User questions & answers

Question: They used to say swiss made on the face. they don't anymore. are they
Answer: I didnt realize that they stopped putting Swiss made on them, The pair I purchased in 2014 were made in Switzerland. I cant say with any certainty where they are made now, I hope they havent gone to china, but if you are unsure just but a pair of Mitutoyo , they are made in Brazil but are excellent quality. Hope this answer helped .
Question: does it come with a case
Answer: Yes, it comes in a hard-foam-filled plastic case.
Question: What is the dial cover made of - glass, or plastic? Does it scratch easily
Answer: I was a Machinist for over 20 years and owned a pair of B&S 6" dial calipers. With the "rough" work environment of a machine shop, the face of the calipers never got a scratch on it. I used them every day of the 20+ years as a Machinist. I recommend B&S calipers over Starrett calipers any day and I love Starret precision measuring instruments. Buy them without a care.
Question: is it really made in Switzerland
Answer: Mine was stamped on stem. swiss made. All i can say is this is very precise with consistent readings. I would never change this analog for a digital one. Mine has black dial. Hope this helps. Ted S

  • Satin chrome hinges for durability

User questions & answers

Question: will the case work with Brown and Sharpe vernier calipers as well
Answer: The B&S #577 Vernier calipers fits perfectly. When I received mine, an error had been made at the end of the hinge routing. I called the manufacturer (not B&S) and the owner blamed everyone who may have touched it after he shipped it, ( but himself) for his companies error in manufacturing. I then used an Exacto knife and got it to close properly. When you get it examine it closely and send it back if any errors are noted.

User questions & answers

Question: Why does the black face model have different writing/information than the white dial etalon? inox trempe and swiss made on the dial
Answer: I believe the photograph is wrong.
Question: are they shockproof
Answer: Yes. Don't bother looking into any other pair of caliper, Brian. This is the last 6" pair you'll ever need.
Question: Are these calipers swiss made
Answer: My set is marked "Swiss Made"
Question: Two questions: does this caliper come with an n.i.s.t. certificate of accuracy? is the dial cover made of glass, or is it plastic? thank you
Answer: The calipers come with a certificate of accuracy, but not NIST. Mine came with a TESA SA certificate from Hexagon Metrology (hope that means something to you...). The dial face seems plastic. I'm very satisfied with the build quality, accuracy, and repeatability of measurements, compared to what else was available for similar price.

Question: The System of Measurement listed above is metric. Isn't this model and English or inches model
Answer: The details and description on this page indicates inches in both measuring range (0-6") and on the dial unit of measure indicated in the upper center of the dial (.001"). Both using the " symbol abbreviation for inches. I JUST ordered one of these and certainly hope it is not metric when it arrives. js
Question: Is this American Made
Answer: It says on their website that the only calipers made by Starrett are the 120 series. Everybody says it's disappointing, but why do you think they are so cheap? The 120's are like $200
