14 best silicone spray lubricant

Silicone spray lubricant is a versatile product commonly used in various industrial applications, maintenance, and household tasks. It falls under the category of lubricants, adhesives, and sealants, and it is well-regarded for its unique properties and applications. Here's what you need to know about silicone spray lubricant:

  1. Composition: Silicone spray lubricants are typically composed of silicone oil or silicone-based compounds dissolved in a solvent carrier. The silicone content in these sprays provides lubrication and protection, while the solvent carrier helps deliver the silicone to the target surface.

  2. Lubrication: Silicone spray lubricants are excellent lubricants for a wide range of surfaces, including metal, rubber, plastic, and more. They reduce friction and wear between moving parts, making them ideal for use in machinery, automotive, and industrial equipment.

  3. Waterproofing: One of the key benefits of silicone spray lubricants is their waterproofing and moisture-repellent properties. They create a protective barrier on surfaces, preventing water and moisture from penetrating. This makes them suitable for outdoor applications, such as protecting electrical connections or preventing rust on metal surfaces.

  4. Temperature Resistance: Silicone sprays are known for their ability to withstand extreme temperatures. They can operate effectively in both high-temperature and low-temperature environments, making them versatile for various industrial and automotive applications.

  5. Dielectric Properties: Silicone spray lubricants are often used in electrical applications due to their dielectric properties. They can insulate electrical components and connections while providing lubrication, making them suitable for use in electrical and electronic equipment.

  6. Release Agent: In industrial processes, silicone spray lubricants are sometimes used as a release agent. They help in the easy removal of molded or cast parts from molds, ensuring a smooth and clean release without damaging the product.

  7. Household Uses: Apart from industrial applications, silicone spray lubricants are also found in many households. They can be used for tasks such as lubricating door hinges, bicycle chains, and locks, as well as preventing squeaky noises.

  8. Safety Precautions: While silicone spray lubricants are generally safe to use, it's essential to follow safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer. Proper ventilation and avoiding direct inhalation of the aerosol mist are crucial. Additionally, these sprays should be kept away from open flames or heat sources due to their flammable nature.

  9. Variety of Products: Silicone spray lubricants come in various formulations, including food-grade options for applications in the food industry, and specialized versions for specific purposes like high-temperature or extreme-pressure conditions.

In summary, silicone spray lubricants are versatile products with a wide range of industrial and household applications. They offer lubrication, waterproofing, and protection against moisture, making them valuable in numerous scenarios where friction and environmental factors need to be managed effectively.

User questions & answers

Question: If this product contains petroleum distillates, how can it be for use on rubber
Answer: Mission Automotive Silicone Paste. I bought an 8oz jar of it in 2018 and have barely made a dent in it, hehe. The stuff is great! I started using silicone when I bought an underwater metal detector years ago. The manual was very specific that you shouldn't use Vaseline on the rubber seals! I had a small container of the stuff that was about the size of three silver dollars stacked up... I had gone thru about half of it and decided to get some more. After looking at prices, I figured it was worth the big cost savings just to buy a big thing of it instead of a small tube! As infrequent as i use it, it will still be sitting on my shelf, in great condition, for the next 10-20 years! :)
Question: Can I spray this on a cloth and wipe onto part to be lubricated from that, or will it dry on the cloth before I have a chance to do so
Answer: it does not dry like an alcohol product. you should have no problem spraying it on a cloth and using almost right away (go answer the phone, use the restroom). if you leave the cloth until tomorrow - not so much.
Question: Does this contain petroleum distillates
Answer: Yes, it does. The full list of "ingredients" are "Contains heptane, branched, cyclic and linear, petroleum distillates, propane, butane."
Question: Does 14-ounce size come with straw sprayer? Thank you
Answer: No. My 14oz. can did NOT come with a straw.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use it for protecting my marine outboard engine
Answer: You can get silicone grease. It's actually Dielectric grease. It doesn't liquefy at low temperatures and retains viscosity well. Also, I have seen but cannot vouch for something called "Technician's Choice Silicone Lube" (not found on Amazon). It was only $0.31/oz.
Question: Can I use this under my truck to resist winter road salt corrosion and rust
Answer: Very! It is nice because a little goes a long way. Never gets sticky as water based lubes tend to do.
Question: will it prevent rust spots on outdoor stainless steel
Answer: It lasts as long as you and your partner do.

