Twist clockwise to close and pump .... the piston goes up. Twist counterclockwise to open and the piston retracts .... if, there is sufficient weight on it or it has a spring to retract the piston. The large screw in the top is manually adjusted out or in. Please remember that this unit isn't reliable enough for you to get under the car after you have lifted it. Jack stands are needed and you must be certain that the car cannot move. That means emergency brake set and wheel chocks are needed. Sorry if I got too specific or described things you already knew. Answer:	I have the 12 ton model. The hydraulic ram extends a maximum of 8.5 inches. The screw extension lets you extend the reach about 7 inches but the lift is still 8.5 inches. The handle is very short. I had to make an 18 inch extension out of 3/4 inch electrical conduit so that I could get under my Sequoia to lift the axle to change a tire. Otherwise it works fine and I am satisfied with it.

Answer:	Ronny Chopra is correct. The integrated unadjustable overload is set way too low. This jack, I bought 4 from HDepot, can not lift its 20 ton rating. I estimate half of that it can lift. My old 12 ton bottle jack can outlift this 20 ton jack, and it makes me very upset!!! I suppose the way round this is jack with multiple jacks to lift the weight that the one jack should lift. I know I did not get 4 bad jacks either.

The amount of pressure would be determined by the surface area where the force is applied; just divide 24,000 lbs. by the surface area. So if that was 4 sq. in., it would be (12 x 2000)/4 = 6,000 lbs./sq. in. If 1 sq. in., it would be 24,000 lbs./sq. in. If you actually meant force, then yes, it's 12 tons or 24,000 lbs.

Question:	can this work upside down. I want to make a press with it
Answer:	I have a similar jack used as the power ram for a press. I mounted it right side up and let the ram push against the top bar of the press frame and let the body of the jack rest on the movable press part. If you search for "hydraulic press" and get pictures of the smaller "home shop" style presses, you can see many that are set up that way. Mine works really well. Keeps the cost down because you can use an inexpensive bottle jack like this one rather than a purpose built hydraulic ram made to work inverted.
Question:	Could I air up this jack with my on board compressor rated for 150 psi tank for air bags
Answer:	possibly. depends on your CFM

Answer:	My shop air is set at 175psi and I've had no problems with it. As anything I wouldn't exceed the (max) limit for safety reasons anyway. I own two of the jacks and use them daily lifting heavy equipment. By far some of the best jacks I've ever used and at a very good price.
