10 best 4 wheel drive wheelchairs

Four-wheel-drive wheelchairs, also known as all-terrain wheelchairs, are specialized mobility devices designed to provide users with enhanced mobility over rough, uneven, or challenging terrains. These wheelchairs are particularly beneficial for individuals who wish to maintain an active lifestyle and access outdoor environments that traditional wheelchairs may struggle to navigate. Here are some key points about 4WD wheelchairs:

  1. Enhanced Mobility: 4WD wheelchairs are equipped with four large, rugged wheels that are designed to handle a variety of terrains, including gravel paths, dirt trails, sand, grass, and even snow. This design allows users to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and exploring nature.

  2. Motorized or Manual: These wheelchairs can be either motorized or manually propelled, depending on the user's preferences and needs. Motorized versions typically feature electric motors that provide additional power for traversing challenging terrain.

  3. Sturdy Construction: All-terrain wheelchairs are built with durable materials to withstand the rigors of outdoor use. They often feature reinforced frames, heavy-duty tires, and robust suspension systems to provide stability and comfort.

  4. Adaptive Features: Many 4WD wheelchairs come with adaptive features such as adjustable seating, backrests, and armrests to ensure user comfort. Some models also have swiveling seats that make it easier to access the wheelchair.

  5. Battery and Range: Motorized 4WD wheelchairs are powered by rechargeable batteries. The range of these batteries can vary depending on the model and terrain conditions.Users should consider the battery's capacity and the distance they plan to travel when selecting a wheelchair.

  6. Safety Features: Safety is a top priority, and these wheelchairs often come with features like seatbelts, anti-tip mechanisms, and brakes to ensure the user's safety on uneven terrain.

  7. Customization: Many manufacturers offer customization options, allowing users to tailor their all-terrain wheelchair to their specific needs and preferences.

  8. Cost: All-terrain wheelchairs can be more expensive than traditional wheelchairs due to their specialized features and construction. However, they provide increased independence and the ability to explore outdoor environments that might otherwise be inaccessible.

  9. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to keep a 4WD wheelchair in good working condition, especially after extended outdoor use. Users should follow the manufacturer's guidelines for maintenance and care.

  10. Accessibility: While all-terrain wheelchairs are designed to handle challenging terrains, it's essential to consider accessibility to certain locations, such as parks and trails. Not all outdoor areas may be wheelchair-friendly.

These wheelchairs have opened up new possibilities for individuals with mobility challenges, allowing them to enjoy outdoor activities and maintain an active lifestyle. However, users should assess their specific needs, mobility goals, and the terrain they intend to navigate before choosing an all-terrain wheelchair to ensure it meets their requirements.

Product description

Questions? Click on the blue "Value Mobility" under the red price for our toll free customer service number. this listing is for a Pair of hoveround teknique fwd 4.10x3.50 - 4 Solid Wheelchair drive Tires. SAWTOOTH TIRE, TREAD PATTERN C189, BEAD TO BEAD WIDTH 2.56 Your wheelchair or scooter should have a two piece wheel (also called a split rim, imagine halving a yo yo). Since a foam filled tire is basically a pneumatic tire filled with foam during the manufacturing process, tire sizing is the same. However the bead width of the split rim can vary. The bead width is the distance between the inside of the rims lip, where the edge of the tire seats. This is because there was never standard (split rim) bead width sizing adopted in the wheelchair/scooter industry. As a result you can have several tires of the same size with different bead widths and only one of them will properly fit your split rim. If the bead width of the tire you purchase is too narrow for your split rim, there will not be enough compression between the two halves of your split rim against the tire causing the tire to rotate separately. If the bead width is too wide, you will never get the two halves of the split rim and the tire screwed back together. Taking the time to measure bead width will ensure you purchase the right foam filled tire and save you from an installation headache and the hassle of sending them back. Returned tires will be subject to a 20% restocking fee. We as well, sell a compression tool that makes the job much easier, found here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OXNF3JI You can see how it works here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXLt-y32aFA

