User questions & answers
Question: | Btw amazon photo shows 2 pack logo! even though you only get one set |
Answer: | NO! It is, and the specs say, it is for 120vac. House wiring is 120vac. If you are wondering about 220vac, then you are probably thinking (giving you the latitude here, that you know about 220vac house service (which can be either 2 or 3 phase). Only one of those phases is used within the normal house receptacles. Even if you just look at the regular 3 prong plug between the two larger devices, you will see that is is the expected 120vac plug. A 220vac plug looks quite a lot different. Anyone trying to diagnose the (2 or 3) multi-phase service would typically just diagnose one phase at a time. So this *could* be used to troubleshoot 220vac - AS LONG AS you are just diagnosing *one phase at a time*. If you don't have clue as to what I have just spoken about then leave it alone! You are, in the least, going to waste your money, or burn out something, and at worst, possibly burn your house down. Get an electrician to help you out. |
Question: | Does anyone else have issues with the sensitivity of this unit? I can't pinpoint a breaker, just a range of at least 5-6 push it to max |
Answer: | Yes! Do this at your own risk, obviously. For some of the circuits in my house, the signal from the transmitter was too weak for the detector to pick it up through the breaker switch itself, but scanning the wires always worked. |
Question: | Will this work on220 volt |
Answer: | If you just need to test for continuity then you can put an rj45 jack on each end and tone one end and test the other you can see if you have continuity |
Question: | If you take the breaker plate off can you get a better indication on a specific wire going into a breaker |
Answer: | you will still have to connect the generator to the cable somewhere. since they are low voltage it should work. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this trace a wire routing through the wall |
Answer: | It's configured for 120 though you'd have to read the specs to see a out 240. |
Question: | I have outlets wired in series: some NM. some metal-shielded. Can I detect signal in accessible wires "halfway" to the breaker to confirm route |
Answer: | That would be a bit more difficult. You would have to replace the bulb with one of those socket adapters that have the socket and outlets to plug in cords. I think that would work to find the right breaker since you could plug in that part of the detector. |
Question: | Will this product detect a bootleg ground |
Answer: | No, the circuit must have power to generate a signal that is traceable to the breaker panel. |
Question: | Can you use this to trace the outlet to its circuit breaker if the circuit breaker is damaged or off |
Answer: | There is nothing on the product to indicate that it is. The item is UL approved, sturdy, and works very well. You can find Sperry on Facebook and ask your question there. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work on 120 alone or will it also work with |
Answer: | The button is a momentary contact switch. If the door chime has a lengthy melody, I suppose it would have a timed latching relay that would maintain the current flow while the chime played. The doorbell button would simply cause the relay to latch. A diode is a component that is used to direct the flow of electricity and in some configurations is used to convert AC current to DC. The momentary contact switch is what it is... nothing more. |
Question: | Can the alligator clips be used on insulated wires or do they have to be completely exposed |
Answer: | The PB7LWH will work on most NuTone hard wired chimes. Some older chimes that have 8-note melodies, would require a different push button. You are welcomed to call our Technical Support Department at 888-336-6151. |
Question: | Does it work with the deal industries inc. 61-534 digital circuit breaker finder with digital receiver and gfci circuit tester |
Answer: | I believe there is space for wiring. |
Question: | The Klein circuit breaker finder shows a three prong plug, this kit has socket adapter that has two hole socket |
Answer: | The description says "Black Finish with White Center Bar". That it pretty much what I received. The center is a translucent white. I installed it as a second garage door opener button inside my garage so looks didn't count. Worked great for $4.47 |

User questions & answers
Question: | What are internal dimensions |
Answer: | Yes, the GFCI outlet tester & Circuit Breaker Finder unit measures the current from one side of the power source to the other side, so power is necessary. Keep in mind in that older homes or commercial units may have unused circuits in the panel that some other circuit might be relying on that for ground, and they can be re-tasked for another circuit in the future rather than fishing new cable. It is recommended to consult a professional electrician for a proper consultation if you have any further questions for your project. |

I do not believe that amazon will answer your question in this manor. Probably the only way to find out from Amazon is to just try ordering it and see what your response will be. |
Question: | I have 220vac outlets, if the remote plug-in unit only works with 110vac can I go one side to ground and simulate a 110 circuit to find each breaker |
Answer: | I am not sure but I would suspect code for high voltage lines should be properly marked for identification. |
Question: | Does the power have to be on for the tester to work |
