13 best lead water test kits

Lead water test kits are products designed to detect the presence of lead in drinking water. Lead contamination in drinking water is a serious health concern as exposure to lead can lead to various health problems, particularly in children and pregnant women. These test kits are commonly used by homeowners, schools, businesses, and government agencies to monitor the safety of their water supply.

Here are some key points about lead water test kits:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of these test kits is to determine whether lead is present in drinking water and to what extent. They provide a simple and cost-effective way to assess water quality.

  2. Method: Lead water test kits typically use chemical reactions to detect the presence of lead ions in water. They often include test strips or reagents that change color when they come into contact with lead.

  3. User-Friendly: Most lead water test kits are designed to be user-friendly and do not require specialized training or equipment to use. They come with clear instructions on how to collect a water sample and perform the test.

  4. Testing Procedure: The testing procedure usually involves taking a water sample, adding the provided reagent or using the test strip, and observing any color changes. The color change corresponds to the presence and concentration of lead in the water.

  5. Interpretation: Users can interpret the test results by comparing the color change to a provided color chart. The chart will indicate whether the water sample contains lead and, if so, at what concentration.

  6. Accuracy: The accuracy of lead water test kits can vary depending on the brand and model. Some kits are more sensitive and reliable than others. It's important to choose a reputable product for accurate results.

  7. Safety Precautions: When using these kits, it's essential to follow safety precautions and handle the water samples with care, especially if lead contamination is suspected.

  8. Regulations: In some regions, there may be regulations regarding lead levels in drinking water. Lead water test kits can help individuals and organizations comply with these regulations and take appropriate actions if lead is detected.

  9. Maintenance: Regular testing is recommended, especially for older homes or buildings with lead pipes or plumbing fixtures, as lead contamination can increase over time.

  10. Remediation: If lead is detected in the water, steps should be taken to remediate the issue, such as replacing lead pipes or installing water treatment systems to reduce lead levels.

Lead water test kits are an important tool for ensuring the safety of drinking water and can help individuals and authorities take timely action to address lead contamination concerns. It's crucial to use these kits properly and interpret the results accurately to protect public health.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the range for testing iron
Answer: The test range is between 0.0 and 5.0 ppm
Question: can this test spring water
Answer: Hi, I think you should be able to test your Spring water with it. It's not as accruate as a lab test. We used it to test tthhe water and make sure it was ok for our livestock.
Question: What are the indicators/results to suggest the well water is : (1) safe to drink, (2) safe to shower in/wash hands, (3) safe on washing clothes
Answer: We followed all the instructions and test indicators with ease of instructions. I don't remember what all the test were but it covered most of what was the most important of chemicals and bacteria. All the test came back safe for 0 nitrates, bacteria harmful to drink, etc. I would feel safe to shower/wash hands and to wash clothes in. We only used it to drink and wash our hands as it was put up at a lake. I would recommend that water not be stored and changed daily as we left the test water alone for 4 days further than it asked for and it did grow organisms as the chlorine is not there to kill them. However, drinking it fresh daily we never became sick and the water was perfect!! I am going to send a sample off to the state level for curiosity but I feel safe drinking what we draw from the well. I hope this helps.
Question: How many times can I repeat the test? Is it one time use only
Answer: This test kit can only be used once.

The Water Quality Test Even Government and Water Municipalities Recommend You Use. Regularly.

This isn’t just for peace of mind, this is your physical health and well-being. Time and time again, water systems we have come to trust allow polluted water to flow freely into homes causing disease and chronic health problems. Since children and pets are the most sensitive to contaminants, with sometimes devastating results, this can heighten the need for testing. Testing gives you the power of knowledge, and it costs only 24.95.

Environment

Aging water systems, contaminated runoff that introduces human and animal waste, and industrial chemicals are just three of the actors influencing drinking water quality—and the impact is growing greater every day. Chemical spills, toxic substances, people living more densely; the depth of the problem is yet to be fully realized.

Government

These days, most government officials agree that it’s nearly impossible to completely avoid contaminated drinking water. The biggest questions are which chemicals, and to what degree. The fact that both information and management of these systems are controlled by people in politics is a disturbing factor.

