Question:	What is the largest rod you can put in the hook? I have a 1.25in diameter rod that the hoist has to hang off of. Will the hook fit on this size rod
Answer:	A max of 1" dia will pass through the open part of the hook.. but if you pass a pipe through end wise, it will accept up to 1-1/2 dia. The clip that closes the open part of the hook is cheap and wont last a damn. Do not open box in the house... expect to use a 1/2 roll of paper towels or rags and degreaser ... simple green... on the chain when new.. and there is one cheap cotter pin that should be replaced before using. When using the hoist sideways... the pawl will not engauge so if there is a load on it, someone has to hold the chain. Its a cheap hoisf but i used it for pulling a boat engine...was a V8, then pulled my boat trailee with boat on it out of the mud... may lock up sideways now and then but a quick backwards tug on the chain and its freed. The extra long chain is very nice...

Answer:	It does have a brake, however, if you are planning any lifting anywhere near 2000 lbs you would be better to step up to a 2 ton. We were lifting frames weighing between 1000 and 1700 lbs and the brake is destroyed already. Not recommended for anything heavy.

Answer:	You just need a sturdy place to hook the chain fall. It slowly raises the object as you pull the loop chain through. It works great. I just used it to lift up my ZT mower so I could change the blades. I warn you the chains are greasy when it arrives.

Answer:	The chain should not be left totally dry but the lubricant it ships with is so nasty, I decided to clean it off and re-lubricate with a cleaner lubricant. Cleaning was easy. Simply suspend the block about 3' off the floor with chains in a bucket of hot water and detergent; taking care not to submerge the block mechanism. After washing the chain, rinse chain with water using the same method. Then hang to dry and re-lubricate with a good rust preventative lubricant and then wipe excess lube off.

Question:	What is the maximum lift height
Answer:	Not sure what diameter the pully blocks can accomodate, but system came with 1/4 inch rope. No way I'd ever attempt to lift 4000 lbs with it. Works fine when lifting 258 lbs.
Question:	How long is the hand chain on the 10m/33ft model
Answer:	It does not have a reverse stop. If you let go of the rope under a load it will drop. It is very powerful, I think its a 7 to 1 ratio so 70 pounds is like lifting 10 pounds. You would need to tie the rope off in place to hold a suspend a load.

Question:	How "clean" is this hoist? Others come with a greasy coating on chains that is impossible to clean off and impossible to use without getting dirty
Answer:	Yes it has a hook on the hoist body itself and another hook on the chain that is attached to the load. This review is for the specstar 10 Ft manual hand chain hoist. Some of the answers listed here appear to not be for this specific item. For example the question about the break on this hoist appears to be answered regarding the breaking mechanism of a chain saw.

Answer:	It was ready to use. You have to have something to hook it to, of course. I put a heavy screw eye into the rafter I am using it with, but otherwise it's ready to go. I did need to tie a knot in the very end of the pull rope, because when it's extended way out it tends to slip off the pulley, making it so you have to thread it back into place. That stopped it.
Question:	What is the width of the hooks
Answer:	As packaged this is a 7 :1 ratio. As shipped one pulley.is not turning. If you pull the rope over that pulley and tie it off to the opposite Block, it will be an 8:1 ratio. With an 8:1 ratio, 4000 lb. would require you to pull 500 lb. to lift the load! That would be if their was almost no drag on any of the pulleys. Lifting 800 lbs would require a 100 lb pull. One review said lifting a 200 lb truck cap was difficult. If used as shipped, that required about 29 lb of pull. If changed to an 8:1 ratio he maximum weight this could lift is about 8 times your weight. Then how are you going to hold that load? This little pulley set will probably handle anything you can pull by hand.
