Don't be confused by people who say that electrons flow from negative to positive-- while this is true, "conventional" current flow is described as positive to negative. Batt+ to Black end(anode), striped end(cathode) to load, to Batt-. |

Answer: | No. Not because of the 20v clamping voltage, but because of the avalanche energy. I believe you're using as a clamp for a 'load dump transient based on your question. A zener of this size will tunnel then avalanche in the millijoule range or smaller. Go for the larger TVS (transient voltage suppressor). |
