Answer:	I bought the brown leather one it smelled like other leather items I have bought from other vendors. You can smell the treatment oil but its not very strong. Have you tried setting it outside in a protected area to see if it will gas off the treatment chemicals? I would think 3 to 4 hours would get rid of most of it. If it doesn't then you may have to pursue other options with the vendor. I love my brown one.

Answer:	I don't know how many come in a standard amazon pack, but I know it isn't that for one! I got a sample and it was one of them. I'm now on a national tour and IN FACT I am using that notebook right now on this trip. But it isn't for just one.

Answer:	The tape binding is black. Like most notebooks, the pages have blue horizontal lines for writing and a singular red vertical line approximately 1 inch from the left side of the page. Does this answer your question?

Answer:	Depends on what you mean by 'hardcovered'. The cover is made of sturdy cardboard. You can fold it back if you want to. It's stronger than the usual notebook cover & I really like these notebooks & use them for everything.