Well Water, Too

Rural areas that receive their water from wells contain some of the most contaminated water sources. Microorganisms and toxic chemicals seep into water supplies. People are advised to use a well water testing kit regularly, as new contaminants invade groundwater with little to no oversight or enforcement.

Pittsburgh Downplays the Threat of Lead-Contaminated Drinking Water.

In 2017, the Water and Sewer Authority in Pittsburgh issued a warning for residents to boil their drinking water first, even for brushing teeth and washing dishes. City officials are accused of misleading residents as to the risk.

Flint Michigan’s Drinking Water Harms Children.

In 2018, when 57 of 86 Detroit public schools tested positive for elevated levels of lead, the government confirmed that children could suffer permanent brain damage, which often results in learning disabilities and violent behavior.

Lead-Contamination in Milwaukee’s Drinking Water Since 2015 Continues.

From 2015 to 2017 the children of families living in Milwaukee were testing positive for elevated levels of lead. Even after the health commissioner resigned for failing to notify the community of the risk, the “serious failure” persists.

Drinking Water Test Kit for Home Tap and Well Water - Easy to Use Testing Strips for Lead Bacteria pH Copper Nitrate Chlorine Hardness and More | Made in The USA in Line with EPA Approved Limits

Health Metric

Based on 1 reviews Check latest price
  • ✅ A SIMPLE, ACCURATE AND LOW-COST WAY to screen your water for the presence of potentially harmful contaminants.
  • ✅ MADE IN THE USA IN LINE WITH OFFICIAL EPA LIMITS - Compare your results with EPA-approved guidelines for drinking water quality. Don't rely on Chinese-made "bulk" strip kits, these are often merely wastewater tests with unapproved and unsafe Lead, Iron, and Copper readings.
  • ✅ COMPREHENSIVE TESTING FOR PEACE OF MIND - Not only does this test kit detect even the smallest amounts of Lead and Copper, it also tests for Bacteria and other crucial water quality parameters. Having unbalanced levels of Chlorine, Hardness, pH, Alkalinity, Nitrate or Nitrite can indicate serious issues.
  • ✅ NO SCIENCE DEGREE AND NO MAILING REQUIRED - This home water-testing kit is simple enough for anyone to use with zero expertise or equipment. Get your results quickly and easily - whether it’s from a tap, well, municipal, or spring. Just follow the included step-by-step instructions.
  • ✅ HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS SAVED ON LAB TESTS - Let’s be honest, most of us don’t test every 6 months like recommended. Testing separately for every element at a laboratory would cost stupid amounts of money. This kit makes it possible to find out what’s in your water without breaking the bank.

User questions & answers

Question: In the Bacteria Check it says to keep in a 70degree-90degree room. Will the test come out differently if not conducted in that temperature
Answer: Needs to be warm for the bacteria
Question: Does this test for arsenic in the water
Answer: No. We have found arsenic test strips to be unreliable. There are many interferences with the dip strip method. We don't recommend them and won't offer them to our customers.
Question: What is the range of the copper test
Answer: The copper strip range is zero to 5.0 ppm.
Question: How many test strips are in the kit
Answer: Two 4-in-1 strips for pH, total alkalinity, total chlorine and total hardness. One lead test. One copper test. Two nitrite/nitrate strips.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the range of the lead test kit
Answer: The lead test kit is a pass/fail type of test. The U.S EPA has a set a 15 part per billion (ppb) limit for municipal water providers. This test shows if the lead level in the water is above or below the 15 ppb level.
Question: What level of lead in water is safe
Answer: The EPA set a threshold level of 15 parts per billion (ppb) for municipal water treatment companies. If 10% of the water samples contain over 15 ppb, the treatment company has to take action to remove the lead. No lead is considered safe to consume. The problem is lead can enter the water system at your home through pipes, solder and fixtures. There are no regulations for controlling lead on your private property.
Question: What are signs of lead in water
Answer: There are no visible signs or odors when lead is in the water. The only way to know is to test the water.
Question: What's the lowest ppm amount that each test can detect
Answer: Iron = 0.3ppm, Mercury = 0.002 ppm, Copper, 0.05 ppm, Lead is a yes/no test. If the lead is over 15 ppb, it reads positive.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this test for Ferric or Ferrous iron
Answer: Yes, the strip can test for Ferrous iron.
Question: For the manufacturer - is one single drop from the dropper directly onto the test pad (one for each) a sufficient amount of water to test the levels
Answer: Yes, one drop for each pad is sufficient. Please rinse the dropper 2-3 times with the testing water before using (just suck the water in and squeeze it out). This is to clean/prepare the dropper. The other thing is, we use special coat on each testing pad to avoid water running from pad to pad, and you can see the water drop is contained within each pad. If you find it is not easy to read the colour with excess water, you can gently shake off the excess water on the strip, AFTER waiting for 30 seconds so the colours have fully developed. If you need further support, send us a message or email, we can send you some demonstration videos or pictures.
Question: How do I get the ebook? Is there a link
Answer: Hi, if you purchased our test kit before 8/Mar/2020, we have sent the eBook through Amazon message system. If you ordered after 8/Mar/2020, there is a card included in the package with instruction of how to get the eBook. If you don't get your eBook by either of ways mentioned, please send us an email or contact us through Amazon message. Best regards, Anna from SJ Wave