User questions & answers

Question: can it be use as a wheelchair
Answer: Is it comfortable can it go outside on gravel grass etc.. do you need to remove foot rest or do they flip to the side when you don’t need them?.
Question: I'm only 4'10" of small female stature, will I be able to maneuver this rollator, requirement says 5'4" recommended, can't find it any smaller
Answer: The Lumex Rollator is easy to maneuver. There is a strap on the seat. When pulled the unit folds up but remains maneuverable. The handlebars are simple to adjust to various heights. The Lumex is heavier than most brands because it is built of stronger steel. We own three. One upstairs, one down and the Lumex in the car. With larger wheels it is my favorite for use on rough ground. The brakes are especially strong. I hope this helps.
Question: Can anyone compare this lumex hybrid to the drive duet? any problems with this hybrid tipping forward? Is Lumex more (or less) stable than Drive
Answer: The only tipping forward we have experienced is when it is being used as a transfer chair and we hit a ridge in the floor/pavement. Have not used the drive duet.
Question: Some say wheels are 4" and others say 8". which
Answer: 8"

Question: advantages of 3 wheel or 4 wheel
Answer: The singular advantage of the three wheeled version is that it has a slightly shorter turning radius. However, it's not short enough to navigate this scooter in a residence. The advantage of the 4 wheel is that it delivers a better ride and is generally more stable. Because of market pricing, the 4 wheel scooter is usually a better buy. Have a look at the Scout 4 with our 5 year extended warranty. The warranty even includes the battery pack. Search B0170UXMVQ on Amazon to learn more. VidaCura is a BBB A+ rated, full service company. We take and return phone calls 7 days a week at (800) 704-8432. We're a Drive Medical authorized dealer. We can deliver a Scout 3 or 4 anywhere in the U.S. within 4 business days.
Question: How well does this do in the snow? I live in Michigan where it snows alot and will need this for getting to the store
Answer: In the instruction book it says not to get it wet and if you do to dry it as soon as possible, so I do not think it would be ok for that reason. I live in Toledo and used it to get from my car to a store that had been plowed and it did not do very well. It has a really low ground clearance, and the wheels are rather small, about 7-8 inches. Every time I hit a slushy part it did not want to go. I only tried it once and now only use it if it is relatively dry. I do love the machine although I wish I had gotten the 3 wheeler. Easier to turn. This machine has allowed me to go places that I haven't been to in years. Went to the zoo with the grand kids for the first time in forever.
Question: is the battery charger and battery included
Answer: yes both are included. I bought my scooter last December. I haven't had any problems until now. Red blinking light on and scooter won't advance. So now I have to call up technical support tomorrow to find out what the problem is. Battery is fully charged so not sure what the problem is!

User questions & answers

Question: degree for inclines
Answer: The widest part of the M34 scooter is 20". It easily fits through most doorways.
Question: Will this scooter operate on grass and gravel
Answer: Very few scooters have a suspension that will handle rough bumpy surfaces. However, you definitely want to have a four-wheel scooter like this to reduce the chances that your front wheel on a three-wheeled scooter would hit a rut and thrown you off. Three-wheelers are fine, however, on level solid surfaces. Bill Keene 954-421-3169 Boca Home Medical Solutions NOTE: We hope you will find our answer helpful. If you want to buy from us, great. We’d like that. You can, of course, call us with any additional questions.
Question: where can I get a charger that runs off my cars cigerette lighter
Answer: The scooter will go on level grass and tightly packed, smooth gravel. Below we have summarized what Ewheels Recommends: General Operation – Driving Outdoors Your scooter is designed to be driven on clean, even, dry surfaces. eWheels does not recommend you store your scooter outdoors. Your scooter is susceptible to damage to electronic, mechanical, or other components if exposed to water. If you are caught outside during inclement weather, seek shelter or ask someone for assistance. Always ensure that the power is switched off when getting on or off the scooter. Never attempt to mount or dismount the scooter if it is operational or moving. Do not switch the power off when the scooter is still moving forward or in reverse. Always check that the variable speed switch is set to the desired speed setting. Always check that the desired direction of forward or reverse travel is selected when ready to drive. General Operation – Alternate Surfaces Do not drive your scooter onto stairs or escalators; serious injury will result. Do not attempt to drive your scooter onto stairs or escalators. Question: can I reverse the armrest so the taller part is in the front
Answer: My arm rests are note taller on one end or the other. They are the same size no matter the way installed, the only change would be in the width between the arm rests. If installed as it comes from the factory the wide section of the arm rest would be on the outside if reversed it would be on the inside making the seating area smaller.