Answer: | I don't know but im sure that the circuit wiring configuration along with the load center configuration will effect it's operating range. There are several variables that can effect the tester's operation. |
Question: | Does it work for higher voltage like 220 v |
Answer: | Does not have a sensitivity wheel, I’ve had no issues with it usually within one breaker its spot on. Just have to hit reset if u skip over the correct one to clear memory before re scanning |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this tester test the breaker itself, or will I need a continuity tester to test the breaker |
Answer: | Your question is unclear, but I think you want to use it backwards. The unit has a transmitter, which you connect at an outlet (via duplex plug, clipleads, or standard light-bulb-socket adapter). Then at the service panel, you run the receiver down the circuit breakers, and it tells you (most of the time) which CB feeds that outlet. It does not allow you to select a CB and then use the device somehow to find all outlets that CB feeds. (I would love that feature as well.) |
Question: | Extravie la pieza que se enchufa, hay manera de reemplazarlo |
Answer: | Yes there is a red light that comes on when the plug is plugged into a live outlet. |
Question: | Does the electrical circuit have to be powered up. I am trying to trace unused circuits |
Answer: | No the transmitter needs the power from the outlet to send the signal down the line. The transmitter is the device you plug into the outlet. |
Question: | Thank you for answering; I also need to know what the red button on the transmitter is for |
Answer: | The small transmitter plugs into a target outlet and injects current pulses into the line, which can be detected by the receiver probe when held close to the path that the power goes through, which includes the breaker. The receiver antenna is most sensitive when oriented with the face perpendicular to the path, so that's why it should be held with the face sideways, with the up arrows pointing up. Whenever the bottom is pressed, it resets the sensitivity to the highest level, and each time it detects a strong signal, it reduces the sensitivity so it will ignore any lower level signals it encounters from that point on. That's the reason for the multiple passes, to keep looking for the strongest level signal and progressively reducing its sensitivity until it will only sound off on the strongest one, which is generally the target. You can go back and forth, just try to hold the unit at the same point going down the line of breakers to get an equal reading on all the breakers. Basically you just want to reduce the unit's sensitivity by having it pass by any strong signals. If you accidentally push the button while handling it, you just need to run through them again. If you find the target, you could flip that breaker and run through another pass, too confirm it no longer sounds off, which it shouldn't, if it's no longer getting power. Sometimes you may get two breakers that consistently sound off due to the wiring paths being close to each other and coupling the signal over. Shutting off one would tell you which one it actually is. Get a small rubber band and wrap it at the inner lip of the button to avoid inadvertent presses. I did that on the Circuit Detective one from HF, and it now requires a firm press instead of just a light touch. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this help trace wires not yet connected to the panel? What's a product that can do that |
Answer: | You could also hook up a 9-volt battery on 1/2 end of the circuit and then use a Multimeter to find the other |
Question: | Can you use this to find a 2pole brkr? Ex. Roof top ac unit disconnect, unit it powered on, clip one lead to one of the hots, and one lead to ground |
Answer: | I would think in theory that should work. But I have not tried tracing 1/2 of a 240-circuit as you describe. |
Question: | Can this be used with ideal circuit breaker finder? it seems only has 2 prong on the light bulb adapter |
Answer: | Get a ground lift and then yes it will work |
Question: | Will this work with the klein tools et300 circuit breaker finder |
Answer: | I am using this with the et300. It works fine. I think it would work with any circuit tester. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this unit find the correct breaker when the plug on unit is not light up |
Answer: | It plugs into a standard bi-pole receptacle, so I doubt that you have this circuit anywhere because it would be dangerous @ 240 VAC. |
Question: | How far should communication between the two parts still work? Small house, breakers in closet, but can't get a response at opposite end of house |
Answer: | You’ll have to have the ends of the wires stripped —- to answer your question, you need ‘exposed wire’. Those alligator clips are not designed to just clip anywhere along an insulated conductor and work. Although, there are other apparatus designed for what it seems like you’re wanting, those kinds are constrained to low voltage scenarios. Things less than 24 volts. Typically inside control cabinets. When dealing with 120v or more, insulating piercing components isn’t a highly used practice. |
Question: | Does this work with the circuit or mains off, or does the circuit have to be energized |
Answer: | It's reall just a female plug end with alligator clips to be able to clip to wires on the circuit so I dont see why it wouldn't work with and plug type circuit finder. |
Question: | i have 2 lites that are on one switch one of the lites will not come on. Will this unit trace it to the wire or lite socket whichever is bad |