User questions & answers

Question: what items does this test check for besides lead? Asbestos? cadmium
Answer: Only lead and bacteria
Question: Can I send in the two samples separately
Answer: Thank you for your interest in our Safe Home LEAD in Drinking Water Test Kit. Samples are required to be sent together, in their original packaging, with accompanying registration. Answer: Hello Amazon Buyer, Thank you for your interest in our Safe Home LEAD in Drinking Water Test Kit, with testing at our EPA certified laboratory. Without knowing more details about your sample collection and shipping variables, it's difficult to properly advise you. However, most metals (including Lead) are quite stable in a water matrix, for extended periods of time. Please collect your water sample as close to the shipping date, as is possible. If you have more detailed questions, you may contact us at our dot.com. Scitus Lead Test Kit with 30 Testing Swabs Rapid Test Results in 30 Seconds Just Dip in White Vinegar to Use Lead Testing Kits for Home Use, Suitable for All Painted Surfaces

SPIROCHAETE RESEARCH LABS LLC

Based on 1 reviews Check latest price

User questions & answers

Question: Does the swab and vinegar combo stain? If used on painted wall, for instance? Will it cleanly wipe away
Answer: I used the swab to check some Playskol toy blocks. These blocks were colored with a stain. Some of this stain was transferred from the block to the to the swab. I did not notice any discoloring of the block. I think that the purpose of the vinegar is to lift paint (or whatever the substance) on to the swab - which it necessary to effectuate the testing process. Therefore, I would suggest that you try a cotton swab w/ vinegar and see if the area is affected.
Question: Can this test painted wooden toys
Answer: I don’t see why not. You moisten the test swab and rub it on the painted toy and look for color change.
Question: I need something for soil testing; will this work
Answer: No, we are sorry this test can not help detect lead contamination in soil. We suggest using another test on amazon that advertises soil testing. Wish we could help!
Question: Will this work to test on dishes? I have antique dishes that I'm concerned might have a lead glaze
Answer: I’m sorry our test isn’t intended for testing dishes, it most likely will detect the lead but there is a false negative rate higher than is acceptable to us. So we cannot recommend it, if you would like to try please pm us after buying and we will talk further.

Scitus Lead Testing Advantage

Our Swab testing kit contains 30 swabs, enough for 30 tests around your home, allowing you to not just test your project area but other areas which may pose a risk to your family's health. We only ask that you bring your own white vinegar to activate them, this ensures we can keep costs down by not mailing liquids to you, so we can pass those savings on to you! Your family's safety is our priority, Scitus Lead Test Swabs provide effective and cost effective detection of high levels of lead around your home.

Before Home Improvement

Test areas of your house you plan to work on, testing for lead prior to the start of a home improvement project can help protect your family and keep lead remediation costs down.

Testing Questionable Areas For Lead

Test areas of your house you suspect may contain lead, we have frequently been contacted by family's who's children have tested positive for lead. After learning this, they have used our swabs to test areas of their homes and find the source. Lead exposure can be crippling to a developing brain, its best to be proactive about lead!

Positive Result

This is an example of a likely positive test result, note the obvious crimson color change at the tip of the swab. This area should not be sanded or disturbed until lead safe guards are put into place.

