measured.

User questions & answers
Question: | I bought the mv50 clean amp head to go with this speaker...I would like reverb...any suggestions for add on |
Answer: | There are a wide variety of outboard units. However instead of investing the money in a dedicated reverb unit you might want to get a multi effect processor which has reverb as one of its effects. The Zoom GXion is an excellent multi effect and the reverb section is quite good and totally customizable. It also has a programmable expression pedal. I've been playing for 50 years and it is my main fx processor. I'm not sure of the current price but it is less than $100 |
Question: | can i use this with a non vox mini amp head |
Answer: | Yes with any amp head |
Question: | I bought the cabinetand tried playing, do i need the head as well |
Answer: | Yes. The amp head powers the speaker cabinet. These cabinets are specially constructed to be paired with the VOX MV50 line of amp heads. However, a different amp head may work. Be sure to check the manual for the other amp head if they are not VOX MV50 and the manual for the Vox speaker cabinet to be sure it’s safe to use a different head. |
Question: | What if i set the amp head to 4ohms??? It actually sounds best there |
Answer: | at 4 ohms 1 of those cabs isn’t enough you are putting strain on the head and can burn it or the cab up you shoykd run it on 8 by itself 4 if you have 2 cabs |

Question: | How does this compare with the tech 21 sansamp gt2 or tri-ac |
Answer: | I have run several tube amps through the cabinet in the following power settings: 1 Watt, 5 Watt, 15 Watt, and 20 Watt. Zero issues, it is rated at 30 Watts. I would not push the cabinet more than 30 watts. |

User questions & answers
Question: | One cab is 4ohm one is 8ohm can I make it work with this |
Answer: | It took me quite a bit of digging to find it, but if you go to the main website, there should be a downloads tab. Go to that tab and you'll see a link for Radar software downloads. Click that and press the button that applies to your OS to get it. When you plug in your Radar to your computer, plug in the 9 volt as well and hold the red button until it goes to Update mode. Let it update, and you'll be good to go! |