User questions & answers

Question: what % silicone is used? Thanks
Answer: The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for WD-40 Specialist Water Resistant Silicone Lube (available online at wd40specialist.com) lists the weight percent or percent by weight of silicone (poly dimethylsiloxane) as 1-5 percent (shown at bottom of page 1 of the MSDS). Page 1 of the MSDS also lists a toll-free Information telephone number for the WD-40 Company (1-888-324-7596) if you need additional info about this product not included on the MSDS. I called this number to confirm the percentage of silicone in this lube. A very courteous operator indicated that a product technical specialist would either call me back or send me an email within 24-48 hours with the answer. I gave her my name and telephone number and should be hearing back within 2 days. You can use this same strategy to get answers to any other technical questions you may have about this product. Hope this helps.
Question: How does this smell? I need something to stop a squeaky brake pedal, so this would be used inside the passenger area of my jeep
Answer: Short Answer: It smells a little minty with a hint of oiliness. I wouldn't be surprised if they used a little oil of wintergreen in it, but the exact formula is a trade secret... (but that's not all you need to know). It's probably a pretty good choice for your application.Longer Answer: It's probably a reasonable choice, if you get the version of WD40 that's the silicone spray, which is shown in the picture that came with your request for information. It turns out that WD40 has become a brand name rather than a product name -- and they have several quite different products with different capabilities on the market (... which is why I amended my original answer to this question, because I -- somewhat sloppily -- thought was aimed at the original WD40). If you tried to use regular old non-silicone WD40, it would probably not be the best of ideas for your brake pedal: Old style plain-old WD40 is intended for use more as a water dispersal ("WD") agent rather than as a lubricant. It has very minimal lubrication capability. I recommend the version that you particularly inquired about, which is a more modern spray silicone lubricant. The silicone (which has a little odor, but not terribly strong). In any case, it's a good idea to put some newspaper or other material behind the area you're spraying, to avoid getting the oil on other surfaces -- silicones have a habit of spreading around (that's why they're good lubricants!) and can leave little oily spots that are hard to clean (unless you use a pine or orange oil cleaning material). My belief is that it probably would be optimal to have a little grease in the pedal linkage to prevent noise (becauses greases are great lubricants for things that don't move at high speed), but you're not apt to be able to get a grease -- even a spray -- into the squeaky nooks and crannies so that a silicone spray would be more likely to get to where the noise is coming from.BTW: The real use for which the original WD40 was developed was to keep water off metal surfaces that would cause them to corrode in humid environments -- e.g., missile fuel/oxidizer tanks that had to sit around for years. If you're interested, check out the Wikipedia entry on WD40: it's pretty fascinating. Here in FL, an occasional spray with WD40 will allow steel tools to last forever in a humid garage or shed or basement; without it, they're rusty and unusable in less than a year.
Question: What's the difference between this and regular WD
Answer: WD-40 is not a lubricant. This is.
Question: Can this be used on vinyl windows to slide easier
Answer: Yes!! That's what we bought it for and it has worked miracles. The windows are like new. I keep a can handy because it does wear off but just another spray and the windows work again.

User questions & answers

Question: How well does this work with acrylic flow / dirty pour projects? do they sell a squeeze bottle version
Answer: I watched numerous youtube videos about getting cells by using silicone. My favorite person is Priscilla Batzell and this is what she uses. She uses it sparingly either on the canvas or a small spray into a cup for a dirty pour or spooning out. It looks like it makes lots of cells, usually small but that is sort of her style.
Question: Is this the best item to spray on glass door tracks that are hard to move
Answer: It will make the door easier to open and close. The down-side is a black film, like carbon, in the track that stains clothes and hands, if any clothes or hands get on the track. I prefer Blaster White Lithium for sliding door tracks. Less mess, better lubrication, last longer.
Question: Does this come with a spray straw
Answer: Just received Dec 11, 2020. Had seen answers to this question, so checked thoroughly. NO straw at all.
Question: Says "industrial strength". where can i find the industrial spec sheet- or is this just a deceptive name
Answer: Google the MSDS it will have the specs. This stuff is my primary lubricant for a fleet of 40 bikes I maintain, all those fancy high priced lubes do not come close to what this can do for dispelling dirt and water and leaving the small moving parts clean and lubricated. It does not dissolve the soft plastics either

