Answer:	if you are a professional massage therapist throw the table out and buy a new one. tears in the fabric are an infection control issue. the low price of the table is well worth your professional reputation. if the table is used only for your personal use than duct tape or a patch kit will work.

Answer:	The total thickness of the padded top is about 3.25 inches. However, note that this includes the thickness of the upholstery (maybe 0.25 inch ?) and the thickness of the rigid base at the bottom of this sandwich that I imagine must be at least 0.5 inch (my guesstimate). The normal kind you get on massage tables. I like that because you can clean it. The legs and sides are wood.