A Likely Negative Result

This is an example of a likely negative test, the absence of a crimson color change indicates that no lead has reacted with the swab. This test is not intended to replace a professional inspection, if you suspect lead it is always best to contact a professional lead abatement contractor.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used to test pool water
Answer: We used it on our tap water to see if our sink/shower water was normal. I would think that the chlorine would affect it if you have a standard pool. Not sure about salt water pools though. Below is a link that may help depending where you livehttps://www.portlandoregon.gov/water/article/622113
Question: what makes water smell fishy
Answer: A fishy smell can be caused by naturally occurring organic material in the earth like Barium or Cadmium metals. Chloramine is a compound of chlorine and ammonia used to disinfect public water sources. Unfortunately, it can cause an unwanted fishy odor in your water.
Question: what is the method of testing for the hydrogen sulfide in the water sample? I read that it was simply to smell your water
Answer: Laboratory tests for both iron bacteria and hydrogen sulfide can be expensive and are not DIY tests. The smell/observation tests included in the LabTech Plus kit that have the user both smell and observe the water samples are a true screening tests. Most people do not know what is causing the 'rotten egg' smell in their water supply. Although both Iron Bacteria and Hydrogen Sulfide can both cause the undesirable smell, the remediation is very different.
Question: How many uses does the deluxe kit provide? I wish to check my water unfiltered and filtered. Can I get at least these 2 uses from it
Answer: The H2O OK Plus Complete Water Analysis Kit contains 2 tests each for Total Chlorine, Total Hardness, Iron, pH Level, Total Alkalinity, Copper, Iron Bacteria, Nitrates, Nitrites, and Hydrogen Sulfide. The kit also contains 1 test each for Lead, Total Coliform Bacteria, and Pesticides.

How safe is your family water supply?

Most people at one time or another question the safety of the water supply that they rely upon every day in their homes. Whether you live in the country with your own well or use city supplied water, unwanted chemicals and other contaminates can be present in your water supply.

Contaminants

Contaminants can be present in home water because of faulty plumbing, chemicals and fertilizers leaching into groundwater supplies, run-off from agricultural processes, drug contamination, flooding and chemical water treatment processes. In areas where hydrofracking is utilized, groundwater contamination is also a major homeowner concern.

Question: Does this test for fluoride
Answer: Your city or county's water authority will tell you whether or not they fluoridate your water. Check their website for their annual water quality report. That being said, enough places have been adding fluoride to their water supplies for long enough that it is in practically all water by now. It doesn't go away, it has been building up in increasing levels for decades. They water crops with it, prepare foods with it, it is everywhere.

Answer: Below are the ranges posted on the test results card the comes with the water test kit.Lead - Under 15 ppbBacteria - NoneCopper - Under 1.3 ppbIron - Under .3 ppbNitrate Nitrogen - Under 10 ppmNitrite Nitrogen - Under 1 ppmpH - 6.5 to 8.5Hardness - Under 50 ppmTotal Chlorine - Under 4 ppm
Question: Are the results binary (yes/no, +/-) or do you get numbers back
Answer: For the following tests you'll get numbers back: Iron, Nitrates, Nitrites, Chlorine, Copper, Alkalinity, pH, HardnessFor these tests it will be a binary positive or negative result: Pesticide, Lead, Bacteria
Question: If I want to test water from multiple sources (kitchen, bathroom, fridge), will I need multiple kits
Answer: Hey, this is the future. So did you have to resort to a different product, or bought multiple kits? Also, test your drinking water, everything else is secondary

Testing gives you the power of knowledge.

Environment

Aging water systems, contaminated runoff that introduces human and animal waste, and industrial chemicals are just three of the factors influencing drinking water quality—and the impact is growing greater every day.

Microorganisms and pesticides seep into water supplies.

A Research Company. Why We Do It.

We believe in scientific truth and the power of the people. Silver Lake Research produces water quality test kits for homeowners, business owners, and even yacht and RV owners who can benefit from greater ability to screen for pollutants in their drinking water. The real and lasting damage that comes from unwitting contamination exposure is a fact in current day society that should not be tolerated.

The products we invent and produce are just one step of many that are needed to protect people from these very real dangers. Use our drinking water testing kits to help you and your loved ones obtain the knowledge instrumental in staying safe and to help ensure a long and healthy life.