Answer: It is a clear spray. No color.
Question: Can this be used inside a toaster oven? I am looking for a substance to coat the inside of a toaster oven so foods do not stick to the top, bottom and
Answer: Hi there. This is NOT food grade Teflon and will essentially ruin the toaster.
Question: Can you use this product to repair or re-surface non-stick frying pans and pots
Answer: My advice is that you throw away all your teflon pots/pans, and don't replace them. Google "humans + teflon" if you want to worry about the detectable traces of teflon found in all our bodies.

Question: Does this have petrolium? It doesn't say anywhere
Answer: Not to sure what you mean by petroleum? It contains in this order: Isobutane (CAS#(75-28-50); Isoparaffinic Hydrocarbon Solvent (CAS#64742-48-9); Poly(dimethylsoiloxane), (CAS# 63148-62-9); Heptane (CAS#142-82-5). This is a very heavy/thick silicone spray. I use it on everything, car tires, rubber molding & trim, door slides, doesn't stain or evaporate away. It's worth the price.Let me know if you have any more questions. Check CAS#s, and MSDS sheet.
Question: Can i use this to stop the squeaky of my hardwood floor? i saw some posts saying it's safer than wd
Answer: Due to resultant slickness, I would not use this where people or pets walk, it would risk a fall. Care should be taken that it not get on floors, it is not for walking surfaces. Please do not apply it in this way. Even furniture polish overspray onto floors can result in hazardous slippery falls. Squeaks in floors would best be fixed through different means. I am no carpenter, but I would think the squeak is probably underneath- between the hardwood and subfloor and the spray would not reach anyway. It is a very good product, but just not suitable for application to a floor because of the slippery result.
Question: does this work on the bar on my blinds? also does it come with a long straw thing to attach to get in difficult places
Answer: Should work for your blinds, but no it does not come with a straw. Great lubricant though. I use it instead of WD-40 now.

User questions & answers

Question: I own an air venturi portable compressor (4500 psi), manufacturer says use only silicone oil. would this be a good choice
Answer: I've used it primarily to make vinyl windows open and close better, to fix door sticky latches on the car and house doors, and it made the rollers on a pocket door slide like glass when I thought they were simply worn out or damaged in some way. It's great stuff for that kind of thing. If your equipment calls for "silicone oil", I think you had better look for something that is in a liquid form in a bottle, not this. Not that this might not work, but it might not be optimal. Look here on Amazon for "silicone oil" and see what comes in a plastic squeeze bottle, would be my recommendation. Good luck.

User questions & answers

Question: General lawnmower lubricant? Plastic wheels, axles, springs, hinges etc
Answer: this is a specialty lub.. the regular WD40 goes further for lawnmowers.. I use silicone grease from a tube for the axles.. it stays longer than a squire from any can..
Question: Can this be used on computer keyboards
Answer: Begs the question -- why would you wish to use a petroleum-based lube on a computer keyboard? These light petroleum-based liquids have a tendency to dissolve some plastics, especially common in older (pre-1985 model) keyboards. Those keyboards do have mechanical spring switches but they rarely seized up. They usually failed due to broken springs. There are few to no mechanical items within a modern computer keyboard. The keys press a silicone "mat" that in turn closes the desired switch. A light petroleum liquid will have no utility in such a keyboard.
Question: is the actual lubricant teflon, ceramic, or graphite
Answer: ptfe spray is polytetra-fluoroethylene, teflon.
Question: can you spray it on a bike if so what does it do
Answer: I've used silicone spray on my mountain bike chain and bearings for years. Works great and doesn't get gummed up with dirt and debris as is typical with oils and grease. Also, it lasts so much longer and really does a better job. I used to use the high priced bike shop brands, but this works as well, if not better & you get more for your dollar.
