8 best precision balls

Precision balls are spherical components used in various industrial applications, primarily in the field of bearings and power transmission products. These balls are manufactured to very tight tolerances and high levels of precision to ensure smooth and efficient movement in machinery and equipment. Here are some key points about precision balls:

  1. Bearings: Precision balls are commonly used in ball bearings, which are crucial components in many types of machinery and mechanical systems. Ball bearings reduce friction and allow for the smooth rotation of shafts and other moving parts. The precision of the balls is essential for the proper functioning of the bearing.

  2. Materials: Precision balls can be made from various materials, depending on the application's requirements. Common materials include steel, stainless steel, ceramic, and plastic. The choice of material depends on factors such as load capacity, corrosion resistance, and temperature resistance.

  3. Sizing and Tolerances: Precision balls are manufactured to precise dimensions and tolerances. The diameter of the ball and its roundness are critical factors that affect the performance of bearings and other components. Manufacturers carefully control these parameters to ensure consistency.

  4. Grade and Quality: Precision balls are graded based on their precision and quality. Different industries and applications may require balls of different grades, ranging from lower-precision grades for less demanding applications to high-precision grades for precision instruments and aerospace applications.

  5. Applications: Precision balls find use in a wide range of industries and applications beyond bearings. These include automotive components, aerospace systems, medical devices, and precision instruments like gauges and measuring equipment.

  6. Corrosion Resistance: In environments where corrosion is a concern, such as marine or chemical processing applications, stainless steel or ceramic precision balls are often preferred due to their resistance to rust and chemical degradation.

  7. Customization: Some applications may require customized precision balls with specific sizes, materials, or surface coatings to meet unique performance requirements.

Overall, precision balls play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and reliable operation of various machinery and equipment across multiple industries, where precision and low friction are essential for performance and efficiency.

User questions & answers

Question: Length and width of this item
Answer: Circular objects do not have a length/width, they only have a diameter...this one is 2" in all directions.
Question: In size, is this roughly similar to a billiard ball
Answer: A standard billiard ball will be about 1/4" larger than this 2" chromium ball.
Question: is this type of chrome steel weldable, if so what type of tig wire would be best
Answer: Yes I welded one to a 1 inch metal stock bar to use as a pull up bar work great.
Question: Listed shipping/item weight says 3.2 ounces for the two pack, but in some answers you say they are 1 pound 2.6 ounces per 2 inch ball. Which is it
Answer: The weight is 1.185 pounds and the two balls together will make a total shipping weight roughly - 2.5 pounds with packing material. Thank you for the inquiry.

User questions & answers

Question: Will these 1" bearings crack when frozen
Answer: At 32 degrees F (0 degrees C) no. I suppose you could get them deep enough into the minus Fahrenheit scale to crack them in use. Like at the poles or in space. They state that these meet E52100.
Question: Are these stainless? They are not gonna rust, aren't they
Answer: These are not a "stainless" Alloy. These will in fact rust given certain conditions.
Question: Can i weld then to the top of fence posts
Answer: yes !! if your fence post are a weldable material. if you are using them for that i would not get the chrome but use the cheaper ones. i welded a 3" ball to a short length of chain it makes a great wepon or just a conservation pice
Question: Are these food safe
Answer: You will need to order stainless steel balls for a food safe application because chrome steel is not a safe option. Search Amazon for this item # B0184ELRE6 and you can pick the quantity you need. Thanks for your interest in BC Precision products.
